Jean Helena Duncan

Jean Helena Duncan, 69, of Dublin, formerly of Wythe County, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1996, in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Grubb Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor Joe Shumate. Interment followed in the West End cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Laura Stoots Duncan.

She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Frank Ferguson of Southern Pines, N.C., and Alma and Buddy Massey of Burlington, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Evelyn Duncan of Crockett; and several nieces and nephews.

The Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Treva Sue Burnette Harris

Treva Sue Burnette Harris, 53, formerly of Carroll County, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, in the Gulf Port (Miss.) Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel in Austinville with the Rev. Berlin Hanks officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove cemetery.

She was born in Carroll County a daughter of the late Emmett Wesley and Alta Coulson Hanks Burnette. She graduated from Woodlawn High School, and was a member of the First Christian Church of Gulfport.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Belle Burnette; and a half-brother, Ubert Hanks.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy H. Harris of the home; three sons, Brian Griffen of Spring, Texas, Charles Griffen of Arlington, Texas, and Randy Harris of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Burnette, and Rev. Berlin and Opal Hanks, all of Snow Creek; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Reese Funeral Home.

Reese Funeral Home in Austinville is in charge of the arrangements.

Hensel Wandel Jackson

Hensel Wandel Jackson, 75, of Bracey, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1996, in Community Memorial Healthcenter.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home in South Hill. Interment was held at 2 p.m. in Merchants Hope cemetery in Prince George.

Formerly of Max Meadows, he was the son of the late Author "Red" Jackson and the late Annie Martin of Max Meadows. He was a retired millwright for Allied Chemical Corp.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie "Patty" Mabe Jackson; a son, Terry Jackson, of Hopewell; and several cousins in Wythe County.

Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home in South Hill was in charge of the arrangements.

James Wesley Pemberton

James Wesley "Jimmy" Pemberton, 71, of Rocky Gap, died Monday, Nov. 25, 1996, at his residence.

Graveside funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Monte Vista cemetery in Bluefield, W.Va.

He was the son of the late Clarence N. and Estella Pemberton.

He is survived by his sister Bonnie Bird of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews.

The Newberry Funeral Home in Bland was in charge of the arrangements.

Howard Brooks Reynolds Sr.

Howard Brooks Reynolds Sr., 86, of Austinville, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. at the Austinville Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Joe Harrison, the Rev. Gary Cope and the Rev. Ray Humphries officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church cemetery.

He was born in Pulaski County, a son of the late Ewell Branson Sr. and Maude Coleman Reynolds. He was retired from the Millwald Barber Shop, and was a member of the Austinville Pentecostal Holiness church where he served as deacon for many years.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul Reynolds, Ewell Reynolds, Nick Reynolds, and Deck Reynolds; and three sisters, Emma Archer, Sue Akers, and Mattie Shelton.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Nellie Kirby Reynolds, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and C.R. Taylor of Max Meadows; three sons and daughters-in-law, Howard Jr. and Audrey Reynolds of Route 3, Wytheville, Jimmy and Rosa Lee Reynolds of Max Meadows, and Robert and Faye Reynolds of Austinville; four sisters, Ethel Crockett of Max Meadows, Rachel Cline, Kathryn Thompson, both of Wytheville, and Dorothy Richenbacher of Manheim, Pa.; two brothers, Eldridge Reynolds of Austinville, and Billy Reynolds of Max Meadows; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Austinville Pentecostal Holiness Church or at the resident at any time.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorial contributions to the Lead Mines Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 502, Austinville, Va. 24312.

Margaret Davis Andrews

Margaret Davis Andrews, 58, of Durham, N.C., died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996, at her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. in Triangle Presbyterian Church, Durham, N.C., with the Rev. Ray Cobb and Rev. Haywood Holderness officiating.

She was born in Max Meadows, a daughter of the late William Dickey Davis and Margaret Heuser Davis. A Durham, N.C., resident since 1978, she had been employed by Umstead State Park. She was a member of Triangle Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Charles L. Andrews; two sons, Robert Andrews of Durham, N.C., and Barry Andrews of Creedmoor, N.C.; her sister, Lucy Zell of St. Simons, Ga.; and four grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Triangle Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 5001 Tudor Place, Durham, N.C., 27713.

