Walter Arthur Thomasson
Walter Arthur Thomasson was born in Houston, Texas on June 17, 1932, to Joseph Benjamin and Maggie Ola Thomasson. Walter was blessed to be born into a family of 10 children. While he lived in Houston, much of his childhood was spent in Caney Creek at his Uncle Walter’s farm. He graduated from high school in Virginia Beach, VA, and later joined the United States Navy where he served from 1950 to 1954. He then later graduated from Sam Houston State University with a B.A. and Masters degree in Education. His major interests were in History and Spanish language and culture. His teaching career of 30 years took him to Texas City, Angleton and the majority in Sweeny. Summers he spent studying Spanish in Peubla, Mexico. These trips enriched his teaching bringing authentic cultural and culinary experience to his students.

He was a combat veteran of WWII as a paratrooper SSgt in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from Phillips Petroleum as a maintenance supervisor. He was a Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Old Ocean Lodge 1284 in Sweeny and a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 74 in Brazoria. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sweeny.
