Mary E. Lawrie
Mrs. Mary Eaton Lawrie, 80, of 801 Piedmont Ave., Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Geneva, N.Y., and had lived in Sergeantsville, N.J., before moving to Abingdon in 1967, then to Bristol seven years ago.
She was of the Christian faith, attended Roberts Beach School, graduated from William
Smith College, Geneva, in 1938 and was a volunteer and former officer with the American Red Cross.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Chiswell Chapter and was the widow of Archer Lawrie.
Survivors include three sons, Peter Eaton Lawrie, Bristol, Virginia, Willis Patten Lawrie, Hardy, Va., and James Woodman Lawrie, Marion; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Eaton White, Geneva; two brothers, Dr. Stephen W. Eaton, Allegany, N.Y., and Elon Howard Eaton Jr., Olmsted Falls, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

COEBURN -- Hazel S. Lawson, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, in Norton Community Hospital, Norton.
She attended the Spoken Word Tabernacle.
Survivors include six sons, John Lawson, Truman Lawson, Ralph Lawson, Carl Lawson and
Carter Lawson, all of Coeburn, and Roger Lawson, Wise; four daughters, Burita Winebarger, Clara Moore, Dorothy Poston and Jearline Maine, all of Coeburn; two step-daughters, Goldie Bolden, Radford, and Lola Ball, Coeburn; two brothers, Earl Salyers, Sandusky, Ohio and Hershel Salyers, Coeburn; one sister, Edith Adkins, Coeburn; 49 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.

Maggie C.V. Ring
ST. PAUL -- Maggie C.V. Meade Ring, 101, died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, at the home of her daughter in Vicco, Ky., where she had lived for several years.
She was a native of Russell County, a member of First Baptist Church, St. Paul and a member of The Golden Circle Sunday school class.
She was the widow of Samuel H. "Sam" Ring.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Sandra Jean) Branson Jr., Vicco; one son, James H. Ring, Bristol, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

MARION -- Carl "Buck" Scott, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 1997, in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Marine Corps.
He was a member of Furnace Hill Lutheran Church and was retired from Brunswick Corporation after 37 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret E. Scott; one son, Lawrence Eugene Scott, Roanoke; three daughters, Patricia "Pat" Bowman, Barbara Ann Anderson and Rebecca "Becky" Scott, all of Marion; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; one sister, Dorthy Haga, Plainsville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

RAVEN, Va. -- Mrs. Martha "Agnes" Smith, 74, of the Red Root section, died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native of Tazewell County and was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of Leck Smith.
Survivors include four daughters, Judy Rosado, California, Peggy Louise Murray, of the home, Margaret Shelton, Roanoke, and Diane Griffith, Raven; one son, Edward Smith, Texas; one sister, Margaret Meadows, Bandy, Va.; one brother, John Vandyke, War, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

RICH VALLEY, Va. -- Hurthel Angelo Thomas, 93, died Friday, Jan. 31, 1997, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
He was a member of Goodman's Chapel and a self-employed farmer for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Buchanan Thomas; three granddaughters, Linda Eller, Betty Sue Griffey and Carolyn Pauley; several nieces and nephews; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Brown Sr., 63, of Whispering Pine Lane, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was a native of Washington County and had lived in High Point, N.C., for many years before returning to Washington County in 1982.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, a member of the American Legion and was of the Baptist faith.

His father, Michael Wayne Cornett, and his brother, Michael Paul Cornett, both died in the same accident.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Cornett; his paternal grandparents, Elizabeth Juanita Cornett, Mountain City, and Harold Floyd Cornett Sr., Mountain City; his maternal grandparents, Lois Evitt, Canal Point, Fla., and L.C. Moore, Bellview, Florida; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
