ANNA MAE PIPKIN

Anna Mae Pipkin, 86, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at Brazosport Memorial Hospital. She was a longtime resident of New Caney,  Texas, and relocated to Lake  Jackson in 1998 to be near family.

Visitation will be held at Stroud Funeral Home in Clute,  Texas on Wednesday, December 11, 2002, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Following visitation, funeral services will be held at Stroud Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. John A. Hatch officiating. Great granddaughter Camaryn Bolton will sing.

Burial will be at Restwood Memorial Cemetery following the service.

Mrs. Pipkin was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Whitman Pipkin; son, Reaford Ray Pipkin, Sr.; daughter, Julia Ann Campbell; and grandson, Reaford Ray “Sunny” Pipkin, Jr.

She is survived by daughters, Melba Joyce Leeper & husband, Ray of Lake Jackson, Betty Sue Crooks & husband, Jack of McAllen, Sharon Kay Sump of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; and daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Stafford of Harlingen; sister, Jackie Melder of Houston. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. There are many other relatives and friends who will miss her.

Anna Mae was born in Carter County,  Oklahoma on March 19, 1916. She was wed to Stanley in 1933, and enjoyed 65 years of marriage. The Pipkins raised their family in the Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi. Retirement years were spent in New Caney. Anna Mae was a member of the River Road Baptist Church in New Caney.

She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her and will be remembered for her unconditional love and dedication to others. She will also be remembered for her generosity and great sense of humor. One of her greatest pleasures was crocheting afghans for family and friends.

JESSE “OLLIE” MCLEAN

Jesse “Ollie” McLean, 86, of Clute, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2002, at his home. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a 55 year member of Mason Harlandale Lodge No. 1213, a Noble of the El Mina Shrine Temple. He was also a 40 year member of I.B.E.W. Local 716 and owned and operated McLean Electric for over 30 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was born on August 12, 1916, in Rio Vista,  Texas. He moved to Clute in 1953.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret of Clute; one granddaughter, Kathy Wells and husband, Mike of Lake Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Sarah Wells; and one brother, Maxie McLean of Houston.

He was preceded in death by his only child Kathryn “Dianne” Kugler; son-in-law, Lonnie; an infant granddaughter, Jane Marie Kugler; and two sisters, Dorothy Nell McLean and Kathryn Miller.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at the Lakewood Chapel.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2002, at Lakewood Chapel in Clute with the Rev. Nona  Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Restwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Milton Foley, Louie Rangel, Jack Richardson, Joe Sharp, Roy  Taylor and Jared Wessels.

Honorary pallbearers are, his dear friend of 83 years, Mort Ewing, Kenneth Hodges and E.L. Otto.

SHIRLEY JOAN STURTRIDGE

Funeral services for Shirley Joan Sturtridge, 69, of West Columbia,  Texas will be held in Kansas City, Kansas.

Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden in Kansas City, Kansas.

Visitation will be between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2002, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia.

She was born Thursday, November 2, 1933 in Kansas City, Kansas and passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2002, in West Columbia,  Texas.

Shirley was of Methodist faith, although not active in church for several years. Graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1951. Worked for Bethany Hospital, Doctor Palaskas, various insurance companies, Ward Paper Box, Co., and Phillips Petroleum Co. from 1975 until 1999. Transferred to Phillips’ Sweeny plant in 1982, and lived in West Columbia. Former member of Wy-Jon Bowling Assoc. in Kansas City and the National Senior’s Sports Assoc. She considered Dub’s Dread as her home golf course in Kansas City and Rio Colorado and West Brazos Golf Center as her favorite courses in  Texas.

She is survived by her uncle, Roy Sturtridge and wife, Katie; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Joseph & Mary Marcella (Lyons) Sturtridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made in Joan’s name to the Swing for a Cure Breast Cancer Golf Tournament.

EATHEL MAE CARY

Eathel Mae Cary, 94, died December 10, 2002, at Country Village Care in Angleton. She was born in  Oklahoma City,  Oklahoma on October 10, 1908. In 1927, she married Robert K. Cary and in 1939, they moved to Southern California with their two sons. In 1994, they moved to Richwood to be near family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. Cary; son, Ron Cary; and brothers, Dean, Earl, and Glenn Dungey.

She is survived by her son, Robert K. Cary, Jr. and wife, Delores of Lakewood Ranch, Florida; daughter-in-law, Marilynn Cary of Richwood; grandchildren, Linda Hudson & husband, Mike of Bradenton, Florida, Robin Magee & husband, Jay of Gig Harbor,  Washington, Rick Cary and wife, Jennifer of Lake Jackson; Teresa Cary-Brown of Richwood; great grandchildren, Jennifer Cary, Elizabeth Cary, Timothy Brown, Scott Brown, Paul Cary, Madeline Echols and Anthony Echols.

Arrangements by Stroud Funeral Home, Clute,  Texas. 979-265-1188.

TERRY LEA CASTERLIN

Terry Lea Casterlin, of Clute, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at the age of 44.

Terry was born in Newton, New Jersey to Charles and Lousia Card on November 25, 1958. She came to this area 21 years ago.

