Ramos
Petra E. Ramos, 65, of Avondale, Ariz., died May 8, 2002. A memorial service was held in Arizona on May 11. She was cremated and her remains will be interred today (Wednesday) at the George West Cemetery with graveside services at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Ramos was born on May 14, 1936, in George West, to Benselado and Dominga (Espinoza) Zuniga. She was raised by Gavino and Carmen (Espinoza) Moreno.
She loved to play bingo and travel to casinos. She was known for her cooking and especially for her award-winning salsa.
She was married to Ascencion Ramos for more than 45 years. He preceded her in death in December 2001. Her parents and foster parents also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Barraza and husband Pedro, and her son, Juan Ramos, all of Avondale, Ariz.; her siblings, Lupita Z. Casas (Juan Garza) and Benselado Zuniga (Maria), all of George West, Maria Z. Cano (Jose), Domingo Zuniga (Consuelo), Amado Moreno (Minnie) and Martin Moreno (Alejandra), all of Beeville, and Juanita Hernandez of Mississippi; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled through Crystal Rose Funeral Home in Tolleson, Ariz.

Gerstberger
Jewell (Milstead) Crockett Gerstberger, 94, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery with Assistant Pastor Jon Swope officiating.
She was born March 16, 1908, in Gatesville to Austin M. and Ema (Cash) Milstead. She married Joseph Gerstberger, her second husband, on Aug. 9, 1975, in Leoti, Kan. She was a homemaker and a member of the Methodist churches in Beeville and Aransas Pass. She loved to paint and dance. She was in charge of the nursery of the First United Methodist Church for many years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James A. Crockett, on May 11, 1965, and her second husband, Joseph Gerstberger, on Sept. 24, 1984; a son, Jimmy Crockett; a stepson, Bill Gerstberger; a step-daughter-in-law, Isabol Gerstberger; three brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Robert T. Crockett and wife Delfina of Temecula,  Calif., and Donald R. Crockett and wife Cherlyn of Beeville; one daughter, Judy A. Hall and husband Johnnie of Crestview, Fla.; two stepsons, Elmer Gerstberger of Leoti, Kan., and Joseph Gerstberger Jr. and wife Phyllis of Talarosa, N.M.; one step-daughter, Virginia Lee of Leoti, Kan.; one sister, Bertie Huey of Stephenville; one daughter-in-law, Mary R. Crockett of Beeville; one step-daughter-in-law, Mary Gerstberger of Palisade,  Colo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchilden.

Hogan
Iva Marie Hogan, 78, of Beeville, formerly of San Antonio, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002.
She was born on Jan. 24, 1924, to Richard Howard and Ivy (Loftin) Hunt in Choate. She graduated from Kenedy High School in 1941. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy (WAVES) in January 1944, and took her basic training at Hunter College in New York. She was stationed in  Washington, D.C., and was discharged in October 1945. She married Second Lt. John F. Hogan on Feb. 12, 1945.
During her marriage, she attended the University of Nebraska and the University of  Texas at Austin, raised a family of two girls and shared 28 years of military life with her family at Ft. Polk, La.; Ft. Knox, Ky.; Little Rock, Ark.; Heidelberg, Germany; Ft. Riley, Kan.;  Washington, D.C.; and St. Louis, Mo.
She is survived by her husband, retired Col. John F. Hogan, two daughters, Dr. Cynthia Hogan and Amy Stewart and husband Frank; six grandchildren, Catherine, John, William and Thomas Carriger, and James and Tyler Stewart; and two sisters, Peaches Davidson and husband John of Pawnee and Ada Brown and husband Tom of Slidell, La.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Eckols Funeral Home chapel in Kenedy, with Rev. Bruce Fisher officiating. Interment followed at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with the Rev. Dr. Richard Knott and Chaplain Richard Robinson officiating.
Pallbearers were John, William and Thomas Carriger; James, Tyler and Frank Stewart and John Davidson. Honorary pallbearers were Cledy Hunt, Leroy Ahrens, Tom Brown, Fred Latcham, Art Richey, Brig. Gen. Armin Puck, Col. Lloyd Hanes, Al Hatcher and Joe Wyatt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Beeville.

Lawrence
Paul Howard Lawrence, 46, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Mineral Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry King officiating.
He was born on Oct. 13, 1955, in Bay City to Arden and Dorothy (Stevens) Lawrence. He attended Abilene Christian College for 2 1/2 years. He was a Bee County resident and a farmer.
He is survived by his father, Arden Lawrence of Edna; a brother, Charles Lawrence of Pasadena; and a sister, Mary Miller of Deer Park.

