Brenda J. Sisk, 59, died Jan. 31, 2006 in Barberton, OH.

She was born Dec. 14, 1946 in Buchanan.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charlie G. Sisk.

Survivors: children, Donnie (Gina) Bishop, Dan (Lula) Bishop, David (Beth) Bishop and Derrick (Linda) Bishop; grandchildren, Donnie III, Mitch, Natasha, Jessica, Erica, Josh and Carlie; great-grandchildren, Victoria Paige and Tanner; mother, Janie K. Sisk; brothers, Keith Sisk and Charles Kim Sisk; sisters, Lynda Sisk Hale, Jennifer Sisk Friend, and Charline Sisk Henderhan; and many special nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. at Cox Funeral Home in Barberton.

Burial was Feb. 4 at the Davis cemetery in Richlands.

Mettie Jane Sullivan

Mettie Jane Sullivan, 65, of Honaker, died Feb. 1, 2006 at her home.

Born Oct. 16, 1940 in Dickenson County, she was a daughter of the late Silas and Ethel Murdock Deel.

She had spent most of her life in the area and was a member of the Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Lee Sullivan, one brother, Claude Deel, and two infant sisters.

Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Gerald Stevens of Honaker; sons, Billy Sullivan and wife, Tammy, of Big Stone Gap, Jeffery Stanley Sullivan and wife, Beckie, of Council, Michael Sullivan and fiancée, Connie, of Rosedale; sisters, Edith Sykes, and Irene Boyd, both of Council, Gaynell O’Quinn of Bee, Goldie Gilbert of Vinton, OH, Martha Presley of Richmond; brothers, Cecil Deel and Glenn Deel, both of Vansant, Arville Deel of Council; grandchildren, Amy Clear, Benjamin Sullivan, Jared Sullivan, and Jordan Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Tyler Clear and Jude Clear; honorary grandchildren, Jason Hess and Misty Hess; honorary great-grandchild, Baileigh Hale; and special friend, Ira Lowe.

The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Virgil Musick and Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating.

Interment followed in the Sullivan cemetery at Bee.

Wilmer "Bud" Sword

Wilmer Burke "Bud" Sword, 59, of Afton, died Feb. 1, 2006 in University of Virginia Medical Center at Charlottesville.

Born March 23, 1946 in Lebanon, he was a son of Charlie Burke Sword of Honaker and the late June Elizabeth Justice Sword.

Additional survivors: wife, Delores Ann Sword; daughter, Glenda Sue of Charlottesville; son, David Burke Sword of Manassas; sisters, Shirley Farley and husband, Ronald, of Woodbridge, Sylvia Jean Kennedy and husband, Jim, Linda Cottingham and husband, Frank, and Gail Compton and husband, Roger, all of Honaker; brother, Ronald Lee Sword and wife, Linda, of Dale City; and two grandchildren, Travis and Austin.

Memorial services were conducted at 1 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Trinity Pentecostal Church in Lebanon with Rev. David Wilmoth officiating.

Elizabeth Jane Toney

Elizabeth Jane Toney, 81, of the Adria area in North Tazewell, died Jan. 31, 2006 at Tazewell Community Hospital.

Born Aug. 29, 1924 in Tazewell, she was a daughter of the late Millard and Mattie Jane Boothe Thompson.

Mrs. Toney and her husband, V. E. Toney were the co-founders of Toney’s Market of Adria, which began business in 1945.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, V. E. Toney, and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors: sons, Roger Toney and wife, Lana, Eugene Toney and wife, Donna, and Curtis Toney, all of North Tazewell; daughters, Linda Hayes and husband, Ronnie, of Statesville, NC, Diane Sawyers and husband, Richard, of North Tazewell; sister, Rosa Pruett of Tazewell; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Feb. 2 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell with Minister Adam Toney officiating.

Burial followed at Maplewood cemetery in Tazewell.

Fred (Butch) Waddell

Fred B. (Butch) Waddell, 72, of Woodhaven and a native of Tazewell, went to heaven to be with his loving wife Ginny, Jan. 25, 2006, after long suffering and by God’s amazing grace. He died at home surrounded by his loving family.

He often spoke of his friends and family in the Tazewell community and always considered this his home.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ginny, his parents, Etha Gray and C.W. Waddell, four brothers, Tommy, Roy, Lawrence and Lacy Waddell, two sisters, Ethel Vencil and Janice Altizer, all of the Tazewell community.