She is survived by her father, Charles L. Card, Jr. of Lafayette, New Jersey; son, Alan Casterlin, Jr. of Clute; brothers, Charles Card of Sebring, Florida, Richard Card of Branchville, New Jersey, Robert Card and Michael Card of Lafayette, New Jersey; sisters, Charlene Kristensen of Clute, Judy Fairchild of Lafayette, New Jersey, Patricia Holmes of Galveston, Dolly Jennings of Sebring, Florida, and Wanda Nicholson of Galveston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

CALCEDONIA “JESSIE” PRINZ

Calcedonia “Jessie” Prinz, age 72, died peacefully at home in Lake  Jackson on December 9, 2002.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Edward J. Prinz; son, Dennis Prinz and daughter-in-law, Margarita Prinz of Lake Jackson, Robert Prinz and daughter-in-law, Linda of Long Island, New York; daughter, Anita Prinz of New York City; grandchildren, David Prinz of Richardson, Lisa Prinz of San Marcos, and Jonathan & Michael Prinz of Long Island, New York; sister, Fran Muller of Delray Beach, Florida; and brother, Frank Favata of Coral Springs, Florida.

Jessie was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Long Island in 1952, soon after marrying. They raised their family on Long Island before relocating to Delray Beach, Florida in 1981. They later relocated to  Texas to live with their son and daughter-in-law.

She was loved and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial mass will be held on December 11, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Lake Jackson,  Texas.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

ANNA “MARY” MARIE HOCK

Anna “Mary” Marie Hock, 84, of West Columbia,  Texas will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 12, 2002, at St. John’s Catholic Church in West Columbia with Father Tin Pham officiating.

Burial will be at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest in West Columbia,  Texas.

Visitation will be between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel in West Columbia.

She was born Friday, March 15, 1918 in Plantersville,  Texas and passed away Monday, December 9, 2002 in Houston,  Texas.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Chuch in Brazoria.

She is survived by her son, Bennie Hock, Jr. & wife, Mozel of Carthage; daughters, Willa Mae Ondras of West Columbia and Mary Jane Cook & husband, Donald of Brazoria; sisters, Lucy Klovenski of Deckers Prairie and Angie Klovenski of Houston; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Hock, Sr.; and five brothers & four sisters.

Pallbearers will be friends and nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Memorial contributions can be made at Hospice Care Team.

Billy Roy Adkins
Billy Roy Adkins, 72, formerly of Houston,  Texas passed away in Freeport,  Texas on Saturday Oct. 12, 2002. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Vogel officiating.

The family will meet and greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

Bill served in the Army during the Korean War, was retired from management for southwestern Bell after 33 years of dedicated service and again retired from the oil field business. He was also a member of the Velasco Masonic Lodge #757.

Bill is survived by daughter Samantha Adkins Odom and husband Tommy of Lake Jackson, TX, son Graham Adkins of Houston, TX, sister Charlene Brimage of Freeport, TX, his only grandson Marshall Tullous of Lake Jackson, TX, favorite niece Marlene Collier and nieces Denise and Daphne, and four nephews: Melton, Billy Ray, Donnie Adkins and Gary Brimage, several great nieces and nephews and special friend Audrey Nicholas of Houston, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie Lee and Bessie Geneva Adkins and three brothers: Paul, James and Willie Adkins.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bellow, Asa Lemaire, Juan Montes, Bill Love, Howard Okabayashi, David Call, and Robert Barham. Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Domingues, Jack Fair and Hub Norris. Funeral services by Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Delbert Leon Gordon
Delbert Leon Gordon, 58, of Lake Jackson, died Oct. 10, 2002. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Stroud Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Ryan officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at Stroud Funeral Home. Interment will be at Restwood Memorial Park.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict. He was an area resident and BASF employee for 26 years, and was active in Lake  Jackson Little League as a coach and manager.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Gordon and Dollie Weimers.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Gordon; two daughters, Angel Gordon and Tiffany Gordon; one son, Dustin Gordon; and many other loving relatives and friends.

TENNIE M. WHITAKER

Services for Tennie M. Whitaker, 91, of Tempe, Arizona, formerly of Diboll, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. C.G. “Buster” Grigg officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lynches Chapel Cemetery near Alto.

Mrs. Whitaker was born March 17, 1911, in Pollok,  Texas, the daughter of Victoria Louisa (Burchfield) and John David McComb. She died, February 2, 2003, in Tempe, Arizona.

Mrs. Whitaker was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Diboll’s First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Dean Whitaker of Lafayette,  Louisiana; son, and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Paula Whitaker of Tempe, Arizona; daughter, Billie Sue Whitaker of Lafayette,  Louisiana; daughter, and son-in-law, Donalyn and Donald Bussear of Houston; son-in-law, Michael Melton of Houston; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Ann “Sweet” Gardiner of Rusk, Mattie Lee Glover and Fannie Mae Powell, both of Diboll; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Whitaker was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel Norman Whitaker, in 1984; sons, Norman Lanell Whitaker in 1951 and Bobby Joe Whitaker in 1941; daughter, Vada Jean “V.J.” Melton, in 1985; and brother, B.D. McComb.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Whitaker’s grandsons and great-grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home.
