Vera Jean Cobbs
Vera Jean Cobbs died Dec. 13, 2004 at a Tyler hospital. She was 59.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Union Prairie Baptist Church in Crockett with the Rev. S.R. Dominique and Dr. Willie E. Clarke officiating. Burial was in Union Prairie Cemetery.
She was born March 7, 1945, to Bearleen Cobbs and the late Elliot Cobbs. She graduated from Center Grove High School in 1964. She worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the past 18 years, and was employed at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville at the time of her death. She was a member of the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Gatesville.
Survivors include her mother, Bearleen Cobbs; six children, Gregory Berry, Shawana Johnson, Rosiland Wingwood, Angela Perry, Billie Wingwood and Mayosha Dotson; and 10 grandchildren.
Mrs. Eleanor Kindrick
Mrs. Eleanor Kindrick, age 90, of Gatesville, died Sunday, December 19, 2004, at a local nursing center.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, December 30, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Gatesville.
Mrs. Kindrick was born on June 15, 1914, in Junction, Texas, to the late Coleman and Annie Ragland Highsmith. She grew up in Junction and graduated from Junction High School. She married Bennett Kindrick in 1933, and they have resided in Gatesville since 1941. From the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1954, and later received her master’s degree in library science. She taught at the Gatesville Elementary School for many years and taught and served as librarian for the Gatesville State School for Boys. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as the Sunday School and training union superintendent and as church librarian for many years. She was preceded in death by a son, Freddy Kindrick, in 2000; a grandson, Matthew Bennett Kindrick, in 2002; and a sister, Maurine Highsmith Dunham.
She is survived by her husband, Bennett Kindrick of Gatesville; a son, Dr. Roy Kindrick and wife Patricia of Corinth, Texas; grandchildren, Karen Lee Kindrick, Donny Kindrick and Jon Lowrey Gardner; and a daughter-in-law, Judy McClesky of Gatesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Gatesville or to the Coryell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Kenneth Carter
Kenneth Carter, 70, of Gatesville, died Dec. 20, 2004 at his residence.
Graveside services were held Wednesday at Davidson Cemetery with the Rev. John Gibson and the Rev. Sonny Garman officiating.
Mr. Carter was born April 22, 1934, in Wagner, OK, to the late John W. and Lois Gibbs Carter. He was raised and attended school in Oklahoma. He married Ethel Baker in 1953. They resided in Gatesville for more than 20 years, where he and his son, Bobby, owned and operated Carter’s Upholstery until his retirement. He was a member of the Gatesville Family Worship Center.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Carter of Gatesville; two sons, Son Carter and Bobby Carter, both of Gatesville; brothers, John Jay Carter of Tulsa, OK, Ralph Carter of Wagner, OK, and Willie Earl Carter; and one granddaughter.
Hazel Fay Evans
Hazel Fay Evans, of Belton, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005 at a Belton nursing center. She was 79.
Graveside services were held Saturday at the Moffat Cemetery in Moffat with Dolan Culp and Larry Wheeler officiating.
Mrs. Evans was born, July 3, 1925, in Gatesville to the late Hob and Tommie Kitchens Culp. She married Jim Hugh Evans on May 10, 1942. She was a resident of Coryell and Bell counties. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Hurshel Culp; grandson, Jimmy Darrell White; and her husband, Jim H. Evans.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Evans of Flat; daughters, Doris Whaley and Jimmie Drake of Moffat and Marty Drake of Temple; brother, Ray Culp of Belton; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Anna Catherine Barr
Anna Catherine Barr, 17, of Gatesville, passed away March 2, 2005.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005, at First Baptist Church in Gatesville with the Rev. Steve Dominy officiating.
Anna was born November 21, 1987, in Fredericksburg, Texas. She was the daughter of Michael and Ginger Oestreich Barr. Anna was a junior at Gatesville High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She will be remembered for her passion for theater and performing in many productions, including UIL one-act play and the Gatesville Civic Theater Association. Anna also had a love for tennis and for children, babysitting numerous children in Gatesville. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her parents, Michael and Ginger Barr; brother, Joe Barr; and grandparents, Gladys Barr and Allen and Madeleine Oestreich.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gatesville Civic Theater Association or the First Baptist Church in Gatesville.
Mattie H. Key
Mattie H. Key Mattie H. Key of Lampasas died Feb. 1, 2006 at a Temple hospital. She was 86.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Reid Schaub officiating. Interment followed in the Bluffton Cemetery in Llano County.
