Agnes S. Gilliam

CLINTWOOD -- Agnes S. Gilliam died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Clintwood, a daughter of Columbus and Lydia Rasnick Sutherland. She had lived her entire life in Clintwood and retired from Dickenson County Department of Social Services after 37 years of service. She was a member of Clintwood Baptist Church, Chase-Rebekah Lodge and the widow of John C. Gilliam.
Surviving are two daughters, Frances Blair and Mary Ruth Bise, both of Clintwood; a son, Dr. Norman C. Ratliffe of Clintwood; a sister, Margaret S. Porter of Clintwood; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Stuart L. Sutherland will officiate. Burial will be in Phipps Memorial Cemetery in Clintwood.
Mrs. Gilliam was also preceded in death by two brothers, Stuart Sutherland and Dr. A.R. Sutherland; and a son, John R. Gilliam.
Pallbearers will be friends, nephews and grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Ayers Shortt, Roy Rose, Randall Lawler, Badge Rasnick, Tolby Mooney and Joe Scardo.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m Thursday in Clintwood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to a favorite charity.

Mary Lorene Harris

ABINGDON -- Mary (Lorene) Harris, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and attended Johnston Memorial School of Nursing. She was a former member of Wolfe Creek Home Demonstration Club, a former Sunday School teacher and former member of William King High School Athletic Boosters. She was a member of Greendale Chapel in Abingdon and the widow of Boyd Gail Harris Sr.
Surviving are a son, Boyd Gail Harris Jr. of Manassas; a daughter, Lillian H. Galliher of Lebanon; two brothers, Robert L. Miller Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, and Russell Miller of Wyndale; three sisters, Ruth Blaylock and Evelyn Gobble, both of Abingdon, and Winifred Fleenor of Wyndale; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m. in Farris Funeral Service. The Revs. Kyle Barr, Jerry Eggers and pastor Tom Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Harris was also preceded in death by a half-sister, Irma Burroughs; and a brother, L.K. "Bud" Miller.
Pallbearers will be Mark Harris, John Jessee, Greg Thompson, Matt Thompson, Ben Thompson, Ken Pope and Gary Lavendar. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Jones, Carl Lindstrom, Mike Harris, Harold Jessee, Rick Thompson and James Fleenor.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Farris Funeral Service.

Betty L. Heninger

ABINGDON -- Graveside services for Betty L. Heninger will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The Rev. Emmit Wilson will officiate.
Mrs. Heninger, 67, of 1285 Pine St., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
There will be no public visitation in Campbell Funeral Home.

John D. Jackson

John Daniel "Danny" Jackson, 28, of 19585 Pairgin Road, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol Virginia and a son of John and Linda Jackson of Bristol Virginia. He was a farmer and attended Valley View Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Angie Hale and Mrs. Billy (Amy) Thomas, both of Bristol Virginia; paternal grandmother, Virginia Jackson of Bristol Virginia; maternal grandmother, Emma Marsh of Bristol Virginia; and three nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Valley View Baptist Church by Weaver Funeral Home. The Revs. Kenneth Widner and Lewis Dye will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Hale, Joey Hale, Keith Taylor, Phil Dowell, Gregg Jackson and Wayne Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Freddy Jackson, Billy Thomas III, Jason Able, Harold Hall, Bobby Harless, Bobby Taylor and Bradley Harless.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home or friends may call at the home of Virginia Jackson or Emma Marsh.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edna J. Matney

GRUNDY -- Edna Justus Matney, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy.
She was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a daughter of the late Paris and Lydia Stacy Justus. She was a member of Old Regular Baptist Church, a homemaker and the widow of Robert Matney.
Surviving are four daughters, Shirley Stacy, Christine Stacy and Geraldine Wilmer, all of Grundy, and Wilma Blankenship of Hiddenite, N.C.; six sons, Ira Matney, Jerry Matney and Richard Matney, all of Grundy, Herman Matney and Ray Matney, both of Stacy, and Carter Matney of Richlands; two sisters, Cletis Justus of Grundy and Dolly Sparks of Tazewell; three brothers, Clayton Justus and Burl Justus, both of Grundy, and Hassell Justus of Bluefield, W.Va.; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Grundy Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelist Michael Trent and elders Paul McClanahan and Billy Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock.
Mrs. Matney was also preceded in death by two daughters, Lorene Keen and Myrtle Matney; a son, Haven Matney; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Ellis and Hayes Justus.
Among survivors are a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be sons-in-law, Dr. J.G. Patel and Aaron Mullins.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert L. McFaddin