Survivors: son, Michael, daughter-in-law, Gina, daughter Kim, grandson, Lance and granddaughter, Kelly Waddell of Woodhaven, MI, and sister, Nellie Manganello of Crofton, MD.

Services were held from John Molnar Funeral Home, Brownstown Chapel.

Angie Viola White

Angie Viola C. White, 88, of Bluefield, VA, died Jan. 18, 2006 at her home due to a long illness.

Born in Bluefield, she was a daughter of the late Jessie C. Crutchfield and Jenny Lou Peery Crutchfield.

She and her husband, Theodore White, were owners and operators of Graham Floral and Virginia Ann Jewelry having started the business in 1946 and was also a member of the Brushfork Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore E. White.

Survivors: daughters, Virginia M. Steele and husband, George, of Lebanon, Teddy Ann Gearhart and husband, Charles, of Bluefield, VA; grandsons, Teddy R. Steele and wife, Sandy, of Tazewell, David P. Steele and wife, Carolyn, of Lebanon, Charlie Brown Gearhart and wife, Becky, of Bluefield, VA; great grandchildren, Brian and Becky Tinsley, Chelsa and Matt Whittaker, Eric and Lindsey Steele, Travis Steele, Ashley Steele, Victoria and Christian Gearheart; great great grandchildren, Madison, Preston and Ellie Steele, Abigale and Mallory Whittaker and Jackson Tinsley; half sisters, Jean Dehart and Lonnie Sue Miller; devoted caregivers, Carol Walker; and beloved grandson, Charlie Brown Gearheart.

The funeral was conducted Jan. 21 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA with Rev. George Stamper officiating.

Burial followed in the Grandview Memory Gardens.

Donations may be made to the St. Judes Hospital or to the Shriner’s Hospital.

Ettie Irene Whited

Irene Whited, 81, of Bluefield, VA, died Jan. 18, 2006 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Born June 6, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Howie and Lucy Coeburn.

She was a homemaker. She was a devoted wife of the late Garnet Whited, devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Brushfork Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garnet Whited, two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors: sons, Wade Whited of Bluefield, VA, William Whited and wife, Peggy, and Larry Whited and wife, Debbie, all of Bluefield, WV; daughters, Ellen Rutledge of North Tazewell, Alice Greene and husband, Walter, of Stanfield, NC, Wanda Burton of Bastian, Judy Bailey and husband, Donnie, of Princeton, WV; grandchildren, David Whited, BJ Whited, Billy Greene, Angie Barbe, Teresa Lewis and Josh Hale; great grandchildren, Zach Sayers, Cody Sayers, Cortni Sayers, Alyssa Whited, Tristan Whited, Juliana Whited and Ryan Stamper; great great grandchildren, Landon Sayers and Josiah Honaker; sister, Frances Neal of Bluefield, WV; brother, Hobert Coeburn of Lockport, IL; and very special friends, Marion Blackwell and Destiny Stephney of Bluefield, WV.

The funeral was conducted Jan. 21 at 12 noon at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, VA with Rev. Danny Scott and Rev. Barry Fleming officiating.

Burial followed in the Grandview Memory Gardens.

Annie M. Barnes

Annie M. Barnes, 69, of Midwest City, OK, died Jan. 25, 2006 in Midwest City.

She was born to Malcom and Fannie Deel Yates Sept. 24, 1936 at Harmon.

She married Paul Barnes on April 7, 1972 in Topeka, KS, and moved to Midwest City in 1976 previously living in Germany. She retired as a civil service employee at Tinker AFB. She was a member of the Spencer Road Freewill Baptist Church and was very involved with the church activities. She did volunteer work for the Midwest Regional Hospital in Midwest City and enjoyed gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Larry Wayne Swiney, and one brother.

Survivors: husband, Paul Barnes; daughter, Sherry Barnes of Midwest City; sons, Rick Swiney of Canton, OH, Paul D. Barnes of Austin, TX, John H. Barnes of St. James, MO; sisters, Shirley Burwell of Dover, OH, Lillian Rose of Cedar Bluff, Bonnie Browning of Guam; brothers, Bobby Yates of Berlin Center, OH, Ferlie Yates of Newton Falls, OH, Johnny Yates and Mickey Yates, both of Cedar Bluff; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be conducted Feb. 1.

Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff is in charge of arrangements.

Carles Eldern Bond, Sr.

