Longoria
Baldemar V. “Balde” Longoria, 75, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, in Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville. He was born June 12, 1926, in Beeville to Felix O. and Brigida (Villarreal) Longoria. He was retired, having worked for 17 years at NAS Chase Field in the civil service and also worked for American National Insurance Co.
He was a member of the Catholic church and a lifetime member of the Holy Name Society, a Scoutmaster for Troop 128, Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. He worked as a score keeper for the Beeville Little League. He served with the U.S. Navy for three years.
He was preceded in death by his father on April 29, 1973, and his mother on March 28, 1982.
Survivors include his wife, Dolores Perez Longoria of Beeville; three daughters, Mary Alice (Robert) Rivera and Denise (Lawrence Arispe) Longoria, all of Beeville, and Bridgett (Freddy) Escamilla of Corpus Christi; two sons, John (Sonia) Longoria of Corpus Christi and Joseph (Sylvia) Longoria of Houston; five brothers, Corando Longoria and Felix (Teodosa) Longoria, all of Corpus Christi; Rey V. (Georgia) Longoria of Beeville; Raul (Betty) Longoria of Cleburne and Alvezo (Lydia) Longoria of Houston; and nine grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, with Father Richard Gonzales officiating.
Burial with full military honors followed in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Lawrence Arispe, Andrew Rivera, Randy Luevanos, Raul Casarez, Jason Rivera and Rosendo Garcia. Honorary pallbearers were all members of the Holy Name Society.

Ortiz
Pedro “Pete” Ortiz Sr., 87, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001. He was born Jan. 22, 1914, in Blanconia to Juan and Maria Elena (Vega) Ortiz. He was a retired body man and had been involved in the upholstery business. He was a member of the Catholic church.
Mr. Ortiz was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Celia Morón Ortiz, on June 13, 1994; a daughter, Mary Helen Gonzales; and two sons, Pete Ortiz Jr. and Toby Ortiz.
Survivors include three sons, Antonio “Tony” Ortiz Sr. and wife Mera of George West; Frank Morón Ortiz and wife Cookie of Friendswood and Henry Ortiz and wife Evelyn of Victoria; two brothers, Juan Ortiz of Alice and Beto Ortiz of Belton; 26 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Treviño Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating
Burial followed in Our Lady of Victory Cemetery No. 2. Pallbearers were Michael Chavez, Tony Ortiz Jr., Joe Henry Ortiz, Ron Pedro Ortiz, Joseph Ortiz and Roland Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers were Toby, Robert and Ricky Ortiz, Luis Alvarado III, Eddie Michael Ortiz and Ricky Flores.

Garza
Funeral services are pending at Treviño Funeral Home for Maria Garza, 92. She died Friday, July 5, 2002.
She was born Nov. 26, 1909 in Goliad. She was a housewife and a Catholic.
Survivors include her daughter, Isabel (Placido) Garcia of Beeville; and son, Ernesto Garza of Beeville.

Hernandez
Dionicio Reynaldo Hernandez, 55, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002.
Rosary was recited Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Treviño Funeral Home chapel. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Tynan. Burial followed in San Pedro Cemetery in the Clareville community. Pallbearers were Jesse Garcia, Bernie Castillo, Lorenzo Barrientes Jr., Daniel Rodriguez Jr., Wesley Hernandez and Bernie Garcia.
Mr. Hernandez was born in Colorado City on Sept. 20, 1945 to Lionisio and Severa (Peña) Hernandez. He was a resident of Tynan and a truck driver. He was a member of the Catholic church.
He is survived by his wife, Angelita Garcia Hernandez of Beeville; four daughters, Maria Luisa (Steve) Ramos, Rachel and Carolina Hernandez, all of Corpus Christi, and Sandra (Lorenzo) Cantu of Beeville; three sons, Donnie (Olga) Hernandez of Tynan, Eloy (Cindy) Hernandez of Port Lavaca, and Leonard Hernandez of Beeville; two brothers, Reynaldine Hernandez of Beeville and Hector (Sylvia) Hernandez of Corpus Christi; his mother-in-law, Lydia Garcia of Tynan; and 21 grandchildren.

