Wiley Shelton

CHATHAM - Wiley Shelton, 78, of Route 3, Chatham, died Wednesday, May 22, 1996, in the Franklin County Memorial Hospital of Rocky Mount.
Born June 14, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Chest and Alice Allen Shelton.
He was predeceased by his wife, Janie Witcher Shelton.
He was last employed as a custodian with the Pittsylvania County School System. He was also a member of Watson Level Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Leroy Shelton of Rocky Mount, Rodger Shelton of Pittsburgh, and Thomas E. Shelton of Roanoke; one daughter, Nancy Adkins of Penhook; 16 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, in Gretna, by the Rev. Taylor Toliver. Burial will be in Watson Level Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 8-9 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of his daughter, Nancy Adkins, Route 2, Penhook.

Mary Stewart

Mary Bethel Stewart, 66, 101 Broadnax St., died Wednesday, May 15, 1996, in the Avante Nursing Home of Roanoke.
Born Feb. 6, 1930, in Danville, she was a daughter of John T. "Tommy" and Mary Harris Bethel, who survive.
She was a graduate of Langston High School and of Barbara Scotia College. She was a member of A.K.A. Sorority. She was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents of Danville, survivors include a daughter, Ann Solmon of Lagos, Nigeria, and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3:30 p.m. today from the chapel of L.H. Brooks and Bro. Funeral Home by the Rev. Haywood Gray. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Shirley Waller Sr.

Shirley Douglas "Duck" Waller Sr., 55, 214 Lansdale St., died Tuesday, May 21, 1996, in his residence.
Born Jan. 26, 1941, in Danville, he was a son of Josephine Waller.
He was married to Brenda Mae McCullough Waller, who survives.
He was educated in the Pittsylvania County School System, and was employed by the city of Danville until his retirement.
He was also a member of White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Dry Fork.
In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a son, Shirley Douglas "Spud" Waller Jr.; one brother, George W. Waller Sr.; and two sisters, Corina W. Glass and Annie W. Fitzgerald.
The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from the chapel of Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the residence.

Herman Wilson

A graveside service for Herman Casey Wilson, 60, 1224 North Main St., will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday from Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Jack Robertson.
He died Wednesday, May 22, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 24, 1935, in Danville, he was a son of Casey Herman Wilson and Geraldine Moore Wilson, who survives.
He was a self-employed plumber. He was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his mother of Danville, survivors include two daughters, Margaret Wilson and Donna Wilson, both of Danville; three sons, David Wilson, Herman Wilson and Casey Wayne Wilson, all of Danville; one sister, Elizabeth G. Weaver of Danville; four brothers, Kermit Wilson, Vernelle Wilson, Curtis Wilson and Steve Wilson, all of Danville; and five grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Marilyn Jeanette Wilson.
The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Barker Funeral Home, and other times at his mother's residence, 1027 Claiborne St.

Fannie Barbour

ROCKY MOUNT - Fannie Jackson Barbour, 82, of the Elder Care Nursing Home, died Friday, May 24, 1996, in the Franklin Memorial Hospital of Rocky Mount.
Born Dec. 1, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of William A. Jackson and Delia Nett Crane Jackson.
She was employed three years by Holmes College, where she also received her master's degree. She also taught English at Bible College.
She was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.
Survivors include three sisters, Lorene Manford of Kansas City, Mo., and Mary Cook and Ruth Warren, both of Danville.
She was predeceased by four sisters, Celeste Rigney, Elma Jackson, Virginia Ashby and Annie Jackson; and one brother, William Jackson.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Schoolfield cemetery by the Rev. Joe Beck. The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Barker Funeral Home.

Eilene Craft

Eilene Fields Craft, 77, 212 Nelson Ave., died Friday, May 24, 1996, in Morehead Memorial Hospital of Eden, N.C., following two years of declining health.
Born March 31, 1919, in Harland, Ky., she was a daughter of Jerry Fields and Betty Lawson Fields.
She was married to Joseph E. Craft Sr., who died Nov. 16, 1977.
While living in Danville since 1962, she was employed by Southern Mills as a supervisor, until her retirement. She was also a member of South Danville Church of Christ.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary C. Saunders of Virginia Beach and Margurette C. Roberson of Eden, N.C.; two sons, Harold G. Craft and Joseph E. Craft Sr., both of Danville; one brother, Gordon Fields of Maimisburg, Ohio; three sisters, Alma F. Smith and Margaret F. Tremble, both of Sergent, Ky., and Edna F. Leveridge of Clarksville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from South Danville Church of Christ by the Rev. Frank Fuller and the Rev. Robert Johnson. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence.

