MOSS
Mr. Rudolph Moss, 74, of Skippers, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Emma Jean Moss; one son, Wayne Moss; two daughters, Barbara Jean Sasser and Amy Sopko; six grandchildren, Casey Taylor, Brandy Sasser, Eric Moss, Brent Moss, Amanda Sopko and Tara Moss; two great-grandchildren, Blade Taylor and Logan Taylor; one brother, Willard Moss; three sisters, Mary Alice Jones, Bernice Tomlinson and Lee Floyd. The family will receive friends at the residence. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Zion Baptist Church of Skippers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice Support Group of Southside Virginia, 412 Ingleside Ave., Emporia, Va. 23847.

PARKER
Dr. James Walter Parker, 68, of Walnut Hill Farm, Cumberland, Va., died on Friday, June 1, 2002. Dr. Parker was a retired Virginia Commonwealth University Theater professor. He is survived by his daughter, Sarah Parker Southall; and his friend, Robert Winthrop. Also surviving him is his son-in-law, Walter Delbert Southall Jr.; his nieces, Debora Richardson, Cynthia Thompson and Sherri Moore; his aunts, Estelle Holmes, Sarah Jenkins, Virginia Newman, Gladys Loan and Annie Crowder; and his uncle, Walter Wright. He also leaves behind a number of devoted students and colleagues from his 45 years of teaching. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Clay Parker; and his parents, James Alec and Naomi Parker. His grandparents were Walter Elijah Nashe Wright and Annie Josephine Smith Wright; Charles Edward Parker and Annie Blanche Davis Parker. He received his BA from Longwood College, his Masters Degree from the University of Virginia, and his Ph.D. in Theater from CUNY. He served as a professor at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. from 1957-1975, an Associate Professor at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. from 1975-1977, and as a full Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., from 1977-1999. At VCU, he wrote, administered, and directed the Theatre graduate studies program. He served on the University's Graduate Council as well as on the Executive Committee of the American Association of University Professors, where he served as President from 1993-1994. He was a member of the Southeastern Theatre Conference, the Virginia Theatre Association, the American Theatre in Higher Education Association, the American Association of University Professors, and the Actors Association of America. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Richmond, Va., from 1977 to 2002. He became a member of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church of Farmville, Va., in 2002. The family will receive friends Monday, 7 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 11 a.m. to 12 Noon at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Johns Memorial Episcopal Church. Interment will be at Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery. POOLE
Emma Davidson "Pete" Poole, widow of Rev. C. Knox Poole of Richmond, died on Saturday, June 1, 2002. She is survived by her niece, Anne Davidson Carwile; and two nephews, Robert L. Davidson Jr. and William S. Davidson; several great-nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of Ginter Park Presbyterian Church. Graveside services will be held Monday, June 3, 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

PRINCE
Herman Lee Prince, Jr. "Rooster", 40, of Emporia, died Saturday, June 1, 2002. He is survived by three sons, Daniel Prince, Jonathan Prince and Justin Prince; his parents, Herman Lee and Laura E. Prince and one brother, Tommy C. Prince, Sr. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt where the funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 with interment to follow at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

PULTZ
Margaret Harrison Pultz, age 71, of Buena Vista, died Friday, May 31, 2002 in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. Mrs. Pultz was born in Rockbridge County, a daughter of Mable Hatcher Harrison of Natural Bridge Station, and the late Baxter Alexander Harrison. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, and preceded in death by a son, Daryl Pultz. Surviving are her husband, C. Wilbur Pultz; three children, Deborah P. Wilson of Plano, Texas, Donna P. Sensabaugh of Chesterfield, and David Pultz of Baton Rouge, La.; three sisters, Helen H. Bullock of Natural Bridge Station, Gladys H. Duff of Stuarts Draft, and Martha H. Sorrells of Buena Vista; two brothers, Hughie W. Harrison of Lexington, and James H. Harrison of Excel, Ala.; three grandchildren, Kendall Pultz, Hillary Sensabaugh and Morgan Sensabaugh. Graveside will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, with the Rev. Mark Reuter officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, Va.

