Constance M. Parady

Constance M. Parady, 68, of Derby Line died peacefully on December 9, 2009, in Troy.
Mrs. Parady was born April 17, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Matthew and Eleanor (Tompkins) Carolan.
She married Larry K. Parady, who survives her.
She graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
She enjoyed collecting dolls and making dollhouses. She also enjoyed the company of her dog and cats.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Parady, of Troy; by two sons, Matthew Lovell and his wife, Lale, of Longmont, Colorado, and Bernard Scott Lovell and his wife, Maureen, of Danielson, Connecticut; and by her brother Jack Carolan of Florida.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Homes.

Howard W. “Junior” Payne Jr.

Howard W. “Junior” Payne Jr., age three, died in a tragic car accident on December 1, 2009,
Junior was born January 30, 2006, the beloved son of Howard Payne Sr. of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Bonnie Page of Troy.
He loved to do all the things that three-year-old little boys love to do like playing in the park with his father, air hockey, and with trucks, running around, and playing with his little brother Charlie and baby sister Soule.
He was a pure joy to have around and could light up a room with his smile and big heart. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love him.
He is survived by his father, Howard W. Payne Sr.; by his mother, Bonnie Page; by little brother Charlie; by baby sister Soule; by paternal grandparents Thomas A. and Julia Payne of Manchester and Frances B. Abildnes of Swan Lake, New York; by maternal grandfather Robert Page of Troy; by paternal great-grandmother Irene Payne of Manchester; and by multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Sylvia Page.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. A reception will be held at his aunt Barbara Payne’s home in Manchester on Sunday, December 20.

Claude J. Roberge

Claude J. Roberge, 60, of St. Johnsbury died December 9, 2009, in St. Johnsbury, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Roberge was born June 19, 1949, in Bonsiecour, Quebec, a son of Raoul and Rejeanne (Gagnon) Roberge.
On February 3, 1968, he married Trudy Willis, who survives him.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798 and American Legion Post 21 of Newport and was a second vice in the Legion.
He liked to hunt and ice fish and enjoyed watching his nephews play hockey.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling; they traveled to Florida several times.
He was a self-employed carpenter who built and worked on many projects in the area, until multiple sclerosis affected his ability to continue.
He will probably be remembered as the man people saw riding around Newport on his little red scooter with the flag on top.
He is survived by his wife, Trudy Roberge, of Derby Line; by siblings: Bertrand Roberge and his wife, Gisele, of Stanstead, Jacques Roberge and his wife, Susan, of Newport, Omer Roberge and his wife, Rhonda, of Newport, Gaetan Roberge and his wife, Lori, of South Carolina, Guy Roberge and his wife, Faye, of Florida, Lise Hickey and her husband, James, of Florida, Claudette Starr and her husband, John, of North Troy, Pauline Routhier and her husband, Roger, of Newport, and Gaetane Patenaude and her husband, Marcel, of Holland; by his in-laws: John Willis and his wife, Donna, of Florida, Duane Willis and his wife, Beverly, of Florida, Marlene Bullis and her husband, Joseph, of Derby, and Jody Cleveland and her husband, Mark, of Barton; by his mother-in-law, Thelma Willis, of Derby Line; and by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; and by his twin sister, Claudette, in 1949.
Funeral services were held December 14 at the Church of the Nazarene in Newport with the Reverend Paul Prince officiating. Spring interment will be in the Morgan Center cemetery.

Lois Mary Camley

Lois Mary Camley, 83, of Newport, formerly of East Hardwick, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville.
Mrs. Camley was born April 6, 1926, in Calais, a daughter of Melburn and Cecilia (Shatney) Lowell. She attended Wolcott public schools.
On June 24, 1957, she married Kenneth W. Camley in Craftsbury.
She stayed at home to care for her family. She enjoyed taking long walks, visiting with family and friends, and playing cards.
Survivors include three sons: Neil Lowell of Lyndonville, Kenneth Camley of East Hardwick, and Robert Camley of Newport; daughter Mary Camley of Eden; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry Lowell of Danville and Philip Lowell of Lyndonville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents; by her husband, Kenneth, on August 2, 1994; by her grandson David Camley; and by five siblings: Edwin, Bernard, Franklin, and Neil Lowell and Cedilia Fairbanks.
A memorial service was held December 8 at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home. Inurnment followed in the family lot in the Main Street cemetery in Hardwick.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Camley’s memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 114 Perimeter Road, Unit G&H, Nashua, New Hampshire 03063.

