Kimberly M. Hale

Kimberly Michelle Hale, 19, of Swords Creek, and her stillborn son, Caleb Joshua Hess, died April 13, 2004 in a Bristol, TN, hospital.

Born Nov. 12, 1984, she was a daughter of Douglas Hale of Honaker and Judy Ann Alexander Charles of Priest Fork.

She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended Honaker Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandmother, Nellie B. Corns, and paternal grandfather, James "Buke" Hale.

Additional survivors: fiancé, Joshua Allan Hess of Swords Creek; stepfather, Ralph Charles of Priest Fork; sisters, Aletha Hale and Tiffany Lynn Hale, both of Honaker; brother, Justin Allen Hale of Priest Fork; paternal grandmother, Margaret Virginia Hale of Honaker; maternal grandparents, Jay Albert and Loraine Gilbert Alexander of Aberdeen, MD; nephew, Logan Shane Hale; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral was conducted April 17 at 2 p.m. in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel at Honaker with Rev. Tommy Dye and Pastor Larry Brooks officiating.

Interment followed in the Corns cemetery at Lynn Springs.

Sallie M. Hankins

Sallie Mae Lambert Hankins, 78, of North Tazewell, died April 14, 2004 at Tazewell Community Hospital.

Born in Tazewell, she was a daughter of the late Warner Lee Lambert and Addie Josephine Lambert.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Addie Louise Hankins; two sisters, Louise and Jackie; and one brother, Robert Lee.

Survivors: husband, Charlie W. Hankins; daughters, Vickie Phillips and husband, Ron, of Radford, Connie Petty and husband, William, of Deland, FL, Mary Jane Justice and husband, James, of North Tazewell; stepson, Charles Hankins, Jr. and wife, Lorraine, of Texas; sister, Elizabeth Brown of Catlin, IL; grandchildren, Sonya Carr and husband, Terry, Suzanne Gunter and husband, Gary, Ranae’ Byrd and husband, Sanders, William Petty, Jr. and wife, Trish, and Wayne Yost, Jr. and wife, Tessa; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. April 17 at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA, with the Rev. Don Elswick officiating.

Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell was in charge of arrangements.

Floyd "PeeWee" Howington

Floyd "PeeWee" Howington, 79, of Pounding Mill, died April 17, 2004 at a Tazewell hospital.

Born in Russell County, he was the son of the late Conley and Tokia Casteel Howington.

He was a disabled coal miner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dallas Howington; one sister, Lorraine Wedlund; two brothers, Bill and Pete Howington; and a special cousin, Joe Casteel.

Survivors: the family with whom he resided with for over 39 years, Velvie Shortridge, Marie Shortridge and Anna Mae Pack, all of Pounding Mill; sister, Betty Marie Harman of Iowa; children, Wayne Howington, Judy Davies, Darrell (Smitty) Howington, Monte Howington and Loretta Cline, all of Ohio; special daughter-in-law, Brenda Howington of Florida; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted April 19 at noon in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff was in charge of arrangements.

Allie G. King

Allie Grey King, 67, of Bluefield, VA, and formerly from Winchester, died April 11, 2004 at her home.

Born in Bluefield, VA, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Whitten Rolen and Mary Leola Crabtree Rolen.

She was a member of the Bluefield, VA, Church of God.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Whitten Rolen.

Survivors: husband, John W. King, Sr.; daughter, Margie Roy and husband, Michael, of Winchester; sons, John King, Jr. of Winchester, Brian King and wife, Christina, of Gore; grandchildren, Ericka Barnes and husband, David, of Slainsville, WV, Matthew Roy and Felicia King of Winchester, Kristopher King, Cody King and Corey King, all of Gore; great-grandchildren, Hunter Barnes and Anthony Barnes; sisters, Lois Spangler of Gilmer, TX, Magaline Brown of Kansas City, MO, Virginia Ruth Rose of Bluefield, WV, Shirley Layne of Winchester; and brothers, James Rolen of Bluefield, VA, and Robert Rolen of Sparta, NC.

The funeral was conducted April 14 at 11 a.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA, with the Rev. Tony Ellis officiating.

Burial followed in the Grandview Memory Gardens.

McKinley "Mac" Lewis

McKinley "Mac" Lewis, 56, of Bluefield, VA, died April 3, 2004 in a Bluefield, WV, hospital.

Born April 29, 1947, in Bluefield, VA, he was the son of the late David William McKinley Lewis and Wornie Vestil Lewis.

He worked for the Clear Water Co. of Bluefield, VA, and the Pure Water Co. of Bluefield, VA.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Johnson Lewis and David Crockett Lewis.