Carles Eldern Bond, Sr., 66, of the Lynn Springs section of Swords Creek, went to be with our Lord Jan. 29, 2006 at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born Mar. 27, 1939 in Buchanan County, he was a son of the late Henry Jefferson Bond and Margie Pearl Vance Bond.

He was a lifelong resident of the Buchanan and Russell county areas. He was a disabled and retired coal miner, having been employed at Page Fork Coal Company. He attended Outreach Temple in Honaker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer Bond, Remas Bond, Jessie Bond, James Bond, and Parly Bond.

Survivors: wife of 46 years, Melda June Coleman Bond; sons, Carles Bond, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Swords Creek, Ernest Bond and wife, Michelle, of Honaker; daughters, Rita Bond Cordle and husband, Rick, Christine Bond Cordle and husband, Danny, and Eula May Bond Keene and husband, Scotty, all of Buchanan County, Sue Bond Meadows of Hansonville; sister, Elsie Bond Stiltner of Page; brothers, Roy Bond of Page, Walter Vance of Abingdon; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Arvil Arwood and Rev. Michael Justice officiating.

Interment will follow in the Essau-Rife cemetery on Keen Mountain.

Friends may call at the funeral home at any time prior to the funeral hour.

Douglas James Casey

Douglas James Casey, 56, of Richlands, died Jan. 27, 2006 in Raven following a brief illness.

Born in Richlands, he was a son of the late Albert and Bessie Ward Casey, both former residents of the Richlands area.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ at Seaboard and was a lifelong resident of Richlands.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Purvis and Molly Casey; three brothers, Elvin, Charlie and Curtis Casey; and one grandson, Zachary Casey.

Survivors: wife, Stella Barnes Casey; daughters, Kimberly Casey, of Richlands, Melissa Cordle and husband, Mose, of Raven; sons, Douglas A. Casey and wife, Angel, James A. Casey and wife, Lora, and Billy J. Casey and wife, Brandi, all of Richlands, Jamie Gillespie of Bristol, TN; sisters, Mary Osborne and husband, Arlin, of Clifton Fork, Barbara Casey of Doran, Louise Turner of Martinsville; brothers, Alvin Casey of Richlands, Norman Casey of Cedar Bluff, Delmar McClain and wife, Minnie, of Belfast; and 11 grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Sister Elsie Burke and Brother Elmer Lee Burke officiating.

Interment followed in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill.

Betty Jean Caudill

Betty Jean Caudill, 58, of Honaker, died Jan. 25, 2006 at her home.

Born Oct. 29, 1947 in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Jessee James Ratliff and Sally Mindy Shortt Ratliff.

She had spent most of her life in the area and was a member of the Church of the Living God in Honaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Stevie Allen Caudill; one brother, Donald Ratliff; and one sister, Elsie Brown.

Survivors: husband, Boliver Caudill; sons, Scottie Dean Caudill and Boliver Daniel Caudill, both of Honaker; daughter, Stephanie Rouse of Abingdon; grandchildren, Brandy Caudill, Katlyn Caudill, Amy Caudill, and Aaron Caudill, all of Honaker; sisters, Draper Farmer, Sue Ann Hart, and Eula Gay Suits, all of Honaker, Mable Stacy of Richlands; brothers, Luther Ratliff, Dealdon Ratliff, and Willard Ratliff, all of Honaker; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Arnold Street and Rev. Hershel Farmer officiating.

Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.

Lena Eddie Combs

Lena Eddie Shell Combs, 92, of the Finney section of Honaker, died Jan. 27, 2006 in a Kingsport, TN, hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1913 in Finney, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Ella Taylor Shell.

A lifelong resident of the Finney area, she was a member of the Independence Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Franklin Combs; two brothers, Henry Shell and Lester Shell; and three grandsons, Charlie White, Mark Jackson and Russell Combs. In her generation, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Survivors: daughters, Ann Ruth Jackson and husband, Glen, of Blackstone, Mary Sue Luce and husband, Charles, of Arkansas, Victoria Ellen Combs of Abingdon, Sarah Elizabeth Burnett of Roanoke; sons, John Russell Combs and wife, Janie, of Cleveland, Archie Thomas Combs and wife, Margaret, of Lebanon, Ronald Lee Combs and wife, Donna, of Honaker; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Jan 29 in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Jacob Musick and Rev. Chris Musick officiating.

Interment followed in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
