Thorvald “Tom” Thorsen

Services for Thorvald “Tom” Thorsen, 86, of Palestine, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jeff Cover officiating. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mr. Thorsen died Thursday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 27, 1915, in Menomonie, Wis. to Thorvald and Roletta Dunn Thorsen.
Mr. Thorsen was reared in Beloit, Wis. He had lived in Palestine since 1977. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.
He was a licensed professional engineer. He had worked for Boeing Aircraft and later worked for General Dynamics in Arlington, where he retired after 22 years. He also did professional architectural work for Tim Ellison and Fred Heaton in Palestine for many years.
Mr. Thorsen was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother; seven sisters; and one granddaughter, Nicole Thorsen.
Mr. Thorsen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruthe Thorsen of Palestine; sons, Tom Thorsen of Palestine and Terry Thorsen of Mansfield; daughter, RutheAnn Richardson of Palestine; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Frank Fulgham, Bob Burroughs, Norbert Beberstein, Danny Rodriguez, Shawn Edwards and Todd Thorsen.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Palestine Public Library, 1101 N. Cedar, Palestine,  Texas, 75801; or to the Stockpot of First Presbyterian Church, 410 Avenue A, Palestine,  Texas, 75801.

Dock Martin

Services for Dock Martin, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Christian Church of Grapeland. Interment will follow at Davis Cemetery under the direction of Deer Park Funeral Directors.
Mr. Martin died Thursday.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ethel Martin of LaPorte; children, Larry Steven Martin of Deer Park, Dlaine E. Manuel of  Louisiana and Roger Dan Martin of LaPorte; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster, Grapeland.

Laura B. Williams

Funeral arrangements for Laura B. Williams, 91, of Houston, and formerly of Palestine, are pending at McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Williams died this morning at Doctor’s Hospital in Houston.

Charity Eloise Hilton

Services for Charity Eloise Hilton, 62, of LaRue, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Foster & Brown Funeral Home in Athens with the Revs. Melvin Zachary and James Johnston officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Cemetery in LaRue.
Mrs. Hilton died Tuesday in Poynor due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born Oct. 4, 1939, in Anderson County to Johnie and Rossie Crawford.
Mrs. Hilton was a lifelong resident of LaRue and a member of Midway Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Hilton; son, Darren; her mother and a sister.
Mrs. Hilton is survived by her father; daughters, Dee Davis of Poynor and Daphne Johannes of LaRue; sons, Jonray Hilton, Tony Hilton, Tommy Hilton and Jason Hilton, all of LaRue; sister, JaQuin Sims of Montalba; brothers, John L. Crawford of LaRue, Royce Crawford of Galveston, Randy Crawford of Bullard and Delbert Crawford of LaRue; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two host children.
Pallbearers will be Tony “Bubba” Hilton, Bobby Siritanapivat, Damon Davis, Cody Davis, Daniel Sims and Ronny Crawford.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Robert “Bob” Waller

Services for James Robert “Bob” Waller, 59, of Frankston, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Renfro Memorial Chapel at Boren-Conner Funeral Home of Jacksonville with the Rev. D.G. Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Meador Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Mr. Waller died Wednesday morning at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born June 27, 1942, in Marshfield, Mo.
Mr. Waller lived his past eight years in this area and previously lived in Wichita, Kan. He was a member of the Assembly of God.
Mr. Waller was a painting contractor.
He is survived by his wife, Gaye Ann Waller of Frankston; son, Todd Waller of Frankston; daughters, Lisa Frye of Kingman, Ariz., Lori Dillon of Roundrock and Tiffany Waller of Palestine; brothers, Don Waller of Wichita and David Waller of Palestine; sister, Linda Hall of Wichita; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Don Waller, Tom Hall, David Waller, Randy Dillon, Tim Arnold and Chad Pearce.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Caveness, David Kinsey, Mark Thompson, Walter Waller, Francis Waller, Bill Waller and Howard Warnke.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of East  Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler,  Texas, 75701.

Edna A. Hudson

Services for Edna A. Hudson, 93, of Palestine, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Herrington/Land of Memory Chapel with the Revs. Lynn Stroud and Dean Easterling officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart.
Mrs. Hudson died Tuesday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 5, 1909, to Mr. and Mrs. Will Smith in the Cedar Creek community of Anderson County.
Mrs. Hudson had lived in Anderson County all of her life. She was reared as a foster daughter to Will and Jewel Lipscomb. She was a member of Walston Springs Baptist Church where she was active in the Ladies Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Printes H. Hudson; and daughter, Ruby Redden Hudson.
Mrs. Hudson is survived by sons, Printes C. Hudson of Palestine and Larry Hudson of Vancouver, Wash.; daughter, Inez Richardson of Palestine; sister, Willie Vincent of Elkhart; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Hudson, Brent Dyess, Cole Hudson, Dale Vincent and Arthur Blackstock.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Pennington and Ray Stephenson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Baptist Home for Children, P.O. Box 309, Waxahachie,  Texas, 75165.