Rosebrock
Myrtle Nell Rosebrock, 85, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2002, in George West.
Mrs. Rosebrock was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Mikeska to William DeWitt and Ellen E. (Dolan) McKinney. She married John Benard Rosebrock on Nov. 27, 1934, in George West. She was a rancher and a homemaker. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She devoted her life to raising her children and was a model of integrity, honesty and courage, guided by her faith in God.
Mrs. Rosebrock was preceded in death by her husband, John Benard Rosebrock; her parents, Dee and Nellie McKinney; stepmother, Alvina McKinney; brother, Mac Dee McKinney; sister, Laura Dickenson; son-in-law, Bill Pugh; three grandchildren, Mary Therese James, Regan Nicole Rosebrock and John David Rosebrock; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda Ueding and Jacleen Jameyson.
Survivors include her children, Myrt (Robert) Bocquet of Beeville, Tessie (Lamar) James, Mary Garcia and Dee (Debbie) Rosebrock, all of George West, Jane (Joel) Meador of Rockport, Johnnye (Jack) Jameyson of Alvin, Bob (Linda) Rosebrock of Buda and Jim (Bethany) Rosebrock of Belton; two sisters, Cecilia Gregorcyk and Mary Troell of George West; 25 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Tuesday at her residence. The funeral was today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Burial followed at the Gussettville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were her grandsons Pat James, Guy James, Neal Jameyson, Ben Rosebrock, Preston Rosebrock, William Pugh, Andrew Jameyson, Elidio “Bubba” Garcia III and Rick Rosebrock. Honorary pallbearers were John Bocquet, Kyle Rosebrock, Thomas Garcia, Chris Jameyson, John Ed James and Tim James.
Music was provided by Barbara Bednorz, organist, and accompaniment by Kim Farmer who sang “Be Not Afraid,” “Hail Mary Gentle Woman,” “On Eagles Wings” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Gonzales
George Flores Gonzales, 51, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002.
Visitation was held Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited at 7 o’clock that evening in the same location. Funeral services were held there Monday at 10 a.m. with Deacon Treviño officiating. Burial followed in Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were John David Camacho, Roland Camacho, Larry Zapata, David Guajardo, Seferino Armijo Jr., Juan Jose Gonzales and Sonny Flores. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Gonzales, Telis Flores, Fred Benavidez and Joe Baltazar.
Mr. Gonzales was born in Beeville on Sept. 1, 1951, to Ventura and Micaela (Flores) Gonzales.
He was a carpenter’s assistant for T. Flores Construction Co. He was a member of the Catholic church. He was preceded in death by his father, two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
Mr. Gonzales is survived by his mother, Micaela F. Gonzales of Beeville; one brother, Juan B. “Johnny” Gonzales of Beeville; three sisters, Estella Guajardo and Jo Landa Guajardo, both of Port Lavaca, and Rosalinda Borjas of Victoria; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Villareal
Phillip C. Villareal, 78, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002.
He was born on March 30, 1924, in San Antonio, to Antonio and Domitla (Casanova) Villareal. He was a retired jet engine mechanic who worked at NAS Corpus Christi and NAS Chase Field.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and Air Force, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He married the former Adelaida Medina in 1951.
Mr. Villareal is survived by his wife of 51 years, Adelaida M. Villareal of Beeville; a son, Phillip Villareal Jr. of Victoria; two daughters, Irene Villareal of San Antonio and Adelaida (David) Ortiz of Victoria; four sisters, Janie Martinez of San Antonio, Rose Tello of Austin, Beatriz Valdez of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Helen Villareal of Los Angeles,  Calif.; two grandchildren, Adriana Villareal and Derek Ortiz; and one great-grandson, Jason Phillip Villareal.
Mr. Villareal was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janie Villareal; two brothers; and one sister.
A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Special music was provided by Laly Cardenas. Burial followed in OLV Cemetery No. 2.
Pallbearers were Derek Ortiz, David Ortiz, Raul Reyna, Alfonso Alaniz, Jerry Narvaez and Mario Martinez. Honorary pallbearer was Adriana Villareal.

Wentz
Edith Stone Wentz, 89, of Corpus Christi died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002.
Mrs. Wentz was born on Sept. 7, 1913. She had lived in Corpus Christi for the past 20 years, and in Mathis prior to that. She was a homemaker and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Keleigh Hughes (Stuart) Sasser of Corpus Christi; two grandsons, William Hilton (Jacqueline) Hughes of Beeville and Dan Allen (Peggy) Hughes Jr. of San Antonio; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at Dobie Funeral Home chapel in Mathis. Interment followed at Cenizo Hill Cemetery in Mathis.

Guerra
Ysidra “Chico” Guerra, 77, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary will be recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Skidmore with Father Paul Rajareegam officiating. Burial will follow in Skidmore’s Evergreen Cemetery.
Mrs. Guerra was born on Jan. 2, 1925, in Pettus to Melquides and Adela (Yanez) Garcia. She was marred to Geronimo Guerra and resided in Beeville. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. She was crafty with her hands and known as a beautiful seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother and a sister.
Survivors include three sisters, Eulojia Martinez of Beeville, Jesusa Salinas of Skidmore and Adelita Zuniga of Dallas; and one brother, Eugene Garcia of Bonham.

Lieke
Martin A. Lieke, 93, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at the hospital in Kenedy.
He was born in Seguin on Oct. 30, 1909, to Henry and Johanna (Bode) Lieke. He married Emma Buegeler on Jan. 1, 1934, in Jourdanton. He was a farmer, rancher and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Lutheran church.
Funeral services were held Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Sharon Truelson officiating. Burial followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Bill, Otto, Alvin, Harry, Hilbert and Raymond Lieke and a sister, Wanda Lieke.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Lieke of Kenedy; two daughters, Irene Lieke of Floresville and Martina (Henry) Walleck of Kenedy; two sons, Elton (Saundra) Lieke of New Braunfels and Ronnie D. Lieke of Kenedy; a sister, Thelka (Harry) Coldeway of Brookesmith; four sisters-in-law, Ivy, Bertha and Marga Lieke and Alice Coldeway; his grandchildren, Cathy (Buster) Pawelek, Cymantha (Carl) Plant, Freddie (Karen) Walleck, Brian Lieke and Eric (Shannon) Lieke; great-grandsons, Garrett Pawelek, Latham and Clay Walleck and Kyle and Kolby Plant.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
