Marie Walker Bruce

Marie Walker Bruce, born on September 1, 1917 in Elgin,  Texas, went to be with her Lord on Monday, May 17, 2004. Soon after graduating from Sam Houston High School, Houston,  Texas, she married Sidney J. Bruce, her husband of 57 years, who preceded her in death in 1992.
Sidney and Marie owned and operated Bruce’s For Flowers on Westheimer Street in Houston from 1935-1941. In 1941, they moved to Baytown where Sidney worked for Exxon and Marie was secretary to the principal of Baytown Junior High for 20 years. Following their retirement, they moved to Kerrville,  Texas. There, she was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and a volunteer at the Cottage Resale Shop for many years. Five years ago, Marie moved to San Antonio where she lived at the Forum at Lincoln Heights. She and her husband enjoyed traveling abroad and throughout the U.S. with friends. Her hobbies included all kinds of handwork, sewing, knitting, crafts, playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles and watching game shows.

She is survived by her two daughters: Louree Bruce Greehey, her husband Bill, their five children and spouses, Kim and Betsy Greehey, Sid and Cheryl Greehey, Doug and Margaret Greehey, Lisa and Jeff Rosenbloom and John and Leslie Greehey; also, Janie Bruce Crews, her husband Mickey, and her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Mary Louise Ward. Marie is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Elizabeth, Sid, Caroline, Meg, DeeAnn, William, and Erin Greehey; Emily, Sam, Eliza and Max Rosenbloom, and Sarah, Rachel, and Tommy Ward.

Marie loved doing anything with her large family and hearing about all of them. She was a much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 20th, at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey HealthCare, Inc., 4415 Piedras Drive West, #100, San Antonio, TX 78228.

W.A. "Boots" Buchanan

W.A. "Boots" Buchanan, "Our Honey," age 84 of Ingram, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2007 in a San Antonio hospital. He was born October 8, 1921 in Luling. In 1985, he married Lou Edler.
Mr. Buchanan was a veteran who served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was an owner of an oilfield welding service and of the Methodist faith.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Buchanan and a daughter, Sandra Weichold.

He is survived by his wife, Lou Buchanan of Ingram; ; son, Ray Buchanan and wife, Ginger of Raleigh, NC; step sons, Stephen Edler and wife, Jennifer of  Oklahoma and Chris Edler of Florida; step daughters, Pam Morey and husband, Bryan of Ingram and Pat  Jackson and husband, Russell of  Oklahoma; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2007, 11 AM at Garden of Memories Cemetery officiated by Rev. Arlie Lammers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Edna Buck
Born in Pipe Creek, TX on October 8, 1915

Services for Edna Buck, age 89 of Bandera, who passed away Monday, November 22, 2004 at her residence will be held Saturday, November 27, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera, officiated by Rev. Everett Boyce. Interment will follow at Pipe Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, November 26, 2004, 6-8 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Bandera. William Eugene Bullard, III
Born on May 22, 1947 in San Antonio, TX
Departed on May 7, 2008 and resided in North Hollywood, CA

Gene Bullard, of North Hollywood, California, precious only son of Bill and Birdie Bullard of Kerrville, passed suddenly from this life on the evening of May 7th while jogging in Los Angeles. He was 60.
Gene was the son of a career Air Force officer and therefore grew up in various places during the postings of his father, including two overseas assignments. He attended Denison High School, graduating in the Class of '65. He then completed the course of study at Grayson County Junior College and attended North  Texas State University, before choosing to join the United States Air Force. He was sworn in by his father in early 1968 and served his country four years as a meteorologist in Germany and in Spain, during which period he also participated in the Experiment in International Living in Switzerland. Following his tour of duty he studied music and drama at the University of  Texas. It was the call of a career in music which led him to Los Angeles in 1978, but he subsequently made his living there as a graphic artist and editor, working 27 years in the financial assets management sector. Gene had a lifelong interest in photography and produced an impressive body of work; in his last year he also returned to his love of music and spent much of his free time playing the piano. He is the author of one novel, The Innocent. Gene's golden voice, wry sense of humor, astute observations, infallible memory, gentle kindheartedness, his uncompromising commitment to excellence, joy in making others happy, and just plain goodness can never be replaced but will always light the hearts of those whose lives he touched.

