Worley

Anne Brown Worley, age 73, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997 in Bristol Nursing Home.

She was a native of Saltville and had lived in Bristol since graduating from Virginia Intermont College.

She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church where she had served on the Altar Guild. She was a charter member and past president of the Junior League of Bristol and was a charter member of the Three Arts Study Club. She was also a member of the 1931 History Club.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Worley Jr.; one daughter, Martha Anne McDonald, McDonough, Ga.; one son, Shelton B. Hillman, Bristol, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Betsy Haffner, Mobile, Ala., and Susan Simpson, Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church with the Rev. George Bunn officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Roy C. Brown Scholarship Fund, Virginia Intermont College, 1013 Moore St., Bristol, VA 24201.

Oakley-Cook Funeral Home in Bristol was in charge of arrangements.

Boyd

Mildred Rebecca Boyd, age 84, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997 at Richard's Memorial Hospital in Rockdale, Texas.

She was born Feb. 3, 1913 in DeWitt County, Texas, to William Rudolph Bluhm and Emily Augusta Boldt Bluhm. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, James Cody Boyd on Nov. 21, 1972. She was also preceded in death by her parents, William and Emily Bluhm; one sister, Lucille Bluhm; one brother, Billy Bluhm; and one great-grandson, James F. Debault.

She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Rockdale, Texas.

Surviving are two sons, Jerold (Jerry) C. Boyd and wife, Lillie Ann of Austin, Texas, and David H. Boyd and wife Carolyn, Rockdale, Texas; one daughter, Barbara L. Sturgill and husband Dick of Chilhowie; two brothers, Harry Bluhm and Earl Bluhm, both of Austwell, Texas; one sister, Dorothy Kelso of Austin, Texas; one sister-in-law, Flora Bluhm; 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Rockdale, Texas, with the Rev. Darren Donaldson officiating. Interment will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Lytton Springs Cemetery in Lytton Springs, Texas.

Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, Texas is in charge of arrangements.

Harris

Carl H. Harris, age 70, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997 at his home in Saltville.

He was a retired employee of Olin Corporation and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was preceded by his parents, James Robert and Mary Lou Harris; one son, James Steven Harris.

He was a trustee of the Madam Russell United Methodist Church, a member of the Saltville/Rich Valley Lions Club, the Saltville Community Liaison Panel and a member of the board of the Saltville Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Harris, Saltville; one daughter, Sally Harris, Christiansburg; two sons, Gregg Harris, Saltville, and Brian Harris, Bristol, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Becky Harris, Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Mary L. Hayton, Meadowview; two granddaughters, Brenta Harris Gerasimova, Bristol, Tenn., and Tracie Harris, Bassett; several nieces, nephews and cousins; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Robertson-Gouge officiating. Burial was in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville was in charge of arrangements.

Jolliffe

Stephen Reid Jolliffe, infant son of Andrew and Melissa Gragg Jolliffe, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Stephen Jolliffe of Marion; his paternal grandmother, Patricia Miles of Marion; his maternal grandparents, Barry and Shirley Gragg of Rural Retreat.

Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Marion.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Lefler

Stella Virginia Lefler, age 55, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Lefler and her father, Clyde Widner.

She is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Ann Boyd, Debora Sue Boyd and Tammy Lee Shultz, all of Marion; her mother, Lucille Kell Marshall of Marion; three stepsons, James Lefler, Ronald Lefler and David Lefler, all of Marion; one brother, Jimmy Lee Kell of North Port, Fla.; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at Seaver- Brown Chapel with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating. Burial followed in Middlefork Cemetery in Chilhowie.

Seaver- Brown Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Manuel

Leona Parks Manuel, age 65, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997 in a Roanoke hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloyd E. Manuel.

She is survived by two daughters, Gina Manuel of Greensboro, N.C., and Traci Zalaski of Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Dora Martin of Marion and Ruby Gillespie of Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services will be held today, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Gillman Funeral Chapel with interment in the Roselawn Cemetery in Marion at 1 p.m.

Gillman Funeral Chapel in Wytheville is in charge of arrangements.

Neal

Paul Carson Neal Sr., age 69, died Monday, Sept. 8, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mr. Neal was a native of Washington County and had lived in Smyth County and worked construction for most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Bernice Neal and two stepchildren, Carol Dennis Copeland and Robert Lee Copeland.

Survivors include one son, Paul Carson Neal Jr., Marion; three stepsons, Roland Eugene Copeland, Stephen City, Kenneth Ray Copeland, Roanoke, and Larry Copeland, Marion; three stepdaughters, Kitty Shell, Stephen City, Patricia Savage, South Carolina, and Cyndy Elliott, Chilhowie; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Barnett's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richardson

Edna Adams Richardson, age 79, of Quarryville, Penn. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, John Quincy and Lutisha Adams.

She is survived by one sister, Dora Adams Musser of Radford; one brother, Elmer Adams of Fairfax; two nieces, Judy Musser Barbre of Marion, and Pauline Musser Kirk of Christiansburg; three nephews, Bill Musser of Marion, Otto Musser of Radford, and David Musser of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one great-nephew, Jimmy Testerman of Marion.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel in Quarryville, Penn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
