DANIEL JOHN KOCIAN
Funeral services for Daniel John Kocian, 34, of Alice were held Saturday, April 8, 2000, at Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Alice. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.
Mr. Kocian died April 3. Born in Bay City to Johnnie and Sandra Kocian of El Campo, he moved to Alice four years ago and was working for Simmons Petroleum Services as a truck driver. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to work in his garden.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include his wife, Dorothy Kocian, Alice; children, Courtney Danielle Kocian, Victoria, Tyler Kocian, Gonzales, Christian Ray Kocian, Johnathan Michael Kocian, and Destiny Nicole Marie Kocian, all of Alice; step-son, Cody Mashburn, Gonzales; sister, Connie Segree, El Campo; brothers, Rick Kocian, Ganado, and Mark Kocian, Louise.
EDMUND "ED" MATEJEK
A wake for Edmound “Ed” Matejek, 78, of Inez was held Saturday, June 10, 2000, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the family residence on Railroad Street in Inez.
Arrangements were under the direction of McCabe-Carruth Funeral Home of Victoria.
Mr. Matejek died June 7. Born Jan. 3, 1922, to the late Andrew P. Matejek and Victoria Pavlick Matejek, he was in the C.C. Camp for two terms and was a Catholic.
He is survived by sisters, Lottie Prukop, Victoria, Lydia Venglar, LaSalle, and Irene Strader and Bennie Foster, both of Inez; and brothers, Joe Matejek and Leroy Matejek, both of Corpus Christi, and Tony Matejek, Angleton.
I.C. WENDEL
Funeral services for I.C. Wendel, 82, of Llano, formerly of El Campo, were held Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at St. Philip Catholic Church with the Rev. Thu Nguyen officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna under the direction of Triska Funeral Home.
Mr. Wendel died June 4. Born Feb. 26, 1918, in Jones Creek, Wharton County, to the late Arthur Thomas and Maybell Hoesch Wendel, he was a retired football coach and teacher for the Industrial School district, a rancher and a Catholic. His record of football semifinalist in 1951 remains unbroken. He lived in El Campo until 1997 and was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Post #251.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Jean Cornelius Wendel, Llano; sons, Wayne Clyde Wendel and Timothy Wendel, both of Houston, and Tom Evan Wendel, Llano; sisters, Maybell Brunett Bittle, Austin, and Alice Elizabeth Treybig, Franklin; and three granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by parents; sister, Loretta Mrytle Fry;; and brothers, Kenneth George Wendel and Marion Henry Wendel.
Pallbearers were the Industrial Cobras Football team of 1951. Honorary pallbearer was Albert Novak.
W.L. (BILL) HARBOUR
Funeral services for W.L. (Bill) Harbour, 83, of Cypress were held Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Campbell and Arthur Newman officiating. Interment followed at County Line Cemetery under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Yoakum.
Mr. Harbour died June 5. Born March 11, 1917, in Mills county to the late Ira H. and Minnie Whitfield Harbour, he was a retired Harris County employee.
Survivors include his wife, Sadie Dollan Harbour, Cypress; daughters, Lynn Seiley, Cypress, and Lee Goggans, Magnolia; sisters, Mary Barker, Canyon Lake, and Iris Reid, Edna; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Organization, Hospice or American Cancer Society.
ERNEST G. SCHLUTER SR.
Graveside services for Ernest G. Schluter Sr., 89, of Wharton were held Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Kersten officiating.
Mr. Schluter died May 30. He was born July 10, 1910, in Kirkland to Charles and Elsie Beirwirth Schluter. He graduated from Ganado High School and he and the former Bertha Krueger were married March 31, 1941, in Wharton. She preceded him in death on Oct. 27, 1995. He was a member of St. Paul American Lutheran Church.
Survivors include sons, Ernest Schluter Jr., Beaumont, and Carl Schluter, Carrollton; sister, Marie Johnson, Houston; brother, Charles Schluter, Ganado; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Marvin Ray Schluter; and grandson, Steven Ray Schluter.
Pallbearers were Shelby Schluter, Jeffrey Blair, Gerald Coats, Bobby Kleas, Lale Capps and Paul Windham.

KOLBY JAMES TIMS
Funeral graveside services for Kolby James Tims, infant son of Jamie and Amanda Carrasco Tims of West Columbia, were held Friday, June 9, 2000, at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado with the Rev. Joseph Hybner officiating.
The infant was stillborn on June 8,2000, in Wharton.
