Mrs. Melissa Hatcher Anderson, age 95, of Cumberland, Va., departed this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 in Farmville, Va. She is survived by her daughter, Elsie West; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Her remains rest at Marian Gray Thomas Funeral Home of Cumberland. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 12 noon at Rising Zion Baptist Church, Cumberland. Rev. Joseph Goode, pastor, officiating, with interment in the Miller Family Cemetery.

ASKEW
Vivian M. (Nookie) Askew departed this life Saturday, April 13, 2002 at Hermitage Retirement Home. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Pleman Askew; three stepdaughters, Tamika Birchett, Sonya and Nicole Lee; two sisters, Patricia Smith and Rita Scroggins; a host of nieces and nephews; eight aunts, among them one devoted, Louise Morgan; five uncles; devoted cousin, Dorothy Taylor; mother-in-law, Juanita Askew; five brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 N. 25th St. Remains will lie in state Saturday, 12 noon at Great Hope Baptist Church, 2101 Venable St., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Dr. Earl Bledsoe officiating. BAKER
Anthony Baker, 83, of Ruther Glen, died Sunday, April 14, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth B. Terrell; three sisters, Alice Cerny, Mary Korb and Bessie Sherman; his granddaughter, April R. Terrell; his great-grandson, Brandon S. Terrell; two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Baker was an Army Tech Sergeant in World War II. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lady Smith Volunteer Fire Department or the Montpelier Volunteer Fire Department. BARKER
John Morris Barker Jr., 55, of Montpelier, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002. He was the son of the late John Morris Barker and Katherine Mallory Barker and was owner of S&B Concrete Inc. for 28 years. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Jones Barker; his sons, Keith Barker, Kevin Barker, Kyle Barker and Kraig Barker, all of Montpelier; his granddaughters, Emily Grace and Lindsey Faith Barker; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and John Bortzfield, Doris and Sonny Whittaker, and Carolyn Brooks; his brothers, Wilbur Barker and Donald Barker. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, Va. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Mineral Baptist Church, Mineral, Va., with interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Louisa. Memorial donations may be made to the West Hanover Church.

Sallie Mae Warren Bates of Richmond, formerly of Selma, Ala.; Miami, Fla.; and Jacksonville, Fla., died Thursday, April 18, 2002. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Min Ja and Robert Burns of Richmond. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2002 in New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, Ala. The Lawrence Funeral Home of Selma, Ala., in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hawthorne Hospice of Richmond, 1461 Johnston-Willis Dr., Richmond, Va. 23235.

Louise Barley Booker, age 82, of Amelia, entered into eternal life Tuesday, April 16, 2002, Heritage Hall Health Center, Amelia. She is survived by her children, Dorothy Woodson (Lemuel), Maude Tillery, James Booker (Betty), Franklin Booker, Sarah Moss (Marshall), Christian Booker Jr., Hester Chaffin (Eddie), Joel Booker, Alice Booker, Pamela Booker, William Earl Booker (Rhonda), Oscar Booker (Yolanda), and Jewel Booker; grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren, man other relatives and friends. Funeral services Saturday, 1 p.m. Little Union Baptist Church, Amelia, Rev. Ken Hawthorne, pastor, Rev. Marlon Haskell, eulogist. Arrangements by V.Y. Scott Funeral Home, Hwy. 360 E., Amelia.

BROWN
Cloyd J. Brown, 87, of Richmond, died Thursday, April 18, 2002. He was the widower of Willie Mae Brown. He is survived by his daughter, Gloria B. Garland; his son, C. Raymond Brown and his wife, Shirley; two sisters, Myrtle Moore and Phyllis Davis; five grandchildren, Warren, Jeffrey and Michael Garland, Claudia Leiski and C. Raymond Brown Jr.; three great-grandchildren, Michael Garland Jr., Scot Garland and Jonathan Leiski. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Masonic Service 7:30 p.m. Friday, and where funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Interment Dale Memorial Park. Mr. Brown was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge No. 161, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Elkhardt Baptist Church.

CAMDEN
Mildred Adams Camden, age 90, of Lowesville, Va., died April 16, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard W. Camden; three sons, Roger, Harold and Bernard Camden; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20 at the Central Baptist Church in Lowesville, where the family will receive friends two hours prior to the service. Interment Amherst County Cemetery.

DUNN
Elnora Oliver Dunn, 74, of Lakeside, departed this life Wednesday, April 17, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Marshall Dunn; a son, Thomas L. Dunn; and a grandson, James E. Dunn Jr. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James E. Dunn Sr. and Audrey O. Dunn; and a daughter-in-law, Julia I. Dunn; grandchildren, Vickie, Craig and Rebecca Dunn; great-grandchildren, Joey and James Delaney; and devoted friends, Annie Mae and Arthur Pollard and Edna Buttner. Mrs. Dunn was retired from C&P Telephone Co. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Friday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lakeside Rescue Squad.

