Shirley S. Martin
The funeral for Shirley Shelton Martin, 67, of 35 Fairy Drive, Stuart, who died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, at her home, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bassett Funeral Chapel in Bassett. Bishop Robert Bradley and Elder Clarence Stone will preside. Burial will follow in Union Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Patrick County.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Bassett Funeral Service.
A Patrick County native, she was born March 2, 1936, a daughter of the late James Aubrey Shelton and the late Martha Susie Clark Shelton. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Shelton and Curtis Shelton; and a sister, Gladys Fansler.
She was a member of the Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Susie Martin Easter and Debbie Martin Shelton, both of Patrick Springs; one brother, Alvis Shelton of Stuart; two sisters, Marie Stone of Bassett and Mildred Sigmon of Stuart; and three grandchildren.
Patsy L. Cole
Patsy Lynn Cole, 46, of 290 Shadowbox Road, Axton, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at her home.
She was born Feb. 10, 1957 to Norma Jean Nealy Murphy and the late Earley Emerson Murphy.
She was a graduate of Averett College with a degree in social work. She worked as a child protective services supervisor for the Henry County-Martinsville Social Services for 24 years before retiring because of a disability.
She served as the treasurer for the Task Force of Martinsville and Henry County and was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Eden, N.C.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a stepdaughter, Kimberly Cole, of Gainesville, Fla.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Westover Wrenn Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Eden, N.C., with burial in the Providence Baptist Church cemetery.
Doris W. Holt
Doris W. Holt, 79, of 139 D&W Lane, Patrick Springs, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at R.J. Reynolds Patrick Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Howell Funeral Home of Stuart.
Christine D. Honeycutt
Christine Donavant Honeycutt, 80, of 39 Blalock Drive, Martinsville, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center.
Born in Henry County on July 31, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Hobert Hubert Donavant and the late Mary Francis Hodges Donavant.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church of Axton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Erma Ray; and a brother, Hubert Donavant.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Honeycutt, of the home; a daughter, Alicia Dianne Walker of Cascade; two sons, David Eugene Gunter of Dobson, N.C., and Rodney Alton Gunter of Martinsville; a sister, Linda R. Walker of Hurt; three brothers, James Donavant and Daniel Donavant, both of Martinsville, and Lewis Donavant of Kernersville, N.C.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the Donavant family cemetery in Martinsville, the Rev. Billy Stegall officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. today at Community Funeral Services chapel and at other times at the home of James Donavant, 387 Woodlawn Dr., Martinsville.
Virginia S. Hutcherson
Virginia May Shupe Hutcherson, 87, of Blue Ridge Rehab Center and formerly of Mineral Street, Martinsville, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born June 24, 1916 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late John Shupe and the late Mary Gordon Shupe.
She was retired from American of Martinsville. She was of the Baptist faith.
In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Hutcherson, who died in 2000.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Burial Park, pastor Elka Cheshire officiating. The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services and Crematory beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Ruth H. Shelton
The funeral for Ruth Hazelwood Shelton, 82, of Martinsville, who died Jan. 28, 2004, was held Sunday at Big A Church of Christ, preacher Don Bailey officiating
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Plaster, Tim Shelton, Chris Shelton, Michael Shelton, Lee Hazelwood, Billy Black, Don Richards.
Margaret Woodward
Margaret Woodward, 78, of 1372 Soapstone Road, Ridgeway, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2003 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

Hattie M. Burnett
Hattie Mae Crowder Burnett, 95, of 300 Blue Ridge St., Martinsville, died Friday, April 9, 2004 at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
She was born in Roanoke on March 25, 1909, to Charles E. and Nannie Pruitt Crowder, both deceased.
She retired from MCV Hospital in Richmond after 40 years of service. She was a member of
Williams Memorial Baptist Church in Roanoke and served on the culinary committee there.
Surviving are nieces and nephews in Martinsville and Henry County.
A graveside service will be held at noon on Wednesday at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. Minister Shelia Daniels and the Rev. Paul
Johnson will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Monday and at other times at the home of a niece, Imogene Preston, 3286 Spencer Preston Road, Martinsville.
Hines Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.
Joseph Lance
Joseph Lance, 62, of 9505 Chatham Road, Martinsville died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at his home.

James W. Rea
James William "Jimmy" Rea, 68, of 78 Pine Forest Drive, Spencer, died Friday, April 9, 2004 while fishing at Keebler Valley, Ararat.
He was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Henry County to James Earl Rea and Nellie Miles Rea. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Elwood Rea.
He retired from American Furniture Co. of Martinsville after serving 22 years in the maintenance department. He served in the Air Force and was a member of Mayo Christian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Lawrence Rea of the home; two sons, James Dale Rea and Dwayne Earl Rea, both of Spencer; three sisters, Ann R. Whitlock of Pleasant Grove, Edna R. Campbell of Stella and Doris R. Minter of Horsepasture; one brother, David B. Rea of Spencer and one step-grandson.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Norris Funeral Services chapel. Minister Don Forrester will officiate and burial will follow in the Old Well Christian Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held for two hours before the service Monday.
