Curtis Petty

Curtis Carl Petty, 414 Franklin Turnpike, died Saturday, April 20, 1996, in Duke University Medical Center of Durham, N.C.
Born April 12, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Lee Andrew Petty Sr. and Rebecca Thomas Petty.
He was married to Gladys Daily Petty of Richmond.
He was a member of East New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as financial secretary and trustee.
He was also a member of Omega Psi Fraternity.
He was a retiree of the Danville Public School System in 1994, where he was employed as a special education teacher for more than 30 years. He was also employed by Bliss Jewelers.
Survivors include one daughter, Tia Petty of Richmond; and four sisters, Mary Flanagan of Philadelphia, and Alease Brooks, Ruth Cobbs, and Barbara Jones, all of Danville.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home by the Rev. Samuel Walton. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home.

Barbara Pruitt

Barbara Jean Gross Pruitt, 57, 268 Hurt St., Chatham, died Monday, April 22, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born May 23, 1938, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of James Lonell Gross and Ruby Bowen Gross.
She was married to Jesse W. Pruitt, who survives.
She was a member of Samuel Harris Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Wanda P. Allen of Chatham; one son, Jesse W. Pruitt Jr. of Chatham; one sister, Gladys Saunders of Gretna; three brothers, Maxie Gross Sr. of Chatham, Jimmy Gross of Danville and Rocky Bowen of Maybank, Texas; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of Scott Funeral Home in Chatham by the Rev. R.G. Rowland and the Rev. Albert Moser. Interment will be at Hillcrest Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:00 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Paul Reynolds Sr.

Paul DeLeon Reynolds Sr., 95, formerly of 824 N. Main St., died Sunday, April 21, 1996, in Riverside Health Care Center, after a decline in health of the past 11/2 years.
Born Oct. 15, 1900, he was a son of R.E. Reynolds and Myrtle Barbour Reynolds.
He had lived most of his life in Danville, where he was the founder and owner of Reynolds Appliance & Furniture Co.
He was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church, where he served as a past deacon.
He was also a member of the Ramah Masonic Lodge and the Danville Scottish Rite Bodies, KCCH and Acca Temple Shrine.
He was married to Elizabeth Lewis Reynolds on June 14, 1924. She died Feb. 12, 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Paul D. Reynolds Jr. and Rufus W. Reynolds, both of Danville; one daughter, Phyllis R. Wooden of Providence, N.C.; one brother, Luke Reynolds of Danville; one sister, Myrtle Reynolds of Danville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one son, Maynard Lewis Reynolds.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mountain View cemetery by the Rev. Michael Campbell, where graveside rites will be conducted by Ramah Masonic Lodge #70.
The family will receive friends 7-8:00 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, North Main Chapel.

Grace Spencer

FREDERICKSBURG - Grace Nuckols Spencer, 101, of Manassas and formerly of Chatham, died Monday, April 22, 1996, in the Fredericksburg Nursing Home.
Born June 3, 1894, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of George A. Nuckols and Susan Giles Nuckols.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Dewey Spencer.
She was a member of Chatham Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice S. George of Manassas; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday from Scott Funeral Home by the Rev. Michael Macon. Interment will be in Chatham Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7-8:00 tonight at Scott Funeral Home, in Chatham.

Clifton Dunn

A graveside service for Clifton "Clip" Dunn, Dover, Del., will be held 2 p.m. today in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Paul Johnson of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church.
He died Jan. 31, 1996, and was cremated.
He was born Jan. 28, 1919, in Danville.
He was employed as a plumber and pipefitter until his retirement.
He was married to Elvin Rodden Dunn, who survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Bonnie Wiley and Julie Dugger; two sisters, Susie Andrews and Frances Fredrick; one brother, Frank Dunn; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at 154 Fairmont Circle following the service.

Lorraine Dunn

GOOCHLAND - Lorraine Blair Dunn, 69, of Goochland, died Monday, April 22, 1996, in her residence.
She was born Jan. 11, 1927, in Chatham.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Dunn, and by her daughter, Letitia A. Adkins.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald C. Dunn, Dean A. Dunn, and Edward B. Dunn; two brothers, Bill Blair and Jimmy Blair; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Perkins Baptist Church. Burial will be in Westhampton Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 6-8:00 tonight at Norman Funeral Home in Goochland.

