Willard L. Stallard Sr.

COEBURN -- Willard Lee Stallard Sr., 82, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
He was a lifelong resident of the Flatwood section and a son of the late James H. and Melvina Greear Stallard. He was a retired coal miner and a former employee of U.S. Steel. He attended Flatwoods Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Norma Lee Holbrook Stallard; a son, Lee Stallard Jr. of Coeburn; three daughters, Judy Taylor and Donna Corder, both of Coeburn, and Dina Tahbaz of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Bertha Moneyhun of Coeburn; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Estes Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mr. Stallard was also preceded in death by a brother, Emmerson Stallard; and five sisters, Naomi Donahue, Lilie Donahue, Hettie Harris, Ruby Meade and Beatrice Brickey.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Thursday in Estes Funeral Home.

Gertrude F. Warren

ABINGDON -- Gertrude Foran Warren, 95, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Abingdon Manor.
She was a daughter of the late James Wiley and Margaret Stout Foran. She attended Greendale High School and lived all her life in Bristol and Washington County communities. She was a homemaker and owner//operator of Lonnie's Confectionery in Bristol, Va., for several years. She was the widow of Lonnie Basil Warren and a member of Abingdon Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Harold E. Warren of Bristol Virginia; a brother, Joseph C. "Joe" Foran of Winder, Ga.; a sister, Louise Foran Bott of Abingdon; four grandchildren, H. Marion Warren of Sugar Grove, N.C., Dianna W. Sparger of Abingdon, J. Larry Campbell of Bristol Virginia and Debra C. Simpson of Meadowview; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Steve Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in Warren Cemetery in Abingdon.
Mrs. Warren was also preceded in death by a daughter, Katie Ruth Warren Campbell.
Among survivors are great-grandchildren Gabriele B. Colvin, Laura C. Carr, Luther G. Campbell, Maggie R. Campbell, Johnathan E. Sparger, Adriana M. Warren, Joshua D. Warren, Caleb A. Warren, Gwendalynne C. Simpson and Naomi C. Simpson; great-great-grandchildren Jessica N. Whitaker and Dakota M. Colvin; and a daughter-in-law, Hilda T. Warren.
Pallbearers will be Carl Foran, Mark Barrett, Earl Warren, Joe Tolliver, Wayne Turley and Johnnie Warren. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Foran, Jimmy Foran, Pat Worley, Roy Wilson, Charles Hicks, Roy Hudler, Bill Owens and the Rev. Tom Williams.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Farris Funeral Service.

Valerie A. Baker

COEBURN -- Funeral services for Valerie Anne Baker will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Kermit Evans and Virgil Musick will officiate. Burial will be in Carter Cemetery in Fort Blackmore, Va. Miss Baker, 20, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mabel D. Billiter

ROANOKE -- Mabel Lorene Duncan Billiter, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in Raleigh Court Health Care Center in Roanoke.
She was born in Lake City, Tenn., a daughter of the late Martin and Martha Kennedy Duncan. She was a member of the Church of Christ, a homemaker and the widow of Richard Billiter.
Surviving are two daughters, Janice Payne of Hurley, Va., and Judy Shaffer of Roanoke; two sons, Robert Billiter of Abingdon and James Billiter of Vansant, Va.; three sisters, Cora Carter of Florida, and Elizabeth Reynolds and Ellie Robinson, both of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Grundy Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelists Mike Rife and Mike Trent will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va.
Among survivors are two sons-in-law, Elmer Payne of Hurley and Pete Shaffer of Roanoke; two daughters-in-law, Linda Billiter of Abingdon and Shirley Billiter of Vansant; grandchildren Michael Billiter and wife Anita of Wytheville, Randy Billiter and wife Wanda of Vansant, Chad Lovell, and Tammy Strickland and husband Wayne, all of Roanoke, Shelia Ratliff and husband Steve of Cana, Va., Cindy Cantrell and husband Ronnie of Heathsville, Va., Steven Moore and wife Angie of Oakwood, Va.; and great-grandchildren Cody and Lori Billiter, Shannon Lovell, Renee Moore, Katey and Justin Ratliff, Brandy Billiter, Malaina and Wayne Strickland Jr. and Trevor Cantrell.
Pallbearers will be Michael Billiter, Randy Billiter, Chad Lovell, Steven Moore, Ronnie Cantrell, Wayne Strickland and Steve Ratliff.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday in Grundy Funeral Home.

