Blanch Catherine Fortune Burruss

Blanch Catherine Fortune Burruss, 95, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday September 7, 2004 at Guggenheimer Nursing Facility. She was the widow of William Edmond Burruss.

Born November 16, 1908 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late John Wilmer Fortune and the late Nellie Bell Meyer Fortune, in addition, a daughter, Joyce Burruss Watts preceded her in death.

Mrs. Burruss was a life long member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Marjorie Myers of Lynchburg; a granddaughter, Mary Catherine Watts of Covington, GA; a grandson, James Edward Watts of Roanoke; a great-granddaughter, Angela Schroder of Lynchburg; and a great-great-granddaughter, Celeste Schroder also of Lynchburg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday September 10, 2004 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. James D. Newman officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lynchburg Unit, 2316 Atherholt Road, Suite 108, Lynchburg, VA 24501

Whitten Park Ave. Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Evelyn Harvey Hamilton

Evelyn Harvey Hamilton, 83 of Madison Heights, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2004, at the Medical Care Center. Mrs. Hamilton had also been a resident at Johnson Senior Center in Amherst for four years where she had been well taken care of. She was the wife of the late James Finley Hamilton “Joe”, who passed away July 11, 1982.

Born August 18, 1921, in Campbell County, she was a daughter of the late William Burton Harvey and Addie Harvey.

Mrs. Hamilton was also preceded in death by two brothers; Walton Harvey and William Harvey and three sisters; Dorothy H. Hunter, Annie H. Scott and Kathleen H. Lee.

Survivors include three children; Eleanor H. Deacon and husband Frank of Nacogdoches, TX, Jo Ann H. Ayers and husband Doug of Lynchburg and J.B. Hamilton and wife Robbie of Madison Heights, four grandchildren; Frankie Deacon, Tracie Deacon, Danny Ayers and Heather Hewes and husband Martin, one great grandchild, Zacharie Hewes, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at Whitten Monelison Chapel with the Reverend Robert J. Gillispie officiating. Interment will take place in Virginia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Delores Jane Mason

Mrs. Delores Jane Mason, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord peacefully Saturday, January 14, 2006. She was the daughter of the late William Elmer and Stella Francis Loveless of Ohio. She was also preceded in death by a son. Danny Gene Mason.

She was born in Plains City, Ohio, on May 22, 1935. Jane was the loving and devoted wife of Gene A. Mason for 44 years.

Jane is survived by two sisters, Eloise and late husband Johnny Hileman, Carol and husband Chet Rinehart, one brother Bill and wife Helen Loveless of Ohio. Jane is survived by her five sons. Mark A. Moreland and wife Karen of Lynchburg, D. Kevin Moreland and wife Susan, grandson’s Brian and Chris Moreland of Lynchburg, David D. Moreland and wife Robin, grandson Jeremy and wife Kamlyn Moreland, great grandson, Evan, grandson Jordan and granddaughters Jennifer and JilliAn Moreland of Rustburg, Gene Michael Mason, grandchildren Danny and Danielle Mason of Lynch Station, D. Scott Moreland and wife Wanda, grandson’s Dennis, Jason and wife Stephanie Moreland, Grandaughter, Tiffany Scearce and husband Richard, great granddaughter Alexis. Jane is survived by three daughters, Lynnette Childress, granddaughter, Melissa and husband Phillip Godsey, great grandsons, Timmy and Ian of Appomattox. Sheree and husband Tony Noell of Lynchburg, grandson’s Keith and Jason and wife April, and great grandson, Blaze. Sandra Carter and husband Larry of Lynchburg, grandchildren, Christina and Jeffrey, numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many special friends.

Jane was a faithful member of Christian Chapel and currently served as Music Director, Pianist, Secretary and Treasurer. She was a member of the New Day Gospel Singers. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and steadfast Prayer Warrior. She will be sadly missed by her family.

Visitation for family and friends will be at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, Tuesday, 7- 8:30 pm and other times at the residence of 104 Wade Lane.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 pm, at Christian Chapel at 2347 Holiday Street, Lynchburg, VA.

Whitten Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Timberlake Chapel, 239-0331 is assisting the family with arrangements.

Calvin Earl Burch

Calvin Earl Burch, 74, of 338 Old Wright Shop Road, Madison Heights died Thursday, April 25, 2002 in Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband for 57 years of Edie McKinney Burch.

Calvin was born August 23, 1927 in Lynchburg, the son of Myrtle Roberts Burch and the late John W. Burch. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry, was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II and was a member of Sandy Bottom Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Lee Burch.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Glinda B. King and her husband, Steve and Pamela B. Williams and her husband, Scott; three grandchildren, Jamie Leigh Williams, Brian Williams and Mary King and two sisters, Darlene B. Coleman and Barbara B. Coleman all of Madison Heights.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Sandy Bottom Christian Church by the Rev. Jim Freeman. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitten Monelison Chapel and other times at the residence.

The family suggests memorials be made to Sandy Bottom Christian Church.

Raymond Earl Beard, Sr.

Raymond Earl Beard, Sr., 78, of Lynchburg, died Monday January 27, 2003 following a lengthly illness.

He was the beloved husband of Rosa Ramsey Beard for 52 years. Born July 26, 1924 in Amherst county, he was a son of the late Leslie L. Beard and Winnie Duff Beard; in addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Roger Earl and Tonie Allen Beard; two brothers, Clarence A. and Leslie L. "Junior" Beard; and two sisters, Alice B. Campbell and Frances B. Hamilton.

