RORRER
Jane Stacy Rorrer, 65, of Lexington, died Friday, September 27, 2002. Mrs. Rorrer was a former music teacher in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. She was also a publications designer for The Marshall Foundation in Lexington and worked for several years as a copy editor for The News-Gazette and for The Rockbridge Weekly. She volunteered for several years as music director for VMI Theater and as pianist for Randolph Street United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Union College in Barboursville, Ky., where she majored in music and German. She loved God, her family and friends and music. She is survived by her husband, Robert Wayne Rorrer Sr. of Lexington; daughters, Mollie R. Gore of Summerville, S.C., Robyn S. Puryear of Madison and Sarah F. Boileau of Berea, Ky.; and sons, Robert W. Rorrer Jr. of Berea, Ky., and W. Kirk Rorrer of Ventura, Calif.; four grandchildren; a sister, Rebecca A. Robbins of Richmond; two brothers, Millard H. Robbins Jr. of Manassas, Andrew D. Robbins of Pennington Gap; great aunts, Ida M. Stacy of Pennington Gap and Virginia L. Willey of Knoxville, Tenn.; great uncles, Edward M. Stacy, also of Pennington Gap, and Jack Stacy of Escondido, Calif. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, September 30, 2002 at Randolph Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington today, Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Randolph Street United Methodist Church, 118 S. Randolph St., Lexington, Va. 24450.

ROY
Douglas McKerrow Roy, age 48, a native of Garden City, N.Y., went to a better place on Thursday, September 19, 2002 in Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth M. and Evelyn Roy. Survivors include one brother, Rob Roy and his wife, Cindy; and two nephews, Randy and Kevin. Interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.

ROYSTER
Virginia Thompson Royster, 90, of Lynchburg, and formerly of Richmond, died Friday, September 27, 2002. She was the widow of Randolph L. Royster and was a retired dental assistant. Mrs. Royster is survived by a daughter, Jane R. Taurman and her husband, Bert of Lynchburg; a son, Dr. R. Lewis Royster Jr. and his wife, Susanne of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted in Lynchburg by Diuguid Wiggington Chapel, 434-385-8900.

STATON
Ann Eck Staton, 72, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002 in Tampa, Fla. A native of Richmond and a resident of Tampa since 1997, she retired from the state of Virginia in 1990. She is survived by her loving children, her daughter, Bonnie E. Lovell of Tampa, Fla.; and her son, Thomas M. Eck Jr. of Flowery Branch, Ga.; her grandchildren, Catherine Ann Hastings of Atlanta, Ga., D. Carter Hastings Jr. of Tampa, Fla. and Duncan L. Eck and Thomas M. Eck III of Flowery Branch, Ga. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 East Laburnum Ave. Interment private.

STELLS
Jewell P. Stells, 75, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2002. She was the widow of Melvin A. Stells and was preceded in death by two sisters, Glennie Maul and Shirley Kimball; and a brother, Raymond M. Pinkleton. She is survived by her sons, Rev. Stephen M. Stells and David M. Stells; sisters, Evelyn P. Green, Ruby P. Culliton and Delores P. Martin; brothers, Waverly and Hildreth Pinkleton; grandchildren, Barbara, Amy, Jonathan, David and Ashley. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the House of Prayer, 10500 Newby's Bridge Road. Her funeral service will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday at the church. George Lee (Scooter) Terry of Bruce St., Richmond, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, September 25, 2002. Survived by his sons, Webert, Robert and William Terry, all of Mecklenburg County, Va.; his mother, Emma Lee Terry; one sister, Vergie Bullock and husband, Gable; one brother, Anderson Terry and wife, Stephine; and eight grandchildren. VanGROESBECK
Kevin G. VanGroesbeck passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002. Kevin was 54. He is survived by his loving friend and partner, Stefani; his cherished children, daughters, Gina and Allison and a son, Brian; mother, Cecilia; and brother, Raymond; along with two grandchildren, Maia Faith and Brock. Kevin had lived in Richmond most of his life and was President of VanGroesbeck & Co. WILLHITE
Robert Vanatta Willhite, age 72, of Richmond, died Thursday, September 26, 2002. Mr. Willhite was born in Redfield, S.D. He graduated from the University of Iowa and went on to earn a Master's of Business degree from the University of Minnesota. A Korean War Navy veteran, Mr. Willhite began a business career with the Richmond branch of Owens-Illinois of Toledo, Ohio, and went on to become a partner with Richmond-based manufacturers agents and primary distributors, William R. Hill and Company for 32 years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of The Commonwealth Club, Farmington Country Club, and The Country Club of Virginia. Mr. Willhite is survived by his wife, Constance Carnes Willhite; a son, John Carnes Willhite; a daughter, Paige Willhite Woolwine; and three grandchildren, of Richmond. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229.

WILLIAMS
Mary Helen "Fighter" Williams, 71, departed this life September 24, 2002. She is survived by two daughters, Ms. Denise D. Booker and Ms. Algie R. Williams; son, Monte Williams; devoted friends, Timothy Booker and Ms. Fern Carter; granddaughter, Amber Nicole Williams; two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle McGill and Mrs. Willie Mae Yancey; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, 1 p.m. from Woodville Presbyterian Church, 1728 N. 28th St. Rev. Ronnie A. Jack Wayne Arnold, 77, died December 8, 2001 at McGuire Veterans Hospital. He is survived by one sister, Vernell B. Yates of Richmond; several nieces and nephews. Private family burial.

