Virginia Wright

ST. PAUL -- Funeral services for Virginia Wright will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. John McFalls and Harold Shortridge will officiate. Burial will be in Brewer Cemetery in St. Paul.
Mrs. Wright, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Keith, Kelly Chafin, John Henry Johnson, Bobby Hill, Vearl Hileman and David Hileman.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Claude S. Yeary Sr.

COEBURN -- Claude Swanson Yeary Sr., 86, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, in Big Stone Gap.
He was a retired merchant, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Flatwoods Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Rubie Florence Yeary; a daughter, Patricia Y. Stallard of Knoxville; four sons, William Yeary, Johnny Yeary Sr. and Dennis Yeary Sr., all of Coeburn, and David Yeary of Wise; a brother, Woodrow Yeary of Coeburn; a sister, Edna Y. Kilgore of Coeburn; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jerry D. Hayes will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn with military graveside rites by VFW Post 4301 of Norton and DAV Chapter 56 of Wise.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Wednesday in Sturgill Funeral Home.

Sena J. Akers

MEADOWVIEW -- Graveside services for Sena Johnson Akers will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park by Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. The Rev. Wayne Parsons will officiate.
Mrs. Akers, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at her home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Clinch Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Charles E. Bear Sr.

RURAL RETREAT, Va. -- Charles E. "Top" Bear Sr., 78, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at his home.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Cordia Snavely Bear; three daughters, Joan Minnick of Bristol Virginia, and Becky Langston and Ellen Tilson, both of Rural Retreat; a son, Bill Bear of Rural Retreat; a brother, David F. Bear of Atkins, Va.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Fulton United Methodist Church in Groseclose by Seaver- Brown Funeral Service in Marion. The Revs. Rance Edwards and Richard Gregory will officiate. The body will be taken to the church an hour before the service. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.
Among survivors are son-in-law Tom Tilson of Rural Retreat; daughter-in-law Brenda Bear of Rural Retreat; grandchildren Scott Bear, B.J. Bear, Michael Minnick, Chris Langston, Kim Langston, Ben Langston, Emily Tilson and Katie Tilson; great-grandchidlren Kai Langston and Jake Langston; step-grandchildren Melissa Musser and Stephanie McCleese; and step-great-grandchild Garrett Musser.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Seaver- Brown Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, c//o Lynn Manweiler, 448 Cummings St., P.O. Andrew R. Brown

RICHLANDS -- Andrew Rhea Brown, 98, of 738 E. Second St., died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in an Abingdon hospital.
He was born in Giles County, Va., a son of the late Thomas Lee and Annie Zell Brown, both Giles County natives. He had lived in the Richlands area most of his life. He attended National Business College in Roanoke and was a manager for M.O. Warner Wholesale in Richlands from 1935-67. He was a member of Richlands First United Methodist Church and a 75-year member of Pruner Lodge 254 AF&AMin Honaker. He was the widower of Fannie Mae Slaughter.
Surviving are a step-grandson, Tommy Hawkins of Belfast, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Revs. Norman Wilhoit and Stafford Compton will officiate. Burial will be in Slaughter Family Cemetery in Honaker.
Mr. Brown was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Eileen Hawkins.
He is also survived by step-granddaughter-in-law Lois Hawkins of Belfast.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Barrett, Claude Barrett, M.O. Warner Jr., James S. Mabe, Bert Harrison and Richland Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Belcher, Paul Baldwin, Andy Warner and D.C. Jessee.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Union Mission, Bluefield, W.Va., or Good Samaritan Food Pantry, 106 Veterans Drive, Richlands, VA 24641.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret L. Burke

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Margaret Lee Burke will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Burke, 84, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in Grace Health Care.
She retired from Martha Washington Inn after 30 years of service and attended Lebanon Church of God. She was the widow of Bob Burke.
Surviving are five sons, Roger Burke of Boothwyn, Pa., Casey Burke of Linnwood, Pa., Mike Burke and Giles Burke, both of Abingdon, and Bruce Burke of Bristol Virginia; a daughter, Gay Puckett of Lebanon; a brother, R.J. "Red" Anderson of Abingdon; four sisters, Kate Trent, Ann Fugate, Ruth Gobble and Lorene Loyd, all of Abingdon; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Burke was also preceded in death by three sons, Bud, Charlie and Eddie; and a daughter, Frances Love.
Among survivors is a foster daughter, Wanda Compton of Lebanon.
The family is especially grateful to the staff of Grace Health Care and the third and fifth floor staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Farris Funeral Service.

Nora Huff Clark

WISE -- Nora Huff Clark, 102, formerly of Wise, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, in Indian Path Hospital in Kingsport.
She had lived in The Oaks of Brandy Mill for the past 18 months and attended Beverly Hills Tabernacle in Wise.
She was a member of Eastern Star Gladeville Chapter 171 in Wise and served in the Red Cross during World War I. She was a homemaker and the widow of Palmer Clark.
Surviving are two daughters, Lema Falin and Jewell T. Brooks, both of Kingsport; two sons, Andoff "B.A." Clark of Mendota and James B. Clark of Cleveland, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise. The Rev. Bobby Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, East Stone Gap.
Mrs. Clark was also preceded in death by a son, Warren Clark in 1993.
Among survivors are son-in-law Gene Brooks of Kingsport; daughter-in-law Betty Clark of Cleveland, Ohio; and grandchildren Fred C. Hall, Cobenna Barker, Bedeliah Presnall, Linda Danko, Mike Thomas, Ernest J. "Jimmy" Thomas Jr., Darrell Clark, Helen Clark and Michelle Clark.
The family will receive friends from noon to time of service Thursday in Sturgill Funeral Home.

Alvin Davidson

MARION -- Alvin Davidson, 46, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
He was born in Saltville, Va.
Surviving are his wife, Ramona Davidson; two brothers, Roger Pidney Davidson of Berea, Ky., and Randall Davidson of Saltville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Surber will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Memorial Cemetery.
Among survivors is a special friend, Dan Thompson of Marion.
Pallbearers will be Ben Davidson, Harley Davidson, Kevin Greer, James C. Greer, Wayne Billings and Roby Hayden.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Henderson Funeral Home.

Betty L. Heninger

ABINGDON -- Betty L. Heninger, 67, of 1285 Pine St., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Tazewell County and had lived most of her life in Abingdon. She was a beautician in Abingdon for 12 years.
Surviving are her husband, Steven Jackson Heninger; a son, Steven Jackson Heninger Jr. of Glade Spring; a sister, Jane Martin of Meadowview; a brother, Paul Ferrell of Meadowview; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The Rev. Emmit Wilson will officiate.
Among survivors is daughter-in-law Lisa Jane Heninger of Glade Spring.
This much loved lady will be missed by her family and friends.
There will be no public visitation in Campbell Funeral Home.
