DANTE -- Claudia Ann Baker Sutherland, 50, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge.

Francis C. Tate Sr.

Francis Campbell Tate Sr., 81, of 13120 Melina Lane, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home.
He had lived in the Bristol area for 45 years, was a former exterminator and retired as a service station manager.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, and served in the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Valery Tate; two daughters, Gloria Gately of Bristol Tennessee, and Teresa Fiorito of West Milford, N.J.; two sons, Francis Campbell Tate Jr. and Gary Tate, both of Bristol Virginia; two brothers, Robert Tate and Leon Tate, both of Bristol Virginia; six grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Roger D. Ward

RAVEN, Va. -- The Rev. Roger Dale Ward, 44, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999, in Keen Mountain, Va.
He was a native of Tazewell County, a disabled electrician and a member of the Keen Mountain Pentecostal Church in Keen Mountain.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Ward; a daughter, Valerie Renae Ward of the home; a son, Rodney Dale Ward of the home; his mother, Mrs. Nora Kinder Ward of Jewell Ridge, Va.; three brothers, Darrell Ward and Harold "Benny" Ward, both of Jewell Ridge, and Clyde Ward of Mouth Card, Ky.; three sisters, Mrs. Connie Stiltner of Jewell Ridge, Mrs. Jodie Horn of Richlands, and Mrs. Helen Christian of Smith Ridge, Va.
Buchanan Funeral Service of Keen Mountain is in charge.

Etta J. Wilson

Etta Jane Wilson, 87, a former resident of 633 Locust St., Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in Ivy Hall Nursing Home in Elizabethton.
She was a native of Adkins, Va., and a member of Full Gospel Fellowship Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Tressie Merritt of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Bobby J. Woods

CASTLEWOOD -- Bobby Joe Woods, 58, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
He was a native of Russell County, a retired miner, a member of UMWA, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Castlewood.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Sue Woods; two daughters, Mrs. Steve (Kim) Salyer of Castlewood, and Mrs. Danny (Sherry) Duty of Honaker; a son Larry Woods of Birmingham, Ala.; three sisters, Agnes Addington, Louise Evans and Edna Smith, all of Castlewood; two brothers, Howard Woods of Castlewood, and Bill Woods of Casa Grande, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge.

Clell J. Blankenship

PAW PAW, Ky. -- Clell J. Blankenship, 65, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy.
He was a native of Pike County, Ky., a lifelong resident of the Pike County area and a member of Kelsa Church of Christ.
He was a retired coal miner and was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Blankenship.
Survivors include a son, Earl Blankenship of Sharps Chapel, Tenn.; two brothers, Willard Blankenship of Oakwood, Va., and Elijah Blankenship of Paw Paw; and two grandchildren.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge.

Leo H. Branham

SALTVILLE -- Leo Hayter Branham, 71, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church, where he was past Chairman of the Board, and was the former owner of Saltville Insurance Agency.
Mr. Branham was a member and past president of the Lions Club and former Chairman of SIDA in Saltville.
Survivors include his wife, Ellie Branham; a son, Michael Branham of Hendersonville, N.C.; a brother, Clyde George Branham of Richmond; three sisters, Vivian Moore of Tazewell, Va., June DeBord of Cleveland, Tenn., and Reba Branham of Salisbury, N.C.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home of Saltville is in charge.

Annie M. Campbell

Annie Mae Campbell, 88, of 116 Lilly St., Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, March 5, 1999, in Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a native of Abingdon and had made her home in Bristol. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, William Clifton Campbell of the home; a niece; a great-nephew; and two cousins.
Robinson Mortuary of Bristol is in charge.

Dorothy M. Goss

WHITEWOOD, Va. -- Dorothy Marie Goss, 73, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Whitewood, a member of the Loggie Bottom Church, and the widow of Elmer Ritter Goss.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Wanda) Fraley of Big Rock, Va.; six sons, Leon Goss of El Paso, Texas, Ralph Goss of Daleville, Va., Dennie Ray Goss of Pilgrims Knob, Va., James Goss of Oakwood, Va., and Jimmy Goss and Richard Goss, both of Whitewood; two brothers, Leonard Kelly of Jolo, W.Va., and Charlie Kelly of Whitewood; a sister, Creedis Payne of North Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Buchanan Funeral Service of Keen Mountain is in charge.

McArthur Hill

MILLNER, Ga. -- McArthur "Mack" Hill, 55, formerly of Haysi, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Millner.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge.

Douglas E. Horne Sr.

COEBURN -- Douglas Eugene Horne Sr., 68, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital.
He began his career with Farmers Exchange Bank in Coeburn in 1952, moved on to Virginia National Bank, Sovran Bank, and retired from Nations Bank, after a total of 40 years of service in the banking industry.
Mr. Horne was a member of Coeburn Lions Club for 25 years, serving as president, secretary-treasurer, and was treasurer at the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Falin Horne; two sons, Douglas Horne Jr. of Coeburn, and Gary Horne of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two daughters, Pamela Horne and Lisa Horne, both of Coeburn; a brother, Victor R. Horne of Jonesborough; a sister, Phyllis Vargas of Oak Ridge; two granddaughters; a grandson; a great-granddaughter; three nieces; and several cousins.
Estes Funeral Home of Coeburn is in charge.

William B. Johnson

William B. "Bill" Johnson, 74, of Bristol Virginia, died Friday, March 5, 1999 in NHC Health Care of Bristol.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and a charter member of Freedom Baptist Church. He retired from Kerns Bakery where he had been employed for 27 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle M. Johnson; two daughters, Carol Holt of Bristol Tennessee, and Patricia Dunn of Elizabethton; a son, Jim Johnson of Bristol Virginia; four sisters, Doris Wright of Bristol Tennessee, Ruby Mobley of Blountville, Lillian Holt and Martha Burnette, both of Bristol Virginia; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
