Briggs

Steven Forest Briggs, 44, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Elmendorf. He was the pastor of the Baptist Church in Tilden. Mr. Briggs was born Feb. 20, 1959, in Montgomery, Ala.

Survivors include his parents, Mark and Leah Briggs of Elmendorf; his wife, Stacey Briggs of Tyler; two sons, Daniel Forest and Samuel Alan, both of Tyler; four brothers, Walter Craig Briggs of Stockdale, David Randolph Briggs of Elmendorf, Paul Anderson Briggs of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Richard Lawrence Briggs of Fort Belvoir, Va.

Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Sunday. Funeral services were at the Baptist Church in Tilden on Monday. Interment followed at Hilltop Cemetery in Tilden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Steve Briggs Medical Fund, McMullen Bank, 207 Elm St., Tilden,  Texas 78072, or Cancer Therapy and Research Center, 7979 Wurzbach Road, San Antonio,  Texas 78229. Arrangements were under the direction of Hurley Funeral Home, Pleasanton.

Perez

Jose M. Perez, 49, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at his home after a short illness. He was born July 9, 1954, in Three Rivers to Milton C. and Beatrice Perez.
Mr. Perez was preceded in death by his father, Milton C. Perez; two brothers, Gregorio M. Perez and Pfc. Adolfo M. Perez; and one infant son, Jose Perez Jr.

Survivors include his mother, Beatrice Perez; his loving companion of 24 years, Diana Fuentes; two daughters, Liza Yvett (Andrew) Martinez and Krystle Perez; a son, John Joe Perez; four grandchildren, Mariah, Joseph Perez, Matthew and Jaime III; seven brothers, Milton M. (Rosa) Perez Jr., Inez (Gloria) Perez of Austin, David (Sylvia) Perez, Carlos (Ruby) Perez, Manuel, Hector and Luis Perez; and five sisters, Mary Alice Ponce of Three Rivers, Christina Garza, Delia (Robert) Cristan, Guadalupe (Larry) Spaller and Gloria (Arnold) Perez of Corpus Christi.

Rosary was recited on Thursday, March 27, at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel in Corpus Christi.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Angelus Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.

Gantt
Oscar Gantt, 84, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in a San Antonio hospital following a short illness.

Mr. Gantt was born to Charles and Effie Gantt on Nov. 28, 1918, in Arkansas.
Survivors include a daughter, Patsy Prochazka of Three Rivers; three sons, Rocky Roberson of Seguin and Bryan Roberson and Jimmy Roberson, both of Victoria; 12 grandchildren, Vince Roberson, Tammy Roberson, Landis Roberson, Corey Roberson, Mike Ryan, Kitty Haas and Georgia Horelka, all of Victoria, Kim Foster, Holly Gonzalez and Carlene Walker of San Antonio, Clayton Roberson of Seguin and Peggy Peiser of Lockhart; and eight great-grandchildren, Abby Meeks, Tyra Meeks and Cody Ball of San Antonio, Justin Ball of Kingsville and Kristen Strazzazar, Larissa Roberson, Tyler Roberson and Lavonna Roberson, all of Victoria.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Roberson Funeral Home. The funeral will be today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. Burial will follow in the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Koonce
Claude Arnold Koonce, 76, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, in a Corpus Christi hospital following a short illness.
Mr. Koonce was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Fannie Mae Koonce; one son, Bobby Ray Koonce; and 15 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynett (Edward) Haag of Three Rivers; two sons, Billy Wayne (Shirley) Koonce of Orange and Floyd Dee (Chris) Koonce of Corpus Christi; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and his step-children: Veronica Roberts of Seguin, Victor Roberts, Vincent Roberts, Veronica Ganter and Vance Roberts, all of Three Rivers and Virgil Roberts of Whitsett.
Visitation was Tuesday at the Roberson Funeral Home. The funeral was held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at the same location. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Nobles
Walter Earl Nobles Jr., 72, of George West, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003. The funeral was held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in George West, with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.

