Joy Ann Proctor 47 years
Joy Ann Proctor, 47, of Colonial Beach died unexpectedly Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at her residence. Born in Washington, Mrs. Proctor worked as a night stocker at Wal-Mart on State Route 3 east in Stafford. She was a member of Eagles Lodge 4315 in Colonial Beach. Survivors include her husband, Eugene Proctor; a daughter, Ashley Proctor of Colonial Beach; a son, Trey Proctor of Colonial Beach; her mother, Josephine Marshall of Colonial Beach; and eight brothers, Richard Marshall of King George County, George Marshall, Danny Marshall and Jerry Marshall, all of Manassas, Leslie Marshall of Pennsylvania, David Marshall, Jimmy Marshall and Robert Marshall, all of Colonial Beach. A graveside service was held Friday in Quantico National Cemetery. The Rev. Scottie Jackson officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Eagles Lodge 4315, Colonial Beach, Va. 22443. Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, handled the arrangements.

E. Roland Payne 71 years
E. Roland Payne, 71, of White Oak in Stafford County died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at his residence. He was the father of Kathie Durfee of King George County, and brother of Patricia Brinklow and Richard Payne of King George. Mr. Payne was a retired service technician for Sears. He was a member of Community Baptist Church. An Army veteran, he was a member of VFW Post 3103. Other survivors include his wife, Gloria T. Payne; two other daughters, Teresa Bullock of Spotsylvania County and Lynn Newton of White Oak; his mother, Rosa Sanford of White Oak; another sister, Judith Walton of Virginia Beach; two other brothers, Raymond Payne and Ronald Payne, both of Stafford; and three grandchildren. A graveside service was held Monday in White Oak Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Carol Markham officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Mary Washington Hospice, 2217 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401 or to White Oak Rescue Squad, Box 5603, Falmouth, Va. 22403. Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg, handled the arrangements.

Steven Maurice Blass 62 years
Steven Maurice Blass, 62, of King George County died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Heritage Hall Health Care in King George after a long illness. Born in Little Rock, Ark., Mr. Blass had retired from the Navy as a lieutenant junior grade, having worked in intelligence, after 28 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Blass; a daughter, Roxanne Guthrie of King George; a sister, Micky Gaines of Fairland, Okla.; and three grandchildren. A funeral was held at Friday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. The Rev. Sherman Davis officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Route 2, Box 738, Montross, Va. 22520.

Helen M. Staples Ashby 56 years
Helen M. Staples Ashby, 56, of Westmoreland County died of cancer Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at her daughter's home in King George County. Born in Richmond, she was a dishwasher. Survivors include her husband, Paul Ashby; a daughter, Cheyenne Vick of King George; six sons, Danny Staples of Stafford County, Timmy Staples and Toby Staples, both of Spotsylvania County, and Floyd Staples, Kelly Staples and Cody Staples, all of King George; two brothers, Dillard Lee Johnson and Mac Johnson, both of King George; and 16 grandchildren. A graveside service was held Tuesday in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Margaret H. Adams 78 years
Margaret H. Adams, 78, of Colonial Beach died at her home Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001. Born in Newberry, S.C., Mrs. Adams was a longtime employee at the Colonial Beach Pharmacy. She was a member of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She was the widow of Dewitt C. Adams. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca A. Williams of Colonial Beach; a son, Richard D. Adams of Colonial Beach; a sister, Hazel Lookadoo of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral was held at today at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, Colonial Beach. Burial was in Popes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Baynesville. The Rev. Richard Headley officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

John Arba Wood 86 years
John Arba Wood, 86, of Spotsylvania County died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. He was the father of Patricia A. Potter of Colonial Beach. A native of Fauquier County, Mr. Wood had worked as a heavy equipment operator for the city of Fredericksburg. He was the widower of Dollie Moon Wood. In addition to his daughter of Colonial Beach, Mr. Wood is survived by another daughter, Ruby L. Quigley of Spotsylvania; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral was held Tuesday at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Frank Carrington officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.

Cora Frances Reynolds 88 years
Cora Frances Reynolds, 88, of King George County died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001, at Mary Washington Hospital. Born at Millenbeck in Lancaster County, she was a member of Oakland Baptist Church in King George and was the widow of Ford Wayne Reynolds. Survivors include three daughters, Betty Payne Broughton of Lancaster, Jane R. McDaniel and Janice R. McDaniel, both of King George; two sons, Wayne Ford Reynolds of Lancaster and Robert Lewis Reynolds of King George; seven grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Julian C. Reynolds and Luther Ray Reynolds. A funeral was held Friday at Oakland Baptist Church. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George. The Rev. Guy D. Mattox Jr. and the Rev. Ken Miller officiating. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Oakland Baptist Church Building Fund, 5520 James Madison Parkway, King George, Va. 22485. Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George, handled the arrangements.

