Lily “Lil” May, 85, of Woodville, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004 at Dickerson Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Woodville with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery near Jasper. Officiating was Father Steve Secaur.
Lil was born Dec. 9, 1919 to Samuel Thomas and Lily Bryant Stimpson in Petersborough, England. She was longtime resident of Tyler County and was a retired store owner and operator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Percy Carl May in 1996. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David May of Trinity, formerly of Huntsville and Paul and Gina May of Rocky Springs; and sister, Hazal Burnham of Plymouth, England.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Raymond E. Holmes
December 28, 2004
Raymond E. Holmes, 75, of Onalaska passed away Dec. 15, 2004 in Houston.
Born Oct. 18, 1929 in Dasietta to Frank James and Annie Wells Holmes. He lived in Onalaska for many years. He was a retired truck driver and an Air Force veteran.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his loving family, sons, Billy Holmes and wife, Karen of Alvin, Earl Holmes and wife, Helen of Orange, Doug Holmes of Alvin, Ronnie Holmes of Allen and Shannon Holmes and wife, Tammy of Allen; step children, Wayne Hilton of Hughes Springs and Karen Monceaux of Deweyville; brother, A. J. Holmes and wife, Frances of Winnie; sister, Mildred Hall Arnold of Channelview; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 18, at 12:30 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Elbert Reavis officiating. Burial followed at Fellowship Cemetery near Warren. Visitation was held Friday evening at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers were Gary Crew, David Holmes, James Holmes, Juan Carlos Ortega, Eddie Jacobs and Chris Ford.
Services were entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

Monte Ray Shird
December 28, 2004
Monte Ray Shird, 53, of Woodville was welcomed into the arms of the Lord on Dec. 14, 2004.
Born June 29, 1951 in Woodville to Dee and Coraleen Arrant Shird, he lived in Tyler County all of his life. He worked as a logger.
Mr. Shird was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Shird.
Mr. Shird is survived by his loving family, wife of 34 years, Shirley Shird; sons, Zach Shird, Corey Shird and wife, Sheena, and Kirby Shird and wife, Michelle; daughters, Lori Shird and fiance, Karl Brisco and Kari Shird; brothers, Lester Shird and James Shird; sister, Shirley Powell and husband, Ronald; three grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at the Egypt Cemetery near Colmesneil with Brother Milton Powers officiating.
Services were entrusted to Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

Shirley Odean Stephenson
December 28, 2004
Shirley Odean Stephenson, 68, of Warren passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at her residence in Warren.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20 at Pat A. Riley Funeral Home in Nederland. Burial took place at Broussard’s Cemetery in Fannett. A gathering of friends and family were held from 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Born on January 20, 1936 to Edward Craigen and Ida Belle Adams Craigen. Mrs. Stephenson had lived in Warren since 1976 and was a former resident of Nederland for eight years. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Warren.
Survivors included her husband, Dan Stephenson of Warren; sons, Frank Mayer and wife Nancy and Terry Mayer and his wife Brenda all of Warren; daughter, Sharon Chance and husband George of Warren; brothers, Charles Craigen of Freeport and Edlee Craigen of Fannett; sisters, Evelyn Maddox and Ima Jean Porter both of Fannett; Edlina Betze of San Augustine; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine Warren.
Local arrangements handled by Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.

Robert Oscar (Bob) Copeland
December 28, 2004
Mr. Robert Oscar (Bob) Copeland, 74, of passed away quietly from this world Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004 at his Woodville residence.
A long time Houstonian Bob was born in Peebles, Ohio and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy and of the U. S. Air Force. He was an avid fisherman and sports fan, and loved the company of good friends and dancing with his beautiful wife Lorraine.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Copeland; daughters, Kim Plummer, LInda Patterson; step-daughters, Dianne Glennie, Linda Trammell, Evelyn Everett, Sandra Mungel, Renee’ Collins; sister, Betty Robertson; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held in the Forest Park East Funeral Home from 6 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held in the Forest Park East Chapel at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22.