Mr. Beard retired from driving trucks with the Teamsters Union after 38 years service, he was a U.S. Army veteran and served with the Army reserves; he was also a member of Sandusky Baptist Church. Besides his wife Rosa, he is survived by one daughter, Darnelle B. Thompson;one son, Raymond E. " Ray" Beard, Jr., and wife Karen; one granddaughter, Wendy P. Wilmer and husband Eric; one grandson, Christopher L. Beard; one brother, Clyde W. Beard, all of Lynchburg; two sisters, Alma B. Oliver of Madison Heights and Helen B. Dees of California.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday January 30, 2003, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, by the Rev. Bobby Wood. Burial will follow in Allwood cemetery, Amherst County.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, (239-0331) and at other times at the residence.

Virginia Hall Chaney

Virginia Hall Chaney, 76, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2003.

She is survived by five children; Willie B. Hall, of Yanceyville, NC, Jimmy W. Hall, of Hope Valley, RI, Caroline Hall, of Danville, VA, Roy L. Hall, of Fort Saint Lucie, FL, and Patricia Hall, of Hope Valley, RI.

A graveside service will be conducted Friday, October 23, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. in Lynchburg City cemetery.

Whitten Park Avenue Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Francis L. Harris

Francis L. Harris, 70, of Lynchburg, passed away, Monday, September 6, 2004 at his residence. He was the husband of Laura Harris.

Born May 29, 1934 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Charles F. Harris and is survived by his mother, Katie Harris of Lynchburg.

Mr. Harris was retired from Myers and Rhodes Equipment Company.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Harris.

In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by a stepdaughter, LaWanda Byrd and husband Ray of Kingsport, TN, two step grandchildren, Vicky Byrd and Don Byrd, a step great granddaughter, Kelli Byrd and his loving dog Amy, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2004 at Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel and at other times at the residence.

Rosemary McGibbon

Rosemary McGibbon, 57 of Madison Heights, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004. She was the wife of Garth McGibbon.

Born June 21, 1947, in Royal, NC, she was a daughter of the late Owen and Mary Cooper Peele. Rosemary was a Chemistry teacher at Amherst County High School for 10 years.

In addition to her husband Garth, she is survived by two sons; Armand “Rasty” McGibbon and Averett McGibbon both of Madison Heights; two brothers; David Peele and wife Mary of Edenton, NC and Owen Peele of Aorora, NC, and a sister, Fay Peele also of Aurora, other realtives and many friends.

A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Terry Wornstaff. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in the Lakeview cemetery in Kirkfield, Ontario.

The family will also receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association or to the Gideon’s.

Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Monelison Chapel, is assisting the family.

Earl Richards

Earl Richards, 89, of Madison Heights died Saturday, February 16, 2002 at the residence of his daughter in Burlington, NC. He was the husband of Madileen Perry Richards for 63 years.

Earl was born January 30, 1913 in Franklin County, NC, the son of the late Robert R. Richards and Geneva Johnson Richards. He retired from Quality Foods and was a member of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Richards Herrald.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ann Richards Kidd of Burlington, NC; three grandchildren, Brandon Kidd of Burlington, NC, Teri Herrald of Des Moines, Iowa and Scott Jacober of St. Port Lucie, FL and one great grandson, Sebastian Jacober of St. Port Lucie, FL.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Fort Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. L. Grant Carter.

Frances Crawford Martin

Frances Crawford Martin, 73, of Madison Heights, passed away Friday, May 17, 2002 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Born in Amherst County, Virginia, July 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Crawford and Mandy Frances Martin Crawford. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Emmitt Carol Martin.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: two sons; Thomas E Bryant and his wife Patricia of Rustburg and Donald L. Bryant and his wife Gloria of Evington, four adopted children; David Martin, William “Billy” Martin, Betty Longest and Hazel Martin, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and was especially loved by Kayla and Jenna. She is also survived by: two brothers; M. Eddie Crawford and William M. Crawford both of Lynchburg and by two sisters; Myrene C. Staton of Lynchburg and Shirley C. Freeman of Madison Heights.

She was preceded in death by: two sisters; Bethal White and Cora Mitchell.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2002 at Whitten Park Avenue Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the family home at 149 Kentmore Farm Road, Madison Heights.

Alma Dickens Webb

Alma Dickens Webb, formerly of Lynchburg, died Sunday March 23, 2003 in Rochester, NY.

She was the wife of the late Denver P. Webb.

Surviving are her children:James and Bobbie Webb; Carole Jane Webb; Maryann Webb; Betty and Curt Hampton;William and Diana Webb; Rose and Mark Morris; Carl and Donna Webb; Roger and Della Webb; two sisters; three brothers; many grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday March 28, 2003 in Spring Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter Rose E. Morris, 1052 Oakmont Circle.

Expressions of sympathy can be made to a charity of choice in Alma's memory.

Whitten Timberlake Chapel is assisting the family with services.

Eva Ragland Camron

Eva Ragland Camron, 91, of Madison Heights, died Monday, September 27, 2004.

She was the wife of the late Theron Norman Camron.

Born July 19, 1913 in Madison Heights, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lewis and Elizabeth Raikes Ragland. Mrs. Camron was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Elbert, Robert, and Charlie Ragland.

Mrs. Camron is survived by one daughter, Carol C. Bledsoe and her husband, Ted of Winston-Salem, NC; one sister, Irene R. Millner of Madison Heights; two granddaughters, Janet McMehan and her husband, Mason of Denver, NC and Elizabeth Salzman and her husband, Scott of Huntersville, NC and two great grandchildren, Adam McMehan and Sydney Salzman.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2004 at Whitten Monelison Chapel by the Rev. Wayne Meredith. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
