Linda Jacobs

Linda Jacobs of Gatesville died Aug. 21, 2004 in Waco at the age of 59.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Cole Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor, with the Rev. Dub Oliver officiating. Interment followed in McGregor Cemetery.
Mrs. Jacobs was born Sept. 18, 1944, in Gatesville, the daughter of the late Ernest Milton and Ida Louise (Gilchrest) Morgan.
At an early age, she moved to McGregor High School where she was a 1963 graduate of McGregor High School. She later attended McLennan Community College where she received her LVN certification in nursing. Prior to her nursing career, she was employed by First National Bank in McGregor as a proof operator. On March 28, 1964, she married Lester Dean Jacobs in McGregor. Mrs. Jacobs was employed as a nurse at Scott and  White-McGregor and Moody Clinics, Midway Clinic, Hillcrest Hospital Emergency Room and later at Westview Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church and St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Lester Jacobs of Gatesville; one son, Dean Morgan Jacobs of Gateville; one daughter, Mashara Whitt of Woodway; and three grandchildren.
Casketbearers were Wyndell McDaniels, Reese Syzdek, Harlan Williams, Mickey Williams, Mark Yows and Randy Yows.
For those desiring, the family has suggested the charity of the donor’s own choosing, for memorial contributions.

Selma Tina Zuehlke

Selma Tina Zuehlke of Moody died Aug. 7, 2004 at a Austin nursing home. She was 85.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in Temple with Patricia Dietrich officiating. Burial followed at Moffat Cemetery.
Mrs. Zuehlke was born in Page on Aug. 7, 1919, to the late William and Julie Mosebach  Schmidt. She worked with her husband, Louis Zuehlke, in the family business, The Grove Lumber Yard. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was a Coryell County resident for many years.
She is survived by seven children, Robert Zuehlke of Austin, Harvey Zuehlke of Warrenton, VA, Harvey Zuehlke, Joe Zuehlke and Roy Zuehlke, all of Moody, Kathryn Warren of Garland and Peggy Rogers of Houston; brothers, Eddie  Schmidt of San Antonio and Werner  Schmidt of Austin ; sisters, Bertha Wieland of Pflugerville and Hattie Oertli of Austin; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

J.K. Blackwell

J.K. (Keener) Blackwell of Lampasas died Aug. 25, 2004 at a Burnet hospital. He was 81.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas with Ministers Lon  Jones and Boyce Edwards officiating. Interment was in Killeen Memorial Park.
Mr. Blackwell was born Feb. 2, 1923, in the Coryell County community of Brown’s Creek to the late Edwin Willis and Ada Cordeliah Hill Blackwell. He moved with his family to the Clear Creek Community where he completed grammar school. He then attended Antelope High Consolidate School and then Killeen High School. On June 20, 1942, he married Nelda Baird in Killeen. He helped in the building of Camp Bowie in Brownwood. He also worked on a bridge gang, building bridges on new highways. He had a 29-year career of government service at Fort Hood, with the exception of three years while he served in active duty in the United States Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Rampo and the USS Lauderdale. During his career at Fort Hood, he was in the engineering department of post engineers and then transferred to an inspector’s job in the fire protection division of the post engineers. He completed an 18-month business administration school in Killeen. He owned and operated the Killeen Trading Post. He taught the junior high class at a Church of Christ in Killeen until 1957 when he and his wife moved to Lampasas. He was the minister of the Kempner Church of Christ for three years. He was a member of the Killeen Masonic Lodge 1125, where he attained the rank of master Mason. He joined the Eastern Star and served as worth patron of the Killeen Eastern Star 490 in 1956-57. He was a member of the National Evangelism of Sojourners for 13 years. In 1980, he and his wife became managers of the Thunderbird Lodge at Lake Buchanan. In May 1982, he opened Blackwell’s Guns and Knife Shop in Lampasas. He was a member of the First Street Church of Christ in Lampasas. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; three daughters, Karolyn Eernisse of Bryan, Glenda Cochran of Arlington and Sheila Hood of Kempner; one brother, B.D. Blackwell of Killeen; three sisters, Frances Maud Barret of Alaska, Fannie Beatrice Sanders of Texarkana, Ark. and Daisy Fleming of Athens; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joe Blackwell, Andy Langrone, Richard (Ricky) Blackwell, Glenn Fleming, Sherwood Yancy and Rex Keele.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Backhaus, Charlie Boyce, Al Freeman, J.T. Martin and Dale DeShazo.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the Cherokee Home for Children, P.O. Box 295, Cherokee, TX 76832.