Iva Pearl Bell

Services for Iva Pearl Bell, 70, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Berean Baptist Church, 301 N. Town E. Blvd. in Dallas, with the Rev. David Mills officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Bell Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Suggs Funeral Home of Dallas.
Mrs. Bell died Tuesday after a battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Dallas.
Mrs. Bell was a resident of Mesquite since 1955. She attended Elkhart and Dallas Crozier Tech High Schools. She was a member of Berean Baptist Church of Mesquite.
She was preceded in death by her father, Horace Newman Bell.
Mrs. Bell is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bill Vic Melton of Mesquite; mother, Mary Pearl Jolly of Dallas; brother, Rex Bell of Dallas; sister, Donna Matthews of Rockwall; son, David Melton of Garland and Michael Melton of Mesquite; daughter, Vicki McCrummen of Mesquite; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Matthews, Jason Wynn, Devin Gabbard, Jerry McCrummen, Richard Smith, Harold Smith, Richard Bell and Ronald Bell.
Honorary pallbearer will be Edgar Dickens.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Castle Peak Hospice, 8790 N. Central Expressway, Suite 750, Dallas,  Texas, 75231.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Carla Donnell

Funeral arrangements for Carla Donnell are pending at Davis Funeral Home.
Ms. Donnell died Monday at a Dallas hospital.

Mary Louis Callaway Quick

Funeral arrangements for Mary Louis Callaway Quick, 75, of Palestine, are pending at Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Quick died Tuesday in Plano.

Lue Parrish

Services for Lue Cain Parrish, 65, of Chesapeake, Va., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Tyler with the Rev. Rufus Pollard officiating. Burial will be in Union Hope Cemetery in Elkhart under the direction of Brooks, Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors of Tyler.
Mrs. Parrish died Monday in Tyler.
She was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Grapeland.
Mrs. Parrish attended Elkhart public schools and had lived in Smith County for two years.
She was a nurse’s aide, and a member of Union United Church of Christ where she was a member of the mission society, mission choir, senior choir and the deaconess ministry.
Mrs. Parrish is survived by son, Eddie Carl Parrish of Henderson; daughter, Sandra P. Hunt of Mesquite; brothers, H.D. Cain and Leroy Cain, both of Tyler; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Cain, Kevin Cain, Henry Cain, James Cain, Corey Cain, Wilma Cain, Dexter  Jones and Darren Choice.
Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Lewis, George V. Dial, Vernon Ray Saddler, Gary D. Wickware, George Crowe and grandsons.
The family will receive condolence calls from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

O.F. Ray

Service for O.F. Ray, 70, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brushy Creek Arbor with the Rev. C.A. Reese officiating.
Mr. Ray died Monday at the VA Hospital in Temple.
He was born Dec. 13, 1931 in Palestine to Boyd C. and Minnie Lee Kersh Ray.
Mr. Ray was a self employed sheetrock contractor. He was a Baptist and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Connie R. Ray of the Brushy Creek community; sisters, Ramona Hickman of the Concord community and Barbara Windsor of Diboll; brothers Bobby S. Ray and Dan E. Ray, both of the Concord community, Billy W. Ray of Pert and Don E. Ray of Elkhart.

Ouida Pearl McCracken Stringer

Services for Ouida Pearl McCracken Stringer, 92, of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Cemetery with the Rev. Alan Van Hooser officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.
Mrs. Stringer died Thursday morning at Cartmell Home for the Aged.
She was born Dec. 2, 1909 in Frio County to William Cody and Laura Franks McCracken.
Mrs. Stringer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dallas. She was a seamstress for the Jay Shop and worked as a secretary at the Anderson County Courthouse. She was a defense plant worker in World War II and altered uniforms for servicemen.
Mrs. Stringer was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 1 in Dallas, where she served as a past worthy matron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alf D. Stringer; brothers Jack McCracken, Joe F. McCracken and W. Gee McCracken; sisters Happie McCracken and Billie J. Wilmarth.
Mrs. Stringer is survived by a sister, Lois Spicer of Palestine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be William Whitley, Pat McCracken, J.B. McCracken, John Harvey Easley, Bobby Wilmarth, Rae Wilmarth and Jim Reeves.
Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brenda Diane Jones-Carter

Services for Brenda Diane Jones-Carter, 47, of Houston, and formerly of Neches, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Palestine Civic Center with the Rev. R.C. Emanuel officiating. Burial will follow at Dabbs Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones-Carter died Thursday at East  Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
She was born Feb. 17, 1955, in Neches to Adolphus and Ruth Williams Jones.
Mrs. Jones-Carter attended Neches High School, East  Texas Baptist University and  Texas Southern University. She was a member of Earlie Chapel A.M.E. Church and later united with Lilly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, where she served on Usher Board No. 2, was a member of Church School Women’s No. 4, General Mission Society, Hospitality Committee and was a Vacation Bible School teacher.
She was also a member of the National Red Cross, the  Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, the Heroines of Jericho Silver Spray Lodge No. 44, and was a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
Mrs. Jones-Carter was employed at Sterling Bank as a bank officer.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Johnnie B. Carte; brother, Willie E.  Jones of Palestine; sisters, Janice M.  Jones and Patricia A. Jones, both of Houston; and stepdaughter La’Johna Carter.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any and all donations be made to the General Mission Society of Lilly Grove Baptist Church, 7134 Tierwester Street, Houston,  Texas 77021.
