HUBERT "MICKEY" LARY
(April 12, 1926 - June 18, 2011)
U.S. Veteran

Rochester, VT - Hubert "Mickey" Lary, 85, died at home in Rochester, VT on Saturday, June 18, 2011, surrounded by his family, as he wished.

Hubert was born April 12, 1926 in Rochester, VT to Wilbur Eugene Lary and Ethel Flanders Lary in the house built by his grandparents. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1944 as salutatorian, the same year he was captain of the 1944 Class "C" State Champion Basketball Team. Before graduation he had enlisted in the Navy, where he later trained as a gunner on the USS Wyoming. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He attended the University of Rhode Island on the GI Bill, graduating in 1950. On December 27, 1952 he married Patricia Martin at her parents' home at Martin Farm. He taught at the Vermont School of Agriculture (now VTC) and was a dedicated teacher and coach at Rochester High School for nearly 30 years. Mickey was interested in people, reading, sports, working on his woodpile, and hiking, especially with his grandchildren. He hiked the Long Trail End-to-End.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Lary; daughters Patrice Lary Buxton of South Hadley, MA and Melinda Lary of Rochester, VT; sons Dicken Lary of Hancock, VT, Martin "Zeus" Lary of Rochester, VT, and Michael Lary of Randolph, VT; grandchildren Dane, Remy, Anna, Ryder, Haley and Haddie; great-grandchildren Ryan and Tyler, and several nieces and nephews. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brother Harold Lary, sister Christine Lary Laffan, and nephew Gerald Lary Laffan.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Woodlawn cemetery in Rochester, VT. A reception will follow at Fellowship Hall at the Federated Church in Rochester. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to: Visiting Nurse and Hospice of VT and NH .PO Box 976, White River, VT 05001-0976 or Camp Ta Kum Ta (a camp for children with cancer) PO Box 576, Waterbury, VT 05676. MICHAEL P. MASON
(Died June 14, 2011)
U.S. Veteran

Randolph - Michael P. Mason, 59, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

He was born January 5, 1952 in Newport the son of Theodore and Audrey (Lanou) Mason.

Michael attended Randolph schools and graduated from Braintree-Randolph Union High School in 1970. Following his education, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged from the service Michael returned home to Randolph where he worked as a mechanic for Rodco, Vermont Castings, Vermont Pure and NAPA all in Randolph. Most recently he had worked at Northern Motorsports in Wilder. Michael enjoyed auto racing, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his brother Gary Mason of Braintree, his sister Judy A. Camp of Mt. Pleasant, NC, a niece, a nephew and a great-nephew. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Donna Mason.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be held Tuesday, June 21, 11:00 A.M. at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery, Randolph Center with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling officiating. There are no calling hours.

LOUISE E. BENT
(January 20, 1920 - June 12, 2011)

Williamstown, VT - LOUISE E. BENT, 91, of Williamstown, died Sunday morning, June 12, 2011 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, VT.

She was born January 20, 1920 in Royalton, VT; the daughter of Chester and Lena Morse. She was raised in South Royalton, and graduated from South Royalton High School. Louise was married to Herbert A. Bent in Randolph on June 1, 1946, and they lived in Barre and Williamstown for many years. He passed away in 1996. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and had worked at Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin and the McFarland House in Barre. She had been a crossing guard in the City of Barre, and was a member of the United Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, reading, and riding motorcycle.

Survivors include her son, Stephen Bent of St. Albans; daughters, Charlotte Stevens of Williamstown, Lillian Wessel of Wilder, Rita Riles of LaJolla, CA; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Smith; brother, Chet Morse, and sister, Lucy Lyman.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 20th at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph, with Mr. Geoffrey Moore, officiating. Burial will follow at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph Center. There are no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to Brookside Nursing Home, Patient Activity Fund, 1200 Christian Street, White River Junction, VT 05001, or to the Veterans Medical Center, Volunteer Services, 215 N. Main, White River Junction, VT 05009.

MICHAEL BOYLE
(August 12, 1978 - June 6, 2011)

Michael James Boyle, 32, died unexpectedly Monday June 6th.

Michael’s biggest joy and proudest moment in life was the birth of his daughter Molly Elizabeth and the times he shared with her. Michael enjoyed his time spent with family and friends on Hampton Beach where he was raised. He also enjoyed camping and watching movies. Although Michael’s biological family was small, he shared his life with his extended family and many friends. Michael also shared his life with his long time companion Bethany Palazzo and her children Adam, Lauren and Shawn.

Michael leaves behind his mother MaryAnn and her partner Sue Moreau, his father James Boyle, his daughter Molly Elizabeth and her mother Jessi Swiontkowski, his brother John Rossi-Boyle and his wife Paulette. His nephew Johnathan and his nieces Michaela and McKenzie. His extended family included Jason Henderson and Jenny Ashcraft and their children.

We will All miss your presence here on Earth every single day. We hope you are in Peace. We love you Mikey!

Memorial Services were held Friday afternoon, June 10th at Bethany United Church of Christ, with Rev. Robin Junker, officiating.

