ANDERSON
Ruby L. Anderson, 85, of Boydton, died September 6, 2001. She was the widow of Jim Anderson and a member of Boydton United Methodist Church. She is survived by her sister, Grace L. Hershman, Chase City; nieces, Christine Blackman, Durham, N.C.; Patricia Yeates, Clarksville, Elizabeth H. Lowrance, Chase City, Barbara Beacham, Powhatan; nephew, Frank Smiley, Dinwiddie. Friends may call at Wood Funeral Service, Chase City, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday at Wood Funeral Service with the Rev. Richard Meiser and the Rev. David Blakely officiating. Interment in Boydton Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Contributions may be directed to Boydton Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund.

BECK
Mr. Hilaire Emil Beck Jr., 86, of The Hermitage, Richmond, died on September 4, 2001. He was born and reared in Richmond where he was graduated from Benedictine High School, class of 1932 and University of Richmond, class of 1936 and was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After graduation he was employed by the Philip Morris Tobacco Co. holding various executive positions for 43 years. Upon the onset of World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve serving aboard the USS Gen. John R Brook troop transport as navigator in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Indian theaters until obtaining the rank of commander. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Manning Beck, and is survived by two daughters, Fanny Manning Lineberger and Ann Manning Moorefield; his only son, Hilaire Emil Beck III; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters, Eleanor Lane of New Jersey and Marie McGraw of Maryland; and his brother, James E. Beck of Georgia. The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday ending with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials be sent to Benedictine High School or St. Gertrude High School.

BENNETT
Viola Stith Liggins Bennett entered eternal rest September 3, 2001 after a brief illness. Mrs. Bennett was a retired teacher with Richmond Public Schools, where she taught for 28 years at Maggie L. Walker and John Marshall High Schools. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Maurice Liggins. Cherishing her memory are her devoted husband, Oscar Bennett; daughter Marcia (Charles) Hubbard; one son, Maurice Dale (Valerie) Liggins; grandchildren, Monica and Tracy Hubbard and Nicole and Darin Liggins; four sisters, one brother, one stepson, and their families. The family will receive friends Friday 7 to 8 p.m. in the All Faiths Chapel of the A.D. Price Funeral Establishment, 212 East Leigh St. A Eulogistic Service will be conducted Saturday, 11 a.m. at the Garland Avenue Baptist Church, 2700 Garland Avenue with the Reverend Clifford Chambliss officiating. BEYERSDOERFER
Earl Adolphus Beyersdoerfer, 76, a devoted Christian, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, departed this life September 4, 2001 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital. Mr. Beyersdoerfer left his native Kentucky in 1941 to serve in the Army. He later became a plastics engineer in his long-time home of Cincinnati. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dora; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam and John McAlister of Glen Allen; a sister and brother-in-law; and his three grandchildren. The family welcomes visitors Thursday 7 p.m. at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will follow at Westhampton Cemetery. Donations in memorial may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia.

BRENT
Departed this life suddenly September 2, 2001, Clyde Stuart Brent Jr. (Skip) of 2617 Parkwood Ave. He is survived by his mother, Jean Brent; two sisters, Mrs. Jackie Anderson and Ms. Brenda Brent; two brothers, George and William Brent; grandmother, Elizabeth Brent; aunts, Daisy Bryant and Jean Rooks; uncle, Robert Bryant; two devoted sisters-in-law, Cynthia and Veronica Brent; two great-aunts; devoted friend, Helen Willis; and many other relatives and friends, among them the devoted, Evans family. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave., where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Earl Robinson officiating. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Ms. Mary F. Bull of Richmond departed this life Tuesday, September 4, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mildred and Fred Bull Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Elandra Bull; her son, Gary Bull Sr.; one brother, Fred Bull Jr.; three grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins among them, a niece, Raemonika (Coodie) Bull; and nephew, Timothy Bull, other relatives and friends, among them a devoted friend, Gregory Conner. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts., where funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8, 1 p.m. Rev. Robert Winfree officiating. Interment in Maury Cemetery. Ruth Moore Clary, age 82, of Lawrenceville, Va. died September 5, 2001. She was the widow of Hubert Louis Clary and is survived by two daughters, Shirley C. Wray of Gaston, N.C. and Faye C. Schutt of Colonial Heights; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gracie Eastwood of Lawrenceville and Edna Malone of Freeman; and one brother, Herbert Moore of Mechanicsville. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Rock United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lawrenceville. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock United Methodist Church, 115 Eastview Drive, Lawrenceville, Va., 23868. The family will be at the residence of Gracie Eastwood on Saturday.

CLAYTON
Frank H. Clayton Sr., 90, of Chester, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward H. Clayton and Kate E. Clayton; and eight brothers and sisters. A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Cora A. Clayton; and seven children, Brenda Weaver of Lanexa, Frank H. Jr. of Dinwiddie, Nancy F. Davis of Chesterfield, Linda C. Jones of Midlothian, James D. of Huddleston, Robert L. of Chesterfield, and Donna K. Bates of Chester; 11 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Clayton was a retired supervisor for Champion Paper Company. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Nora Gilliam Harrell, 88, widow of Gordon B. Harrell, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001. She is survived by three sons, Gordon B. Harrell Jr. of Morrisdale, Pa., Leon G. "Fuzzy" Harrell of Emporia and James W. "Jimmy" Harrell of Jarratt; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Harrell was preceded in death by one daughter, Virginia H. Clapper. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt, where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2001. Dianne Lynn Harris, 43, of Goochland, Va., passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Bernard B. Harris III; two daughters, Dianne Nichole "Nikki" and Ashley Lynn; one brother, William Edward Salmon Jr. of Columbia, Va.; a stepbrother, Billy Salmon of Mechanicsville. Remains rest at the Norman Funeral Home, Goochland, Va., where family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 8, 11 a.m. at Gum Spring United Methodist Church, Gum Spring, Va. HAWES
Euphrin E. Hawes Sr., 67, of Newtown, Va., passed on September 3, 2001. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 11 a.m., at First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Newtown, Va., Rev. T. Scott Swann officiating. Remains will lie in repose on Friday, September 7, 1 to 8 p.m. at C.W. Edwards Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Va. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

HAYES
Richard J. Hayes Sr., age 76, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at John Randolph Medical Center. He was born August 2, 1925 in Sussex County, Va., the son of the late Richard H. and Pannie Lee Rideout Hayes. Richard served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a charter member of the Enon Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for many years. He retired from Allied Chemical Co. with over 42 years service and was a member of Crater View Baptist Church and Outdoor World Camping Club. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Drummond of Augusta, Ga., Donna Marie Throckmorton of Prince George, and Deborah Jean Strawser of Enon, Va.; one son, Richard J. Hayes Jr. of Chester, Va.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. Hayes; and a grandson, Richard Alan Carver. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at Gould Chapel Nelsen Funeral Home, where a celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2001 by Rev. Bill Kinney. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park with military honors. Gould Chapel - Nelsen Funeral Home (804) 458-6377 is in charge of arrangements.