Mr. Nobles was born Jan. 5, 1931, to Wilma Vern (Clayton) and Walter Earl Nobles Sr. in Houston. He married Mary Hughes on Aug. 12, 1949, in Corpus Christi. He worked for 45 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone as a telephone repeaterman. He was a member of First Church of Nazarene in Corpus Christi. He served as president of Communication Workers of America, Local 6137, for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Nobles of George West; two sons, John David (Debbie) Nobles of Woodstock, Ga. and Paul Clayton Nobles of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Rebecca Susan (Bob) George of Azuza,  Calif. and Elizabeth Ann (Mike) Wilson of Kentucky; five grandchildren, Guy Robert (Karen) Foster of Kentucky, Ronald Blake (Amy) Foster of Jamestown, Ky. and Jessica Elise Nobles, Rebecca Ruth Nobles and Rachel Elizabeth Nobles, all of Woodstock, Ga.; four foster grandchildren, James, Shawn, Tamaya and Maria George of Azuza,  Calif.; and four great-granchildren, Landyn and Jansen Foster of Jamestown, Ky. and Dillon and Derek George of Azuza,  Calif.

Chavarria
Retired MSGT Manuel Chavarria, 67, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003. He was born Jan. 24, 1936, in Dinero.

Mr. Chavarria served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force for 22 years. He loved music.

He was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Chavarria.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Chavarria; his mother, Ysidra Chavarria of Three Rivers; three daughters, Myrna Santiago of Woodbridge, Va., Sonia (Corando) Ponce and Denise (Rosel) Flores, all of San Antonio; three sons, Joseph (Brenda) Chavarria of Poteet, Ralph Chavarria of Alice and Jaime (Lois) Chavarria of Missouri; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Arturo Chavarria; five sisters, Henrietta Muñoz, Carmen Moreno, Lupita Lopez, Mary Torres and Delia Casarez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass was held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment with full military honors followed at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Porter Loring Mortuary, San Antonio.

Ysidra Chavarria
Ysidra Chavarria, 91, of Three Rivers died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in Live Oak Nursing Center following a long illness.

Mrs. Chavarria was born to Brijido and Guadalupe Rodriguez on May 15, 1912, in Campbellton. She was one of 15 children. She married Guadalupe Chavarria on March 19, 1935 in Alice.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, 14 brothers and sisters; one son, Manuel Chavarria; and one daughter, Mary Barrientes.

Survivors include one son, Arturo Chavarria of Three Rivers; five daughters, Enriquetta (Joe) Muñoz and Carmelita (Charles) Moreno of Three Rivers, Guadalupe (Alfredo) Lopez of Corpus Christi, Mary O. (Gilbert) Torres of Three Rivers; and Delia (John) Casarez of Red Oak; 32 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

Rosary was recited on Oct. 31 in the Roberson Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. Mass was celebrated on Nov. 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers. Burial followed in the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mrs. Chavarria’s granddaughters: Melissa Farias, Irma Lea Molina, Ada Flores, Janie Kohl, Myrna Santiago, Yolanda Cunningham, Krystal Casarez and Imelda Marty De Leon.

Hamilton
Julius Ben Hamilton, 65, died Thursday, March 27, 2003, in a San Antonio hospital after a long illness. He was born to Clarence  Taylor and Gladys (Alexander) Hamilton on July 15, 1937, in Three Rivers.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Sharon Irene (Gonzales) Hamilton; a son, Jason Hamilton of Three Rivers; three daughters, Juliet Hamilton Porche and Gisele (Steven) Alaniz, all of Three Rivers, and Teresa (Ivan) Green of El Paso; two brothers, John Wayne (Jimmie) Hamilton of  Louisiana and Kenneth George Hamilton of Midland; a sister, Bonnie Kay (Terry)  Jones of Dayton; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday at Roberson Funeral Chapel in Three Rivers. Rosary was recited on Sunday at the same location. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers. Interment was in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

Pavelka
Lillie Kaase (Schumaker) Pavelka, 96, of George West died Friday, March 28, 2003. She was born Aug. 31, 1906, in Taiton to Charlie August and Minnie (Schoenfield) Schumaker. She was a homemaker and a Lutheran.

Mrs. Pavelka was preceded in death by her first husband, Monroe Kaase; her second husband, Joe Pavelka; her parents; three sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Sunday at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West with the Rev. Wilburn C. Ahlrich officiating. Special music included “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Burial was at the George West Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were her nephews.

Schneider
Ray (Hill) Schneider, 98, of George West died Friday, March 28, 2003. She was born Dec. 22, 1904, in Groesbeck to Joseph Robertson and Nora (Livingston) Hill. She married Robert Edward Schneider Jr. in Houston on Sept. 29, 1932.
Mrs. Schneider was a homemaker and a member of the Church of The Good Shepherd. She was on the board of the George West Cemetery Association, Altar Guild Directors and a member of the Bishop Committee and the Unify to Beautify organization.
Survivors include a son, J.R. “Bob” (Gina) Schneider of George West; a daughter, Betty L. Smith of George West; two sisters, Elizabeth Phillips of George West and Dorothy Robinson of Galveston; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Schneider was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Edward Schneider Jr.; and a sister, Sue Metts.

