Meta Reich

Meta Reich of Crawford died June 26, 2002 at the age of 94.
Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crawford with Pastor Tom Beers officiating. Interment was in St. Paul Memorial Park.
Mrs. Reich was born Feb. 6, 1908, in Coryell City to the late Otto and Heneretta Sada (Richter) Schraeder. She attended school at Prairie Chapel. On Nov. 28, 1928, she married Paul Reich at St. John Lutheran Church in Coryell City. They farmed in the Crawford area for many years. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1983. On Sept. 29, 1984, she married Alfred Reich at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton. He preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 1989. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie Schraeder and Edwin Schraeder; and a grandson, Brian Reich.
Survivors include sons, Marvin Reich of Crawford, Raymond Reich of Waco, Elgin Reich of Irving and Wayne Reich of Duncanville; daughters, Nelda Hoppe of Waco and Dorothy Talbert of Crawford; brothers, Herbert Schraeder of McGregor and Herman Schraeder of Fort Worth; a sister, Ella Stokes of Meridian; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Paul Memorial Park, 140 Prairie Chapel Road, Crawford, TX 76638.

Glenda Bove

Glenda Dawn Bove of Gatesville died July 19, 2002 in Gatesville. She was 56.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Live Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Key officiating. Burial was in Turnersville Cemetery.
Mrs. Bove was born Sept. 24, 1945, in Clifton, the daughter of Faynell Fullwood Clay and the late Rev. Elzie “Judge” Clay. She attended Ector High School in Odessa, and graduated from Grayson Community College in Sherman where she received a degree as a respiratory therapist. She worked 15 years as a respiratory therapist at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport. On Nov. 19, 1985, she married Anthony Richard Bove and they moved to Gatesville in 1992. She was a member of Live Oak Baptist Church and the Doreus Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband, Anthony “Tony” Bove of Gatesville; her mother Faynell Clay of Gatesville; daughter, LeAnn Kathleen Huddleston of Austin; sons, Darwin Lee  White of Denton and John Franklin  White III of Fort Worth; sister, Donna Gay Clay of Gatesville; and eight grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Live Oak Baptist Church.

Jamie Adams

Jamie Adams, 86, of The Grove, died July 21, 2002 in Temple.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Flat with the Rev. Mike Smith and the Rev. Blake Kimbrough officiating. Burial was in Flint Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Adams was born Aug. 29, 1915, in the Seattle community of Coryell County, the daughter of the late J. Ellis and Estella Dixon Lockabey. She was raised and attended school in Coryell County and went on to receive her teaching certificate from Southwest  Texas State University. She married her high school sweetheart, R.T. Adams, on April 9, 1937, and they made their home in Houston. They moved to The Grove in 1986. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 1987. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Flat.
Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Anderson of Houston, Tommie Purbaugh of Lakeway, Estelle Rose of Elgin and Priscilla Arnold of Liberty; a son, Tim Adams of Grand Prairie; one sister, Maud Lynn of Gatesville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mark Anderson, Scott Anderson, Kerry Anderson, Ron Adams, Kyle Adams, Sam Arnold and Kelly Testorff.
The family requests memorials be given to the First Baptist Church in Flat.

Pauline Weinberger

Pauline Evetts Weinberger, of Dallas and formerly of Waco, died July 24, 2002 at her residence. She was 93.
Graveside services were held Monday at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville with the Rev. Nathan Booth officiating.
Mrs. Weinberger was born Aug. 17, 1908, in Gatesville to the late Robert Newton and Mary Belle Parker Evetts. She was married to Al Weinberger. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Margaret Price and Frankie Ridling; and two brothers, Roy Evetts and Hugh Evetts.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including several in Gatesville.

The family requests memorials be made to the Human Society-Animal Shelter, 2032 Circle Road, Waco, TX 76706.

Mildred B. Huff

Mildred B. Huff died July 11, 2002 in Belton at the age of 88.
Funeral services were held July 14 in Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Chapel in Kingsland with the Rev. Tommy Beck officiating. Burial was in Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Kingsland.
Mrs. Huff was born May 26, 1914, in Combine to the late Sally Hobbs and James W. Mathis. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thomas M. Huff.
Survivors include her daughters, Alice “Dina” Waters of Gatesville and Betty Willingham of Belton; step-daughters, Sandra Reynaud of Pollac Pines, CA, and Jeannine Hutchinson of Sandy, Utah; step-son, Tobin Huff of Aurora, CO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were David Waters, Dan Waters, Ted Waters, John Willingham Sr., James M. Willingham and John Willingham III.

