SPRINGVILLE, Va. -- Virginia Elizabeth Shrader, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in a Bluefield hospital.
She was a native of Tazewell County, a member of the Springville Christian Church and the widow of Clarence Hayden Shrader.
Survivors include a son, Larry Shrader of the home; a daughter, Mrs. George (Ada) Daugherty, Marion; a brother, Bernard Carter, Bluefield, Va.; a sister, Dora Mancari, Charleston, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Roberta F. Spears
ABINGDON -- Mrs. Roberta F. Spears, 71, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in Valley Health Care Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a member of the Greendale Chapel and the widow of John Spears.
Survivors include seven sons, Johnny Spears, Fort Polk, La., Kenneth Cook, Glade Spring, Fred Keller, Abingdon, Walter Keller and Louis Keller, both of Bristol Virginia, Bill Keller, Mendota, and Roy Keller, Springfield, Mass.; six daughters, Faye Woods, Staunton, Va., Ada Cox, Bristol Virginia, Ann Howdyshell, Verona, Va., Ruth Vickers, Bristol Tennessee, Rachel Keller, Glade Spring, and Becky Goodman, Chilhowie; a sister, Helen Osborne, Chilhowie; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Russell H. Steffey
WYTHEVILLE -- Russell H. Steffey, 90, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Birdmont Nursing Home.
She was a native of Russell County, a graduate of Lebanon High School and Bristol Nursing School and was a retired registered nurse.
She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and was the widow of her first husband, Kent Neal Ager, and her second husband, Floyd Erastus Steffey.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Ester S. Taylor
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Ester S. Taylor, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, in Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
She was a native of Bristol, had made her home in Franklin for several years and was the widow of B. Frank Taylor Jr.
She was a retired bookkeeper employed with Moore-Earhart early in her career, and later was employed with and retired from Kemble-Cochran Company.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Taylor Howell, Franklin; two sons, Ben Taylor, Minneapolis, and Chris Taylor, Goodlettsville, Tenn.; two sisters, Dottie Haze, Bristol Tennessee, and Ruth Davidson, Adelphi, Md.; a brother, R.E.
Smith Jr., Bristol Virginia; seven grandchildren; two nieces; and a nephew.

Edward R. VanDyke
ABINGDON -- Edward Ralph VanDyke, 80, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Southwest Virginia, grew up in Russell County and lived most of his adult life in Tazewell before retiring to Abingdon.
He received his bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1939, and held an honorary doctorate from Bluefield College.
He was an industrial sales engineer with the General Electric Company for 35 years. He maintained his professional engineers license in both Virginia and West Virginia, and a membership in both states' Society of Professional Engineers.
He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church, a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Bluefield College from 1980-87, where he was awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for meritorious service to the college. He was involved in many community activities and institutions including the Virginia Baptist Children's Home, in Salem.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Thomas D. (Phyllis) Thompson, Nashville, and Mrs. Jerome A. (Dee) Zivan, Blue Water Bay, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth "Sis" VanDyke, Greensboro, N.C., and Virginia Mae Kinney, Bradenton, Fla.; three brothers, William H. VanDyke and Claude H. VanDyke, both of Tazewell, and Dr. R.O. VanDyke Jr., Orlando, Fla; and five grandchildren.

MARION -- William Jackson "Jack" Waller, 66, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Waller; a son, Gregory Jackson Waller of the home; two stepsons, Billy Delp, Marion, and Joe Delp, Bristol Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Barbara Shepherd, Troutdale, Va.; five sisters, Ailene Jackson, Pulaski, Susie Dunford, Rural Retreat, Dorothy Gravely and Paige Alderman, both of Wytheville, and Thelma Davis, Ivanhoe; four granddaughters; three grandsons; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, a member of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Woodrow Webb.
Survivors include four sons, John Henry Webb and Raymond Webb, both of Clintwood, Josh Webb, Danville, and Charlie Webb, Wise; six daughters, Dicy Stanley, Della Moore, Rita Hall, Georgia Mullins and Madeline Anderson, all of Clintwood, and Opal Kelly, Castlewood; a sister, Carrie Webb, Clintwood; two brothers, Marvin Hopson, Danville, and Quentin Hopson, Bristol; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a native of Russell County, a resident of Sullivan County since 1918, of the Pentecostal faith, and the widow of Raymond R. Barger.
Survivors include a son, Howard Barger, Bristol Virginia; a daughter, Betty Conley, Kingsport; a sister, Rosa Artrip, Lebanon; two brothers, Rufus Franklin, Kingsport, and Woodrow Franklin, Knoxville; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a lifelong resident of Maryland.

She was a native of Bristol Virginia, had lived most of her life in Bristol Tennessee until moving to Meadowview. She was a homemaker, was of the Baptist faith and the widow of Clay H. Callahan.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose Vanover, Dandridge, Tenn., and Mary Sue Callahan, Bristol Tennessee; two sons, Marvin Callahan and Ralph Callahan, both of Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Jewel Hawkins, Bristol Tennessee; two brothers, Jack Eades, Bristol Tennessee, and George Eades, Newport News, Va.; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the widow of Harman Deel and was of the Baptist faith.