Florence E. Massey 89 years
Florence E. Massey, 89, a former resident of Alexandria, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at Outlook Pointe in Stafford County. She was the mother of Leonard Schindel of King George County Born in Alexandria, Mrs. Massey had resided at The Chateau in Spotsylvania County for 11 years, before moving to Outlook Pointe about two months ago. She was the widow of Willard Massey. In addition to her son of King George, Mrs. Massey is survived by another son, George Schindel of Fairfax; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held Friday in Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria. Cunningham Funeral Home, Alexandria, handled the arrangements.

Keith Guy "Mousie" King 28 years
Keith Guy "Mousie" King, 28, of King George County died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at his home. Mr. King, born in Washington, was a special education teacher for Employee Resources Inc. Student Tutoring and Remediation Center in Fredericksburg. Last year, he was a special education teacher at King George Elementary School and head coach of the King George Middle School football team. At the same time, he was employed by Family Preservation Services Inc., where he served as a mentor to at-risk children. Mr. King was a 1991 graduate of King George High School and a 1999 graduate of Norfolk State University, where he earned a degree in psychology and was awarded the four-year student athlete award for varsity football and baseball. His memberships and honors included Tau-Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Beta Gamma, National Education Association, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club, President's List and the All-Conference Award. He attended Shiloh Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Modesta King; his parents, Larry and Jo King of King George; three brothers, Frank King of Gordonsville, Billy King of King George and Larry King of Waldorf, Md.; and his grandparents, Olive King of King George and Neal and Rusty Yetter of Memphis, Tenn. A funeral was held Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Rev. Bill Bragdon and the Rev. Dwight Storke Jr. officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, 13457 Kings Highway, King George, Va. 22485. Julian Jenkins Jr. 73 years
Julian Jenkins Jr., 73, of Stoneville, N.C., a native of King George County, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, in North Carolina. Mr. Jenkins, who grew up in King George and attended public schools there, had also resided in the Washington, D.C. area. He had retired from Washington Terminal Co. after 43 years with the railroad. He was a World War II Army veteran and a charter member of the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Lee Jenkins; a daughter, Dana Jenkins Neese of Springfield; four sons, Joe Jenkins of Mayodan, N.C., Doug Jenkins of Herndon, Larry Jenkins of Alexandria and Patrick Jenkins of Gainesville; a stepdaughter, Gina Fulp of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Ollie Mae J. Wiser of Lanham, Md.; two brothers, Garnett Jenkins of King George and Bobby Jenkins of Colonial Beach; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was also the widower of Ruby Ann Hatcher Jenkins. A funeral was held at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison, N.C., on Aug. 30, and at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, on Sept. 1. Burial was in National Memorial Park, Falls Church. Judith M. Curtis Clark 43 years
Judith M. Curtis Clark, 43, of King George County died of cancer at her home Friday, Sept. 7, 2001. Born in Fort Benning, Ga., she worked as a store manager for Discount Grocery in King George. Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Mae Guest of Colonial Beach; two sons, Ernest Marvin Guest of College Station, Texas, and Philip Andrew Guest of Fairbank, Pa.; her parents, Robert C. and Ruth Curtis of Colorado; a sister, Christine Dill of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Robert Curtis Jr. of Silver Spring, Md., Michael Curtis of Bluemont, Kevin Curtis of Aurora, Colo., and Thomas Curtis of Idaho Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren; and her companion, John Clark of the home. A funeral was held Monday at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home, King George. Burial was in Historyland Memorial Park in King George. The Rev. Sherman Davis officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Dahlgren Rescue Squad, Box 1375, Dahlgren, Va. 22448.

Pauline S. Chatham 80 years
Pauline S. Chatham, 80, of Westmoreland County died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hanover. Born in Tidwells, Mrs. Chatham was a member of Edgewater United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, J. Morgan Chatham; two daughters, Betty Johnson of Montross and Gail Francis of Powhatan; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral was held Tuesday at Welch Funeral Home in Montross. Burial will be in Carmel United Methodist Church cemetery. The Rev. Charles Dameron officiated. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Edgewater United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Irving Daiger, 129 Cardinal Lane, Montross, Va. 22520.

George W. Carrico Jr. 77 years
George W. Carrico Jr., 77, of Colonial Beach died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001 at his home. A native of Washington, Mr. Carrico was a World War II Air Force veteran and had retired from the General Services Administration. He was a volunteer fireman with Fairfax City Station No. 3 for 61 years. He was a member of the Colonial Beach Elks Lodge, the Colonial Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Colonial Beach Moose Lodge, the Fredericksburg Eagles, the Fairfax Masonic Lodge and the Fairfax American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Carrico of Colonial Beach; seven daughters; two sons; a sister; a brother; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held today at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in King George. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Colonial Beach Rescue Squad, 225 Dennison St., Colonial Beach, Va. 22443.

Charline Davis Wingate 74 years
Charline Davis Wingate, 74, of Richmond, formerly of Colonial Beach, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at her home. She suffered with emphysema. Born in Denver, Colo., she graduated from the University of Denver and taught English in both Denver and Westmoreland County. Survivors include her husband, Clark Wingate; two daughters, Carrie Rogers of Danville and Emily Prescott of West Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, Jeff Wingate of Colorado and Tal Wingate of Richmond; and two grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Lolly Wingate. A private funeral was held at the residence in Richmond.
