BROOKS
Mrs. Thelma E. Brooks of 7933 Jahnke Rd., departed this life Sunday, May 27, 2001. She is survived by one daughter, Zeporia B. Cartwright; one brother, Otis F. Early; one sister-in-law, Sarah Early; one grandson, Kenneth B. Cartwright Jr.; one granddaughter-in-law, Diane D. Cartwright; two great-grandsons, three nieces, one devoted, Johnna; three nephews, one devoted, Henry Allen; two great-nephews, two great-nieces and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 11 a.m. at Riverview Cemetery. Rev. David Fraizer officiating. Family and friends attending funeral services, assemble at the cemetery 10:45 a.m.

BROWN
Mildred G. Brown passed away May 25, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph M. Brown. She is survived by a son, James Rudolph Jr. (Rudy/J.R.); and a stepson, Nick Brown; three granddaughters, Deborah Denmark, Donna Taylor and Susan Brown; a grandson, Jeff Brown; four great-grandchildren, Marie Smith, Daniel Denmark Jr., Christian Denmark and Cody Taylor. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

BURNETT
John L. (Dick) Burnett of Richmond, departed this life Sunday, May 27, 2001. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Sts. Funeral notice later.

CARR
John Thomas Carr of Johnson City, Tenn., formerly of Richmond, died at his residence on Friday, May 25, 2001 after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Grace Zimmerman Carr; two daughters, Dean Mills of Atlanta, Ga. and Trudy Culbert of Stuart, Fla.; son, Thomas Carr of Melbourne, Fla.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Carr was an employee of Pet Milk Co. in Richmond for 17 years and for General Electric in Plymouth, Fla. for 16 years. He was a WWII Navy veteran, having served on the Battleship USS North Carolina. The family is being served by Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd.

EASTWOOD
Ruth Saul, 83, of Roanoke, Va., passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, wife of the late Charlie G. Eastwood; mother of Ken C. Eastwood and the late Nancy D. Eastwood; mother-in-law of Bonye H. Eastwood; sister of the late Aldridge and Cleveland Saul; grandmother of Amy and Barrett Eastwood; and sister-in-law of Lavonia Lawhorn. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29 at 10 a.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

EVANS
Annie B. Evans of Richmond, entered eternal rest May 22, 2001. Cherishing her memory are three children, Cecil Evans Jr., Theresa Pryor and Patricia Middleton; two foster children, Francine and Joseph Woods; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-granchildren; one sister, Jannie Allen; one daughter-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Eulogistic service will be conducted Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1415 Perry St. Father David Stokes officiating. Interment Fort Harrison National Cemetery. FARMER
Mrs. Edith B. Farmer, 80, of Richmond, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at her residence. She had been a Medical Secretary at the McGuire Clinic until December of 2000. The widow of Everett "Gummy" Farmer, she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David J. and Dianne Farmer, Calvin J. and Iva Farmer; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne F. and Paul Raskopf; four grandchildren, Amber, David, Penn, and Rusty Farmer; one great-grandson, Penn Farmer Jr.; and three sisters, Betty B. Payne, Lucille B. Merritt and Mildred B. Green. The family will receive friends Monday, May 28, 2001 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service in Fredericksburg, Va., where services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 11:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

FRANCIS
Jeff Thomas Francis, 85, a resident of Waverly, Va., died at John Randolph Hospital on Saturday, May 26, 2001. The son of the late Robert Elliot Francis and Hattie Mae Branch Francis, he was a native of Surry County, a member of Waverly Baptist Church and a former member of the Waverly Fire Dept. Mr. Francis owned the H & F Motor Company in Waverly, retiring in 1972 after 40 years as a mechanic. Mr. Francis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Annie Mae Clary Francis; two sons, Floyd Earl Francis of Chester and Wayne Thomas Francis Sr. of Waverly; a brother, Walter Francis of Prince George; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, with the Rev. Randy Hawkins officiating. Burial will be in Waverly Cemtery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Waverly Vol. Rescue Squad.

GIBBS
William "Billy" Daniel Gibbs, age 90, of Petersburg, died Sunday, May 27, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife, Lillie M. Gibbs; two daughters, Mrs. Ruby G. Godbehere of Petersburg and Mrs. Mary G. Weathers of Augusta, Ga.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a 50 year member of the W.O.W. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Blackstone Presbyterian Church, with burial in Lakeview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 7 to 8 p.m. at Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home, Blackstone.