Isaac Davis

LONG ISLAND - Isaac Davis, 88, Route 1, Long Island, died Thursday, May 23, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 14, 1908, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of James and Laura Monroe Davis.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church. He was also a member of the True Friend of Charity Lodge in Mt. Airy.
He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Davis.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Tyler of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, in Gretna, by Bishop Milton Waller. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.

Willie Hayes

Willie Thomas Hayes, 5209 Old Richmond Road, died Wednesday, May 22, 1996, in the Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 22, 1940, in Danville, he was a son of Robert Holliness and Florcelia Harris Hayes.
He was married to Louise Waddell Hayes, who survives.
He was a member of Hope and Charity Church.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, James Thomas Branch of Richmond; one daughter, Nancy Carolyn Hairston of Danville; nine brothers, Robert Holliness Jr., Damon Holliness, Jerome Holliness, Willie Thomas Holliness, Franklin Holliness, Joey Holliness, Curtis Artist, and Edward Glass, and Ivory Harrison, all of Danville; two sisters, Violet Holliness and Mary Holliness, both of Danville; his stepmother, Viola Harrison of Danville, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday from Celestial Deliverance Holiness Church. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robbie McGregor

RINGGOLD - Robert Perry McGregor Jr., 24, 2725 Milton Highway, Ringgold, died Friday, May 24, 1996, following a tractor accident on Route 58 East.
Born March 9, 1972, in Danville, he was a son of Robert Perry McGregor Sr. and Carey Chaney McGregor, who survive.
On Oct. 23, 1993, he was married to Jeanette Crews McGregor, who survives.
He spent his entire life in Halifax and Pittsylvania counties, where he was a graduate of Dan River High School and Danville Community College.
He was employed as the general manager of Camper Care, on Route 58 East.
He attended Central Boulevard Church of God. He was also a member of the Dan River Anglers Association.
In addition to his wife of the residence, and his parents of Ringgold, survivors include his paternal grandmother, Bernice McGregor of Ringgold; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Chaney of Ringgold.
The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday from Central Boulevard Church of God by the Rev. John Meadows. Interment will be in Highland Burial Park.
The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel, and other times at the residence, 2725 Milton Highway, Ringgold, off Route 58 East.

Betty Shelton

HURT - Betty Terry Shelton, 62, 216 West Spencer Road, died Thursday, May 23, 1996, in Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born Aug. 30, 1933, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Ernest Linwood Terry Sr. and Eva Simmons Terry.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Marshall Shelton Sr.; and a brother, Ernest Linwood Terry Jr.
She was employed by Camelot Hall Nursing Home of Lynchburg. She was also a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Robert "Rusty" Shelton of Hurt; three brothers, Ray S. Terry of Danville, and Ryland D. Terry and Bill G. Terry, both of Blairs; two sisters, Doris T. Moss of Blairs and Edith T. Yeatts of Gretna; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 4 p.m. today from the chapel of Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, in Gretna, by the Rev. Robert Reese. Burial will be in the Shelton Family cemetery of Gretna.
The family will receive friends at the residence of her son, Robert "Rusty" Shelton, 217 Grove St., Hurt.

Dale Braniger

Myron Dale Braniger, 61, of 3309 Green Hill Drive, died Friday, May 24, 1996 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 4, 1935, in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of Edna Martha Braniger and John Oakley Braniger.
He was a former employee of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
In addition to his mother of the residence, survivors include a sister, Jane Tamson of Bunta Garden, Fla.
Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Akron.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. today and Monday at the residence, 3309 Green Hill Drive, in the Mount Hermon community.
Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Hudson

HALIFAX - Mary Riddle Hudson, 93, of Route 3, Halifax, died Friday, May 24, 1996, in Halifax Regional Hospital.
Born April 8, 1903, in Halifax County, she as a daughter of Richard Thomas Riddle and Mary Susan Barker Riddle.
She was married to Charlie Dabney Hudson Jr., who survives.
She was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.
She was an alumni of Blackstone College for Girls. She was a former Halifax County Public School teacher.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Jane H. Friend of Halifax; one son, C. Dabney Hudson III of Halifax; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. today at McKendree United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael J. Osborne and the Rev. Robert Johnston. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Powell Funeral Home, South Boston, is in charge of arrangements.
