Rita F. Boockholdt
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Rita Fortin Boockholdt, 77, died Aug. 30, 1999.
Formerly of Camden, N.C., Mrs. Boockholdt was born in Auburn, Maine, to the late Raoul and Lillian Lebrun Fortin. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Elizabeth City, N.C., and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fleet Reserve, Unit 293. She was the widow of Quinton Boockholdt. She retired as a supervisory budget analyst from the Norfolk Naval Air Station after 30 years of government service.
She is survived by a daughter, Nita B. Suggs of Virginia Beach; a son, John Boockholdt of Abilene, Texas; two sisters, Marie Jane Carbonneau and Gloria Bilier, both of Auburn, Maine; a brother, Leo Fortin of Lewiston, Maine; and two grandchildren, Brian S. Boockholdt of Abilene and Ilene Holden of Virginia Beach.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, by Father James Ditty. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary H. Brown
SUFFOLK -- Mary Higgins Brown, 96, died Aug. 31, 1999.
A native of Crittenden, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Oliver and John Francis Higgins, and the widow of William Edward Brown. She is survived by her sister, Frances Higgins Darden of Crittenden and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mount Zion Cemetery by brethren Steve Detwiler and John Harris. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home is in charge.
Oise R. Allen Sr.
SURRY COUNTY -- Oise Ray .Allen Sr., 61, of Spring Grove, died Aug. 30, 1999, at his home. He owned and operated Ray Allen Electric Co. and was an active member of Salisbury Hunt Club in Surry.
Mr. Allen's survivors include his wife, Josephina M. Allen; two sons; and three daughters.
A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. The family will receive friends after the service. Burial will be private.
Clarence B. Neblett
WAVERLY -- Clarence Byron .Neblett, 68, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at his residence in Waverly. A native of Sussex County, he was a son of the late Benjamin C. Neblett Sr. and Electa Bevard Neblett. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Neblett is survived by his nephews, David Earl Neblett of Hopewell, Gary Francis Neblett of Prince George and Russell Wayne Neblett of Suffolk; a sister-in-law, Rosalind Rose Neblett of Disputanta; and several great-nephews and great-nieces.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. Ron Sowers. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

ELIZABETH CITY -- Carl Richard Walker Sr., 72, of the 600 block of Alton St., died Aug. 30, 1999. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. today at Cleveland Memorial Park, Shelby, N.C. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge.
James A. Hales
BOYDTON -- James A. Hales, 77, passed away Aug. 28, 1999, in the hospital, after a long illness.
He served in the Coast Guard in World War II and retired from the Naval Air Station.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda N. Hales; a son, James A. Hales Jr. and his wife, Donna; sons, James A. Hales Jr. and his wife, Donna, and David Bryan Hales; grandson, Mitchell Hales; and stepgranddaughter, Jillian.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 3, at Bethesda Baptist Church, Boydton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethesda Baptist Church, 1614 Buggs Island Road, Boydton, VA 23917.
Marjorie G. Moody
RICHMOND -- Marjorie Grim Moody, 77, formerly of Norfolk and the widow of Thomas E. Moody, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Moody Ladd and son-in-law, James G. Ladd, and her granddaughter, Erin Courtney Ladd, all of Richmond; and her sister, Virginia G. Bussey of Chapel Hill, N.C.
Mrs. Moody was an active member and Sunday School teacher at River Road Church, Baptist, in Richmond. She had served as secretary to the pastor at Park Place Baptist Church in Norfolk for 26 years.
Her remains rest at West Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, W. Broad Street Road, Glen Allen, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at River Road Church, Baptist, in Richmond. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River Road Church, Baptist.
Katherine K. Murphy
CREWE -- Katherine Irene Kelly Murphy, 86, widow of J. Berman Murphy, passed from this life Aug. 30, 1999.
Born in Crewe, Dec. 28, 1912, she and Berman moved to Norfolk in 1960, where they were active members of St. John's United Methodist Church. Kate and Berman were married in Crewe on Sept. 17, 1932, sharing that marriage for 58 years until Berman's death in 1990.
She is survived by her sons, John B. Murphy Jr. of Nellysford, and Robert S. Murphy of Glen Allen; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sarah Maxey and Barbara Neblett of Richmond, and Christine Bowden of Victoria; and a brother, Charles Kelly of Crewe.
Her remains rest at the Parham Chapel Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday with interment at 2 p.m. at Crewe Cemetery. The family asks that memorial gifts be sent to either the Crewe United Methodist Church, Crewe, or to St. John's United Methodist Church, Norfolk.

RICHMOND -- Emma Cunningham White, 91, formerly of Onley, died Aug. 29, 1999. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Holly Cemetery, Onancock. Williams-Onancock Funeral Home is in charge.
Thelma B. Brennan
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Thelma Baker Brennan, 72, a nurse, died July 13, 1999, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.
She attended Robert E. Lee Elementary School and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth where she leaves friends who will miss her.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Fred Brennan; son, Tom; grandson, William; and brothers and sisters.