William "Billy" Mikhail Bouchier, age 19, was taken suddenly on December 7, 2001. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 69000 Hull Street Rd., and where funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m.

CHAPMAN
Margaret O. Chapman, age 91, died Sunday, December 9, 2001. She is survived by two nephews, Nelson L. Kennedy Sr. and Donald R. Traser; seven great-nephews and one great-niece. Miss Chapman was a longtime member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church (formerly Laurel Street Church), where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was retired from High's Ice Cream. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, in Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements by Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel.

COOPER
Robert Samuel Snead "Bobby" Cooper went home to be with the Lord while down on his knees one last time December 6, 2001. He was born December 19, 1937. He attended Virginia Randolph School and later graduated from Virginia State University, where he mastered the skill of plastering (dry wall mechanic). He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Cooper. He leaves to cherish his memory six daughters, Bobbette C. Davis, Jennifer C. Knight, devoted Karen R. Cooper, Daphne D. J. Cooper, Robyn L. Cooper, and Cherie C. Miles; 16 grandchildren, among them one devoted, Ricky Cooper; 10 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Alvera Cooper; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends, among them, one devoted friend, Eddie. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St., where the family will receive friends Tuesday, 7 to 8 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m., Rev. Melvin Williams officiating. Burial Oakwood Cemetery.

DUNNAVANT
Robert Lee Dunnavant, age 69, of Midlothian, died Sunday, December 9, 2001. Mr. Dunnavant was an employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation, Powhite Parkway Extension, and a retiree of the Richmond Times Dispatch Circulation Department. He is survived by his wife, Janet Harrell Dunnavant; and eight children, Mary Dunnavant Spears and husband, Mark, Kathy Lynn Dunnavant and her longtime companion, Andy Tinnell, Lee Dunnavant and husband, Roger Upchurch, Dana Dunnavant Jones and husband, Brian, D. Noelle Reekes and husband, Ron, Randall F. "Mickey" Moseley and wife, Lisa, Kyle L. Moseley and wife, Cindy, and Todd H. Moseley and wife, Samantha; eight grandchildren, "Pop Pop" to Colin Dean Herron, Keyan James Herron, Laura Ann Spears, "Bucky" to Addison Forrest Reekes, Logan Alexander Moseley, Sutton Dillard Reekes, Henley Marie Moseley, and Bailey Carter Moseley; sister, Jeannine D. Collins and husband, Clifford; and brother, Greer M. Dunnavant; three nieces, and three nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd. The funeral service will be private.

EWELL
Edgar Bell Ewell Jr., age 91, of Yorktown, Va., died Sunday, December 9, 2001. Mr. Ewell was born Deember 15, 1909 in Richmond. He graduated from Randolph Macon Academy in 1929 where he was Captain Adjutant. Moving to the Washington, D.C. area, he was a longtime resident of Alexandria and attended Strayer College. He joined the old National Bank of Washington, retiring as Assistant Vice President in 1971 after 42 years of service. Since 1976 he has resided at his current residence in Yorktown. Mr. Ewell was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Lucy Byrd Sutton Ewell of King and Queen County. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Young Ewell; daughter, Mary Steed Sutton Ewell of Saluda; son, Gregory Sutton Ewell and his wife, Jill; and granddaughters, Emily and Ellen all of Alexandria. The family will receive visitors at his home at 105 Sylvia Drive, Yorktown Tuesday evening (tonight) from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in Smyrna Christian Church, Bruington. Interment church cemetery. Arrangements by Bristow-Faulkner Funeral Home, Saluda. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Randolph Macon Academy c/o Col. HAMLET
John M. Hamlet, age 92, an attorney and former Charlottesville municipal Judge and later a Special Judge for the Commonwalth of Virginia, died December 9, 2001 at University of Virginia Hospital. Born August 28, 1909 in Charlotte County, he was the son of the late Dr. John M. Hamlet and Martha Elliott Hamlet. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lena Ann Wood Hamlet; and a daughter, Dr. Martha Ann Hamlet. Being a victim of polio at 18 months did not daunt an indomitable spirit he showed throughout his life. A graduate of Hampden Sydney College and the University of Virginia Law School, he entered private practice in Charlottesville. In 1947 he was appointed Judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court of Charlottesville to serve until 1950. After retiring from law practice he served as a Judge for special hearings for a regional part of the Commonwealth of Virginia for 21 years. he was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Sigma Chi fraternity and a Life Member of BPO 309 Elks Club. He married Lena Ann Wood in 1940 and they had two children. In 1965 he married Myrtle Courier Caul, who survives him, along with a son, John M. Hamlett III; and a granddaughter, Christine Brooks. Also surviving are a sister, Martha Davis; a niece, Charlotte Merry; and nephews, Francis Carter, Martha Carter and Elliott Davis. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at Hill & Wood Chapel with Dr. John Wilkerson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Westview Cemetery in Farmville. Those who wish may make contributions to Charlottesville/Albemarle Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 160, Charlottesville, Va. 22907. Hill & Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
