MOUNTAIN CITY -- Vadie Ethel Nelson Mills, 86, of 2493 Cold Springs Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at her home.
She was a native of
Johnson County and was the widow of Charles Harlow Mills.
Survivors include two daughters, June Mills and Jone Fenner, both of Mountain City; three sisters, Reba Wills, Chelsie
Jones and Danford Smith, all of Mountain City; two brothers, John King Nelson Jr., and Sam Nelson, both of Mountain City; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Von H. Mitchell
URBANA, Ohio -- Von H. Mitchell, 67, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999.
He was a native of Washington County but had lived most of his life in Ohio.
Survivors include a sister, Virgie Lowe, Bristol Tennessee; two brothers, Clarence Mitchell, Raywick, Ky., and Frank Mitchell, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
The body was donated to Wrights University for scientific research.
Robert F. Nichols
BLUFF CITY -- Robert F. "Bob" Nichols, 75, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1999, in James H. Quillen VA Medical Center, Mountain Home.
He was a native of Washington County, Tenn., and was a member of Fleet Reserve Association No. 323 and VFW Post 9629, Bluff City.
He retired as senior chief engineer in the U.S. Navy after 23 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl A. Nichols; a daughter, Dr. Constance G. Nichols, Paxton, Mass., a son, R. Fred Nichols Jr., Bluff City; three sisters, Lucille Carrier, Ruth
Smith and Lena Dotson, all of Bluff City; and two granddaughters.

Nina V. Taylor
TANNERSVILLE, Va. -- Mrs. Nina V. Taylor, 51, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999 in Tazewell Community Hospital, Tazewell.
Survivors include her husband, W.C. "Bill" Taylor; a son, Richard S. "Sammy" Taylor, of the home; a daughter, Linda Sue Taylor, of the home; three brothers, Arthur George Taylor and J.C. Taylor, both of Tannersville, and Joe Ed Taylor, Saltville; two sisters, Naomi Collins, Marion, and Mary Evelyn Taylor, Tannersville; and several nieces and nephews.

NORTON -- Billie Jean Wright, 58, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, in St. John's Hospital, Detroit, Mich.
She was a former resident of the Norton area before making her home in Warren, Mich.
Survivors include her husband, Abel Wright, Warren; a son, Ewing Wright, Centerline, Mich; a daughter, Reina Wright, Warren; her father, Ewing "Toots" Mullins, Norton; four sisters, Sue Minor, Wise, Jackie Cooke, Norton, Peggy Wampler and Margaret Estep, both of Big Stone Gap; three brothers, Ronald Mullins, Spartanburg, S.C., Mark Mullins and Tommy Mullins, both of Norton.

BIG STONE GAP -- Anna H. Barker died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999 at her home.
She was employed by the Wise County School System as a teacher and had lived in Big Stone Gap most of her life.
Survivors include her husband, Earl C. Barker; a son, David Barker, Dunedin, Fla.; two brothers, George Hunt, Danville, Va., and Fred Hunt, Los Angeles; a sister, Betty Reye, Orlando, Fla.; and a grandchild.

Oakel M. Boyd
BIRCHLEAF, Va. -- Oakel M. Boyd, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
She was a native of Buchanan County and the widow of Frenchman Boyd.
She was a member of Russell Prater Old Regular Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons, Dale Boyd, Maxie, Va., Dewey Boyd and Anthony Boyd, both of Birchleaf, Randy Boyd, Davenport, Va., Joey Allen Boyd, Breaks, Va., and Gordon Wade Boyd, Haysi; three daughters, Carolyn Boyd Hall, Sandra Kay Bailey and Althea Lou Fleming, all of Haysi; three sisters, Lula Church, Birchleaf, Dida Hackney, Harman, Va., and Lucy Coleman, Birchleaf; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

SALEM, Va. -- Mrs. Alynne K. Bragg, 76, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in Salem Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was a native of Russell County and had lived in Salem the past 35 years.
She was a former employee of Russell Manufacturing, Lebanon and Maid Bess Corporation, Salem.
She was a member of Mountain Pass Baptist Church and was the widow of Thomas H. Bragg.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Marcus (Ruby) Dowdy, Salem, Mrs. Holly (Sue) Mutter, Roanoke, Mrs. Robert (Rita) Burks, Bedford, Va., Mrs. Betty Richerson, Bristol Virginia, Mrs. Leonard (Imogean) Salyers, Lebanon, Mrs. Johnny (Ida) Bumgarner, Castlewood; a son, Thomas J. "Buck" Bragg, Salem; a sister, Mrs. Miles (Lee Ann) Kegley, Honaker; a brother, Hoyt Kiser, Cleveland, Va.; 18 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

SALTVILLE//RICH VALLEY -- Mrs. Virgie Edna Cook, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She was the widow of Hobert H. Cook and was a native of Smyth County.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church and also attended the Church of God, Ridgedale, Va.
Survivors include three sons, Charles W. "Bill" Cook and Hobert H. Cook Jr., both of Saltville, and Jimmy Lee Cook, Abingdon; two daughters, Peggy Jean Taylor, Abingdon, and Mary Gray Sanders, Saltville; three daughters-in-law; two sons-in-law; a grandson; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Elizabeth Davis
PARK FOREST, Ill. -- Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, 80, formerly of Richlands, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1999, in Park Forest, Ill.
She was a native of Richlands and had made her home in Illinois for the past 45 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Janice Cour, Santee, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Jewell, Claypool Hill; two brothers, Carl Davis, Richlands, and Robert Davis, Claypool Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were conducted Wednesday in Park Forest, Ill.

Ralph J. Dingus
The Rev. Ralph J. Dingus, 74, of Bristol Tennessee, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home.
He was a native of Fort Blackmore, Va., a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was ordained into the Nazarene Church ministry in 1955, serving in various ministerial duties. His congregations included Churches of the Nazarene in Greenville, Kingsport and Bristol Tennessee. The Rev. Dingus was very active in the building and expansion of churches, congregations and evangelical programs in all of his church callings.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Hamilton Dingus; three daughters, Linda Templeton, Corpus Christi, Texas, Susan Blevins, Bristol Tennessee, and Melissa Dingus, Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, David Dingus, Dallas, and Steve Dingus, Atlanta; a brother, Cecil Dingus, Kingsport; a sister, Gracie Dingus Sams, Kingsport; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