ELLIS
Departed this life on April 14, 2002, Barbara "Barb Jean" Ellis was met in heaven by her parents, Robert and Rosa Ellis. Her memories will be cherished by her loving children, Marquita and Marvin Ellis; three grandchildren; sisters, Geraldine Kelson, Sylvia Dirricott and Penny Ellis; brothers, Robert Jr., Thomas, and Keith Ellis; brother-in-law, James Dirricott; godson, George Kenny; a host of other relatives and friends, one devoted, Jerry Green. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave., where the family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 p.m., and where funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, 1 p.m. Interment Oakwood Cemetery. GARRISON
Marian Ashton Garrison, 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 15, 2002 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, George N. and Myrtle A. Garrison. Surviving are her sister, Audrey Moss Nichols of Richmond; and her brother, Donald Bruce Garrison of Bluefield, Va. Her surviving nieces and nephews are Nancy Moss Hussar, Susan Garrison Scheper, Joseph A. Moss, Philip B. Moss and David B. Garrison. Miss Garrison did volunteer work for many years at the Braille Circulating Library with Miss Louise Harrison McCraw. She also worked for an insurance agency before her retirement. The family will have visitation at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside funeral service will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 1 p.m. on Saturday. She was a dear, sweet little lady and will be very much missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Braille Circulating Library.

GOOD
Nora Fauls "Jean" Good, 74, formerly of the Mill Creek Church area, died Tuesday morning in Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield County. She was born April 26, 1927 in Lacy Springs and was a daughter of the late Otis Daniel and Mimmie Lee Shoemaker Fauls. She was a member of the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. She was a retired pleating machine operator with SANCAR, Inc. On March 1, 1953 she married Lawrence David Good Sr., who died May 29, 1999. She is survived by one son, Lawrence David Good Jr. of Harrisonburg; one daughter, Janice G. Byers of Richmond. Five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 11 a.m. by the Revs. A. Lee Kinsey and Olen B. Landes in the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren near Port Republic. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening, 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger-Pence Funeral Home near McGaheysville.

GREEN

GROVE
Diane Campbell Grove, 44, died peacefully in the arms of her husband at their home near Lovettsville, April 13 of cancer. Diane is the only daughter of Garland and Lottie Campbell of Richmond, Va. She is survived by her husband, Scott Grove; their three children, Kevin, Carrie and Edward Grove; her parents; and her brothers, Carroll and Donald Campbell. She is remembered as a loving, submissive wife and mother whose sustaining faith in Christ Jesus brought her great personal peace, and harmony to her home. She was loved and appreciated and her quiet, gentle spirit was a blessing to all. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville, Va. on April 19. Graveside service following at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.

HALLADAY
William Johnson Halladay, 64, of Richmond, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002. He was the son of the late John Burton and Margaret Johnson Halladay of Roselle Park, New Jersey. He is survived by his wife, Anne F. Halladay; his sons, Scott J. Halladay and Clark W. Halladay; his daughter-in-law, Marion D. Halladay; and two grandchildren, Margaret L. Halladay and Clark W. Halladay Jr. Mr. Halladay was a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology, and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He was founder and former president of the engineering firm, Halladay Contracting. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2002 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2002 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wintergreen Nature Foundation, P.O. Box 468, Wintergreen, Va. 22958.

HAMMACK
Georgia K. Hammack, 73, of Lawrenceville, Virginia, died on April 17, 2002 following a lengthy illness. Georgia was a free lance writer who, for more than 25 years, had a weekly column, called MScellaneous, published in The South Hill Enterprise. Georgia is survived by her husband of more than 51 years, L.J. Hammack Jr.; and by three children and their respective spouses, Amy H. Turner and David Turner, Richard H. Hammack and Micol Hammack and Laurence K. Hammack and Brenda Hammack; and by a granddaughter, Adriana Hammack. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hammack home, Sherwood, 9931 Governor Harrison Parkway, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 20. 2002. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church of Lawrenceville, Virginia 23868. Williams Funeral Home, Lawrenceville, in charge of arrangements.

HIERS
Shirley Burton Hiers, age 76, a native of Portsmouth and local resident for 58 years, died Thursday, April 18, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Franklin James Hiers; two daughters, Mrs. Pat Day of Richmond and Ms. Luann Sprouse of Richmond; one grandson, Todd Tate of Richmond; one sister, Evelyn Screeney of Portsmouth; and one brother, Richard Burton of Portsmouth. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2 p.m. at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, with Rev. J. Michael Poole officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Endowment Fund at Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, 2300 Dumbarton Rd., Richmond, Va. 23228.

JACKSON
Shuler H. Jackson, age 83, of Charles City County, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2002. He is survived by his companion, Margaret Diane Watson; his sons, Harold S., Shuler H. Jr., Dan, Keith, Chris and Eli; his daughters, Juanita and Angel; sisters, Margaret, Rosa and Hazel; brothers, Howard and Luther; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Jackson was a Navy veteran of WWII. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday. JONES
Ruth Loflin Jones, 80, of Plaza Drive, Hopewell, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002 in John Randolph Medical Center. She was born in Gordon, Texas and had made her home in the Tri-City area since 1944. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Texas Tech. She was the daughter of the late Reed B. and Rachel Colvard Loflin and the widow of Judge Ligon Lee Jones. Mrs. Jones is survived by a daughter, Judy L. Knight of Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons, Archer Lee Jones II of Portsmouth and Ligon Loflin Jones of Prince George; one grandson, Ligon Lee Jones II of Prince George; a sister, Jane Thompson; one brother, Reed Loflin, both of Lubbock Texas. The family will receive friends Friday, April 19, 2002 from 7 to 7:30 p.m. in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 11 a.m. in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopewell Emergency Crew, P.O. Box 572, Hopewell, Va. 23860, or First United Methodist Church, 502 W. Broadway, Hopewell, Va. 23860. The family is being served by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