Graham Searcy

Graham Searcy of McGregor died Aug. 7, 2002 in McGregor. He was 65.
Funeral services were held Friday at Cole Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor with Dr. James Pool officiating. Interment was in Post Oak Cemetery near Oglesby.
Mr. Searcy was born Oct. 6, 1936, in Oglesby, the son of the late James Thweatt and Emma Kathryn (Walker) Searcy. He graduated in 1955 from Oglesby High School. In 1965, he moved from Oglesby to McGregor. He married Jean Hughes on June 1, 1968, in McGregor. He was a farmer and rancher in the Oglesby area for many years, and in his earlier years, he enjoyed steer roping. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in McGregor. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Kole Bates.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Searcy of McGregor; two sons, Keith Searcy of Dallas and Bill Searcy of Hewitt; two daughters, Susan McGrath of Robinson and Donna Bates of McGregor; stepdaughter, Janet Neal of Waco; a sister, Rebecca “Becky” Paris of Hewitt; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family requests memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, 500 South Madison, McGregor, TX 76657; or McGregor Ambulance Association, c/o Mynett Taylor, 311 South Main Street, McGregor, TX 76657.

V. Marie Jones

V. Marie  Jones died Aug. 13, 2002 in McGregor at the age of 96.
Funeral services were held Friday at Cole Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor. Interment was in Eagle Springs Cemetery.
Mrs.  Jones was born Sept. 20, 1905, near the Whitson community on the Coryell/McLennan county line to the late Charles Franklin and Martha Helen (Irvin) Jones. She attended school at Whitson, Walker-Harris and Gatesville before graduating in 1924 from McGregor High School. On Jan. 24, 1941, she married Monroe Parmer  Jones in Gatesville. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1992. She and her family were caretakers of Mother Neff State Park for a number of years. Mrs.  Jones and her sister, Tullie, operated a store for Gov. Pat Neff at the park. She also assisted in managing all the financial booksfor the park. She participated in the original dedication service for the park held on Mother’s Day in 1934. She remained on the family’s farm near Whitson until the death of her husband and older brother in 1992. She then moved to McGregor for a brief period of time and then to Gatesville in 1995. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jesse Jones, Zack, Jones, Claude Jones, and Clyde Jones; and sisters, Tullie  Jones and Katy Jones.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Eagle Springs Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 1558, Moody, TX 76557.

Charles Allen

Charles Allen, 60, of Rankin, died Aug. 17, 2002 in Temple.
Funeral services were held earlier this week.
He was born in Levelland. He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Heflin of Bozman, Mont.; mother, Pauline Sheffield of Rankin; and brother, Tommy Sheffield of Gatesville.

Pearl Bauman

Pearl (Johnnie) Bauman, 94, formerly of Gatesville died Sept. 29, 2002 in Waco.
Graveside services were held Tuesday in Restland Cemetery in Gatesville with the Rev. Charles Grossman officiating.
Mrs. Bauman was born June 15, 1907, in Flat to the late John Brown and Mary Moore Brown. She was a homemaker, a charter member of Eastwood Baptist Church, and had learned signing to help the deaf. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest C. Bauman Sr. in 1951.
Survivors include a son, Ernest C. Bauman Jr. of Waco; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to Hillcrest Hospice, P.O. Box 5100, Waco, TX 76708-0100.

Mr. Knox Whitt

Mr. Knox Whitt, age 76, of Gatesville, died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with Deral McWhorter officiating. Burial was in Pearl Cemetery.
Mr. Whitt was born on May 21, 1926, in Pearl,  Texas, to the late Holbert and Dessie Manning Whitt. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Anna Sanders on July 21, 1945. He worked for Civil Service for 28 years. He served for 23 years in the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department. He was an elder at Cedar Ridge Church of Christ. He loved being outdoors and fishing, and loved his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Whitt of Gatesville; sons, Jimmy Whitt and wife Judy of Hamilton and Danny Whitt and wife Janet of Gatesville; grandchildren, Terri Martin, Jayson Whitt, Brandon Whitt and Jamie Whitt; and great-grandchildren, Brad and Megan Martin, Cody and Julia Whitt, Ashley Whitt and Alex Whitt.
