Haywood L. Christian, a native of Manakin, Va., residing in Washington, D.C., departed this life March 14, 2001. Preceded in death by his son, Haywood Christian Jr., he is survived by a devoted friend and caregiver, Francis Cunningham; wife, Geraldine Christian; devoted brother and wife, Rev. and Mrs. Frederick Christian; mother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His remains rest at W.S. Watkins & Son Funeral Home, where his family will receive friends 11 a.m. Monday, and where funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon. Rev. Frederick Christian officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.

COLLINS
James E. Collins, 68, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001. He was recently preceded in death by his son, James E. Collins Jr. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Fay B. Collins; two daughters, Joanne C. Wright and Sharon C. Sprouse and husband, E. Donal; three sisters, Mildred Gantz, Frances Shirley and Margaret Crowder; two brothers, Eugene Collins and his wife, Verla, Stuart Collins and his wife, Peggy; six grandchildren, Dr. Crystal Wright, Beckey Hurst and her husband, Pearson, Carrie and Wayne Sprouse, Christopher and Jennifer Collins; also numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Collins was a member of Skipwith Baptist Church and a former member of the City of Richmond Neighborhood Assistance Officers. He was well-known in the automotive industry in Richmond. His remains rest at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd., where the family will receive friends 12 noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and where services will be conducted 12 noon Monday, March 19. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

CROWSON
Enoch Everett Crowson Jr., 66, artist/philosopher and devotee of architecture, politics, science, music and opera, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 of a massive stroke at Wesley Long Nursing Center in Jamestown, N.C. Mr. Crowson was the only child of the late Frances Hall and Enoch E. Crowson Sr. Enoch won the coveted D.A.R. award in history, served as a Senate page in Washington, D.C. under Senator Strom Thurman, and headed the presidential campaign for Robert F. Kennedy in Richmond, Va. He studied at Clemson University (S.C.), and then on to fine art studies at Richmond Professional Institute (Virginia Commonwealth University) in Richmond, Va. His artwork is in both private and corporate collections, and was accepted into numerous art shows, including The Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. Mr. Crowson worked in a number of positions. In Richmond, he was co-founder of the publishing/advertising company, Capital Ideas, Inc. and had been employed by the Country Club of Virginia. In keeping with his generous nature and dedication to science, he donated his body to Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He will be sorely missed by his close friends, whose lives he touched in so many ways.

DAVIS
Larry B. Davis, age 21, of Richmond, died suddenly on March 15, 2001. He is survived by his mom and stepdad, Joanne and Swifty; his dad and stepmom, Shirley and Gwen Davis; three children, Tyler, Kaylee and Cody; brother, Brian Davis; stepbrothers, Danny and Gary; stepsister, Carla; grandparents, Lucille and Jack Skinner; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.

EBERHARDT
Died March 15, 2001, Charles L. Eberhardt of 613 Savannah Ave. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Ave. Funeral notice later.

EVANS
Ben B. Evans, 85, formerly of 1804 Geffert Dr., Richmond, Va., died March 11, 2001. Predeceased by his wife, Marge. Survived by his son, Benny Carol Evans; and a special niece, Hilda Stephens, both of Hildebran, N.C. He retired from C&O Railroad. Funeral service was held in Hildebran, N.C. The family requests any memorials go to Hospice of Burke County, P.O. Box 1029, Baldese, N.C. 28690.

FIELD
Joseph Edwin Field Jr., 80, of Richmond, passed away suddenly Thursday, March 15, 2001. He is survived by his most loving wife, Pauline Littlepage Field; and many wonderful friends. Mr. Field retired from the Virginia Department of Highways in 1983 after 42 years of service. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II in the Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima. Mr. Field was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital for over 15 years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, and where services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 18. Interment in Westhampton Memorial Park.

