CASTLEWOOD -- Funeral services for Joann Chafin Statzer will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Russell County Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Ted Rasnake and Virgil Musick will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mrs. Statzer, 78, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Grover and Elsie Meade Chafin. She attended the Honaker Chapel Church and was a member of Russell County Home Demonstration Club. She was the widow of S.O. Statzer.
Surviving are four daughters, Darcella Campbell and Cathy Shortt, both of Bristol Virginia, and Joretta Horne and Teresa Hicks, both of Castlewood; five sons, Samuel Statzer Jr., Roger Statzer, Gary Lynn Statzer and Mike Statzer, all of Lebanon, and Ricky Statzer of Abingdon; six sisters, Inez Grant, Etta Ruth Boughton and Janice Cole, all of Richmond, Virginia Loftus of Wayland, N.Y., and Lexie Snead and Lucreata Huffman, both of Lebanon; two brothers, R.C. Chafin of Lebanon and Jim Chafin of Castlewood; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Statzer was also preceded in death by a sister, Bea Rose; and a brother, Paul Chafin.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Chafin, Tim Statzer, Tony Statzer, Robbie Hicks, Kevin Hicks, Greg Horne, Jacob Shortt, Wayne Chafin, Elmo Warner Jr. and Phillip Statzer.
Russell County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marie B. Street

ROWE, Va. -- Funeral services for Marie Nuckles Blankenship Street will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Ancil Childress and Jerry Harman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.
Mrs. Street, 73, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in a Richlands hospital.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Taylor

JONESVILLE -- A memorial service for Robert Allen "Bobby" Taylor will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Rev. Gary Lyons will officiate.
Mr. Taylor, 41, formerly of Jewell Ridge, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at the home of his mother in Jewell Ridge.
Friends may call two hours before the service Saturday in Hurst-Scott Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Lee County Special Education Fund for "Blake's Dad," 5 Park St., Jonesville, VA 24263.

Carl Ray Warren Sr.

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Carl Ray Warren Sr. will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Leonard Smith, Fred Parker and Jonathan Jonas will officiate. Burial will be in Knollkreg Memorial Park.
Mr. Warren Sr., 84, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be grandson Rob Edwards; nephews Glenn Turley, Wayne Turley, Mark Moses and Frank Blair; and friends Jeff O'Quinn, Greg Roark and Bill Coalson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Hawkins, Earl O'Quinn, Curtis Junior Warren, Mike Warren, Harold Warren, Roger Cunningham, Millard Cunningham, Johnnie Warren, Roscoe "Dick" Warren, Jim Vance, Lee Pierce, Sammy Campbell, Clyde Wise, Gene Wise, Dean Roark, Bill Boyd, Gene Cunningham, Ernie Roark and Robert Brannon; nephews Eddie Jonas, George Shrader, Randy Bordwine, Lewis Tuggle, David Tuggle, Charles Tuggle, Curtis Tuggle, Donnie Eastridge, Matt Branson, Alan Branson, Steve Branson and Marty Smith; and Dr. Andrew Rhinehart, Dr. Willis Moody, Dr. Forrest Swan Jr., Dr. Ellison Conrad, Dr. Scott Shaffer, Dr. Fred Kellog and men of Carvosso United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Carvosso United Methodist Church, 19429 Rustic Lane, Abingdon, VA 24210, or to the American Alzheimer's Foundation, 207 N. Boone St., Johnson City, TN 37604.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian D. Brown

Lillian Mae Davis Brown, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol.
She was a lifelong resident of Dover, Del., a daughter of the late Edna and George Davis, and the widow of George Brown.
She was retired from Leeds Travelware in Clayton, Del.
Surviving are three daughters, including Mildred Daniels of Bristol; six sons; 21 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
The body has been transferred to Torbett Funeral home in Dover.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.

