Carolyn Sue Shatto

Carolyn Sue Shatto, 67 years old died at her home in Kemp, March 22, 2010.

She was born October 19, 1942 in Dallas,  Texas, daughter of the late Jesse Suell Moore and Gladys Loretta Jones.

She was Baptist by faith and worked as a bartender.

Surviving are her husband, William Shatto of Kemp, 2 daughters, Rhonda & husband Ron Young of Seven Points; Donna & husband Barry  Schmidt of Seven Points; son, Wilbur "Billy" Shatto of Tool; 2 sisters, Doronda "Dee" & husband PeeWee Witherspoon, and Dorothy Clark; 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceeded in death by her parents and a grandson, James Seay.

A celebration of life was held at the home of William Shatto, Sunday, March 28, at 2:00 pm.

Arrangements were made by Tomlinson Funeral Home, Seven Points.

Lois Seigman

Memorial services for Lois Seigman age 55 of Ceder Creek lake in Henderson County were held at Pitt Grill in Mabank 3-30-10 from 4 pm - 6 pm.

Seigman was born January 22,1955 in Leveland,  Texas to Harry and Bessie Bell.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, and a brother David Bell Sr.

Survivors include her husband John Seigman, daughter, Lisa Jo Bell; a son Jerry Don Tobey; daughter Evelyn Jean Seigman; a brother Ricky Bell; 3 grandchildren: Deanna, Ovela  Johnson and Jordan Seigman; sister-law Sue Bell and Nephew David Bell Jr.

Lois was a devoted wife and mother and loving grandmother and friend to many.

She will be cherished and missed.

Barbara Nell Dunning

Barbara Nell Dunning, 61, of Mabank passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in Athens.

She was born to the late Arthur Carroll and the late Ruth Ainsworth Carroll on April 11, 1948 in Dallas,  Texas.

Ms. Dunning was a Care Giver for the Girlings Home Health Agency.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Herman Dunning, Jr.; sisters, Virginia Webb and Genie Hedge; brothers Roy Carroll and Sammy Carroll.

Survivors include: her daughter, Lisa Marie and husband, Keith Hambrick of Payne Springs; a brother, Ricky and wife, Sharon Carroll; a sister Cassie and husband, Sammy Gill; two sisters-in-law, Doris Carroll and Margaret and husband, Rayburn Holyfield; three grandchildren, Krystoll and husband, Daniel Tooley, Jay Henry and wife, Krista Dunning, Andy and fiance, Jessica Hambrick Dunning; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Tooley, Haydon Tooley, Makenna Dunning, Ryder Dunning; nieces and nephews, Angela, Darrel, Dawn, Debora, Jamie, and numerous more nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Friday, April 16 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 17 at 12 noon at the Lost Prairie Cemetery in Groesbeck,  Texas with Brother Gary Dawkins officiating.

Pallbearers were Katie Cook, Barbara Watson, Angela Dibrell, Trisha Carroll, Kristie Gill, Dawn Cleveland, Debora Hatley, Jamie Dunning and Nancy Golden.

Honorary Pallbearers: Frog Webb, Darrell Miles, Sammy Carroll, Kevin Carroll, Jay Henry Dunning and Andy Dunning.

Patricia Smith

Patricia Smith, 65, of Gun Barrel City passed away on April 28, 2010.

She was born in Pittsburgh,  Pennsylvania to the late Stanley and Mary Majewski.

Previously of Lewisville, Mrs. Smith had resided in Gun Barrel for the last nine years and was a member of Eastwood Island Alohas and was Catholic by faith.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Edward Majewski.

Survivors include her husband, Patrick Smith of Gun Barrel; one son, Timothy Smith and wife, Courtney of Lewisville; her mother, Mary Majewski of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister, Marie Erfort and husband, Philip of Gun Barrel; sister-in-law, Becky Hammond and husband, Brad of Welland Ontario Canada; two nephews and three nieces. And many loving friends.

Mrs. Smith’s services will be held in the future.

Arrangements under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.

Billy Carl Pearson

Kemp,  Texas

August 24, 1934 to May 7, 2010

Billy Carl, 75, resident of Kemp,  Texas passed away at home on Friday, May 7, 2010 after a long and courageous fight of 5 ½ years with stroke complications. Survived by his loving wife, Juanelle; 4 children Phil, Karla, Alisa and Robert; 12 grandchildren and 1 great grand daughter. His parents, Carl & Recie, and his only sister, Rita Cox preceded his death.

He was born and raised in Carrollton,  Texas. He attended Carrollton High School and North  Texas State. Billy Carl married Juanelle out of high school and they subsequently lived in Germany while he served in the Army. He loved their time in Germany and talked about it often. Upon returning to the states, he joined General Motors, eventually retiring from General Motors to follow his entrepreneurial interests. He treasured the friendships that lasted over the years from GM.

