Martinez
Mrs. Elogia Garcia Martinez, 84, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at 2:40 a.m. at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
She was born March 11, 1921, in Normanna to Adela Yanez and Melquiades Garcia. She married Saragosa G. Martinez. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her husband on May 6, 1994; her parents; her sisters, Juanita Salinas and Ysidra Guerra; and brothers, Eugenio and Domingo Garcia.
Survivors include her sons, Pedro Martinez and wife Gloria and Saragoza Martinez and wife Cristina, all of Beeville, and Armando Martinez and wife Celinda of Pflugerville; two sisters, Susie Salinas of San Antonio and Adela Suniga of Dallas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Pat Donohoe officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Carlos, Russell, Brandon, Alix and Gabriel Martinez and Gino Garcia.

BENITEZ
Luciano (Chano) Benitez Sr., 89, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Benitez was born on April 3, 1916, in the Clareville community. He was a retired farm worker and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Benitez married Ramona Garcia Saenz on Aug. 11, 1947, in Beeville. Mrs. Benitez preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Elena Arredondo.
Survivors include two daughters, Oralia (Pedro) Nieto of Taft and Adelmira “Adel” (Berna) Espinosa of Beeville; seven sons, Juan Urbano “Bane” (Teodora) Benitez of Austin, Luciano (Elsa) Benitez Jr. of Kenedy, Frank (Florita) Benitez of Granbury, Mauro “CB” Benitez of Humble, Ralph (Isabelle) Benitez of Rosharon, Jorge Mario (Debra) Benitez and Ramiro (Millie) Benitez, both of Beeville; one brother, Ysidro Benitez, and a sister, Soleda Suniga, both of Beeville; 29 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Trevino Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow at San Pedro Cemetery in the Clareville community.
Pallbearers will be Juanito Benitez Jr., Trini Benitez, Jorge Benitez Jr., Frank Benitez Jr., Pedro Nieto III, Marco Cantu, Juan C. Garcia Jr., Ramiro Benitez Jr. and Gabriel Benitez. Honorary pallbearers will be Ysidro Benitez and Andres Saenz.

GARZA
Alfredo Morales Garza Sr., 66, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2005, in Corpus Christi.
Visitation was held Monday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home in Beeville. A rosary was recited Monday at 7 p.m. there. Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were his sons Alfred, Henry, Jimmy, Lee Roy, Jesse and Gerald Garza, and grandsons Edward Cerda and Joe Alfred Arriaga.
Mr. Garza was born in Skidmore on March 12, 1939, to Dominga Morales and Eugene Garza. He married Aurora Farias on June 4, 1957, in Beeville and they resided here.
He was a foreman for H.B. Zachry Co. and formerly worked for Williams Brothers Construction. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry work. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Aurora Farias Garza of Beeville; nine children, Alfred Garza Jr. and wife Silverius of Beeville, Frances Cerda, Henry Garza, Gilbert Garza, Jimmy Garza and wife Virginia, Sandra Garza, Gerald Garza and Lee Roy Garza, all of Houston, and Jesse Garza and wife Teresa of Beeville; three brothers, Erasmo Garza of Robstown, Timo Garza of Beeville and Ramiro Garza and wife Belia of Beeville; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Santos Garza; two grandsons, Elazor Arriaga and Bryan Garza; and a sister, Veva Naranjo.

SALAZAR
Memorial services for Pedro Luis “Peter” Salazar, 47, of Temple were held Thursday at 6 p.m. at the home of Janie Salinas, 1205 E. Clare St., in Beeville. Burial will be private at a later date.
Mr. Salazar died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2005, at his residence.
He was born in Bee County to Joe J. Salazar and Estella Ortiz Salazar. He moved to Temple in 1997 from Beeville and was a Catholic.
Survivors include one brother, Joe Henry Salazar of Houston; three sisters, Mary Alice Coenen of Clements,  Calif., Janie Salinas of Beeville and Yolanda S. Hawkins of Temple.
Memorials may be made to MHMR in Temple.
Scanio Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WILSON
Margaret Ann Wilson, 88, a lifelong resident of Berclair, died on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in Beeville after a long illness.
Margaret was born in Berclair on July 26, 1917, to Shad Marion and Sophie Lutenbacher Guthrie. She attended early public school in Berclair and was valedictorian of her 1934 Goliad High School graduating class. She graduated with highest honors from  Texas College of Arts and Industries ( Texas A&I) in Kingsville in 1939 with a bachelor of business administration degree. After two years at  Texas A&I, she taught school at the old Sarco school in Goliad County to finance the last two years of college.
After graduation, she married Berclair native Jack Wilson in August 1939 and raised three children on the Wilson Ranch. She returned to teaching in 1955 and retired in 1985. Mrs. Wilson was a respected English teacher with the Goliad, Kenedy and Pettus Independent School Districts.
As a dedicated public servant, Mrs. Wilson was also appointed by the Goliad County Commissioners Court to serve her late husband’s unexpired term of office as Precinct 2 county commissioner following his death in August 1970.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Wilson; parents, Shad and Sophie Guthrie; brother Henry Guthrie; and sister Bernice Walker.
She is survived by sisters Maurene Davis of Beeville and Clare Wilson of Freer; daughters Jackie Schulz and Marion Higdon of Beeville; son Dan Wilson of Austin; grandchildren Theresa Nicholson, Hubert Schulz Jr., Michael Schulz, Jack Higdon, Shad Higdon, Todd Wilson and Lisa Wilson; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Mass was celebrated in her honor at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goliad at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial followed at the Catholic cemetery in Goliad. Her grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Colonial Funeral Home of Goliad handled the arrangements.