Nancy Grizzle

CASTLEWOOD -- Nancy Grizzle, 45, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
She was a daughter of the late Hettie Grizzle and a member of Riverside Baptist Church in St. Paul.
She was a former dispatcher for the Castlewood Rescue Squad.
Surviving are three sisters, Jean Dollarhyde and Minnie Grizzle, both of St. Paul, and Jennifer Helbert of Castlewood; three brothers, Billy Grizzle of St. Paul and Calvin Grizzle and Jewell Grizzle, both of Castlewood; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Riverside Baptist Church, River Road, Castlewood, by Castlewood Funeral Home. The Rev. John A. Kiser will officiate. Burial will be in Kiser Cemetery in Carbo, Va.
Pallbearers will be Mitchell McReynolds, Scottie Williams, Doug Lawson, Jeff Chandler and Calvin Dwayne Grizzle. Honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Dwight Bailey.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Riverside Baptist Church.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Grundon

CROSSVILLE, Tenn. -- Stanley Earl Grundon, 70, of Dooley St., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Cumberland Medical Center.
He was born in St. Clair County, Mo., a son of the late Carl and Leta Carson Grundon.
He was retired from the U.S. Army, serving 23 years. He was a master sergeant in the Armored Infantry Division during the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Woodrum Grundon; four daughters, Mary Sanders and Peg Grundon, both of Nashville, Anne Grundon of Bristol Virginia and Elizabeth Grundon of Crossville; a son, William Grundon of Crossville; two sisters, Martha Grundon of Euless, Texas, and Gwen Coleman of Sherman, Texas; three brothers, Donald Grundon and Harold Grundon, both of Centralia, Ill., and Charles Grundon of Derby, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Burial will be in Crossville City Cemetery. The Rev. Patrick Brownell will officiate.
Mr. Grundon was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Grundon; and a brother, Carl Grundon Jr.
Pallbearers will be members of The Knights of Columbus.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in Bilbrey Funeral Home, where a Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Alphonsus Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Bilbrey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Emmett Hall

Funeral services for William Emmett Hall will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home chapel. The Revs. Kyle Barr and Bill Goforth will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Hall, 94, of 2165 Sixth St., Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Bristol Nursing Home in Bristol, Va.
Pallbearers will be Hugh Stover, Nathan Stover, Granville Wolfe, Kenneth Harr, Raymond Perry, Richard Leonard, Billy Newton and Dan Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be a special friend, Nat Whitlock, other friends and neighbors and Dr. David Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. prior to the service Sunday in Akard Funeral Home.

Julia D. Herndon

McCLURE, Va. -- Julia Desmond Herndon, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in a Richlands hospital.
She was born in Wise, a daughter of the late William Edward Desmond and Nancy Carolyn Carico Desmond of Coeburn, and was a lifelong resident of McClure. She was a graduate of Bristol Business College.
She was the widow of Kenneth V. Herndon Sr., and she and her late husband were owners of McClure Lumber Co. She was a member of McClure Methodist Church, where she served as secretary, treasurer and pianist for many years.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth V. Herndon Jr. of Richmond and Fred P. Herndon of Big Stone Gap, Va.; a brother, Joe Desmond of Winchester, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 11 a.m. in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood by Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff. The Rev. Ronnie Mutter will officiate.
Mrs. Herndon was also preceded in death by a son, Joe E. Herndon; two brothers, Bill Desmond and Harold Desmond; and three sisters, Elfred Sexton, Lucy Gravely and Sarah Catron.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to McClure Methodist Church, P.O. Box 237, Clintwood, VA 24228.
Singleton Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond D. Hess

HONAKER -- Raymond Dallas Hess, 70, of Dogwood Street, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in a Johnson City hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Honaker, a son of the late Dave and Minnie Eaton Hess, and was a member of Honaker Church of God.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a prisoner of war for over 33 months. He was the recipient of several awards including the Purple Heart.
He was a former employee of Russell Manufacturing and Norfolk & Western Railroad, served several terms on the Honaker Town Council and was a Little League baseball coach.
He was the widower of Nadine Stoots Hess.
Surviving are a son, Kempler Hess of Lebanon; two sisters, Martha Smith and Palace Fields, both of Honaker; two brothers, the Rev. Harless Hess and Jerry Hess, both of Honaker; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Larry Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon with military graveside honors by VFW Post 9640 of Richlands and DAV Chapter 31 of Tazewell County, Va.
Mr. Hess, an avid sports fan, was also preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law, Sherry Hess of Lebanon; and grandchildren, Ta Sheena Hess and Jonathan Hess, both of Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Alex Hess, Stevie Hess, Jared Clark, Darrell Stoots, Heath Dye, Ronnie Coleman, Terry Snead, Paige Stoots, T.J. Massie and Robbie Compton. Honorary pallbearers will be J.B. Crabtree, Bill Stinson, Millard Cook, Emory Street, David Hart and Marvin Farmer.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday in Honaker Funeral Home.