Mrs. Key was born in Bluffton in Llano County Oct. 20, 1919. She married Johnnie Lytle Key on July 15, 1943 in Santa Anna, CA. He preceded her in death in 1988. She had lived in Lampasas most of her life. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Chester Thorp and Richard Thorp; and a sister, Dovie Cowan.
Survivors include a son, Rodney Joel Key of Lampasas; daughter, Jane Doyle of Gatesville; brother, Loyd Thorp of Tow; sister, Lucy Hedge of Brownwood; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Rena Faye McDonald
Rena Faye McDonald of Lampasas died Jan. 30, 2006 at a Temple hospital. She was 64.
Graveside services were held Thursday at Smith Cemetery in School Creek with the Rev. John Weaver officiating.
Mrs. McDonald was born in Galveston Sept. 29, 1941 to the late Mearine and Vivian Mae Gray Greiner. She worked as a dispatcher for the Lampasas Police Department and retired from the Texas Department of Corrections as a clerk. She married Charles McDonald on Feb. 2, 1990 in Lampasas. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Lampasas and joined the Red Hatters in Adamsville. She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Roberts and a grandson.
Survivors include her husband of Lampasas; two sons, David Roberts and Raymond Roberts, both of Lampasas; three stepsons, Glen McDonald and Jeff McDonald, both of Lampasas and Wesley McDonald of Gatesville; two brothers, Ronald Greiner and Mark Greiner, both of Lampasas; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Robert Lee Howard
Robert Lee Howard, 70, passed away on Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at his residence at The Grove, Texas. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at Restland Cemetery with Rev. Willie Clarke officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Robert Lee (Bobby) Howard was born in Mart, Texas on December 3, 1935. He was the son of Samuel Truman and Estelle Oldham Howard. He graduated from University High School in Waco, Texas in 1953. After graduation he joined the US Navy and proudly served his country until he was injured and honorably discharged in 1958. From 1961 until his retirement in 1992 he was employed by the Richardson and Fort Hood Fire Department as a firefighter. He married Annette Steward on May 14, 1960 and lived in Richardson and Gatesville until Annette’s death on December 4, 1987. He married Joyce Thomas Easley in November 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Estelle Howard; brother, Billy Joe Howard; wife, Annette Howard and wife, Joyce Howard and step-son, Tommy Easley.
He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey W. Howard of Dallas and Bradley Joe Howard of Sherman: grandchildren, Amanda Annette Al-Rabbat and James Dillard Howard of Sherman and great granddaughter, Trinity Jeannette Al-Rabbat of Sherman; Step-Children, Cindy Humes, Amanda Tatum and Ricky Easley, eight Step-grandchildren and 5 step-great grandchildren.
Mary Lee Harrison
Mary Lee Harrison, 44, passed away Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 at her residence.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.
Mrs. Harrison was born on Dec. 4, 1961 in Hico. She was the daughter of Clay Lee and Gracie McGee West. She attended school in Gatesville and received her nursing degree from McLennan Community College in Waco. She worked for the Texas Department of Aging and Disabilities.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clay Lee West.
Survivors include her husband, Dain Harrison; mother, Gracie West; sons, Cory Harrison and Caleb Harrison; daughters, Tiffany Bamburger and Shawna D’Agistino; brother, Edward Newman; and three grandchildren.
Walter Eugene Faubion
Walter Eugene Faubion, 96, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006 at a Hamilton hospital.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Pearl Cemetery.
Mr. Faubion was born, Feb. 28, 1909 in Evant. He was the seventh of 13 children born to Joseph Eugene Faubion and Alice Pearl Enochs Faubion. He was a farmer and rancher in the Ireland and Aleman area for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Faubion; daughter, Nola Faye Kunkel; great-grandson, Eric Lilljedahl; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include daughters, Ludean Lilljedahl Henderson and Joy Schwalbe; sister, Alice Eugenia Davis; 10 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Aline Chandler
Aline Chandler of Gatesville died Feb. 6, 2006 at a local hospital. She was 57.
A memorial service was held Thursday at the Mountain Baptist Church in Gatesville with the Rev. Kurt Fuessel officiating.
Mrs. Chandler was born in Rockingham, NC Feb. 29, 1948 to the late George and Edna Campbell Durden. She attended school and graduated from high school in Alabama. She lived in Alabama for many years before moving to Gatesville in 1981. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include a son, John Chandler of Gatesville; a daughter, Leslie Chandler of Waco; brothers, Bob Durden and Don Durden, both of Alabama; and two grandchildren.