Billy Carl lived in Dallas much of his life until he pursued his dream of moving fulltime to their farm in Kaufman county. He was never as happy as being surrounded by friends and family in the green pastures with baby calves and horses all around him. His strength, determination and drive were only second to the unwavering love & devotion to his family. He will be missed, but we all celebrate that he is at peace and without pain or worry.

Services were held Wednesday, May 12 at 1:30pm at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Kemp,  Texas. (909 North Elm St)

Blanche Ladell Chase

Blanche Ladell Chase, our loving mother, passed into the arms of our Heavenly Father June 29, 2010 at the age of 84. She was born May 29, 1926 in Rylie  Texas to James H and Mollie Witherspoon Gilcrease. She was preceded in death by son, Bruce A. Chase, daughter in law Judi Chase, brothers, Ralph, Eugene Earl and Clyde Gilcrease, and our daddy, William Chase, whom she married on March 14, 1946 and spent 36 wonderful years.

From that union, were born six children and although it was a lot of work for both of them, oh what a blessing it was for us. She is survived by her children; William H. “Billy” Chase and wife Linda of Seven Points,  Texas, Everett “Ray” Chase of Leander,  Texas, Deborah Jaroszewski and her husband Ron of Glenn Heights,  Texas, Mary L Walker and husband Randy from Kaufman,  Texas, and Dale Glen Chase and his wife Sharon of Peeltown,  Texas.

She is also survived by grandchildren; Billy Ray, David, Danny, Karessa, Kristy, Joseph, Randy, Jr., Jeremy, David Ray, Brian, Heather, Brandon, Laura, Anna, Trey, and Lisa, 22 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild, who she loved dearly.

Also surviving Blanche is her sister Florence M Corbin of Seven Points, many loving nieces, nephews, friends and her sweet dog, Silver. “We could not have asked for a more loving Mother than the one the God gave us, we will be eternally grateful until we see her again waiting for us in Glory. Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Kleberg, Pastor Wayne Gilcrease to officiate. Interment will follow at Riley Cemetery. The family received friends Thursday evening at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home in Mesquite from 6-8.

Mary Lee McClure

Mary Lee McClure, 87, of Gun Barrel City, TX, passed away on March 2, 2010. She was born July 16, 1922 in Shawnee,  Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Milburn McClure; brother, Bill Williamson; sister, Roberta W. Grossman; sister, Ruth W. Downing, grandson, Edwin Aaron McClure, Jr; and grandson, Michael Justin McClure,

She is survived by a son, Edwin Aaron McClure and wife Charlene, San Antonio, TX; son, Gary L. McClure and wife Deborah of The Colony, TX; son, Randal Gordon McClure, McClellanville, SC; daughter, Cheryl Lee McClure and Jan Paul Kruger, Dallas, TX. also seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Mabank on March 5, 2010 with Rev. Chris Schoolcraft officiating.

Previously of Irving, Mrs. McClure had resided in Gun Barrel City for 34 years and was a member of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, Literacy Club, Republican Club, Women's Club, Eubank Cedar Creek Support Group, Good Samaritans and the Wesley Sunday School Club. Mrs. McClure retired from the Irving ISD.

Arrangements were under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.

Haskell Melvin Dhane

Haskell Melvin Dhane, of Scurry,  Texas passed away at his home on March 3, 2010 at the age of 86.

He was born in Van Alstyne,  Texas on October 29, 1923 to George  Washington and Amanda Dhane. Haskell served his county in the US Navy during WWII. He enjoyed waterskiing in his eighties, fishing, gardening, and raising and racing greyhounds.

Haskell is survived by his daughters: Linda Heard and husband Ronnie of Fairfield, Sharon Chase and husband Dale of Scurry; son: Bobby Cole of Cypress; sister: Juanita Grimes of Duncanville; grandchildren: Teresa  Johnson and husband Ron of Palestine, Kimberly Briggs of Palestine, Laura Cole of Mesquite, Ronald Heard of Fairfield, Brandon Cole and wife Carrie of Cypress, and Tony Heard of Fairfield; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, plus a host of family and friends. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years: Mary Ella Dhane, nine brothers, four sisters, and his parents.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. The funeral service was held at Anderson-Clayton Bros. Chapel in Kemp,  Texas on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 2:00pm with Pastor Wayne Dale Gilcrease officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Scurry,  Texas.

Becky Jan Curry

Becky Jan Curry, 58, of Gun Barrel City, TX, passed away March 8, 2010 at The Hospice of East  Texas surrounded by her family.

