NORMA L. GADOUAS
SWANTON - Norma L. Gadouas, 81, a longtime resident of 28 Platt Street in Swanton Village, died early Tuesday morning, April 25, 2006, in her home with family by her side.

Born at home in Schuyler Falls, N.Y. on Feb. 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Sophia (Paquette) Dashnaw. She attended Peru Central School and was married to Armand J. Gadouas who predeceased her on Dec. 23, 1996, after 44 years of marriage.

Norma worked for more than 40 years at the former Fonda Container Corporation of St. Albans. She was a member of The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and also in earlier years was very active in the parish Ladies of St. Anne. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Robert Glidden Post 758 Auxiliary since 1964.

Norma loved to bowl and was a WBA League member. She bowled two nights a week and always looked forward to her Monday and Wednesday nights out. Norma could also pitch a pretty mean horseshoe in her day. She was an avid Red Sox fan and finally was able to see them win the World Series in 2004, along with the faithful Red Sox Nation. This was a longtime dream for she and her husband.

Norma was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and has countless pictures in her home and was proud to show them off. Sunday was family day until she became ill. Her greatest joy was having family arrive for Sunday dinners, which she always cooked with pride, looking forward to everyone being there. Also included in her family were three feline companions: Friskie, Ginger and Mitzi. They added great joy companionship and comfort.

Norma leaves two daughters: Beverly Coleman and her husband, Doug of Swanton and Carol Winchester of Burlington; two sons: Gary Gadouas and his companion, Carol Graham and Henry Gadouas and his wife, Linda, all of Swanton; 11 grandchildren: Kelly (Coleman) Merrill and husband Todd, Chris J. Coleman, David Winchester and wife Katherine, Jon Winchester, Casey, Tobie, Colleen, Samantha, and Tyler Gadouas and Majken and Matthew Gadouas; five great-grandchildren: Cody Bushey, Cuyler Gadouas and Hanna Rose Worth and Mikayla and Mattheau Merrill; a sister, Gladys Maulding of Swanton; and a sister-in-law, Mary Dashnaw of Ocala, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three brothers: Jack, Guy and Norbert Dashnaw; three sisters: Florence Covell and husband Martin, Dorothy Dermody and husband Tom and Edna Ormsby and husband Martin.

Norma’s family wishes to thank her caregivers, Dianna, Rose and Kim, for the wonderful care and support given during her illness. Also to the many nurses who came to her home to care for and help her through her illness, in particular, Tracie Pilbin a true “Angel of Mercy.”

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, May 1, 2006, at 3 p.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Interment will follow in the Gadouas family lot in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Sunday, April 30, 2006, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Gifts in Norma’s Memory may be made to the Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans 05478; or to the Ronald McDonald House, 16 South Winooski Ave., Burlington 05401.

KEVIN JAMES SMITH
SWANTON - Kevin James Smith, 51, a lifelong resident of this area, died Tuesday morning, April 25, 2006, at his Highgate Road residence.

Born in St. Albans on May 9, 1954, he was the son of the late Merald and Justine (Lawyer) Smith. He graduated from Missisquoi Valley Union High School with the Class of 1972, and on Sept. 1, 1973, was married to the former Patricia Begnoche, who predeceased him on Sept. 3, 1976.

Prior to his disability Kevin was the owner and sole proprietor of Smith Taxi in the St. Albans area for nearly 10 years. Earlier he also had a long association with Green Mountain Forest Products.

Kevin leaves two sons: David and his companion, Melaney Cyr of Berkshire, and Roger of Swanton; his former wife and step-mom to his boys: Ellen “Punken” Morgan; and a step-daughter, Jen Gerrow, both of Sheldon; two grandchildren, Cole and Emily Smith of Berkshire; three step-grandchildren, Dillon, Caleb and Dakota Gerrow, all of Sheldon; a sister, Fern Smith; and a brother, Terry Smith, both of Swanton; very close family friends: Dick and Lorraine Rollo, Donnie Conn, Steve Rocheleau and Dawn and Dale Palmer; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2006, at 11 a.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral.

