Ocie M. Largin
Ocie Mae Largin, 74, of 1133 Wray St., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born May 3, 1930, in Patrick County to Ada Vaughan Cooper. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a son, Sam W. Largin Jr., and a sister, Josephine Hairston.
She was a seamstress at American Furniture Co. for 23 years.
Surviving are her husband, Sam W. Largin Sr. of the home; a son, Alvin Bernard Largin of Martinsville; three daughters, Machelia Largin of Washington, D.C., and Regina Largin and Ondia ReneeĠ Largin, both of Martinsville; and two sisters, Jean Dones and Mavis Kent, both of Martinsville.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Hairston Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Dr. Eric Hairston will officiate. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Katie T. Little
Katie Thelma Little, 74, of 7295 Axton Road, Axton, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.
Surviving are her husband, Claude Little of the home; a son, Charles O Keefe Little; five daughters, Susan Alfreda Scales, Valerie Libby Hale and Katie Marie Little, Claudeen Pokie Little and Robin Denise Little; a sister, Rosetta Bunch Smith; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Axton. Burial will be in the Little family cemetery.
Perry Spencer Funeral Homes of Eden is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary H. Scales
Mary Frances Hairston Scales, 83, of 924 Boden St., Martinsville, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at her home.
She was born Feb. 15, 1921, in Martinsville to Lunie Flood and Gracie Hairston Lunnerman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Ann Hairston.
She retired from Hooker Furniture Corp. after 40 years of service. She was a member of Shiloh Way of the Cross Church where she sang in the adult choir, served as a missionary and on the usher board.
Surviving are two daughters, Delcenia Niblett and Jacqueline Harris, both of Martinsville.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Shiloh Way of the Cross Church. Bishop Earley Dillard will officiate. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for an hour before the service and at other times at the home.
Hines Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Gayle VanHaitsma
MCKEAN, Pa. -- Gayle Lackey VanHaitsma, 57, of McKean, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at her home.
She was born in Collinsville, Va., on April 15, 1947 to Hartley Lackey of Collinsville and Marie Peters Lackey, deceased.
She graduated from Fieldale-Collinsville High School and Patrick Henry Community College. She was president of DV Services, a petroleum service equipment company in McKean.
Surviving in addition to her father are her husband of 23 years, Dan VanHaitsma; two brothers, Allen Lackey of Martinsville, Va., and Darryl Lackey of Collinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. today at Burton West Lake Funeral Home, 3816 West Lake Road, Erie. The Rev. Steve Rosendahl will officiate. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from noon until time for the funeral today.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2115 West 38th St., Erie, Pa. 16508.

Louise H. Arrington
Louise Hollandsworth Arrington, 73, of 530 Reed Creek Drive, Bassett, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born May 24, 1931, in Franklin County, to James Issac Hollandsworth and Minnie Lou Gibson Hollandsworth. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Faith Arrington on June 23; two sisters, Eula Cannaday and Loleen Holley; and two brothers, Curtis Hollandsworth and Seth Hollandsworth.
She was a 1948 graduate of Henry High School and had worked at Jessup Furniture Co., Regent Industries and Bassett Chair Co.
She was a member of the Woodmen of the World Court No. 388, Collinsville, where she had served in all offices. She was a past chief of Fairystone Temple Pythian Sisters of Bassett and was a charter member of Thomasson Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Charles T. Arrington Sr. of the home; two sons, Taylor Arrington of Ferrum and Brandon S. Arrington of the home; and two sisters, Della Gardner of Snow Creek and Goldie Martin of Collinsville.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Collins Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Doby Salmons officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Benjamin B. Clifton
A funeral for Benjamin Bailey Clifton, 95, of the Blue Ridge Rehab Center and formerly of Ridgeway, who died Nov. 29, 2004, was held Thursday at Christian View Pentecostal Holiness Church in Stoneville, N.C. The Revs. Rick Wilkie and Delmar Scotton officiated. Burial followed in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway with military honors by the Martinsville/Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. The flag presentation was made by Sgt. Jude Holman and Sgt. Wanda Morgan of the 7th Brigade, 80th Division, Army Reserve Unit in Salem.
Pallbearers were Danny Easter, Darryl Leake, Roy Kallam, Clifton "Cliff" Williams, Clyde Coleman, Benton Joyce, Henry Cox and Eddie Levi.
McKee-Stone Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
Georgia U. Griffith
George Mae Underwood Griffith, 87, of Stuart, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuart.
She was born in Floyd County on May 16, 1917, to Aaron Underwood and Lucinda Ellen Radford Underwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Denzer James Griffith; a daughter, Florence Irene Griffith Cockram; and three grandchildren, Michael Ray Griffith, Billy Paul Vipperman and Roger Eugene Griffith.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Vipperman of Mount Airy, N.C., and Linda Martin of Stuart; seven sons, Junior Griffith, Howard Griffith, James D. Griffith and Raymond Griffith, all of Mount Airy, Wayne Griffith of Ararat, and David Griffith and Kenneth Griffith, both of Stuart; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Curtis Hall officiating. Burial will be in Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Virginia Hill
Virginia Hill, 91, of Beverly Health Care Center, Martinsville, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at the center.
Arrangements will be announced by Hairston Funeral Home.

James H. Johnson
A funeral for James Henry Johnson, 75, of Spencer, who died Dec. 1, 2004, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home in Martinsville. Elders Richard Martin and Leon Gravely will officiate. Burial will be in the Pearl Johnson family cemetery at Spencer.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. today, and other times at the home at 2494 Penn Store Road, Spencer.
Johnson was born on Sept. 8, 1929, in Henry County, to Preston Johnson and Pearl Martin Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Lee Warington, Annie Sue Watkins and Maggie Bell Penn; and two brothers, Charlie P. Johnson and John Robert Johnson.
He worked as a helicopter assembler for Textron Co. for 14 years.
Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia Scott of Hickory, N.C.; a son, David Henry Johnson of Hickory; a brother, Bernard Johnson of Spencer; two sisters, Mammie J. Scales and Catherine Johnson, both of Martinsville; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