PHILIP C. FREY
(January 22, 1929 - June 1, 2011)
U.S. Veteran

Scarborough, ME - On Wednesday morning, June 1st, Philip Frey of Randolph, Vermont passed away at the Veteran’s Administration home in Scarborough, Maine after a year long struggle with congestive heart failure. He will be remembered as a dynamic, engaging personality, a hard worker who cared deeply about the cause of public education, and a very loving, wonderful father. Philip had years of proud service in the US Marine Corps. He worked as an industrial arts teacher and public school administrator in New York State. He taught philosophy of education for five years at C.W.Post College on Long Island, New York. Philip served for twelve years as a Title 1/Chapter 1 consultant for the State of Vermont. Philip enjoyed a peaceful retirement. He was very grateful to have been able to live in Randolph and was well liked throughout the community. He kept in touch with a large network of friends though annual Christmas letters and phone calls. Throughout the years Philip enjoyed traveling with his family and after retirement took several trips though the southern states and visited his son in Germany. Philip worked hard to create the best life for his family and was proud to have been able to provide good environments. As they were growing up he brought his children to many museums, galleries and other cultural resources. He was a talented builder and designed and built several houses in New York and Vermont. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan and his son Philip Jr and his daughter Barbara. Memorial Services and military honors will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, June 9th at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center, with Rev. Robin Junker, officiating. A reception hosted by the Randolph Rotary Club will follow at Rotary’s Grant Camp on Hebard Hill Road near Route 66.

CARRIE L. BESSETTE
(December 21, 1928 - June 3, 2011)

Hancock, VT - CARRIE L. BESSETTE, 82, of Hancock, died Friday evening, June 3, 2011 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

She was born December 21, 1928 in Pittsford, VT; the daughter of Howard and Theresa (McCullough) O’Neil. She was raised and schooled in Pittsford, and moved to the Hancock area in the 1960’s. She was married to Frederick Baird, Bill Walker, and Thomas Bessette; all of whom pre-deceased her. She had worked at Weyerhauser Products in Hancock as a quality inspector for 30 years, as well as Hancock Café and Hubbard’s Store. She enjoyed baking and was known as the “donut lady of Hancock”. Carrie was a member of Moss Glen Grange and the Community Church of Hancock-Granville. She had been director, site manager and cook at Quin-Town Senior Center.

Survivors include her longtime companion, Paul Crete of Bethel; daughters, Laura Devoid of Middlebury, Linda Baird and Carol Baird; stepson, Robert Walker of White River Junction; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her brothers, Malcolm, James, and Howard O’Neil, and sisters, Dorothy Waters and Mary Cox.

Memorial Services HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO 10:30am Saturday, June 18th at the Community Church of Hancock-Granville in Hancock, with Rev. Wayne Holsman, officiating. Burial will follow at the Hancock Village cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to Valley Rescue, P.O. Box 131, Rochester, VT 05767.

WILLIAM HATT JOINER
(October 6, 1936 - May 31, 2011)

East Bethel, VT - WILLIAM H. JOINER, 74, of East Bethel, died early Tuesday morning, May 31, 2011 at his home.

He was born October 6, 1936 in New York City, NY; the son of Joseph and Helen (Hatt) Joiner. He was raised in Livingston and Chatham, NJ and had lived in Thetford, VT and Lebanon, NH before moving to Bethel in 2002. William had been the owner-operator of Recreational Sales Company, then worked for Thompson Arena at Dartmouth College. He was a 48 year member, and served two terms as Master Chair of the Jackson Masonic Lodge in West Fairlee, which later merged with Charity Masonic Lodge of Bradford. He served as state and local President of the New Hampshire Junior Bowlers League and taught many young people to bowl. William had served as both Deputy Chief and Acting Chief of the Thetford Fire Department, and was a founding member of the Thetford FAST Squad. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and meeting new friends.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Louise Munyon of East Bethel; son, William J. Joiner of Durango, CO; daughters, Michelle Monmaney of Canaan, NH and Jennifer Miloy of Charlotte, NC; step-sons, James Munyon of Stockbridge, and Jeffrey Munyon of Middletown, DE; sisters, Nancy Hack of Meredith, NH and Placida, FL, Beryl Joiner of Cumberland, ME, and Susan Rudloff of Littleton, CO; ex-wife, Margaret Huggett; nine grandchildren.

Memorial Services and Masonic Ritual will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, June 11th at Day Funeral Home in Randolph, with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling, officiating. There are no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to First Descents, 6000 Greenwood Village Plaza Blvd, Suite #120, Greenwood Village, CO 80111.

GENEVA E. DEYETTE
(Died May 24, 2011)

West Braintree - Geneva E. Deyette, 87, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

She was born July 9, 1923 in Randolph, the daughter of Charles and Lula (Johndro) Davis.

Geneva was a life-long Braintree area resident and attended Braintree schools. She was married to Lauris Deyette. They were later divorced. Geneva worked at Merrimaids in Randolph and later worked at Ethan Allen Furniture in Randolph for many years. After leaving Ethan Allen Geneva cared for her parents in their home. She enjoyed caring for her yard, flowers and the outdoors. She especially enjoyed being with her family. Geneva was a member of the Randolph Baptist Fellowship.

She is survived by a son Leicester L. Deyette of Colchester, a daughter Cheryl Lloyd of Randolph, 3 sisters; Audrey Lemery of Swanton, Fleda Stone of W. Braintree and Charlene Gehlbach of S. Burlington, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by 3 brothers; Richard, Norman and Ardin Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 28th at the Randolph Baptist Fellowship (Rte.66) with Pastor George Sweet officiating. Calling hours will be Friday evening 7:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Day Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mountain View cemetery, W. Braintree at a later date.