Kathryn Irvin

Kathryn Irvin of Lampasas died Sept. 16, 2004 at a Lampasas hospital. She was 72.
Memorial services were held Monday at Adamsville Baptist Church in Adamsville. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery prior to the service.
Mrs. Irvin was born May 29, 1932, in Gatesville to the late Arthur and Elisabeth Wiegand Mueller. She married Atha Harrel Irvin on June 16, 1951, in Belton, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1986. She earned an associate’s degree from Central  Texas College. She was a homemaker and a member of Adamsville Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Earl Mueller; and two sisters, Anna Mae Benton and Dorothy Benton.
Survivors include two daughters, Judith Kay Stark of Prairie Grove, AR, and Nancy Roden of Lampasas; four sons, Dee Irvin of San Angelo, Mike Irvin of Lampasas, Paul Irvin of Marble Falls and Andrew Irvin of Rumley; six sisters, Betty Carter of Illinois, Joyce Manning of Copperas Cove, Nancy Claire Baxter of Copperas Cove, Judy Mutanen of Alabama, Sophie Lacy of Dallas and Jo Sloan of Gatesville; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to Adamsville Baptist Church.

Mrs. Marianna Foust

Mrs. Marianna Forrest Brown Foust, age 71, of Gatesville, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004. A private graveside service will be held later at Smith Cemetery near Purmela.
Marianna was born on February 17, 1933, in Gatesville,  Texas, to J.O. and Sara Culberson Forrest. Her mother died eleven days later, so she was reared by her Aunt Agnes Forrest Hallonquist and Uncle Ed. She grew up in Houston and earned a degree from the University of  Texas. She moved to Gatesville around 1961. She married Charlie Foust on May 27, 1964, in Gatesville.
Mrs. Foust taught school in Houston for three years and in Gatesville public schools for twenty years. She taught in the Gatesville prison system for seven years before retiring. She was named Teacher of the Year in 1985 for the Windham School System and also served as a member of the Gatesville ISD School Board. She taught a Sunday school class at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her foster parents and her half-brother, Nathan Forrest.
Marianna is survived by her husband, Charlie Foust of Gatesville; sons, Reed Brown and wife Kim of Austin and Paul Foust and wife Sharon of Austin; granddaughter, Logan Foust of Austin; stepmother, Lucille Forrest of Ames community; half-sister, Amelia Forrest Bogard and husband Mike of Gatesville; and half-brother, Robert Forrest of Bryan.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of choice.

Thomas Duet (Tommy) Cole

Thomas Duet (Tommy) Cole, 84, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2004, at his residence.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2004, at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.
Mr. Cole was born May 24, 1920, in Mound  Texas. He was the son of the late Jess D. Cole and Oda Anderson Cole. Thomas moved to Odessa in 2001 from Monahans, where he had lived since 1946. He was a self-employed mechanic. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in the complete European Theatre. Mr. Cole was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Monahans, American Legion and the Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include sons, Marshall Brown and wife Susan of Kenai, Alaska, and Johnny Brown of East  Texas; daughters, Kelly Heffington and husband Ben of Odessa, Paula McNeme and husband Mike of Beeville, Patricia Brown and husband Craig of Big Lake, Tony Parmer of Monahans; and Rhonda Iholts and husband Keith of Dolores, CO; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Bourland

Helen Bourland, of McGregor, died Sept. 15, 2004 at the age of 88.
Funeral services were held Friday at Cole Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor with the Rev. Robert Parker officiating. Interment was in McGregor Cemetery.
Mrs. Bourland was born May 19, 1916, in Barry, the daughter of the late John Cubley and Willie Bell (Watkins) Robison. She attended school in Barry. On Nov. 18, 1933, she married Alvis David Bourland in Barry. In 1953, she moved to McGregor. She was in the catering business from 1969 until 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she played the piano for children and youth groups in the 1950s. She was preceded in death by her husband on June 27, 1991.
Survivors include a son, Johnny Bourland of Magnolia; daughters, Kay Adcock of McGregor, Wanda Hanks of Lorena and Margaret Ann Conner of Evant; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, 700 W. Sixth St., McGregor, TX 76657; or McGregor Cemetery Association, c/o Pat Fehler, 1100 W. Sixth St., McGregor, TX 76657.