Helen Burke

NORTON -- Helen Farmer Burke, 74, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Scott County, Va., and lived in Regency Towers in Norton for 17 years. She was an employee of the Ice Cream Parlor for 14 years.
Surviving are a son, Gary L. Shelton of Townville, S.C.; a sister, Ava Mae Mabe of Big Stone Gap; two brothers, James Paul Farmer of El Paso, Texas, and Emmett Farmer of Abingdon; a grandson; and a granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Hagy Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Darrell Bolling will officiate. Burial will be in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Among survivors are grandsons, Tim and Wes Shelton; and granddaughter, Deborah Franklin.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Hagy Funeral Home.

Daniel W. Charles

KINGSPORT -- Funeral services for Daniel William "Danny" Charles will be conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel in Bristol, Tenn. The Rev. Johnny Burton will officiate. Graveside services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Clintwood-Colley Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rakes Family Cemetery in Clintwood.
Mr. Charles, 32, of 749 Beulah Church Road, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and a son of Edgar Charles of Kingsport and the late Mazalee Rakes Charles. He was a brick mason and welder and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, besides his father, are three daughters, Ciara Charles, Danielle Charles and Samarea Charles; a son, Daniel Cody Charles; a brother, Larry Charles of Bluff City, Tenn.; two sisters, Vicky Charles Webb of Gray, Tenn., and Betty Graybeal of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Among survivors are several aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Roark, Jack Graybeal, Randy Webb, Jeff Keesee, Chad Smith and Larry Charles. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Webb and Terry Harless.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Wednesday before the service in Weaver Funeral Home.

Wallace R. Cooper

PILGRIM KNOB, Va. -- Elder Wallace R. Cooper, 96, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, in a Grundy hospital.
He was born in McDowell County, W.Va., a son of the late Dave and Luvene Rife Cooper, both Buchanan County natives. He was a retired miner and farmer and served as an elder in Primitive Baptist Church for 71 years. He lived in the Buchanan County area most of his life and was a member of Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church at Pea Patch, Va. He was a member of UMWA Local Union 7327 of Jewell Valley, Va. He was the widower of Elzena Wimmer Cooper, Rachel Boyd Cooper and Rosie Horn Cooper.
Surviving are five daughters, Kizzie Wimmer of Bluefield, Va., Ola Gay Nelson of Quaker City, Ohio, Girtrue Addair and Lovatta Lester, both of Pilgrim Knob, and June Matney of Fredericksburg, Va.; three sons, Sammy Cooper of Brunswick, Ohio, and Charlie Cooper and Gilbert Cooper, both of Jewell Ridge, Va.; four step-daughters, Dorothy Horn of Jolo, W.Va., Eunice Smith, Gertrude Bobinson and Donna Lambert, all of Clermont, Ga.; two stepsons, Tommy Roberts and Roger Roberts, both of Clermont; 31 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several great-grandchidren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Pilgrim Rest Primitive Baptist Church at Pea Patch by Hurst-Scott Funeral Home of Richlands. Elders Eunice Davis and Junior Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Wimmer Cemetery at Pea Patch.
Mr. Cooper was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rosie Cooper; five sons, Clarence, Clyde, Kermit, Eugene and Newton Cooper; a stepson, Luther Roberts Jr.; a grandson, Terry Vencil; three sisters, Louise Rife, Lucy Lester and Ida Lowe; and five brothers, Walter, Charlie, Booker, John and Arthur Cooper.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, where a service will be held at 7 p.m. by the Rev. Lawrence Horn and Singers.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William F. Countiss

William Franklin "W.F." Countiss, 63, of Bristol Virginia died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a son of the late William Burley and Stella McCroskey Countiss. He was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Army veteran. He was an employee of Wright Equipment Co., a farmer and formerly employed by Empire Ford.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Seymore Countiss; a son, Richard F. Conntiss of Johnson City; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Patricia A.) Barb of Nashville; two brothers, Horace Countiss of Bristol Virginia and Paul Countiss of Abingdon; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel in Abingdon. The Rev. Jerry Eggers will officiate. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Mr. Countiss was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roscoe Countiss and George Countiss.
Among survivors is a grandson, Thomas Edward Barb.
Pallbearers will be Chester Countiss, Michael Countiss, Phillip Countiss, Henry Countiss, Sam D. Seymore, Greg Lewis, Eric Barb and Jay Barb. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Wright Equipment Co.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Farris Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Valley View Baptist Church or the Greenfield Baptist Church.