Gene never married and is survived by his parents and his sister, Linda Bullard.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 18, 2008, 5-7 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Services will be held Monday, May 19, 2008, 10 AM at Grimes Funeral Chapels officiated by Reverend Dawson Tunnell. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories.

Danny Ray Bulsterbaum
Born in Denver City, TX on July 20, 1955
Departed on August 10, 2004, and resided in San Antonio, TX

Danny Ray Bulsterbaum, Age 49, of San Antonio, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004, in a San Antonio hospital. He was born July 20, 1955, in Denver City,  Texas, to Jimmy Fred Bulsterbaum and Bonnie F. Bone Bulsterbaum.
Danny was a member of the Catholic church, served in the U.S. Coast Guard, served on St. Phillips Community College Board for Machinists, worked for Meyer Machine Company for 12 years and he was an avid hunter.

Survivors include his wife Debbie of San Antonio; Mother, Bonnie Towers of Pipe Creek; Father-i-law, Wesley Van Matre, Jr.; two sons, Danny Bulsterbaum, Jr. And Keith Shane Bulsterbaum, both of Pipe Creek; two brothers, Kenneth Bulsterbaum of Port Lavaca and Bobby Bulsterbaum of Corpus Christi. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy Bulsterbaum and step-father Richard Towers.

A Rosary was recited Thursday August 12, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. in Grimes Chapel with Bobby Stein officiating.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 13, 2004, at 9:00 a.m., at Grimes Chapel, with Father Stan Oleksy, officiant. Interment followed in Pipe Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith Baker, Dan Butts, J. T. Turner, Keith Riley, Reyes Caballero, and Phil Martin. Honorary Pallbearers were Carroll Fries, Marlin Roden, Russell Bone, Ray Polensky, William Bone and Steven Van Matre.

Memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 420 Water, Kerrville,  Texas 78028.

Louis R. Burnett
Born in Grand Island, NE on May 11, 1917
Departed on December 3, 2003, and resided in Bandera, TX.

Bandera, TX

Louis R. Burnett, age 86 of Bandera, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 in a Kerrville hospital. He was born May 11, 1917 in Grand Island, NE. Mr. Burnett retired from the US Navy as Captain after serving 22 years, was in the construction business in Norman, OK, building houses, was pilot of the Constellation which was the largest airplane ever built at the time, and he was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Tollie Burnett of Bandera; daughter, Sharon Sue Burnett and husband, William Haman of  Jackson Hole, WY; two sons, Louis Rucker Burnett and wife, Lynn of Little Rock, AR, and John Robert Burnett and wife, Marlene of Loveland, CO; brother, Frederick Burnett and wife, Lois of Topeka, KS and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Bandera, officiated by Pastor Ron Walter and George Schultz.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Bandera.

Reuben Edward Busby
Born in Jourdanton, TX on March 27, 1924
Departed on July 17, 2004, and resided in Kerrville, TX

Reuben "Buz" Busby passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Sid Peterson Hospital. He was born in Jourdanton, TX, March 27, 1924. His parents, Reuben E. Busby and Lessie Lee Isbell, have preceded him in death. After he graduated from High School in Jourdanton, he enlisted in the Navy in 1942. In 1944, he was commissioned in the Navy and was trained as pilot for seaplanes. After the war ended of WWII, he went in to the Reserves for the Air Force and was called to active duty in the Korean War Zone, leaving behind wife, Lorene Laffoon Busby and son, E. Scott Busby. He received an Honorable Discharge as his wife was very sick. She died in 1955 and he married Beatrice L. Ford in March 1956. Mr. Busby was an ordained minister in Houston and Beatrice was a Layman Assistant Minister in Little Rock, Arkansas. Right after they were married, Busby was transferred to Del Rio as Personnel Officer at Laughlin Air Force Base. From there he was transferred to Edwards Air Force Base, then to the  Washington, DC area. He spent a year in Viet Nam as a civilian. He retired from the Pentagon, December 31, 1974. After spending a year in Southern Florida, Reuben and Beatrice went to Western Samoa. While in California, they heard of the Baha’i Faith and became members in 1962. They went to Samoa as missionaries for the Baha’i Faith and spent 5 years there. When they came back to the States they settled in Illinois, where Bea’s family lived. They moved back to  Texas to live in the Hill Country.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Busby; a son, E. Scott Busby; and brother, James B. Busby.