FISHER
Mrs. Pearl V. Fisher, age 81, of 11308 River Rd., Chesterfield, departed this life Thursday morning, March 15, 2001, at her residence. She was a retired employee of the Chesterfield County School System. She was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Petersburg. Mrs. Fisher leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Earnest L. Fisher (Mia) of Macon, Ga., Eldred A. Fisher (Rose) and Norman L. Watford, both of Chesterfield; five daughters, Pearl Juanita Abram (John) of Chesterfield, Eunice D. Fisher, Jeraldine M. Simmons (Lonnie), Shirley V. Anderson (Herbert) and Geneva M. Fisher, all of Richmond; one daughter-in-law, Arlene Fisher of Petersburg; 30 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Randolph Brown of Chesterfield; two sisters, Alice Turner (Clarence) of Richmond and Otelia Brown of Chesterfield; one special devoted godsent friend, Glorita Thompson (Warren); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2001, at the chapel of Tucker's Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph A. Simmons Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Dinwiddie Memorial Park. Relatives and friends are asked to assemble at 12:30 p.m. at the residence, 11308 River Rd., Chesterfield. Remains rest at Tucker's Funeral Home. Services under the direction of Tucker's Funeral Home, 415 Halifax St., Petersburg. A.A. Tucker, funeral director.

GASKIN
Phyllis Brewer Gaskin died at her home on Friday, March 16, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Willett Reed and Ethel Myers Brewer and is survived by her husband of 42 years, John Gaskin; daughter and son-in-law, Susan G. and Dwight Lee Haden of Richmond; son and daughter-in-law, Paul Stephen Gaskin, USN and Lt. Tonie Edwards-Gaskin, USN, of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, James Harwood, Sarah Elizabeth and Alexander Keefe Haden and Stephen Daniel and Stephanie Donya Edwards; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Brewer and Linwood Carl Shelton of Portsmouth; nephew, Linwood Scott Shelton of Arlington; niece, Phyllis Shelton and husband, James Hunter Higginsbotham II of Altavista; grandniece, Margaret (Meg) Elizabeth Higginbotham; three grandnephews, James Hunter III, Edwin Massie and Sumner Shelton Higginbotham. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, West Huguenot Rd. and Woodmont Dr. Interment of ashes will be held 3 p.m. Monday at Oak Grove Cemetery, London Blvd. and Peninsula Ave., Portsmouth. Mrs. Gaskin was born October 6, 1923 in Portsmouth and was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, class of 1945. She was employed by IBM Corporation in Norfolk from 1945 through 1958. From 1975 until her retirement in 1988, she was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The family is being served by the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave.

GUNTER
Ruth S. Gunter of Charles City passed away Thursday, March 15, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Linwood Gunter; her son, Melvin Hall Sr. and his wife, Betty; her daughter, Joyce Bonjean; one brother, Boyd C. Smith and his wife, Martha; two stepdaughters, Karen Inge and Debbie Gunter; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gunter was retired from General Motors with 31 years of service and was a member of Samaria Baptist Church. Her remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment Dale Memorial Park.

HARTLEY
Charles "Bootsie" Thomas Hartley, 54, passed March 16, 2001 in Lynchburg. He was the son of the late Richard Cowles and Charlotte Andrews Hartley of Buckner. He is survived by two sisters, Carole H. Fariss of Rustburg and Charlotte H. Trice of Fredericks Hall; a brother, Richard C. Hartley Jr. of Buckner; and six nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Rustburg, Va., by the Dr. Jerry Falwell and Rev. Arthur Wingfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to ARC (Association for Retarded Citizens), 1508 Bedford Ave., Lynchburg, Va. 24504.

HENCH
Miles E. Hench died at home in Tampa, Fla., on March 7, 2001. He is survived by his daughters, Virginia E. Hench and Carol H. Valentine; son, Thomas G. Hench; son-in-law, James H. Valentine; grandchildren, Willsey R. Valentine and Daniel Hench Valentine; and sister, Rowena K. Willsey. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Miles E. Hench Scholarship Fund, c/o MCV Foundation, P.O. Box 908234, Richmond, Va. 23298-0234. Friends are invited to a celebration of his life on Sunday, March 25, 5 to 7 p.m., in the Westminster-Canterbury Roof Terrace, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, Va.

