Audna D. Bateman
ABINGDON -- Audna D. Bateman, 87, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a retired employee of Town & Country Hardware, a farmer at Millstream Farms and a coal miner with Blue Diamond Coal Company. Mr. Bateman was a member of State Street Church of Christ, Bristol Virginia.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma J. Bateman; five sons, Wallace E. Bateman, Chesapeake, Va., Roy B. Bateman Sr., Blairsville, Ga., Richard M. Bateman, Blountville, Howard G. Bateman, Abingdon, and A. Lee Bateman, Guam; four daughters, Evelyn L. Campbell and Julia B. Robinson, both of Abingdon, Darlene B. Hayter, Meadowview, and Vickie W. Young of the home; two brothers, S. Wallace Bateman, Kingsport, and Joe M. Bateman, Riverview, Fla.; three sisters, Zephie Hamm, Mansfield, Ohio, Connie Bush, Kansas, and Betty Hicks, War, W.Va.; 21 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Leonard Booher
Leonard Booher, 64, of 1887 Boozy Creek Road, Bristol, Va., died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in Bristol Nursing Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Scott County, a member of Gardners Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and a farmer.
Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Woodruff, Ohio, and Abie McMurray, Hiltons, Va.; two brothers, Laney Booher, Fall Branch, Tenn., and Alfred Booher, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary E. Bowman
ROANOKE -- Mary Elizabeth Bowman, 80, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, in a Salem, Va., hospital.
She was a retired licensed practical nurse with Community Hospital and a former employee with Roanoke Memorial Hospitals.
She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne C. Bowman; two daughters, Geri B. Furr and Mrs. Jeryl (Joy B.) Stinson, both of Salem; a son, Michael W. Bowman, Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers, Fletcher
Johnson and Robert Johnson, both of Saltville, and Herbert Johnson, Point Pleasant, W.Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Weaver, Marion, and Helen Johnson, Saltville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruble S. Elkins
POUND -- Ruble Slemp Elkins, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in Norton Community Hospital, Norton.
She was the widow of Ralph Elkins.
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Hurley (Janice) Collins, Mrs. Arnold (Sue) Cantrell and Mrs. Jerry (Helen) Hobbs, all of Pound, Mrs. Ben (Linda) Gregory, and Mrs. T.J. (Joyce) Powers, Cardington, Ohio; three sons, Jimmy Ray Elkins, East Stone Gap, Donnie Elkins, Pound, and Freddie Elkins, Wise; a sister, Mary "Doll" Holyfield, Big Stone Gap; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

James H. Greever Sr.
CHATTANOOGA -- James Hutton Greever Sr., 83, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Chilhowie and was a retired minister with the Holston Conference United Methodist Church.
He attended VPI in 1932, and then returned home to manage the family farm.
He was a pioneer in soil conservation in Smyth County and won Outstanding Farmers Award for soil conservation. He taught agriculture for veterans for 12 years at Chilhowie High School.
He returned to school in 1958 to study for the ministry and attended Marion Junior College, Emory and Henry College, and the Conference Course of Study at Duke Theological Seminary and Emory University.
He was ordained as an Elder in 1965 and served 20 years as minister of the Holston Conference United Methodist Church, serving churches in Glade Spring, Saltville, and Broadford, Va., and in Englewood, Dayton, Piney Flats and Jefferson City, Tenn.
He retired in 1979 and moved to Chattanooga, where he was an active member of White Oak United Methodist Church, the Hilander Sunday school class and also served as Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Granert Greever; two daughters, Shelia Barber, Salem, Va., and Kay Smith, Lewisburg, W.Va.,; two sons, James Hutton Greever Jr., Chattanooga, and Philip Rowland Greever, Denver, Colo; and six grandchildren.

WYTHEVILLE -- Mamie Sawyer Henderson, 88, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in Birdmont Health Care Center.
She was a native of Ashe County, N.C., a longtime resident of Konnarock, Va., and the widow of Oscar Henderson.
Survivors include five daughters, Ann Skillman, Joppa, Md., Virginia Ruth Fedor, Wytheville, Mrs. Elmer (Alice) Shepherd, Honeybrook, Pa., Sharon Klapp, Abingdon, and Mrs. Allen (Karen) Davenport, Bristol Tennessee; seven sons, Oscar Henderson, Pottstown, Pa., Robert Henderson, Marion, John Henderson and William Henderson, both of Manassas, Jerry Henderson, Roger Henderson and Danny Henderson, all of Wytheville; a sister, Inis Paris, Chilhowie; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Lee Kendrick, 80, of Bristol Virginia, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol, a retired employee of Holiday Inn, a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynda Haynes, Winston-Salem, N.C., and Lillie Roberts, Bristol Virginia; three sons, Billy Kendrick and David Kendrick, both of Bristol Tennessee, and Johnny Kendrick, Winston-Salem, N.C.; a sister, Mary Ellen Brock, West Alexandria, Ohio; ten grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

LEBANON -- Ethel Janie Kilbourne, 79, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon.
She was a native of Russell County, the widow of Ted Kilbourne and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five daughters, Gail Reedy, St. Paul, Shirley McCurdy, Castlewood, Christine Mays and Teddie Kiser, both of Lebanon, and Jennifer Townsend, Abingdon; a son, Lester Kilbourne, Lebanon; two sisters, Magalene Sexton, High Point, N.C., and Sylvia Chafin, Castlewood; five brothers, L.C. Bryant and Hansel Bryant, both of Castlewood, Jessee Bryant, Bell, Ky., Charlie Bryant, High Point, N.C., and Willard Bryant, Durham, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Reba V. Lewis
Reba Virginia Lewis, 94, of 407 Poplar St., Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and the widow of Edward Stuart Lewis. She was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and a member of DAR, UDC and St. Elizabeth Guild.
Survivors include two daughters, Madge Elizabeth Lewis of the home, and Sallie Lewis Hurt, Bristol Tennessee; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Hurt Gartner, Charles Stuart Hurt, Sallie Hurt Phillips and Michael Gartner; and a great-granddaughter.

ABINGDON -- John Giles Scyphers, 93, formerly of Holston, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in a Church Hill, Tenn., health care center.
He was a member of Greendale Chapel and retired from the Norfolk & Western Railroad, Bluefield, W.Va., with 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lilly Scyphers.
Survivors include a son, John R. Scyphers, Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Gay) Patrick, Kingsport, and Mrs. Lowell (Betty) Hobbs, Birmingham, Ala.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