She was born October 27, 1951, in Dallas, TX. She was the daughter of the late James and Mozelle Reeves. On April 25, 1969, she married Marion Charles Curry.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Chris Curry; daughter, Amber McClintock, daughter Nikki and husband Lance Herell; grandchildren, Ryan Curry, Peyton Groom, Brenden McClintock and Drew McClintock; great-grandchild, Preston Curry; brother, Ronnie Reeves; sister Neita and husband Steve Bohmaker; numerous nieces, nephews, dear family, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Paul Mac Sutton.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Eubank Memorial Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home of Mabank.

SHIRLEY ALLEN EDWARDS

Services for SHIRLEY ALLEN EDWARDS, 59, of Tool, were held March 27 at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Rusty Ryon officiating. Burial followed at Malakoff Cemetery in Malakoff under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Mrs. Edwards died March 24, 2007 in a Tyler hospice. She was born Feb. 14, 1948 in Athens to the late Elvis Wiley and Edna Ramona Harris Allen. She was agraduate of Carrollton High School and resided in Irving for 35 years before moving to Tool four years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Murray Edwards of Tool; a son, Glenn Edwards and his wife Anna of Irving; two brothers, Elvis W. Allen and his wife Connie and Billy Ray Allen and his wife Lisa, all of Athens and grandchildren, Kaylee and Celeste Edwards.

Pallbearers were Mark McCrary, Todd Sagrades, Chris Allen, Danney Ventrca, Derek Allen, Wesley Allen and Fred Foley.

EWELL GLENN VENABLE

Services for EWELL GLENN VENABLE, 86, of Mabank, were held April 12 at Payne Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. David Diller officiating. Interment was in the Hughes Cemetery at Avalon under the direction of Eubank Cedar Creek Funeral Home.

Mr. Venable passed away April 9, 2007 in Mabank. He was a mechanic and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a Mason and was active in all Masonic bodies. Previously of Waxahachie, he had lived in Mabank for the past 25 years and was a member of Payne Springs United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Jean Smith Venable, two brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Venable of Mabank; two sons, Joe Glen Venable and wife Chris of Dawson and Jack Lynn Venable and wife Patty of Hunt County; a daughter, Jane Venable Peterson and husband John of Lake Way; seven grandchildren, Joe Venable Jr., Stephanie Wheeler, Michelle, Stephen Venable, Robert Venable, Stacy Venable and Brandy Peterson; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Knights Templar Eye Foundation, 1000 E. State Pkwy. Ste. 1, Schaumburg, IL 60173.

MORRIS EDWIN (BUDDY) HOPKINS

MORRIS EDWIN (BUDDY) HOPKINS, 61, of Trinidad, died April 3, 2007 at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston. He was born July 11, 1945 in Waxahachie, the son of Thomas Matthew Hopkins Jr. and Louneal Hopkins.

He worked as a hairstylist and was owner of Buddy’s Professional Hair Care in Gun Barrel City. He was an avid lover of Cedar Creek Lake and was captain of the “Sunchaser,” giving tours of the lake to tourists. His motto was “A kindler, gentler world.” Buddy was a flight engineer with the 184th Air Refueling Squadron in the  Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam era.

Surviving are his mother, Louneal Hopkins of Trinidad; daughter, Kristy Allred of Waxahachie; three sons, Jimmy Hopkins of Mabank, Eddy Hopkins of Trinidad and Randy Harris and wife Jill of Tool; a sister, Joan Lasswell and husband Lynn of San Antonio; granddaughter, Hollie Allred of Waxahachie; two grandsons, Hayden Allred of Waxahachie and Grant Thomas Hopkins of North Richland Hills; and his girlfriend, Betsy Geyer.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Hopkins Jr.

Services were held April 7 at Tomlinson Funeral Home in Seven Points with Bill Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Mankin Cemetery, Trinidad, under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home.

VIRGINIA ANN BROUMLEY

Services were held April 6 for VIRGINIA ANN BROUMLEY, 61, of Kemp, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Kemp with Rev. Jim Addison officiating. Interment followed in the Shiloh Cemetery in Kaufman County near Kemp.

Ms. Broumley was born June 8, 1945 in Terrell, the daughter of Ernest and Faye (Peters) Broumley and died April 2, 2007 in Kemp. She attended Hillcrest Baptist Church of Kemp.

Her parents; a sister, Fayrene Aday; brother, Terry Broumley and step-brothers, Billy Wayne Chandler and A.G. Chandler Jr., all preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Sharon Shelton and husband William "Cotton" of Kemp; brothers, Billy Broumley and wife Tonya of Kemp, Jerry Broumley and wife Debbie of Kemp, Ronald Chandler and wife Susan of Carrollton and Michael Chandler of Flower Mound; stepbrothers, Waymon Chandler and wife Nadine, Maxie Chandler and wife Fay and Charles Chandler and wife Elizabeth, all of Kemp; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Pallbearers were William Shelton, Cody Shelton, Mark Chandler, Danny Chandler, Ricky Chandler and John Zepeda.