JEAN F. THOMAS
ST. ALBANS - Jean F. Thomas, 90, a longtime area resident, passed away early Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at the Haven Health Care Facility with her family at her side. She was born in Hamden, Conn. on Sept. 15, 1915, the
daughter of the late John P. and Lulu (Cairns) Forrest. On Feb. 4, 1940, in
Bethel, Vt., she married Frederick C. Thomas Jr., who survives her.

Jean retired in 1979 after 22 years as the school nurse at St. Albans Elementary School. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational
Church, where she was a Deacon, Past President of the Women’s Fellowship and a member of the Fireside Club, a member of the Watchful Circle of King’s Daughters and Vermont Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Fred of St. Albans; three sons: Frederick C. Thomas III and his wife, Jeanne of Antioch, Ill., David F.
Thomas and his wife, Marie of Hyde Park and Richard D. Thomas and his wife, Beth of St. Albans; her sister-in-law, Jennie Forrest of Springfield, Vt.; seven grandchildren: Charles Thomas, Victoria Richardson, Marc Thomas,
Gregory Thomas, Aaron Thomas, Jennifer Biser and Angela Cassidy; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by a great-grandson, Ethan E. Biser on Aug. 16, 2005; a brother, John P. Forrest in 2004; and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Thomas in 1998.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 1, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church on Church Street with the Reverend Judy Steger Kennedy officiating. There will be no public visitation. Interment will be in the Thomas family lot in Greenwood Cemetery.

HAROLD H. HOAGUE, SR.
ENOSBURGH - Mr. Harold H. Hoague Sr., age 67, died Saturday, April 22. 2006, at his home, with his loving family at his bedside, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Swanton, June 25, 1938, son of William F. and Fabiola (Cears) Hoague. He married Wanda Westover, Dec. 3, 1956. Harold worked most of his life as a dairy farmer. He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1090. He enjoyed fishing, playing pool and card games.

He is survived by his wife Wanda; his daughters: Debbie Ladieu and her husband, Duane of Enosburgh, Mary Bartlett of St. Albans, Donna Irish and her husband, John of San Diego, Calif., Tammy Aylward and her husband, Robert of Highgate Center, and Fay Cummings and her husband, Brian of Bedford, Quebec; his sons: Harold Hoague Jr. of Richford, Bill Hoague of Enosburgh, and Ray Hoague and his wife, Tina of Swanton; 22 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyne Nichols of St. Albans and Violetta Popper of Hartford, Mass.; several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Raymony Hoague; and a sister, Janet Hanson.

A Celebration of his life will be held at his home, 1263 Boston Post Rd., Enosburgh, Vt., Saturday, April 29, at 12 noon. There are no visiting hours.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home and Commemorative Services.

GILLES AIME BOUDREAU
Gilles Aime Boudreau passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington, Vt. surrounded by his loving family.

Gilles was born on May 14, 1925, in Highgate, Vt., the son of Eugene and Maria Fournier Boudreau. Gilles was a World War II veteran who served in the Navy aboard the USS Diamond Head from 1944 to 1945. On Oct. 19, 1948, Gilles married Hortense Ruth Boudreau, who pre-deceased him on Aug. 26, 2005.

Gilles was a life long member of St. Louis Parish in Highgate Center. He was employed at Boise Cascade in Sheldon for 29 years, retiring in 1986. He worked for many years after retirement as a Lister for the Town of Highgate. He loved gardening, the outdoors, good jokes, and his grandchildren.

Gilles is survived by his daughter-in-law, Rachel Boudreau; daughter, Maria Burdick and partner, Philip Dutil; son, Joseph and wife, Linda; son, David and wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Sheila Lamoy and husband, John; daughter, Jean Simard and husband, Gregory; and his grandchildren: Emily Avery, her husband Darren, and their daughter Addison, Christopher Burdick and his wife, Jennifer, Ryan Burdick and his wife, Christine, Chad and Renee Boudreau, Matthew, Patrick, and Catherine Boudreau, Jon Patrick and Robert Lamoy, Meredith and Lee Simard, and Ross Orr.

In addition, he is survived by brothers: Rosaire Boudreau and his wife, Jacqueline, Claude Boudreau; his sisters: Sr. Jeanne Mance Boudreau and Sr. Francoise Boudreau; sisters-in law: Madeleine, Elaine, and Juliette Boudreau and Denise St. John; brothers-in-law: Maurice Rainville, Claude Desorcie, Clarence Desorcie and wife, Beverly, and Gerard Desorcie and his partner, Lucille Waine.

