BARBARA QUILLIA COLTON
(November 30, 1932 - January 14, 2015)

Pittsfield, VT - Our beloved Wife, Mom, Gram and Nana, Barbara (Quillia) Colton, 82, passed away peacefully at her Pittsfield home Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

Barb was born November 30, 1932 in Rochester, Vermont the daughter of Beatrice (Kent) Quillia and Clarence Quillia. The family moved to Florence, Vermont in 1937 and Barb attended school there until 1941, when the family moved back to Rochester. She completed her education in Rochester schools, graduating from Rochester High School in the Class of 1950 as the class Valedictorian. Following graduation, she worked as a payroll clerk and secretary at Blair Plywood, later known as Weyerhauser in Hancock. Barb married Melvin Colton of Pittsfield October 6, 1951 and they lived most of their married life in Pittsfield. She was an active member of the Pittsfield Federated Church, Pittsfield Civic Club, Home Dem and the Quin-Town Senior Center. She never met a crossword puzzle she didn't like, nor a book that didn't beg to be read. She loved and collected angels, hearts, pitchers and Teddy Bears. Her orange rolls were legendary within the family, as was her French Meat Pie (Tortiere) which she lovingly made for holidays. Barb was a woman of quiet faith, and was a prayer warrior, faithfully praying daily for family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Mel Colton, as well as her three children: One daughter, Lynne Colton Domina and husband, David of Cambridge, Vermont; two sons, Charles (Chuck) Colton and wife, Stephanie; and son David and wife, Mona all of Pittsfield. Five grandchildren; Jeremy Domina of Seattle, Washington; Molly Domina of Nashua, New Hampshire; Hannah Colton of West Topsham, Vermont; Sarah McCullough and husband, Rupert of Bethel, Vermont and SSGT Jonathan Colton of Mt. Home Air Base, Mt. Home, Idaho; and two great grandsons, Colton and Jackson McCullough. She is also survived by her oldest brother, Raymond Quillia, of Rochester, Vermont. Barb was predeceased by her parents, Beatrice and Clarence Quillia, her brother, George Quillia, her sisters-in-law, Lena Quillia and Arlene Quillia and two nieces, Gail Quillia and Dawn Quillia. Her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lena and Charlie Colton also predeceased her as well as her brother-in-law, Gary Colton

A celebration of Barb's life at Pittsfield Federated Church will be announced in the spring. Burial will be at the Pittsfield Village cemetery. There are no calling hours. PATRICIA R. LAWRENCE
(October 18, 1955 - January 14, 2015)

Wilton, ME - formerly of Braintree, VT

Patricia Ryle Lawrence, 59, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Menig Extended Care in Randolph.

She was born October 18, 1955 in St. Albans the daughter of Ryle and Rachel (Audy) Dow. Pat was raised in St. Albans and attended the University of Vermont where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. She was married to Douglas Lawrence in Swanton in 1978. The Lawrence’s had lived in Presque Isle, ME, Mendon, VT, Randolph Center and Braintree, VT before moving to Wilton, ME. Pat had worked at A.R. Gould Hospital in Presque Isle, ME, Washington (VT) County Visiting Nurses and had been a physical therapist at Gifford Medical Center for 29 years before working at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, ME. Her memberships included St. John’s Episcopal Church, Paulette’s Punchettes rug hooking group and ADPi Sorority. She enjoyed sewing, camping, kayaking and loon watching and was a certified punch needle hooking instructor.

She is survived by her husband Douglas Lawrence of Wilton, ME, a daughter Liz Lawrence of S. Burlington, 5 sisters; Cindy Martell of Georgia, VT, Debbie Britton of Wilkesboro, NC, Kareen Wortman of MA, Christine Anderson of Louisville, KY and Alita Phelps of NH, 2 brothers; Galen Dow of Georgia, VT and Richard Dow of W. Rutland.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 17th at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Susan Taylor officiating. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Gifford Medical Center Auxiliary, PO Box 2000, Randolph, VT 05060. Online condolences may be left at www.dayfunerals.com. JEAN M. WILSON
(Died January 6, 2015)

Randolph - formerly of Rochester, Jean Marion Terry Wilson, 91, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Menig Extended Care in Randolph.

She was born in Birmingham, England on September 28, 1923 to parents Leonard and Sarah Terry. She married Rev. David E. Wilson, III in 1945 in Keresly, England, having met during the Second World War while Jean was a member of the British Women’s Royal Naval Service and David was a soldier with the U.S. Armed Forces. Jean came to the US in 1946 and lived in many New England states. She moved to Vermont in 1953 and retired in 1982. She was a member of the Community Church of Hancock and very active in the community.

She is survived by her son David E. Wilson, IV; her daughters, Linda Dey and Mary Cook, a brother John Terry, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1976 and by her brother Christopher Terry and sister Barbara Jordan.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, January 10th at the Rochester Federated Church with Rev. Gregory Homan officiating. There are no calling hours.

EDWARD "ED" F. KING
(July 10, 1939 - October 22, 2014)

Raleigh, NC - Former Randolph resident, Edward (Ed) F. King, born on July 10, 1939 in Springfield, Ma. to the late Edward F and Sylvia Bernier King, died on October 22, 2014 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh NC after a brief illness.