Rafael G. Vera

Rafael G. Vera of Snyder died Sept. 25, 2004 at his residence. He was 39.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Fr. Roy Badijias officiating. Burial was in Snyder Cemetery. Rosary was Monday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Vera was born Jan. 29, 1965, in Loraine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roberto Vera. He was a custodian and a lifetime resident of the Snyder area. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vera of Snyder; two sons, Rafael and Santiago Castillo of Lubbock; six sisters, Josefina V. Colunga, Dora Martinez and Delia Vera, all of Snyder, Lupe Vera of Gatesville and Theodora Torres and Anita Lomeli, both of Chicago, IL; and three brothers, Roberto Vera Jr., Daniel Vera and Ruben Vera, all of Snyder.

Pallbearers were Ruben Vera, Juan Martinez Sr., Juan Martinez Jr., Antonio Silva, Orlando Chabarin and Ignacio Chabarin.

Aldene "Jiggs" Hudson

Aldene “Jiggs” Hudson of Sherman died Sept. 25, 2004 at the age of 90.
Funeral services were held Monday in  Woods Street Church of Christ with Bill Mayes officiating. Graveside services were Wednesday in West Park Cemetery in Hereford with Tim Hargusess officiating.
Mr. Hudson was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Rochester to the late Charles Gibson Hudson and Mattie Eula Pate Hudson. He married Edith Irene Linehan on April 18, 1941, in Graham. He was a lifelong educator and coach in several  Texas communities, including Gatesville, Penelope, Hereford, Jacksboro, Haskell, Seminole, Lubbock and Lewisville, as well as Fairbanks, AK. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1972; four brothers, Joe Hunter,  White Henry, Isaac Gibson and Cecil Paul; and four sisters, Sallie, Fannie, Hattie Eula and Eva Unger.
Survivors include two sons, Aldene Hudson Jr.; a daughter, Martha Lea Lytal; a brother, William L. Hudson; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Doris Winters

Mrs. Doris Winters, age 78 of Gatesville, passed away October 6, 2004 at a local nursing home.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 8th at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with family member, Terry Aslin, officiating. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.
Doris was born on September 19, 1926 in Biloxi, Mississippi to Floyd and Ruby Sherrell. She attended school in Biloxi and in New Orleans. After graduation, she fell in love with and married Jimmy Carver. They had two children, David and Terri. She later met, fell in love with and married J.D. Waters. They had two daughters, Barbara and Patricia. Doris was a homemaker, room mother, and involved in PTA and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed reading, watching TV, traveling, and dining out. In 1979 she began her career at TDCJ at the Mountain View Unit. After retirement, she married Tommy Winters. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Sherrell; and husbands, Jimmy Carver and J.D. Waters.
She is survived by her husband Tommy Winters of Gatesville; mother Ruby Wright of Biloxi, MS; son, David Carver of Biloxi, MS; daughters, Terri McElhanney and husband Larry of Columbus, MS, Barbara Rhudy and husband David and Pat Aslin and husband Terry of Gatesville; son, Tom Winters and wife Janet of Missoula, MT; brothers, Floyd Sherrell and wife Phyllis, Donnie Sherrell, and Virgil Sherrell and wife Paulette; and sister Betty Sconiers and husband Harold, all of Biloxi, MS; grandchildren, Diana Mixon and husband Scott, Kori and Alan Davis, Chris Rhudy, Brian, Allison and Lauren Aslin, and Jessica and Sierra Winters; and great-grandchildren, Garrett and Chandler Mixon.

Memorials may be made to the Coryell Memorial Hospital Foundation.
