Escobedo
Sofia P. Escobedo, 80, of West Chicago, Ill., died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in her home.
She was born on July 25, 1924, in Cadiz, where she spent the early years of her life before relocating to Illinois, where she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in West Chicago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Jesus Escobedo, her parents, Jesus and Christina Posada, two grandchildren, Emily Cruz and Juan Cantu, two brothers, Adelaido Posada and Jesus Posada, and a sister, Elena Garza.
Survivors include her three daughters, Trinidad Cantu, Soila Cruz and Maria Snell; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Antonia Segovia, Miguela Zambrano, Eujenia (Tomas) Gonzales, Gonzalo (Adela) Posada, Rosendo Posada and Alejos (Julia) Posada.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday at St. Mary’s Church in West Chicago. Burial followed in Glen Oak Cemetery there.
Arrangements were handled through Williams-Woodward Funeral Home, West Chicago, Ill.

Flores

Mary Helen Martinez Posada Flores, 52, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in Corpus Christi.
She was born in Beeville to Jose and Paula (Martinez) Posada on Feb. 29, 1952. She was employed as a licensed vocational nurse for the  Texas Department of Health for 12 years and had previously worked for Beeville Memorial Hospital for 16 years. She was an A.C.  Jones High School graduate and Bee County College nursing program graduate.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jose Posada.
Survivors include her husband, Jose Guadalupe Flores of Beeville; her mother, Paula Martinez Posada of Beeville; her mother-in-law, Maria Lopez De Flores of Texarkana; two daughters, Maria Elena (Robert) Galvan of Beeville and Sonia Flores of Corpus Christi; two sons, Jesus Flores of Corpus Christi and David Flores of Beeville; her sisters, Susie (Arnulfo) Gomez, Janie (Jose) Molina and Norma Posada, all of Beeville, and Rosa Linda (Arturo) Gutierrez of Omaha, Neb.; her brothers, Joe (Josie) Posada Jr., Jerry (Josie C.) Posada, John David (Lydia) Posada, Frank (Janie) Posada, Ruben (Velma) Posada and Jaime (Irene) Posada, all of Beeville, and Paul (Irene) Posada of McKinney; and two grandchildren.
Rosary was to be recited at 7 p.m. on Friday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers will be Joe Posada Jr., Jerry Posada Sr., John David Posada, Frank Posada, Ruben, Jaime and Paul Posada.

Perez
Moses Salinas Perez, 58, of Stafford died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005.
He was born on March 20, 1946, in Beeville to Erineo and Margarita Perez. He was employed by Hanover Maintech in Houston.
Mr. Perez was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Minerva Bridge Perez of Houston; children, Moses K. Perez and wife Betina and Amanda Stuckey, all of Katy, and Samuel Perez and wife Shelley of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers, Edward Perez of Rosenberg and Erineo Perez Jr. of Beeville; a sister, Hilaria Votaw of Beeville; nine grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
A memorial celebration of his life will be held today (Saturday) at Earthman Southwest Chapel in Stafford.
Arrangements were handled through Earthman Funeral Directors Southwest, Stafford.

Sugarek
Patricia Sugarek died on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2005 in Tampa, Fla.
Patricia Marya Kirke was born on Aug. 1, 1922, in Manly, Australia, to Clem and Olga Mater Kirk. She married Charles Leroy Sugarek, son of Charles and Anna Holik Sugarek of Beeville, on July 4, 1944, while he was serving in the Air Force in Australia.
After a career as an Air Force wife and mother, she and her husband retired in Tampa, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Charles L. Sugarek, and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Candace K. Sugarek and Marc Dixon of Tampa, Fla., two granddaughters, Amanda (Mark) Goode of Spring Hill, Fla., and Rachel Dixon of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and one great-granddaughter, Shannon Goode.
Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or a hospice of your choice. Arrangements were with Turner Funeral Home of Spring Hill, Fla.

Baltazar
Robert Baltazar, 44, went to be with our Lord Jan. 24, 2005, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him. Robert was a generous, jovial and amiable man who never met a stranger.
He was born on July 27, 1960, in Beeville, to Ruben and Estella (Garcia) Baltazar. He was a Catholic and was employed by William E. Carl Felicida Ranch and Bill and Margaret McKennon.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose and Juanita Baltazar and Antonio and Amanda S. Garcia; great-grandparents, Augustine and Paula Suniga; and one uncle, Genaro Suniga.
He is survived by three daughters, Melody Garcia, Jessica Gonzales and Jennifer Chapa, all of Beeville; his parents, Ruben and Estella Baltazar of Beeville; one brother, Ruben Rene Baltazar of Beeville; three sisters, Elvira (Vera) Cagle of Beeville, Irene and Edmundo Hernandez of Beeville, Maria Dolores and Rudy (Lito) of San Antonio; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and six grandchildren.
Visitation was held at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Rosary will be at Angelus Funeral Home on Wednesday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Donohoe officiating. Interment will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Gilbert Peña, Mateo Ramirez, Sonny Perez, Ciri Villarreal, Eloy Rodriguez and Oscar Ramirez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Soliz, Larry Baltazar, Jimmy Soliz, Gilbert Arguijo, Erica Cagle, Charles Smith and James Barrera.