Reuben will be buried in Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio on Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at 9:00 a.m.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, July 20, 2004, 4:00 p.m., at the Windmill Ridge Activity Center on Goat Creek Cut Off Road in Kerrville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

Beulah Byas
Born in Lubbock, TX on May 6, 1929
Departed on June 1, 2004, and resided in Kerrville, TX

Mrs. Beulah Byas, age 75, a resident of Kerrville for over 20 years, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in a San Antonio hospital. She was born May 6, 1929 in Lubbock, TX to Marvin and Alice Elizabeth (Wright) Baggett. On May 17, 1948, she married Thomas C. Byas, Jr. in San Antonio. He preceded her in death on September 4, 1995.
Beulah was an active member of the Kerrville Trailblazers walking club. She completed walks in all 50 states as well as Australia, New Zealand, Italy, France, Greece, Turkey and the British Isles. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was actively involved in her Sunday School class and the Sanctuary choir.

Survivors include two daughters and their spouses, Joyce and Tom Griffith of Tomball, TX and Carolyn and Bobby  Jones of Lake Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Timothy Griffith, Trina Griffith, Scott Davis, Nathan Davis, Carlee Davis, Logan  Jones and three great grandchildren, Brayden Davis, Hallie Davis and Jaelynn Davis.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 4, 2004, 5-7 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels.

Services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. John Petty. Interment will follow at Nichols Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Jones, Scott Davis, Nathan Davis and Logan Jones.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.

Donald Cabaniss
Born in Danville, VA on January 24, 1933
Departed on March 21, 2004, and resided in Kerrville, TX

Mr. Donald Cabaniss, age 71, of Kerrville,  Texas, died on Sunday, March 21, 2004, at his residence. Mr. Cabaniss, a resident of Kerrville since 1978, was born on January 24, 1933, in Danville, Virginia, to Asa Gray Cabaniss and Zona Hayden Cabaniss.
He married Norma Land on May 8, 1955, in Seguin,  Texas. Donald was retired after 20 years with the United States Air Force, retiring as T/Sgt. He was also retired from the Maintenance Department with the State of  Texas. He was a member of the Turtle Creek Community Church and the American Legion.

Survivors, Wife, Mrs. Norma Cabaniss of Kerrville; Daughters, Debra Michel and husband Sidney of Kerrville, Laura Sievers and husband Ronald of Richardson and Donna Immel and husband Steven of Fredericksburg; Sisters, Patsy Hutchins and husband Wayne of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Earlene Miragliotta of Florida; Grandchildren, Kelsey Sievers, Charles Sievers and Dalton Immel. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey Long in 1983.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 22, 2004, at Grimes Funeral Chapels from 5:00 to 7:00 P. M.

Private graveside services will be held on Tuesday at Turtle Creek Cemetery, with Rev. Frankie Enloe, officiating.

Estelle Blanche Vann Callcott
Born in Galveston, TX on November 23, 1914
Departed on September 22, 2003 and resided in Austin, TX.

Estelle Blanche Vann Callcott died September 22, 2003. She was born in Galveston, TX on November 23, 1914 to W.W. Vann & Gabrielle Tacquard Vann.

Estelle graduated from Mercedes High School as Valedictorian in 1930 and then attended University of  Texas graduating in 1934. She married George H. Callcott on December 28, 1936 at the family home in Kerrville. She lived in Kerrville until the death of her husband in 1984 and then moved to a nursing home in Austin. Estelle was also an expert quilter and was a member of the Sewing Club of Kerrville.

She is survived by four children; Vann Callcott and wife Diana Sue of Arlington, Anne Townsend and husband, Ronald Townsend of Houston, Hardy Callcott of Round Rock and Gail Brown and husband Alan Brown of Tilden. Estelle is also survived by one sister, Mrs. T.D. (Billie) Hall of Mountain Home. Two other sisters, Gabrielle Vann Colquitt and Elizabeth Vann preceded her in death. There are eight grandchildren, Will Callcott, Cindy Stager, Heather Fike, R.C. Townsend, II, Holly Casley, Linda Lang, Denise Brown and Justin Brown and nine great grandchildren.

Family requests no flowers, but perhaps a donation to Make a Wish Foundation or favorite charity.

Memorial services will be held at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Saturday, September 27, 2003, 10:00 a.m. officiated by Father Greg Nevlud.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of GRIMES FUNERAL CHAPELS of Kerrville.