LASLEY
Alice Seay Lasley of the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, Culpeper, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at the Culpeper Regional Hospital. She was the widow of John Owen Lasley. She was born April 9, 1910 in Albemarle County, the daughter of the late Aron Sidney Seay and Mary Norman Jennings Seay. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Nella Stross, Margaret Proffitt, Mary Critzer; her twin sister, Anita McBride; and one brother, Aron Norman Seay. She attended high school in Scottsville and received nursing training at Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was active in Baptist church work. At the time of her death, she was a member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church, Hagerstown, Md. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Lasley Quinn and her husband, Kevin of Culpeper; two granddaughters, Kathleen Quinn of Highland Heights, Ky. and Stephanie Quinn Lawrence of Alexandria; and two nieces, Margaret Critzer Reese and Doris Ellen Critzer. Services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2001 at Fluvanna Baptist Church, Scottsville. The Rev. Alan H. Acree will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at a reception from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2001 in the Assembly Room of the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community. There are no viewing hours scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Culpeper Baptist Retirement Community, P.O. Box 191, Culpeper, Va. 22701. Thacker Brothers Funeral Home, Scottsville, is in charge of arrangements.

LINKOUS
H. Clarke Linkous, age 84, of Deltaville, formerly of Richmond, a building contractor, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Bayside Health Care Center, Virginia Beach. He was a member of Philippi Christian Church and Donovan Lodge No. 75 AF&AM. After his retirement he enjoyed building wooden toys. Survived by his wife, Elizabeth M. Linkous; a daughter, Linda L. Parsons; and a son, Barry C. Linkous, both of Virginia Beach; four sisters, Maryanna Henderson of Bedford, Roberta Wildenradt of Sycamore, Ill., Olivia Cleveland of Camilla, Ga., Ethelyn Moritz of Ironton, Ohio; and three grandchildren. Graveside services with Masonic rites will be held 2 p.m. Sunday in Philippi Memorial Gardens, Deltaville. The family will receive friends following the service in Philippi Christian Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Lower Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department, Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad or Philippi Christian Church, Deltaville, Va. 23043.

Morton; devoted mother, Viola C. Morton; two brothers, Charles Andrew and Aubrey S. Morton Jr.; five sisters, Joan M. Brunson, Gloria M. Rodwell, Carol M. Harris, Joyce M. Miles, Sandra M. Chavis; his former wife, Jeannette L. Morton; four sisters-in-law, Doris S., Viola B., Rev. Patricia C. and Azile Morton; four brothers-in-law, Leroy Brunson Sr., Charlie Rodwell, Carlton Harris, and Alan Chavis; one son-in-law, Marvin J. Chambers; six aunts, three uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Remains rest at Walter J. Manning Funeral Home, 700 North 25th Street, where the family will receive friends Friday, 7 to 8 p.m. Remains will lie in state Saturday, 12 Noon at Fourth Baptist Church, 2800 P Street, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Dr. Grady Powell interim pastor. Eulogy by Rev. Selwyn Q. Bachcus. Burial Monday 11:30 a.m. Quantico National Cemetery.

PARSLEY
Hilda W. Parsley, 81, of Richmond, died Friday, March 16, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter L. Parsley. She is survived by her sister, Una W. Inman and her husband, John W. Inman; sister-in-law, Estelle and husband, Milton Chandler; two nieces, Kyle I. Henderson of Benicia, Calif., and Page I. Tran of Annandale, Va.; one nephew, Scott W. Inman of Atlanta, Ga. Remains rest at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Forest Lawn. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leigh Street Baptist Church, where Mrs. Parsley was a lifetime member, or to your favorite charity.