Survivors: loving companion of 18 years, Deborah Gremore; stepson, Brian Gremore and wife, of Bluefield, WV; stepdaughters, Becky Smith of Clovis, CA, Angela Wright and husband of Pocahontas; brothers, Robert Lewis of Whitewood, Alvin "Sqeak" Lewis, Jeff Lewis, Charlie Lewis and Melvin Lewis, all of Bluefield, VA; sisters, Rachel Roaten of Bluefield, VA, Nora Britt of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted April 6 at Dudley Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. with Dr. Kenneth Powell officiating.

Burial followed at Maple Hill cemetery in Bluefield, VA.

William J. "Willie" Linkous

William "Willie" Jacob Linkous, 18, of the Baptist Valley area in North Tazewell, died April 13, 2004 at his home.

Born April 25, 1985 in Tazewell, he was a son of Joseph D. and Estelle Goodson Linkous of Baptist Valley.

He was a third year student in Auto Mechanics at Tazewell County Career and Technical Center where he focused his natural talent in mechanics. He enjoyed the great outdoors with fishing, deer hunting, ginseng crops, hiking, four wheeling and had a kind heart toward animals. He had a good sense of humor; he loved practical jokes, and always had good manners. He was loved by all and will be missed immensely.

Additional survivors: daughter, McKenzie Ann Linkous and her mother, Amy Sparks, of Tazewell; sister, Christina Fawn Davis and husband, William Eugene Davis, of Gordonsville; grandmother, Sarilda Linkous of North Tazewell; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. April 17 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Don Elswick officiating.

Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA.

James R. Newman

James Ray Newman, 72, of Richlands, died April 14, 2004 in a Richlands hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Bruce and Nannie Lawson Newman, both Tazewell County residents.

He had made his home in the Richlands area most of her life and was retired from the S&S/Ingersoll Rand Corporation at Claypool Hill. He was a member of the Richlands Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Richlands High School. He was a member of UMWA Local #1737 at Castlewood and was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister.

Survivors: wife, Gladys Whitaker Newman; sons, Bruce, Brian and James; step-daughter, Wilma Barton of Abingdon; step-son, Curtis Whitaker of Richlands; sisters, Helen Vance of Dayton, OH, Betty Dye of Manassas; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three step- great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted April 16 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Bill McDaniel officiating.

Interment followed at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 and Tazewell County Chapter #31 DAV conducted military graveside rites.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Richlands Presbyterian Church Building Fund, PO Box 446, Richlands, VA 24641.

John Lee Reardon

John Lee Reardon, 67, of Colonial Heights, died April 11, 2004 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg.

Born in Lexington, he was a son of the late John Joseph Reardon and Elizabeth Reardon Tyree.

He was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children who died in infancy, Belinda Lee Reardon and Dennis Lee Reardon.

Survivors: wife, Jo Ann Reardon; sons, John Joseph Reardon and Mark Shane Reardon, both of Roanoke, Michael Shawn Reardon of Colonial Heights; daughter, Regina Lee Mitchell and husband, Travis, of Roanoke; step-children, Gail Steele and husband, Randy, of North Tazewell, Jeffrey Sawyers and wife, Norma, of Goose Creek, SC; and grandchildren, Adam, Justin, Leah, Joshua, James, Chance and Trinity.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. April 15 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with the Rev. Jim Horn officiating.

Burial followed at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA, where military graveside rites were conducted by members of the Barns Beavers VFW Post #7136 of Tazewell.

The Rev. Roy R. Baldwin

The Rev. Roy R. Baldwin, 95, of Hawks Heights Subdivision, North Tazewell, died April 12, 2004 at his home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell.

Ted Perry Davis

Ted Perry Davis, 85, of Raven, died April 11, 2004 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Thomas Perry and Mary Elizabeth Webb Davis.

He was a retired coal operator.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Alfred Davis, three brothers and seven sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Survivors: wife of 63 years, Ocie Sisk Davis; daughters, Jerlene Matney and husband, Carless, Nancy Rose, and Patsy Cline and husband, Melvin, all of Rt. 1 Raven, Monell Breedlove and husband, Lawrence, of Cedar Bluff; son, Lloyd Davis and wife, Rita, of Pounding Mill; grandchildren, Leo Matney, Richard Rose, Tessie Vandyke, Cindy Cline, Lora Osborne, Julie Shelton and T.J. Davis; and great-grandchildren, Ali Smith and Dillon Smith.

The funeral will be conducted April 14 at 2 p.m. at Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel in Keen Mountain with Rev. Carl Ball and Rev. Eddie Wilson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Davis cemetery at Davis Mountain.