Byars
Raymond Byars, 69, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005.
Visitation was held Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. A private family service was held with Leonard Neal officiating.
Mr. Byars was born on May 30, 1935, in Wichita Falls to Raymond Herbert and Thelma Dean Ross Franks. He served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Mitchell Energy as a plant operator.
Survivors include his mother, Thelma Dean Franks and husband Vores of Beeville; three sons, Derrall Byars of Dripping Springs, Paul Byars of San Marcos and William Byars of Beeville; a granddaughter, Sharissa Byars of Austin; and a great-granddaughter, Shylynn Zurvich of Austin.

Garcia
Olegario G. Garcia, 78, of Rockdale died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005. He was born March 6, 1926, in Berclair to Fernando and Beatrice (Garza) Garcia.
Mr. Garcia married Romana Perez on Oct. 30, 1951, in Beeville. He was the owner of a trucking company.
Mr. Garcia was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Romana Garcia of Rockdale; and children, Viola (John) Rivera of Rockport, Rose (Dan Barrientes) Loya, Luciano (Mary Ann) Garcia, Didi (Frank) Juarez, Yolanda (Joaquin) Perez, Zina (Domingo) Juarez and Celestino Montez, all of Rockdale, Angela (Lloyd) Snider of George West and Ricardo Montez of Corpus Christi; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Beeville with Father Luke Thirunelliparambil officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park.

Cantu
Cheryl Lynn Cantu, 54, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at her home in Biloxi, Miss.
She was born in Chicago, Ill., on March 28, 1951, and was a registered nurse and a Catholic. She married Christopher L. Cantu in February 2003 in Beeville.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Arlene Wolfe.
Survivors include her husband, Christopher L. Cantu of Biloxi, Miss.; her in-laws, Pete G. and Lonnie Cantu of Beeville; her daughter, Lindsay Studnicka; her son, Donald Studnicka, both of Chicago, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Cindy Cantu of Fort Worth; a sister, Kate Mindak of Chicago, Ill.; two brothers, Thomas Whennen Jr. and Scott Whennen of Chicago, Ill.; and special friends, Gene and Dot Lucas, Randy and Jeanne Gray, Jim and Donna Posey, Kevin and Becky Wood and family and Pete and Patty Gray.
Rosary was to be recited Friday at 8 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday (today) at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers will be Edward and Ernest Garza, Randy Gray, Tom and Scott Whennen and the Rev. Carl Pickett. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Cantu, Matthew Alvarez III, Mark and Jeanne Pricer and Euleterio “Terry” and Lupita Lopez.

East
Lois Zora Gibson East, 97, died Tuesday, May 3, 2005, in Corpus Christi.
Mrs. East was cremated and will be entombed in Beeville Memorial Park.
She was born in Fort Worth on Sept. 15, 1907, to Hawkins May and Sarah (Popham) Gibson. She married Malcolm Aster East in 1926 in San Antonio. She was a Beeville resident, a Baptist and a nurse. Mrs. East enjoyed reading, watching television, sewing, bingo, playing cards, working in her garden and attending church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, two sisters and one daughter.
Survivors include her daughters, Margie Phelps and husband Garner of Pasadena and Norma “Bitsy” Reynolds of San Antonio; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Gonzales
Christine “Tina” Sanchez Gonzales, 55, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005.
Visitation was held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home. Rosary was to be recited Friday at 7 p.m. at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Special music will be provided by Joy Burkhardt. Mrs. Gonzales will be cremated.
Pallbearers will be Calistro Gonzales, Carlos Gonzales, Joe Casarez, Daniel Sanchez, Paul Ruiz and Arnold Medina.
Mrs. Gonzales was born in Beeville on Nov. 21, 1949, to Daniel and Isabel “Chavela” (Medina) Sanchez. She married Baldemar Gonzales in Beeville on Feb. 3, 1968. She was a bus driver for the Beeville ISD and a member of St. James.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Balde Gonzales of Beeville; three daughters, Becky Ramirez and husband Javier of Victoria, Terry Gonzales and Amanda Gonzales, both of Beeville; two sons, David and Gabriel Gonzales, both of Beeville; six grandchildren, Trey Montez of Victoria, Jacob and Sarah Garcia and Kimberly Gonzales, all of Beeville, and Danielle and Gabi Gonzales of Rockport; a brother, David Sanchez and wife Alice of Beeville; two sisters, Lydia Thielen and husband Chuck of Lincoln, Neb., and Rosemary Montague and husband Mike of North Carolina; and her best friend, Lela Cantu.
