Gilbert Douglas Roulston, 89, of Richmond died Tuesday, September 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn White Roulston; a daughter, Jane Roulston Schottker; a granddaughter, Lisa Shottker
Smith and her husband, Dr. William S. Smith, all of Richmond; two sisters-in-law, Dorothe G. Roulston and Estelle W. Reinecke, both of Louisville, Ky.; and three nieces. Mr. Roulston retired in 1977 as Manager of the Richmond Division of the U.S. Tobacco Company and attended the University of Louisville and the University of Alabama. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church and was a member of the South Richmond Rotary Club and the Commonwealth Club. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Hollywood Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. Friday at Westminster Canterbury. Richard E. Spraggins, age 35, died Tuesday, September 4, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Spraggins of the home; three children, Samantha Ariel Spraggins, Andrea Michelle Spraggins and Dylan Cordell Spraggins, all of the home; his parents, Roy and Willie Spraggins of Baskerville; his sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Tommy

Sally C. White, 46, of Richmond, died September 5, 2001 after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband, Robert M. White; daughter, Jesse A. White; two sons, Robert M. White III and Jeffrey J. White; two brothers, Emery J. Chase Jr. and Bruce W. Chase; four sisters, Suzanne T. Brown, Carolyn M. Peifer, Sandra A. Hunt and Debra J. Norris. She also had a special relationship with her mother-in-law, Ivy E. White. She was a vice president of Signet Bank before joining Help Reliance, a Richmond home-care company, as executive director. Currently, she and her husband own The Inn at Corolla Light, located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Most recently she and her husband founded Cabaret-On-The-James, a horse farm, in Charles City County. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday. Richard G. Winn Sr., 66, of Richmond, passed away September 4, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Bessie A. Winn; son, Richard G. Winn Jr. and his wife, Sandy; daughter, Rhonda Cale; granddaughter, Meredith Cale; brothers, Edward Lewis Winn Jr. and his wife, Alice Mae, Herbert Gordon Winn, Michael Lee Winn and his wife, Marie; sisters, LaVerne Nunnally and Alice W. Phillips. He was a member of Company F, John Marshall Cadet Corps and a current member of the Sierra Club. He was a former salesman for Hawthorne Volkswagen and Dominion Chevrolet and an independent real estate investor. He retired as department manager from Pleasants Hardware. Upon retirement he lived in Deltaville, Va. and recently returned to Richmond. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 7 at West End Community Church of the Nazarene, 591 West Broad St. at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Sierra Club.

Clarence A. Wyatt of Mechanicsville died September 5, 2001. Survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy L. Wyatt; one son, Warren W. "Bubba" Wyatt Sr. and his wife, Barbara R. Wyatt; five grandsons, Warren W. Wyatt Jr. and his wife, Sheryl, Michael W. Wyatt and his wife, Susan, Scott A. Wyatt and his wife, Terri, Granville L. "Bobby" Wyatt Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, Danny R. Wyatt and his wife, Debbie; one granddaughter, Cindi Wyatt-Blake; one sister, Annie M. Stephens; and 16 greatgrandchildren, all of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by one son, Granville L. "Bobby" Wyatt Sr., Captain of the Richmond City Fire Department. Mr. Wyatt was a member of the Black Creek Baptist Church, Mechanicsville. John Mathias Beavers, 77, of Richmond, died Monday, June 25, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlotte V. Beavers; three sons and daughters-in-law, Eldon G. and Geneie Beavers, G. Wilbur and Cheryl Beavers, and Jerry G. and Pearl Beavers; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one brother, Bernard A. Beavers; two nephews; and two devoted friends, Martin L. Peery of Tazewell, Va. and Jack Dunnavant of Richmond. His remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday (today). Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. Mr. Beavers served our country during WWII as a staff sergeant with a heavy ordinance outfit attached to the Fifth Air Force serving in New Guinea, Dutch East Indies, Philippines, and Japan.

Carter Brooks. He is survived by one brother, Robert H. Brooks Jr.; a sister, Ruth E. Robinson; one sister-in-law, Thelma A. Brooks; and other relatives. William F. Brooks Sr., 81, of the 800 block of Cambridge Ave., died June 26, 2001, at Maryview Medical Center. He was predeceased by his parents, William H. and Bertha Turner Brooks; one brother and four sisters. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ardelle Wilkins Brooks; a daughter, Sheryl Brooks Fox and her husband, Edgar T. Fox Jr.; a son, William F. Brooks Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Sylvia W. Mann, all of Richmond; a sister, Margaret B. Crawford of Chesapeake; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Brooks retired from Columbia Gas Co. after 44 years of service. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served for many years as a deacon and Sunday School director and teacher. He also served for many years as an Assistant Scoutmaster with BSA Troop 216. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Philip Parker, with burial in Olive Branch Cemetery. William Eratosthenis Causieestko Jr. "Causie", 75, of Richmond, began his new life June 22, 2001. He was preceded in eternal rest by his parents and sister, Maggie. He leaves a dedicated wife and friend, Aleen; five daughters, Diana, Audrey, Sheila, Carol and Billie; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends. After completing Armstrong High, "Causie" graduated from Hampton University in 1949. He later achieved his master's degree, and went on to receive a mortuary science degree, was a member of many organizations and an Army veteran. DEAL
Mary Lou Deal, prominent potter and painter, passed at her Hanover home on the afternoon of June 26, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Raasa Leela Shields; three cats; brother, David Deal; sister-in-law, Jean Deal; and niece, Heather Deal. She enchanted judges at such significant exhibitions as the Smithsonian's Washington Craft Show and the Philadelphia Craft Show. Mary Lou received critical acclaim in the Washington Post, the New York Times, Smithsonian Magazine, Southern Accents and numerous other publications. In 1990, she was chosen by the Metropolitan Home Magazine as one of 100 "most important movers and shakers of the world." Mary Lou has been involved with the Hand Work Shop for over 30 years in every capacity from artist to board member. She was instrumental in the transformation of the Richmond Craft Fair to the now distinguished Craft and Design Show. Mary Lou has been the recipient of numerous awards including the 1991 Outstanding Woman Award for the Arts from the YMCA. In 1986, she received the Virginia Museum Professional Fellowship Grant. She also served as a board member for the Hanover Library. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 1 at 2 p.m. at her farm, 13045 Walnut Shade Lane, Ashland, Va.