D.T. Elliott

DRY FORK - Dula Thomas "D.T." Elliott Jr., 72, 677 Tobacco Road, died Monday, April 22, 1996, in the Duke Medical Center, following three years of declining health.
Born Nov. 26, 1923, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Dula Thomas Elliott Sr. and Pearl Thomas Elliott.
He was married to Catherine Anderson Elliott, who survives.
While living his entire life in the Dry Fork community, he was employed by the Filter and Hydro Plant of Dan River Mills Inc. as an operator for 38 years, until his retirement.
He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, where he served on the board of the church.
He was also a member of American Legion Post 325.
During World War II, he served with the 101st Cavalry Unit of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Perry T. Elliott of the residence; one daughter, Kathy E. Clark of Rolesville, N.C.; four sisters, Louise E. Dix, Thelma E. Powell, and Lucy E. Jones, all of Danville, and Dorothy E. Green of Norfolk; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, by the Rev. Clay Knick. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens, with military honors by American Legion Post 325.
The family will receive friends at the residence, 677 Tobacco Road, on State Route 1071, off Route 41.

Alfred Gignac

PALOS HEIGHTS, ILL. - Alfred C. Gignac, 96, died Monday, April 22, 1996, in Palos Heights, Ill.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice M. Gignac, and by his second wife, Elinor Gignac.
Survivors include three sons, Robert, Roy, and Kenneth Gignac; 21 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 9 a.m. Friday from John Sheehy and Sons Funeral Home, in Palos Heights, Ill. Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Church, in Orland Park, Ill. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery, in Evergreen Park, Ill.
The family will receive friends 3-9:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Janie Goard

CHATHAM - Janie Ophelia Parker Goard, of Chatham, died Sunday, April 21, 1996, in Duke University Medical Center.
Born in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Mary Parker.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth R. Goard Sr., of Leavenworth, Kan.; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Corinth Christian Church by the Rev. Nathaniel Jones. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park, in Danville.
The remains will lie in state at the church until the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Cook and Minnis Funeral Home, in Altavista, is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Herndon

SAN DIEGO - Robert Edward Herndon, 44, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Mercy General Hospital in San Diego.
Born June 9, 1951, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Curtis J. Herndon, who survives, and Roberta Price Herndon.
He was married to Marie Herndon, who survives.
In addition to his wife and father, survivors include two sons, Rashed Herndon of San Diego, and Robert Herndon II, of Tacoma, Wash.; two step-sons, Anthony Herndon and Robbie Herndon, both of San Diego; five sisters, Katheleene Carter and Barbara Jones, both of Chatham, Va., Loretta Madison of Oxnard, Fay Jeffries and Cynthia James, both of Danville, Va.; and three brothers, Curtis Herndon, Clyde Herndon, and Tyrone Herndon, all of Dry Fork, Va.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. today from Guildfield Baptist Church by the Rev. Willard Smith. Burial will be in the Herndon Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his father, Route 1, Dry Fork.
Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Baby Kendrick

Joseph Gordon Kendrick, 13 months, Route 8, died Monday, April 22, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1995, in Charlottesville, he was a son of Brandon S. Dalton of Gretna, and Yvette Kendrick of the residence.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his step-mother, Brandy Dalton of Gretna; his step-father, Thomas R. Stuckert of the residence; maternal grandparents, Alicia Massey of Wirtz and Gerald Kendrick of Chatham; paternal grandparents, Jimmy and Deborah Dalton of Gretna; maternal great-grandparents, Ann Reynolds Ittner of Chesterfield, and Norman Kendrick of Penhook; paternal great-grandparents, Irene Younger of Chatham, and Lula Lee Dalton of Gretna; maternal great-great-grandparents, Katherine C. Reynolds of Chatham, and Edith Kendrick of Chatham; and paternal great-great-grandparents, Minnie Younger of Chatham, and James and Myrtle Harper of Gretna.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from Scott Funeral Home, in Chatham, by the Rev. Roy M. Parker. Burial will be in the Reynolds Family cemetery.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence, State Road 1523, off Mount Cross Road.