Stewart Herbert Brunk

Stewart Herbert Brunk, 68, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, in the Highland Manor Nursing Home in Dublin.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m. at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Sproule officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View cemetery in Rural Retreat.

He was born in Wythe County, a son of the late Charles Neal and Nellie Mae Davis Brunk.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Hackler Brunk of the home; one son, Charles Brunk of York, S.C.; one stepdaughter, Pam Wagner of Independence; four sisters, Edna Cregger of Wytheville, Nadine Bowles of Bassett, Virginia Napier of Centerline, Mich., and Ina Mae Hamlin of Trinity, N.C.; one brother, Daniel Brunk of Lynchburg; one grandson, Corey Brunk; one stepgrandson, Stacey Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services.

Virginia Dare Smith Crowder

Virginia Dare Smith Crowder, 76, of Richmond, formerly of Wytheville, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996, in Westminster Canterbury.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Wytheville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael Wingard and Rev. Dr. Thomas Sproule. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery.

She was born in Kingsport, Tenn., a daughter of the late Willard M. and Willie Dare Patterson Smith and was an active member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Newton Crowder.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Iralin and Stephen Peple of Richmond; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Karl and Karla Crowder of Huntsville, Ala., Gary Douglas Crowder of Roanoke, and JoAnne Crowder of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Edwin Allen Crowder, Thomas Conrad Crowder, Charles Newton Crowder, Shannon Michelle Crowder, Cortney Loraine Crowder, Kelly Nichole Crowder, Stephen Gustave Peple Jr., and John Brian Peple; a sister, Jane Washington of Richmond; and two brothers, Willard M. Smith Jr. of Roanoke, and Elbert Earl Smith of Lake Lure, N.C.

The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

The family suggests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Wytheville Presbyterian Church or to the Westminster Canterbury Fellowship Fund, 1600 W. Brook Avenue, Richmond, Va. 23227.

Helen Ruzie Pack

Helen Ruzie Pack, 90, of Wytheville, Va., died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, in Asbury Center at Birdmont, Wytheville, Va.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home Chapel, Wytheville, Va. Interment will follow in the West End cemetery, Wytheville, Va.

She was born in Cripple Creek, Va., a daughter of the late John Stuart and Annie Lottie Wolfe Littreal. She was a member of the Cripple Creek Church of God of Prophecy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Theodore Pack; a son, Phillip Pack; three brothers and four sisters.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Terrence Maxwell and Polly Lucinda Pack of Route 3, Wytheville, Va., and Jene Douglas and Patsy Mozelle Pack of Jarrettsville, Md.; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home.

Lois Tickle Deckleman

Lois Tickle Deckleman, 60, of Maryland died Friday, July 12, 2002.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 19, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, Va., with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating.

She was born in Bland County, Va., a daughter of the late Eugene and Pinkie Pickle. She was of the United Methodist faith and had made her home in Maryland for the past 30 years.

Survivors include two brothers, Lewis "Mick" Tickle of Bland, Va., and Dan C. Tickle of Pulaski, Va.

Gladys Eleanor Kincer

Gladys Eleanor Kincer, 83, of Wytheville, Va., died Sunday, July 7, 2002.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 10, at 8 p.m. in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Kevin Fiorini. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 11, at 11 a.m. in the West End cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Lillie Cassell Kincer.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 10, from 7 to 8 p.m. (service time) at the Grubb Funeral home

Mildred Sue Tickle Green

Mildred Sue "Maw" Tickle Green, 78, of Bland County, Va., died Sunday, July 14, 2002.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at the Bland cemetery in Bland, Va., with the Rev. Lee McIntosh officiating.

She was born March 25, 1924, in Bland County, Va., a daughter of the late Lemuel and Ida Tickle. A lifelong resident of Bland County, Va., she was of the United Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Green; and one son, Greg Green.

Survivors include one son, Charles G. Tickle of Danville, Va.; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Tony, both of Danville, Va.; two brothers, Kent Tickle and Wayne Tickle, both of Bland, Va.; and one sister, Mabel Tickle of Bland, Va..
