Brandon Swanson
Brandon Swanson, 20, of 710 Belmort Drive, Axton, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006.
He was the son of Stephanie Mathew and the stepson of Leon Mathew.
Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

Rose Thompson
Rose Thompson, 76, of 623 Old Leaksville Road, Ridgeway, died Sunday Jan. 15, 2006, at Moorehead Memorial Hospital in Eden, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther E Land and Hazel Fulp Land.
She was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. and is a member of Freedom Baptist Church. She was previously a long time member of Highland Baptist Church in Ridgeway where she was a Sunday school teacher.
She was retired from DuPont in Martinsville.
Surviving are a son, Gary M. Thompson of Ridgeway; two daughters, Sandra T. Butler of Midlothian and Penny Mosy of Madison, N.C.; a brother, Luke E. Land of Batavia, Ill.; a sister, Ann Dunning of Martinsville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Overlook Cemetary.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at 623 Old Leaksville Road in Ridgeway.
Fair Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Claude R. Ball
Claude Rose Ball, 57, of Cleveland, Ohio and formerly of Bassett, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in Cleveland.
Bassett Funeral Home in Bassett is in charge of arrangements.

Saige Bowman
Saige Elizabeth Bowman, 15, of 371 Woodberry Road, Bassett, died Sunday night, Jan. 15, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born Aug. 9, 1990, in Lynchburg, to Mark David Bowman, deceased, and Kimberly Brooks Newman.
She was a 10th grade student at Bassett High School, where she was in the BHS Band Color Guard, was a cheerleader and played softball. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bassett.
In addition to her mother and stepfather, Dennis A. Newman, surviving are a brother, Justin Glee Brandon Bowman of the home; a sister, Claire Brooke Bowman of Patrick County; grandparents, Vera and Jim Dodson, Robert Brooks, Elizabeth and Clifford Bowman and Lucille A. Newman; her great-grandfather, Alfred Martin; and a number of other relatives.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Collins Funeral Chapel at Bassett with the Rev. Lew Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Services from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Elvorena H. Deans
PIKEVILLE, N.C. -- Elvorena H. Deans, 89, of Bartlett Road, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Johnston County on June 29, 1916, to Leeroy Hatcher and Martha ÒStellaÓ Sellers Hatcher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delma L. Deans; and three brothers.
She was a member of the Goldsboro Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and past Sunday School teacher.
Surviving are four sons, Kenneth Deans of Pikeville, Sidney Deans of Bassett, Va., Jerry Deans of Raleigh and Randy Deans of Claytor; a daughter, Shelby Ward of Johnson City, Tenn.; a sister, Harriette Brown of Selma; six grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro with the Rev. Willard Hardison officiating.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Selma Memorial Gardens in Selma.
The family is receiving at the home of a son, Kenneth Deans, 932 Bartlett Road in Pikeville, and will be at the funeral home from 6:30 until time for the service Monday.

Robert E. Fuller
Robert Edward Fuller, 62, of Martinsville, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
He was the husband of Elizabeth F. Fuller of the home.
Hines Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

Sharon King
A funeral for Sharon Louise King, 53, of Chatham, who died Jan. 13, 2006, was held Monday at Community Funeral Services in Ridgeway. The Rev. Albert J. Robertson officiated and burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Matt Ingram, Glen Hollingsworth, Gene Biggs, Dennis McBride, Billy Bennett and Johnny Saunders.

Mira W. Millner
A funeral for Mira Witcher Millner, 84, of Martinsville, who died Jan. 12, 2006, was held Monday at Mount Sinai Apostle Church of Christ in God with Elder H.E. Millner officiating. Burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Nathaniel Carter, Dennis Walker, Joe Carter, Timothy Carter, Al Harris, William Hairston and Jackie Holland.
Hairston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Colene C. Mize
Colene C. Mize, 75, of Liberty, N.C. and formerly of Bassett, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro, N.C.
She was born Jan. 8, 1931, in North Carolina, to L.T. Cruthis and Mary Cruthis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Floyd C. Mize ; and several brothers and sisters.
She was a member of Friendly Baptist Church in Climax, N.C.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley M. Maurer of Horsepasture; six sons, Larry Ferguson of Julian, N.C., Leroy Mize of Liberty, N.C., Chester Mize Jr. of Mount Airy, N.C., Boyd Mize of Victoria, Tommy Mize and Billy Mize, both of Liberty, N.C.; a sister, Rosa Hedgecock of Climax; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be held at Bassett Funeral Service from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Hedgecock officiating. Burial will be in Shady Rest Cemetery at Bassett.

Vivian I. Quesenberry
Vivian I. Quesenberry, 77, of 187 Shumate Drive, Collinsville, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Carroll County on May 13, 1928, to Guy Edgar Nelson and Ila Gardner Nelson, both deceased.
She worked in the sewing department at Bassett-Walker from which she retired in 1984. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville.
Surviving are her husband, Roy C. Quesenberry of the home; a daughter, Becky Goad of Bassett; two sisters, Vernie Largen of Hillsville and Nancy King of Collinsville; four brothers Russell Nelson of Hillsville, Jimmy Nelson of Collinsville, Maynard Nelson of Salem and Gale Nelson of Lorten; and one granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Collinsville with the Rev. John Wiederholt officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.