Robert Edward Foss

Robert Edward Foss, 80, of Tampa, Florida, died peacefully on November 24, 2009, in Tampa.
Mr. Foss was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, on November 16, 1929, and raised in Island Pond.
He was valedictorian of the class of 1947 at Brighton High School and graduated cum laude from the University of Vermont. He received his master’s degree in French from Middlebury College and furthered his studies at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, for two years on a Fulbright Scholarship. He later attended the Army Language School at the Presidio to learn Mandarin Chinese.
He served his country during the Korean War. After his discharge, he taught in several U.S. schools, in Cambodia, and for more than 20 years in Beirut, Lebanon.
Since his retirement, he had lived in Tampa. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Island Pond Historical Society.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edmund and Marion Maroney Foss; and by his brother Raymond Foss.
He was of the Catholic faith, and religious services will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in the family plot at Lakeside cemetery is Island Pond.

Mavis E. Nunn

Mavis E. Nunn, 80, of Stannard died peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Nunn was born July 11, 1929, in Stannard, a daughter of Clifford and Bernice (Day) Winchester. She attended Stannard public schools and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1947.
In July 1967 she married Harold Byron Nunn at the church in Stannard.
In her earlier years she cared for young children in New York State. She worked for the telephone company in Greensboro and was a cook at the Greensboro Nursing Home. For 25 years she was a cook at Sterling College on Craftsbury Common. She retired in the early 1990s.
She was a member of the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church. As a young woman she was a member of the Young Republican Club in St. Johnsbury. She was one of several to earn a trip to Washington, D.C., which was a highlight in her younger years.
Survivors include her husband, Harold, of Stannard; stepbrother Stewart Daige of Eden; stepsister Sylvia Dopp of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents.
Funeral services were held December 6 at the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church. Burial was held in the family lot in the Stannard cemetery on December 6.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Nunn’s memory may be made to the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 813, Greensboro Bend, Vermont 05842.

Bernard R. Wilson

Bernard R. Wilson, 82, of Island Pond died December 2, 2009, at his home in Island Pond.
Mr. Wilson was born July 30, 1927, in Island Pond, a son of Alvin and Elsie (Crowe) Wilson.
He married Sylvia (Woodard) Blake in 1954. She predeceased him in 1986.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps.
He worked on the railroad for 20 years, reopened the Clyde River Hotel, and ran it until he sold it in 2002. He was cemetery sexton for 25 years. He painted houses and bought and sold land. He logged most of his life until two years ago.
He was very well known throughout the area and had many good friends. He was always very friendly and was a generous man. He always had to be busy doing something. His greatest pleasures were his family and working in the woods.
He and his late wife always tended to their garden.
He was a life member of American Legion Post 80 of Island Pond.
He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his children and their spouses: Jerry and Kathy Blake and Marcia and Walter Driscoll; by his grandchildren: Lisa Trombly and her husband, Bruce, of Milton, Kelly Senesac and her husband, Dale, of Fairfax, Heidi Blake of Sarasota, Florida, Terry Blake and his companion, Emily Hilliker, of Island Pond, Heather Marcoux and her husband, Eric, of Island Pond, Ryan Driscoll and his companion, Jennifer Barnes, of Island Pond, and Erik Driscoll and his companion, Morgan Manzi, of Island Pond; by his step grandchildren Danielle and Derrick Dupuis; by his great-grandchildren: Bradley and Danielle Trombly, Cameron, Corey, Faith, and Colby Marcoux, Grant and Gabe Blake, and Jaime, Dakotah and Owen Senesac; by his brothers Rodney Wilson of Bangor, Maine, and Lanny Wilson of Connecticut; by his sisters Gay Wilson Labell and Beverly Wilson, both of Connecticut; and by cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Carol Blake in 1999; by three brothers: Kenneth, John and Terry; by his sister Geraldine Wilson Keen; and by a special uncle, Irving Wilson.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Should friends desire, contributions in Mr. Wilson’s memory may be made to any Island Pond church.

Brian J. Woodard

Brian J. Woodard, 18, of Troy died suddenly on December 1, 2009, in Troy.
Mr. Woodard was born January 15, 1991, in Hopewell, Virginia, son of Ernest Woodard and Renee Warner Woodard.
He liked to fish, work on cars, draw, and play with children. He was looking forward to the skiing season and working at Jay Peak, where he had worked for a few previous seasons. He always enjoyed his dog Duke.
He is survived by his mother, Renee Woodard, of Troy; by his stepfather, Kirk Wilcox, of Troy; by his father, Ernest Woodard, and his wife, Tina, of Mannheim, Germany; by his sister Cassandra Cota of Newport Center; by his fiancée, Bonnie Page, and her children Charles and Soule of Troy; and by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held December 8 with the Reverend David Lisner officiating at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to Passumpsic Savings Bank, in care of the Brian Woodard Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 218, Newport, Vermont 05855, for Bonnie Page and her children.