The funeral was held Monday at the Church of The Good Shepherd in George West with Ben Wright officiating. Violinist was Eugene Dowdy. Burial followed in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rob Schneider, Jeffrey Smith, Dwayne McWilliams, John Bednorz, Travis Martin and C.J. Sehlke. Honorary pallbearers were Harry L. Linney, Holman Massey, Brooks Schley and Leonard Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Church of The Good Shepherd Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 1582, George West,  Texas 78022.

Treviño
Evaristo Eloy Treviño, 24, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in San Antonio. He was born Feb. 8, 1979, in San Benito to Rafael S. and JoAnn (Garcia) Treviño. He was a sub-contractor and was also employed by Joshua Pools & Contracting.

Mr. Treviño was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Olga S. and Roman Treviño.

Survivors include his mother, JoAnn Rabideau of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; his father, Rafael Treviño of Santa Rosa; a son, Anthony Fussel of San Antonio; maternal grandparents, Alex and Sylvia Garcia of Three Rivers; two sisters, Mandie Ybañez and Sylvia Treviño, both of Baytown; a brother, Ralph Treviño of Baytown; four nieces; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Galloway & Sons Chapel in Three Rivers. Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:30 at the chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Three Rivers with Father Piotr Gajda officiating. Burial will follow at the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jason Muñiz, Waylon Rhodes, Lionel Treviño, Albert Treviño, Mike Ruiz and David Garcia.
Galloway & Sons, Three Rivers

Riggs -- Feb. 21, 2003
Robert Stanley Riggs, 75, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at his residence in Three Rivers. Mr. Riggs was born Dec. 23, 1927, in Selma, Iowa. He was a retired insurance company underwriter, a retired journalist and an avid piano player.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene Nible Riggs, of Three Rivers.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Three Rivers.

Cowden

Walter P. “Lucky” Cowden Jr., 39, died Friday, March 14, 2003 in Irving.
Mr. Cowden was born Nov. 22, 1963 in Three Rivers. He married Rea Hopson on April 21, 2000 and has lived in Irving the past nine years. He was a diesel mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Rea; his children, Jessika, Josh and Jeremy, all of Kiowa, Okla. and Cory, Tiffany and Justin, all of Irving; his mother, Liz Pittmon of Lake Dallas; stepfather, T.J. Pittmon of Pasadena; father, Walter P. Cowden Sr. of Whitney; a brother, Guy Earl Cowden of Houston; a sister, Rose Wigham of Blanket; mother-in-law, Bertha Robison of Grapevine; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Joe Powell of Aubrey, Debbie Rose and Keith Brewer of Grapevine, Christy and Jason Samples and Dewayne and Sherry Hopson, all of Hurst; one aunt, Joan Pullin of Three Rivers; and three uncles, Earn and Kathy Clifton of Three Rivers, Bill and Melissa Clifton of Corpus Christi and Robert and Towanda Clifton of Orange Grove.

Mr. Cowden was preceded in death by his grandmother, Judy Clifton of Three Rivers.

A memorial service was held at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving on Sunday, March 16. The moderator was Carolyn Dennis.
Arrangements were under the direction of Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home, Irving.

House

Roberta S. House, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, in a Victoria hospital following a short illness. She had been residing in Cuero since 1994 with her daughter and son-in-law.

Mrs. House was born Aug. 26, 1918, to the late John Hugh and Alice (Quinn) Scott in Travis. She married Taze T. House of Three Rivers in April 1939. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Three Rivers and was the former owner of House Hardware.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include a son, Bobby (Pat) House of Three Rivers; a daughter, Kathy (Henry) Luddeke of Cuero; three grandsons, Robert Todd House of Burleson and Dustin and Rowdy House, both of San Marcos; two granddaughters, Lacey Luddeke and Lindsay Luddeke of The Woodlands; one great-grandson; three great-granddaughters; one sister, Mildred Brawn of Baytown; and one brother, Jake Scott of Brownwood.

Visitation was held Friday at the Roberson Funeral Home. A graveside service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Three Rivers Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church, Three Rivers.