SMITH
Alfred Littlefield Smith Jr., 56, of Richmond, died May 29, 2002. He was a graduate of St. Christopher's School and Virginia military Institute, and received his J.D. from the University of Richmond and L.L.M. from New York University. He served as a First Lieutenant in Vietnam in the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment. Mr. Smith was a law professor in the School of Business at Virginia Commonwealth University and a partner with the Law Offices of Saunders, Cary and Patterson. Mr. Smith was a longtime VHSL football official. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Commonwealth Club and The Country Club of Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Hallie Darby Smith; his son, Alfred Littlefield Smith III; his daughter, Allison Smith Heverin and her husband, Timothy; and two aunts, Mrs. John Smith of Lyman, Maine and Mrs. J. Paul Wyatt. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6004 Three Chopt Rd. SMITH
Emmett Smith Jr., age 71, of Richmond, died May 31, 2002. He was the widower of Kate J. Smith. He is survived by two sons, Emmett Smith III of Philadelphia, Pa., and James H. Jones of Hyattesville, Md.; his mother, Florine J. Smith; one grandchild, Katrina R. Jones of Hyattesville; two brothers, Robert Smith of Richmond, and Rubin Smith of New York; two sisters, Phyllis Brandon and Emily V. Green of Philadelphia, Pa.; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; one daughter-in-law, Sarah Jones of Hyattesville; two brothers-in-law, Morven Barley of Amelia, and Nathaniel Birch of Washington, D.C.; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Smith of Richmond, and Lillian Barley of Amelia; other relatives and friends, among them a very devoted friend, Shirley A. Carpenter. Mr. Smith was the former owner of Lewis Furniture, 19 W. Broad St., Richmond, for 24 years. He retired from Lewis Furniture in 1995. His remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Wednesday, 10 a.m. at Triumphant Baptist Church, 2003 Lamb Ave., where funeral services will be held 11 a.m., with Pastor Dr. Arthur M. Jones officiating. Entombment Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

SPURLIN
Ms. Kay Powell Spurlin, 57, of Gasburg, Va., formerly of Richmond, Va., passed Friday, May 31, 2002. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Maude Powell; and a sister, Daphne Thompson. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Stewart and her husband, Philip of Richmond, and Kristi Meyer and her husband, Matthew of Southern Pines, N.C.; three grandchildren, Tyler, Hayden, and Bailey Stewart; special care giver and friend, Margie Harrison; beloved pets Mitzi and Lucy. Ms. Spurlin was retired from the U.S. Postal Service with over 25 years of service. She was a master sergeant with the 80th Division (IT), United States Army Reserve for 24 years. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. Family will receive friends Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held 7 p.m Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the funeral home. Interment private. Florence H. Moore Strasser, 85, of Chester, widow of William Walter Strasser, died Friday, May 31, 2002. She is survived by two sons, Lloyd M. Strasser and William W. (Buddy) Strasser; two daughters, Barbara J. Skumatz and Carolyn A. Rathbone; four grandchildren, Gerald, Daniel and Jeffrey Silk and W.T. Strasser; six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Strasser was retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Chesterfield Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. WILMOTH
Tad A. Wilmoth, 47, of Midlothian, died Thursday, May 30, 2002. He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace Wilmoth. He is survived by his wife, Deborah; son, Jason Scott Wilmoth; father, Thomas A. Wilmoth; brother, Terry and his wife, Trudy; and his in-laws, the Richardson family. Tad retired from the Henrico County Police Dept. and later worked as an investigator for Marks & Harrison. He was a member of the Henrico County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4 and a member of Midlothian Masonic Lodge #211, Scottish Rite. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends after 1 p.m. Sunday and all day Monday, with a Masonic service to be held 7 p.m. Monday, and where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Services will be conducted by Pastor Clarence (Whitey) Davis and Chris Newcomb. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Henrico FOP, Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center or Oak Forest Baptist Church Youth Ministry.

WRIGHT
Martha Andrews Wright, 92, formerly of Blair Rd., Petersburg, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 in Charlottesville, Va. She was the widow of Dr. Fletcher Johnson Wright Jr. Mrs. Wright was a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing, a member of First Baptist Church, life member of the Cockade Garden Club, charter member of the Southside Regional Medical Center Guild, charter member of the Historic Blandford Cemetery Foundation and was a member of the DAR. Survivors are a son, Fletcher Johnson Wright III of Scottsville, Va.; daughter, Anne Wright Steele and husband, Edouard Besson Steele of Raleigh, N.C.; granddaughters, Anne Linehan Steele of Pinehurst, N.C., and Susan Steele Grady of Kinston, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Ned Thomas Grady III and Julia Wright Grady of Kinston, N.C. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Blandford Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Lawyer Turner Smith dies

Turner Taliaferro Smith Sr. led a varied life that took him to the Middle East, and finally back to Washington where he was born in 1912.
Mr. Smith, 89, earned a bachelor of science degree in commerce from the University of Virginia in 1934 and later earned a law degree from George Washington University.
During World War II, Mr. Smith served with the OSS, a predecessor of the CIA, and later returned to government service as a foreign service officer in Turkey and Mexico.
In 1960, Mr. Smith set up a private practice in Manassas, where he served as town attorney for 27 years, also representing the town of Haymarket during most of that time.
He served on the board of directors of Stuart Hall, a residential school for girls in Staunton, and he was an adviser and board member during the establishment of WETA, a prominent public television station in Washington.
Mr. Smith was the widower of Lois Fisk, to whom he was married for 50 years until her death, and of Mary Harrover Ayers Ferguson, whose union lasted nearly a decade until her death.
He is survived by his son, Turner Taliaferro Smith Jr. of Middleburg; and his daughters, Glenore Fisk Smith of Manassas, Jaquelin Smith Gorlieb of Stone Mountain, Ga., Josephine Pendleton Smith Strickler of Richmond, and Emily Taliaferro Smith Rappold of Fairfax.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6760 Fayette St. in Haymarket. Burial will be private.