GRAFF
Conrad Lawrence "Larry" Graff Jr., 78, of Glen Allen, died Friday, May 25, 2001 at home. He is survived by his wife, Verna Wickham Graff. They were married for 54 years. He is also survived by two daughters, Verna L. Graff-Gessaman and her husband, John R. Gessaman, and Virginia Graff-Muse and her husband, David J. Muse; five grandchildren, Lea Graff Gessaman, Kurt Loren Gessaman, Eleanor Mercedes Muse, Roger Muse and Kathleen Gilfoil; and two brothers. Mr. Graff led a distinguished naval career beginning with his enlistment in the United State Navy in Los Angeles, California in September 1940, and serving faithfully and honorably as a Chief Machinist Mate in the regular Navy until retirement from active duty in April 1960. Mr. Graff was in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, serving on the U.S.S. Tennessee on Battleship Row, where he earned the first of many medals. He stayed on the U.S.S. Tennessee through the Battle of Midway before transferring to the U.S.S. Denver. It was on the U.S.S. Denver, in October 1944, that he was again decorated in the historically significant Battle of Surigao Straight, the longest gun to gun battle engagement in U.S. Naval history. Mr. Graff was in the final stages of the Pacific War, active in the occupation of Japan. He received a total of 17 battle-related decorations during the engagements of World War II. He continued serving his country in ports around the world, as well as at home, until full retirement after 30 years on June 1, 1970. Mr. Graff loved Glen Allen Baptist Church and was a faithful member. He was a member of Glen Allen Lodge #131, AF&AM, Richmond Scottish Rite Bodies, where he took an active part in conferring the Ninth Degree for many years, ACCA Temple Shrine, a charter member of the Glen Allen Shrine Club, Past Patron of Glen Allen Chapter #61, O.E.S. and a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. Remains rest at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Glen Allen Baptist Church. Interment in the Church of Our Saviour Cemetery, Montpelier.

HOLLAND
Margaret Frances Smith Holland, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001. She was born September 8, 1907 in Kansas City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Wendell Holland; her granddaughter, Katrina Allyne Holland; her grandson, Benjamin Holland; and two sisters, Louise Evans and Mildred Smith. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Robert Gray Holland of Montclair, Va., and his wife, Allyne Holland, and Dr. James Gordon Holland of Pittsburgh, Pa., and his wife, Dr. Pamela Meadowcroft Holland; seven grandchildren, Kristina Holland Malensek, Robert Gray Holland Jr., Patricia Holland Budd, James Ray Holland, Jonathan Thomas Holland, Julia Mae Holland and Dr. Katherine Holland Bouley. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Zoey Angel Malensek, Sara and Jessica Budd, James Holland, Thomas Michael and Anne Katherine Bouley, and Adrian Holland. She was graduated from Liberty (Missouri) High School and attended Maryville College in Tennessee. She lived most of the last 50 years of her life in Richmond, and the last few at Eden Pines in Petersburg, Va. She lived at several National Parks with her husband, most notably at Fort Pulaski, Ga., and Shiloh National Park in Tennessee. She was a member of Eastern National Park & Monument Association. She was proficient in knitting and other needlework and taught knitting at Thalhimer's downtown, The Stitching Post and Jermie's. Her remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Westhampton Memorial Park, 5228 Patterson Ave. Dr. Edward J. Stansfield, Pastor of Chester Baptist Church, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond S.P.C.A. or the Ben Holland Memorial Fund: Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, 209 Fourth Ave., Pittsburgh, Pa. 15222.

JEFFERSON
Mrs. Magnolia M. Jefferson of Washington, D.C., formerly of Richmond, sister of Esther Patterson, and aunt of Horace Harrison, departed this life May 23, 2001. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where family will receive friends on Tuesday evening until 7 p.m. Funeral services will beheld from Mt. Camel Baptist Church, 901 3rd Street. N.W. Washington, D.C., 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

Faye T. Langford, 57, of Richmond, passed away May 26, 2001. Mrs. Langford was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Langford; and her mother, Beulah Frank. She is survived by her son, Roger Langford; father, Fred Turnage; stepfather, Marvin Frank; sisters, Mitzi Hooper and Brenda Cameron, their families and many friends. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10), where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be held at Dale Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Bon Secours Hospice, 5801 Bremo Rd., Suite 710, Richmond, Va. 23226.

LOCKLEAR
JoAnn Turner Locklear, 65, wife of J.D. Locklear of 503 Ellendin Ave., died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at the Cherryvale United Methodist Church by the Rev. Elizabeth Wright Taylor. Burial in Thornrose Cemetery will be private.

RASNAKE
Donald D. Rasnake, 77, of Richmond, passed away at a local hospital, Saturday, May 26, 2001. He was the widower of Vivian H. Rasnake. He is survived by two sisters, Lillian Bryant of Scottsville and Gaynell Owens and her husband, Bence of Troy, Mich.; a brother, Billy Rasnake of Glen Allen; two stepsons, John H. Watach of Sandston and Charles J. Watach of Roanoke; and three stepgrandchildren, Monica Watach-Burrow and her husband, Linwood Burrow, Beth Watach and Tracy Watach. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

REDWINE
Doris L. Redwine, 69, of Richmond, entered into eternal rest suddenly, on Wednesday, May 23, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Jannie and John Dandridge Sr. Cherishing her memory are one brother, John Dandridge Jr. and wife, Gladys of Goochland; two nieces, Maria Donaldson and Angela Lester of Delaware; two devoted cousins, Rosie Rivers of Florida, and Jean Rice; three great-nieces and three great-nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. Services will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Judah and Leigh Sts., on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Wallace Cook officiating. Viewing will be held on Monday (today) at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., and Tuesday at the church two hours prior to service. Interment Riverview Cemetery. Robert Mealy Funeral Home, Goochland, in charge of arrangements.