Survivors in addition to his parents, include maternal grandparents, Patricia Carrasco and Leslie Holmes; and paternal grandparents, Diane George and Gary Tims.
Arrangements were under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home of Edna.
MARGARET ELIZABETH NOVOSAD
Funeral services for Margaret Elizabeth Novosad, 91, of Friendswood, formerly of Edna, were held Saturday, June 10, 2000, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery in Moulton under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home of Edna.
Mrs. Novosad died June 8, 2000. Born July 16, 1908, in Lavaca County, Texas, to the late Henry and Laura Boehm Schoenefeld, she was a homemaker, a Catholic and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include sons, Allen Novosad, Edna; and Sidney Novosad, League City; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents; and her husband, John Joseph “Jack” Novosad.
Pallbearers were Robert Falloure, Howard Templin, Al Morrey, John Cordary, Kenny Winkler, Rudy Winkler, Jr.

ETHEL ROSE WOLTERS
Funeral services for Ethel Rose “Hoffie” Wolters, 100, were held Friday, June 9, 2000, at First United Methodist Church in Shiner. Interment followed at Shiner Cemetery.
Mrs. Wolters died June 5. She was born Sept. 1, 1899, in Hubbard, Texas. She was the second of four children born to John Henry and Bennie Ernestine Key Hoffman. She lived in Fort Worth until her mother died when she was five and the family moved to St. Louis, Mo. where she graduated from high school and millinery school.
In 1921, she came to Shiner as a milliner at Wolter Brothers Dry Goods Store. On Aug. 18, 1928, she and Gus (Lank) Wolters were married in Hillsboro, Texas. In 1992 she was honored as the Grand Marshal of the Shiner Fourth of July parade and in 1998 the Shiner Rotary Club recognized her as their Citizen of the Year. She and her husband spent their entire married life in Shiner and took much pride in its cleanliness and beauty by contributing to the improvements at Green-Dickson Park and the purchase and installation of Christmas holiday street banners. An avid admirer of angels, she also donated the heralding angels that adorn Welhausen Park during the holidays.
She is survived by an aunt, Lucille Hoffman of Macon, Miss.; nieces; nephews; great-nieces, including Kay Lynn Simons and husband Dennis of Edna; great-nephews; and numerous great great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist church of Shiner or the Hoffie and Lank Wolters Shiner Public Library and Cultural Center.
Pallbearers were Buddy Minear, Elvis Brooks, Lange Hoffman, Steven Barker, Greg Griffin and Dennis S. Simons. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Robert Wagner, Dr. Tim Wagner, Dr. Ralph Wagner and Kirk Otterson.
WILLIAM "WILLIE" EUGENE NICKEL
Funeral services for William “Willie” Eugene Nickel, 73, of Edna are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home.
Mr. Nickel died June 12. Born April 15, 1927, in Jackson County to the late Ulysses S. Grant Nickel and Maggie L. Bielek Nickel, he was a retired potman for Alcoa Aluminum and was member of St. Agnes Catholic Church of Edna. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He and the late Annie Lucille Garvel Nickel were married Feb. 26, 1968, in Edna. She preceded him in death on Oct. 5, 1997.
Survivors include daughter, Doris Rodriguez, Elgin; sons, Randy Nickel and Bobby Nickel, both of Elgin; sister, Lorene Terry, Mabel Rogers and Minnie Yendrey, all of Edna, Mary Graham, Grand Prairie, and Annie May Howarth, Plano; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents; wife; sons, Mike and Charlie Nickel; sister, Ginger Keasler; and brother, Woodrow Nickel.
Pallbearers were Jamie Terry, Robbie Terry, David Terry, Jason Miller, B.J. Nickel and Luke Rodriquez.
KELLY CAESAR, JR.
Graveside services for Kelly Caesar, Jr. will be held at Scruggs United Methodist Church in Edna on Saturday, June 24 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Garry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Chase Cemetery in Morales under the direction of Tracy’s M.J. Santellana. Visitation is Friday, June 23 from 1-8 p.m.
Mr. Caesar died June 17, 2000 at the age of 62. He was born August 31, 1937 in Cordele, Tx. to the late Kelly and Rachel Bolden Caesar, Sr. He was a retired laborer at the Rice Belt Warehouse.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Laura Lucille Caesar; sons, John Wesley Caesar of Seatac, Wa.; Jermarka Walker of Midway, Tx.; and Sammy P. Barnes of Victoria; brother, O.B. Holmes of Edna; sister, Robin Adams of Victoria; and five grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Jackie Hardaway and Ethel Holmes.