Martinez
Juanita Galvan Martinez, 92, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville.
Visitation was held Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Angelus Funeral Home chapel. Rosary was recited that evening at 7 o’clock at the same location. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today (Saturday) at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Father Balaswamy Pasala officiating. Burial will follow in the Clareville community’s San Pedro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Refugio Martinez Jr., Ralph Martinez, Gerald Garza, Larry Garza, Juan Manuel Martinez, and Guillermo Martinez Jr. Honorary pallbearer is Gabriel Sanchez.
Mrs. Martinez was born in Clareville on Aug. 21, 1909, to Benino and Rafaela (Montemayor) Galvan. She married Enrique Martinez and resided in Beeville. She was a homemaker and a member of St. James.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Reynaldo and Enrique Martinez Jr.; and a daughter, Maria Teresa Martinez.
She is survived by her three sons, Refugio Martinez of Seguin, Julian Martinez of Vallejo,  Calif., and Manuel Martinez of Beeville; two daughters, Lucia Martinez Martinez and Hilaria “Lala” Garza, both of Beeville; 35 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Simmons
Mary Lou Simmons, 54, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, in a San Antonio hospital following a sudden illness.
Visitation was held Friday from 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Roberson Funeral Home chapel in Three Rivers.
A memorial funeral service will be held Saturday, July 13, at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Live Oak County at 6 p.m.
Mrs. Simmons was born to Aurelio and Estella Lopez on Oct. 2, 1947, in Live Oak County. She was a devoted and dedicated member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 40 years.
Survivors include her husband, Heston Simmons of George West; her mother, Estella Chapa Lopez of Three Rivers; her son, Phillip (Dina) Simmons of San Diego; her sister, Adelita Lopez Conard of Three Rivers; and two grandchildren, Salena and Sara Simmons of San Diego.
Services under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home of Three Rivers.

Allums
Barbara June Allums, 49, died Aug. 25, 2003, at her home.
She was born on June 6, 1954, in Kansas City, Kan., to Robert Frank and Mary Virginia Olsen.
Survivors include her brother, Robert Olsen of New York, N.Y.; and two sons, Larry Bordell of New Braunfels and Bobby Bordell of St. Peters, Mo.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Alward
Elizabeth Alward, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003.
She was born in Canada on Sept. 17, 1922, to George Anasky and Annie Starchuk. She enjoyed spending quality time with her friends and family.
Survivors include two daughters, Galy Gokor and Nancy Brennan, both of Blenheim, Ontario, Canada; and a special friend, Edward Bennett of Beeville.
Memorial services will be held on Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. in the Blenheim Cemetery in Blenheim, Ontario, Canada.

Booth
Wilma Dean Booth of San Antonio, 73, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall in Beeville.
Mrs. Booth enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Allen Booth Sr.; her parents, Troy and Minnie Shaw; and her sisters, Rena and Valene.
Survivors include her sons, Norman Allen Booth Jr., Roger Dale Booth and wife Diana, and Christopher Troy Booth and wife Arlene; siblings, Virginia, Frieda and Mike; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; step-children James, Joyce, Jodi and Pete; and other loving family members.
Arrangements were handled through Porter Loring Mortuary North, San Antonio.

Gardner
Velma Margaret Gardner, 82, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 2:30 to 8 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at the same location with Bob Patterson officiating. Special music included “In the Garden,” “Precious Memories” and “Peace in the Valley.” Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Layton Adams, Tommy Wroten, Jack Burke, Bob Gardner, Robert Kingrea and Cody Blankenship.
Mrs. Gardner was born in Beeville on Nov. 20, 1920, to T.H. and Francis “Fannie” Kingrea. She married James L. Gardner on Sept. 7, 1941, in Beeville. She lived here most of her life, living in McKinney for the five years preceding her death. She was a housewife and an administrative assistant in the Beeville Independent School District. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She participated in the Autumn Festival Dance Group, Beeville Coca-Cola All-Stars Softball Team and Bee County horse shows.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in March 1997, her parents, a brother, George Kingrea of Midland, and sisters Eula Rothlisberger of Beeville and Ethel Smith of Bacliff.
Survivors include two sons, James L. “Jim” Gardner III and wife Jennifer of Crawford and John Gardner and wife Patti of McKinney; four granddaughters, Melodye and Heather Gardner and Katherine and Carolyn Gardner; a twin sister, Marguerite Fritz and husband Jack of Sebring, Fla.; a sister, Alice Odle of Midland; a brother, Tommy Kingrea and wife Nancy of West Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Beeville Church of Christ or the American Cancer Society.

Kugerl
Edna Nesloney Kugerl, 94, of George West died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003.
Mrs. Kugerl was born on Dec. 28, 1908, in Gonzales to August and Annie (Dulnig) Nesloney. She married Albert Kugerl in Kingsville on Dec. 30, 1941. She was a housewife, a farmer and rancher, and was a member of the Baptist faith.
During her life, she did custom meat processing for 200 people and ran a small grocery store in George West. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, animals, camping, sticker picking, fishing and hunting. She had a salt and pepper shaker collection that numbered more than 2,000, and enjoyed making and giving away Christmas ornaments to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Albert Kugerl.
Survivors include two daughters, Odmae Perron of Taft and Carole Duckworth of George West; four grandchildren, David Perron and family of George West, Cathi (Perron) Volkman and family of Portland, Bodie Duckworth and family of Alvin, and Koby Duckworth and family of Pleasanton,  Calif.; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Della Terry of Kingsville.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Galloway’s Chapel in George West. The graveside funeral was also held on Tuesday with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.