In addition to his wife Hortense, Gilles was pre-deceased by his sons: John and Michael; his grandson Brian; his parents Eugene and Maria Fournier Boudreau; his siblings: Bernard, Gaetan, Anatole, Fernande, Lucille, Gilberte, Yvette, Gerard, Jacquelin, and Albert; his sisters-in-law: Cecile Boudreau, Anna Boudreau, and Teresa Desorcie; and brothers-in-law: Cody St. John and Rodolphe Messier.

The Boudreau family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Special Care Unit at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare, Frank Landry, M.D., and Rosemary Dale, M.D. for the tender loving care they provided Gilles.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Lamkin Street, Highgate Center on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. Father John J. Meagher, SSE will be the celebrant and homilist. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. There will be no public visiting hours. The family requests that friends and family join them following the burial at a reception at the St. Louis Parish Hall in Highgate Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton 05488.

JAMES M. WESTCOM, JR.
BAKERSFIELD - James M. Westcom Jr., age 75, passed away Monday morning, April 24, 2006, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born in Belvidere on Sept. 1, 1930, the son of the late James M. Westcom Sr. and Lillian (Shepard) Westcom.

Jim was a resident of Bakersfield most of his life and growing up attended the Bakersfield North School. He was employed as a truck driver for E.S. Read in East Fairfield, Swanton Packing Co. and finally at McDermott’s Trucking in Enosburg Falls, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge 63 in Enosburg Falls, Missisquoi Valley Sportsman Club and played in the American Legion Post 42 Cribbage League. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards and cribbage, coaching minor and little league baseball when his kids were growing up and more recently spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Sayers) Westcom of Bakersfield, they were married Sept. 7, 1957; his children and their families: Kelton Westcom, his wife Sherry, their children, James L. & Danielle of Bakersfield, Stanley Westcom, his wife Wendy, their children, Lucas, Cameron & Devon of Swanton, David Westcom, his wife Katherine, their children, Kayla, Alayna & Jaren of Bakersfield, Brian Westcom of Bakersfield, Larry Westcom, his wife Brenda, their children, Dillan, Zachery, Sawyer & Brooke, Joanne Doane, her husband Neil, their children, Aaron, Adam, Anna & Aidan of Bakersfield, and Jeffrey Westcom, his wife Karen, their children, Johnathon, Rebecca & Cassondra of Enosburg; two brothers: Harold Westcom and his wife, Lynda of East Fairfield, and William Westcom of Hyde Park; his brothers-in-law: Clarence Young and his companion, Marlene Williams of Bakersfield, Clarence Willis and his wife, Anna of Waterloo, Que., John Willis of Sutton, Que., and Stanley Willis and his wife, Carmen of Montreal, Que.; his sisters-in-law: Ruth Westcom of Rutland and Dorothy Reid of Abercorn, Que.; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Kelton Westcom; and four sisters: Edna Westcom, Gladys Young, Maysil Longe and Arbutus Patterson.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, April 28, 2006, at 2 at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 until the hour of the funeral.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 7 to 9 at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.

DELMAR H. FLANDERS
EAST FAIRFIELD - Delmar H. Flanders, age 85, passed away Tuesday morning, April 25, 2006, at the Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans.

He was born Feb. 14, 1921, in Bakersfield, the son of the late Howard and Zula (Wright) Flanders.

He attended schools in East Fairfield and on Nov. 25, 1943, married Rita (Gendron) Flanders. Delmar held various jobs from farming, driving truck to Boston for E.S. Read, laborer for St. J & LC Railroad, and the State of Vermont Highway Department. He also worked part-time for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the East Fairfield Volunteer Fire Dept. and served on the Pastoral Board, which helped build St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in East Fairfield. In his spare time he did mechanic work on vehicles for his family and neighbors. He also was an avid trapper and card player.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Flanders of East Fairfield; his children: Linda Hall & Lisa Rotman of South Burlington, and Raymond & Donna Flanders of Bakersfield; his grandchildren: Mindy & Gilbert Gagner of Highgate Springs, Daryl Hall, his children Britney, Taylor & Seth and their mother, Theresa, all of Highgate Springs, Daren & Lisa Hall of Swanton, Jessica Flanders of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Jamie Flanders and her fiancé, Mark Stenta Jr. of Bakersfield; a brother and his wife, William & Joyce Flanders of Hyde Park; a sister and her husband, Helen & William Murphy of Hyde Park; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his step father, Orsen Fletcher; and his sisters, Laura Flanders and Freda Jacobs.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 29, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in East Fairfield with Rev. Pierre Lavallee celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery in Bakersfield.

Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

MADELYN CAHILL KEENAN
ST. ALBANS - A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated for Mrs. Madelyn Cahill Keenan on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Father Leonidas Laroche was the celebrant. Assisting and proclaiming the Holy Gospel was Deacon Jack Rixon. Altar servers were Robert LeClair and John Manahan. Claire Hungerford was the organist and soloist.

The pall was placed on Madelyn’s casket by her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Mark Linsenmeir, granddaughters, Kate O’Neill and Maura O’Neill. The Crucifix was placed on the pall by granddaughter Kathy Camisa. The Holy Scripture Lessons were proclaimed by granddaughters, Madelyn Linsenmeir and Cristin Camisa. The Mass Offertory Gifts were processed by granddaughters, Meg Jarvis, Carolyn Evarts and Olivia Venturo. Deacon Rixon was the homilist and granddaughter Anne Venturo shared fond memories and gave a loving tribute to Mrs. Keenan.

Attending and forming an honorary tribute was members of the Autonoe Club. Also present were a large contingency from the Vermont House of Representatives and Vermont Senate. Other delegations represented the Northwestern Medical Center, St. Albans City, Town, Georgia and Swanton public offices, U.S. Marshall office, Franklin County Superior Court, County Court and Family Court, Central Vermont Veterans Association, Bellows Free Academy, St. Albans Library, Business and Professional Women’s Club, Former Gene French Agency, Peoples Trust Bank, Cioffi Real Estate, Handy’s Auto Dealerships, Dexter Products and longtime Lincoln Avenue neighbors and former neighbors.

Bearers were her grandsons: Kevin Camisa, Colin Camisa, Timothy Camisa, Mark Evarts, Michael Venturo and Todd Jarvis.

Following Prayers of Committal by Father Laroche, Madelyn’s family sang “Oh Danny Boy” and each member placed a red rose on her casket. Interment was in the Keenan family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family returned to St. Mary’s Parish Center where the Bereavement Committee of St. Mary’s Church held a luncheon for all present.

Friday afternoon Father Laroche held a Christian Wake Service for Madelyn’s family and friends, in the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

HANK M. LAUZON
SWANTON - The Liturgy of Christian Burial was concelebrated Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Father Maurice U. Boucher, SSE pastor of St. Amadeus Roman Catholic Church Alburgh and St. Joseph’s Mission Isle La Motte was the principle celebrant and homilist. Concelebrating was Father John J. Meagher, SSE pastor of Nativity Parish Swanton and St. Louis Parish Highgate Center. Edward Daniel and John Tougas served as Ministers of the Altar.

Music was provided by Hank’s brother-in-law, Maurice Gauthier accompanied by organist Carol Pellerin. Hank was carried before the Altar by his nephew Craig Barratt. Roses were placed around the urn by his wife Georgette and granddaughter Jacqueline Braida. Readings from both The Old and New Testament were proclaimed by family friend Charlene Bourdeau. The Offertory gifts were presented by Goddaughter Leslie Cheney. Special Words of Remembrance were shared by niece Terri Reynolds and longtime family friend Bud Greeno.

Among the large delegations in attendance were representatives from Swanton Village and Town Offices, St. Albans City and Town Offices, IBM, Tuttle’s Trucking, Porter’s Bike Shop, Swanton Public Library, Peter Paquette Real Estate, My-T-Fine II Restaurant, Merchants Bank, Office of Attorney George Spear, Nana’s Restaurant Northwestern Medical Center, and the Parish Communities of Nativity, St. Louis, St. Amadeus and St. Joseph’s Mission.

Following the liturgy a Bereavement Luncheon for family and friends was served in the Nativity Parish Center hosted by the Tuttle and Gauthier families.