ABINGDON -- Robert Lee McFaddin, 79, of 16166 Richardson Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Russell County. He was a veteran of World War II, a retired truck driver and a member of Carvosso United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Lucille McFaddin; a son, James L. McFaddin of Abingdon; a daughter, Lillie Widener of Abingdon; two sisters, Audrey McReynolds of Bristol Virginia and Sara Pippin of Abingdon; two brothers, Thomas McFaddin of Meadowview and Henry McFaddin of Hansonville, Va.; three granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Campbell Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Leonard Smith and Mark McFaddin will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military honors by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975.
Among survivors is son-in-law Jimmy Allen Widener of Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be Robert E. Peters, Kenneth Long, Andy Hall, R.C. Miller, Zane Pierce, Billy Joe Blevins, Eddie McConnell and Richard Duncan. Honorary pallbearers will be Reelia Watson, physicians of Highlands Internal Medicine and Dr. James W. Denton.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Campbell Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Carvosso United Methodist Church, 19429 Rustic Lane, Abingdon, VA 24210.

William Nash

DEARBORN, Mich. -- Funeral services for William "Bill" Nash will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Johnny Kiser will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Nash, 85, died Monday, Jan. 3, 1000, in a Dearborn hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel.

Claude C. Nidiffer

RODA, Va. -- Claude F. Nidiffer, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport.
He was a son of the late Wiley and Rosa Nidiffer and a member of First Apostolic Faith Church of God in Appalachia. He was a U.S. Army veteran in the Tech 4 Medical Detachment serving in Europe with the 78th Infantry Division, 310th Regiment Medical Detachment. His tour of duty included Scotland, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a recipient of the European Theater of Operations Medal with three Bronze Stars, Combat Medical Badge, Purple Heart, European Theater of Operations Occupational Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Nidiffer; four daughters, Mary Hensley of Kingsport, Claudine Barker of Coeburn, Jamie Bledsoe of Norton and Amy Burke of Big Stone Gap; four sons, David Nidiffer of Wise, Tony Nidiffer and Steve Nidiffer, both of Roda, and George Rose of Alexandria, Va.; a brother, Ray Nidiffer of Dunbar, Va.; 11 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; two nieces; and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in First Apostolic Faith Church of God in Appalachia by Roy A. Green Funeral Home. The Rev. Johnny Flanary will officiate. The body will be taken to the church an hour before services. Graveside services will be in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Col. Hagy Chapter 45 of DAV will officiate.
Mr. Nidiffer was also preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Gene Parsons and Anna Ruth Nidiffer; and a brother, Wiley Paul Nidiffer.
He was inducted into the military Sept. 30, 1943, and entered the service Oct. 21, 1943, in Abingdon, Va. He was discharged March 18, 1946, at Fort Dix, N.J.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Roy A. Green Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23048.

Martha C. Presnell

Funeral services for Martha Jane Cross Presnell will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. John Rayburn and Allen Brummitt and Dewey Shaffer will officiate. Burial will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Florence Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Presnell, 56, of 346 Deck Valley Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was born in Bristol Tennessee. She was a graduate of Holston Valley High School and had lived in New Town and Danbury, Conn., for 22 years before moving back to the Bristol area. She was the widow of James E. Presnell, a member of Bethel View Baptist Church and employed with Federal Pacific Transformers.
Surviving are two stepsons, Jim Presnell of Savannah, Ga., and Mark Presnell of Pensacola, Fla.
Among survivors is a special friend, Ed Kerns of Bristol Tennessee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cbarles Gates, Walter Thomas, Carl Durham, Charles Eades, Ed Moody, Billy Kerns, Rick Kerns, Jay Chesnut and Mike Martin.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Thursday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel.