Ed graduated from Agawam High School in Agawam, Ma in 1957. After training with the Massachusetts National Guard, Ed worked for AT&T; and Verizon as a communications technician for 40 years in Massachusetts and Vermont. He was married to the late Louise Anne Kelleher in 1960 and later divorced. Ed married Iris (Chase) St. Lawrence on February 26, 1988. They lived in Randolph, Vt. before moving to Raleigh, NC. in 2011. Ed is survived by his wife Iris and ten children; Edward Michael of Bethlehem, NH, Steven of St Johns Island, SC, James Scott (and Sally), James, Paul (and Dianne) and John Bradley of Lebanon NH, Susan (and Chris) Howell of Hobe Sound FL and Tammy of Everett Ma. Two step-children Jeremy (and Lisa) St. Lawrence of Williamstown, VT and Chad St. Lawrence of Allston, MA. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Ed has many brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws in and around Randolph VT, NC, and NY In semi-retirement Ed and Iris owned and operated a Gift Shop called the King and I in Randolph VT for ten years. Ed served on the Planning and Zoning board in Randolph and volunteered with Hospice and Stage Coach. Ed was a long time Rotarian in Randolph, serving as Secretary before relocating. He installed scores of Lifelines as part of a Rotarian Community Service Program. Ed was best known for his story telling and world famous fudge. Ed enjoyed helping people and had a big heart for everyone.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Randolph Vt. In lieu of flowers please make donations to a local Food Bank or Humane Society of your choice in his memory.

MADGE DAVIS
(Died October 21, 2014)

Bethel, VT - MADGE M. DAVIS, 86, of Bethel, died Tuesday morning, October 21, 2014 at Medway Manor in Medway, MA.

She was born February 9, 1928 in Monroe Township, NJ; the daughter of Perrie W. and Matie (Wells) Montrey. She was raised in Old Bridge, NJ, and lived there until her marriage to Richard Davis in 1950. They then moved to Keyport, NJ where they lived until moving to Bethel in 1971. She and her husband operated Ditchwitch North, Inc., until retiring in 1991. She was a member of the United Church of Bethel and the Bethel Women’s Club, and enjoyed swimming and sailing.

Survivors include her son, Richard A. Davis of Bethel; daughters, Wendy Lynn Trautvetter of Rockledge, FL, Donna Lee Bjune of Scottsdale, AZ, and Linda Jean Davis of Millis, MA, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard in 2013, by her brother, Ralph Montrey, and sisters, Ella Sengstack and Delora VanOrnum.

At Madge’s request, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army, 25 Keith Avenue, Barre, VT 05641.

Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

TECKLA CHAP
(June 6, 1941 - October 15, 2014)

Stockbridge, Vt. - Teckla Chap, 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday evening, Oct. 15, 2014.

Teckla was born in Tarrytown, N.Y. on June 6, 1941, to Louis and Helen Chap. The family soon relocated to the Stonybrook Valley of Stockbridge, Vt., when Teckla was a small child. She attended and graduated from Whitcomb High School, before beginning a career in the graphic arts in New York City. She completed the art program at Delehanty Institute and would later become the first female to join the Typographer’s Union, working for many years for Haber Publishing. She would continue to expand her horizons, purchasing an historic landmark brownstone home in Greenwich Village, N, Y.

Deciding to return to her roots, she moved back to Vermont in 1982, where she enjoyed raising pets, dog sitting, and gardening. She was involved in the community through fundraising efforts, sign making, and caring for the elderly, and was an active member of the Gaysville Community Church.

She was employed at Stanley Tool for many years and took great pride in creating tools made in the U.S.A.

She loved learning about other cultures and recently made a journey to Ireland, which was part of her heritage. She was a marvelous cook and always found time to donate baked goods and unique salads for area fundraisers. Teckla loved the ocean and would make regular visits the coast of Maine.

Teckla is survived by Peter and Ellen Chap and family, of South Royalton; Louis and Susan Chap and family, of Stockbridge; and Nancy Boyd and family of Sacramento, Calif. Teckla was and is also loved and remembered by 11 nieces and nephews and their children.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Konstantine Dragnev and the medical staff at DHMC, the Stockbridge Volunteer Fire Department, the members of the Gaysville Community Church, Pastor Tom Harty, Mary Ellen Dorman and Betty Hulbert, along with so many others, for their care and kindness.

Memorial services will be held at the Gaysville Community Church on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the Stockbridge Central School.

HARRIET ELIZABETH LAVENDER
(August 7, 1911 - January 10, 2014)

Harriet Elizabeth Lavender of Brookfield died at Menig Extended Care in Randolph on Friday, January 10, 2014.

She was born August 7, 1911 in Schenectady, NY and lived on Lavender Road in Brookfield for 80 of her 102 years. Harriet was a dairy farmer with her husband John and worked at the Herald of Randolph for 40 years.

She was predeceased by husband John in 1969, a son Dennis in 1957, her Sister Catherine Clark of Albany, NY in 1989, her brother Henry Hewitt of East Bethel, VT in 1986, and her mother Elizabeth Hewitt. Harriet leaves; Son Jack and daughter-in-law Sandy of Knoxville, TN. Grandson Patrick (Michelle) of Nashville, TN, Eric, and Dale (Amy) of Knoxville, TN. Great grandchildren Carson, Brady, Josh, Patrick and Madison Son David and daughter-in-law Cindy of Brookfield, VT. Granddaughters Tracey Carpenter (Eric) of Williamstown, VT and Carrie Paull (Justin) of South Berwick, ME. Great grandchildren Taylor, Parker, Kane, Jax, Hudson, and Charlilze. Daughter Patricia Mercier of Brookfield, VT. Grandson Matthew (Melinda) of Stockbridge, VT and granddaughter Melissa Hamel (Michael) of Merrimack, NH. Great grandchildren Maxwell, Chase and Cara Elizabeth. Nieces Frances Avella of Atkinson, NH and Ora Schongar of Cohoes, NY.

There are no calling hours. Burial and a memorial service is planned for this spring. Day’s Funeral home of Randolph is handling the arrangements.