CECIL
Harry Ellis Cecil, 80, died Dec. 5, 2005.
Memorial services will be held Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church in Beeville. His cremated ashes will be scattered in the ocean.
Mr. Cecil was born in Detroit, Mich., on Dec. 21, 1924, to Margaret Dowling and Harry Cecil. He served three years in the Navy and three years in the Army.
He married Emma Jane Lane on July 28, 1983, in Port Townsend, Wash. He resided in Beeville and was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
Mr. Cecil worked with the Border Patrol for 20 years and retired as an agent in charge of the state of New Mexico. He also was a Bass Club life member and a member of the American Federation of Government Employees, Blue Nights and Lone Star Road Riders of the Purple Sage into the Rays of the Setting Sun Motorcycle Touring Club de Beeville. He and his wife have sailed through the Panama Canal and the Caribbean. He loved sailing, the water and motorcycles.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Cecil of Beeville; daughters, Victoria Baca and husband Skip of Midland, Cathleen Sigel and husband Steve of New Oxford, Pa., and Roberta Boyter and husband Jack of Hendersonville, N.C.; step-children, Paul Minnitti of Avoca, Ark., Ron Minnitti of Olympia, Wash., Kathy  Taylor and husband James of Beeville and Roxanne Layug and husband Will of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren, JoAnna Minnitti, Steve Minnitti, Anthony Layug and Danielle Layug; a sister-in-law, Penny Ladd of Beeville; nephews, Phil Bell and Kenneth Bell of Sacramento,  Calif.; and a great-niece, Bridget Bell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church Child Care Center.

Mrs. Soledad P. Garcia, 86, of Skidmore died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at 9:55 p.m. at a Mathis nursing home.
She was born in the Clareville community on May 3, 1919, to Rosa Salazar and Cipriano Perez. She married Jose Guadalupe Garcia, who died in 1987. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter, Rosa Maria Hinojosa, and a brother, Maclovio Perez.
Survivors include two daughters, Antonia Garcia of Beeville and Jesusa Garcia of Skidmore; two sons, Guadalupe (Rosa) Garcia of Tivoli and Jose Garcia of Jenkin Town, Pa.; four sisters, Maria Trevino, Apolonia Saenz and Rosa Hinojosa, all of Beeville, and Guadalupe Campos of Houston; a brother, Jesus Perez of Beeville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Treviño Funeral Home in Beeville. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in San Pedro Cemetery in the Clareville community.
Pallbearers will be Rafael and Gabriel Hinojosa, Nathan and Gerald Garcia, Soledad Hinojosa and Christina Garcia.

Margarito M. Perez, 72, formerly of Beeville, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, in Houston.
Mr. Perez was preceded in death by his daughter, Martha G. Perez, in 1964.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Luz G. Perez; daughters, Jesusa P. (Sue) Zuniga and her husband, Benito, Maria (Lupe) Martinez and her husband, Robert, Margarita (Margie) Valdez and her husband, Ignacio (Nacho), Linda P. Rodriguez and her husband, Rudy and Janie Robles and her husband, Lee; sons, Luciano (Chano) Perez and his wife, Vera, Joe G. Perez and his wife, Aurora and Johnny G. Perez and his wife, Lupita; sisters, Romana Garcia and Soveda Cardenas; and brother, Isidro Perez, Sr. He also is survived by 34 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (today) in the Main Chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Resurrection Church, 915 Zoe. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. The procession from the funeral home to the church will depart at 9:30 a.m.