Herman L. Smiers
December 13, 2004
Herman L Smiers, 87, of Woodville passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 4th at 2:00 p.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Woodville. Officiating was Reverend Steve Hays. The presentation of the flag was presented by VFW members of Post #2033. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Cooper, Kevin Cooper, Stephen Eubanks, Bryan Eubanks, Ross Griffith, Durwood Ling and Jeremy Lloyd. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Payne, Joseph Cannatella, Carl Muller, Bob Herbst and Ray LaGrappe.
Visitation was held on Friday, December 3rd, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
H.L. was born February 21, 1917 to Herman Leslie & Alice Elizabeth Thomason Smiers in Dallas,  Texas. He was a former resident of Deer Park a longtime resident of Woodville. He was a retired physicist from Rohm & Haas and became a realtor in the late 1970‚s. He was a graduate of Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, a licensed lay minister in the Baptist Church, an avid Round Dancer, and was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Lindsey Smiers & James Milton Smiers and his sister, Alice Elizabeth Smith. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Viola Smiers of Woodville; son & daughter-in-law, W.H. „Bill‰ & Kathy Smiers of Anna; daughter & son-in-law , Pat & Tom Cooper of Jackson, Mississippi; step son & step daughter-in-law, William A. „Bill‰ & Jessica Lloyd of Hemphill; step daughters & step son-in-law, Anne & Ross Griffith of Nederland and Dee Eubanks of Moody; 4 grandchildren & 4 great grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren & 18 step great grandchildren; 6 nephews and 8 nieces.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas,  Texas 75231 or the American Diabetes Association, 2400 Augusta Dr., Suite 175, Houston,  Texas 77057.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Emit Earl ‘Slim’ Nolen

Emit Earl ‘Slim’ Nolen, 82, of Woodville, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, December 5th at 2:30 p.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Officiating was Dr. Dwayne Freese. Serving as pallbearers were his grandchildren, Charles McGraw, Thomas McGraw, Wesley Fuller, Leslie Thomason, Jeffrey Philen and Clifton Poe.
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 4th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Emit was born February 1, 1922 to Emmit Fletcher and Ola Gardner Nolen in Hicksbaugh (Tyler County),  Texas. He was a lifelong Tyler County resident and was retired from the former Temple Eastex as a maintainer operator. He served in the US Navy on the USS Alabama and The Battleship  Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Deloras Nolen of Woodville; daughters & sons in law, Shirley & Adam Thomason of Lufkin, Kathy & Jerry Carruth of Woodville and Anita & Jesse Urias of Lufkin; sisters, Miladeen Baisdon, Ola Vee Proellochs and Alyce Fay Poe all of Beaumont; seven grandchildren, Charles McGraw, Thomas McGraw, Wesley Fuller, Leslie Thomason, Jeffrey Philen, Heather  Jones and Ashley Tschoerner; two step grandchildren, Jesse Urias and Brandon Urias; and three great grandchildren, Kaili Madisyn Philen, Tomothy Earl McGraw and Casey Shawn McGraw.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Frankie Pentecost Keeton

Frankie Pentecost Keeton, 68, of Woodville, passed away Friday, December 3, 2004 at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville.
Frankie was born August 8, 1936 to Frank & Essie McBryde Pentecost in Doucette,  Texas. She had lived in Woodville for the past twelve years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Cordrell Moore Scott and husband, Paul Douglas Keeton. She is survived by her sons & daughters-in-law, Joseph M. & Marie Durand of Dallas and Homer & Madalin Durand of Kountze; sisters & brothers-in-law, LaHoma & Bill Holley of Livingston and Darline & Van Conger of Alto; four grandchildren, four step grandchildren and a step great granddaughter.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Johnie Myles Harvey
December 13, 2004
Johnie Myles Harvey, 75, of Dam-B, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at his residence.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 8th at 1:00 p.m. graveside service at Dickerson Cemetery near San Augustine. Officiating will be Brother Hollis Lilley and Brother Tommy Turner. Serviing as pallbearers are Huey Bailey, Johnny Horton, Robert Buck, Jim Gunter, Charles Lilley and Tommy Turner.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 7th from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Johnie was born May 9, 1929 to Edgar & Maudie Brown Harvey in San Augustine,  Texas. He was a resident of Dam-B for the past 36 years and retired construction worker from Local 450. He was a WWII U.S. Marine veteran and a member of South Spurger Christian Center.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patsy Harvey of Dam-B; son Johnie Harvey, Jr. of Jasper; daughtes Becky Davis of Beaumont and Lornie True of LaGrange; and numerous grandchildren.
Service are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Terrance Ray Brown, Jr.
December 13, 2004
Terrance Ray Brown, 29, of Colmesneil, passed away Monday, December 6, 2004 at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, December 8th at 10:00 am in the Carter Cemetery in Colmesneil under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville. Officiating will be Brother Ben Gibbs.
Terrance was born May 2, 1975 to Terrance Ray, Sr. & Cheryl Adaway Brown in Kirbyville,  Texas. He was a lifelong resident of Tyler County and an operator for  Louisiana Pacific in Jasper.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Brown; parents Ray & Cheryl Brown; sons Terry Ray Brown and Tyler Gene Brown all of Colmesneil; uncles Jerry Adaway, Elmer Glen Adaway, Kenneth Adaway, Bennie Brown, Royce Brown, Paul Brown, Ricky Brown, Steve Brown and Michael Brown; aunts Diane Adaway, Bonnie Brown and Maria Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
