Marguerite Lampron

BENNINGTON — Marguerite Lampron, 70, a longtime resident of Sudbury and most recently of Rutland, died June 14, 2001, at Rutland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born July 25, 1930, in Bennington, daughter of Alfred Eugene and Marie Louise (Branchaud) Lampron.

She received her education at Sacred Heart School in Bennington.

Miss Lampron had served as a companion for the elderly in Rutland County.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to music and watching ice skating.

Survivors include two sisters, Leona LeBlanc of Sudbury and Louise Dumas of Shrewsbury; a brother, Roger Lampron of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a sister, Jeannette; and four brothers, Paul, Ernest, Armand and Raymond Lampron.

The graveside committal services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Heart Association through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, 05201.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Rachel G. Fitts

WINDSOR — Rachel G. Fitts, 79, died June 12, 2001, at Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor.

She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Lowell, Mass., daughter of Elias and Blanche (Bedard) Germain.

She married Erwin A. Fitts on April 17, 1945. He died in 1974.

Mrs. Fitts was an avid reader.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah L. Jarvis and Mary E. Fitts; three grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Roger Germain; and a sister, Yolande Bullock.

The funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Church in Windsor. A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Francis Church, Windsor, or the National Diabetes Association.

Valeria A. Novak

SPRINGFIELD — Valeria A. Novak, 80, formerly of Springfield, died June 15, 2001, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington after a brief illness.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Davis Memorial Chapel.

Col. Joseph M. Madden rites

ARLINGTON — The funeral Mass for Col. Joseph M. Madden, U.S. Air Force retired, who died April 29, 2001, was held Wednesday, May 2, at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington with the Rev Robert Baffa, pastor, and the Rev. Michael A. Demasi officiating.

Burial was held in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., on Wednesday, June 6, where memorial services were offered at Fort Myer Post Chapel by Col. Martin McGuill, U.S. Air Force retired. The flag was presented to Mrs. Madden.

Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Monica Murray. Words of remembrance were offered by Barbara Finlayson, a family friend.

Bearers were Jonathan Mandas, a grandson, Henry Schurink, David Vanderwerken and Joseph Cymerman.

A prayer service at Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass.

The vigil service was offered at the funeral home during visiting hours by Sister Grace Klenchik.

Arrangements were under the direction of Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Kathleen Lauzon rites

NORTH BENNINGTON — The funeral service for Kathleen Lauzon, who died June 6, 2001, was held Monday at Mahar & Son Funeral Home with the Rev. David Jimo, pastor of North Bennington Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed in Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington.

Bearers were Edward “Sonny” Cross, Lyle Livingston, John P. Cross, Gerald Elwell, Edward B. Cross and Timmy Harrington.

Arrangements were under the direction of Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

Sidney J. Pierce

NORTH FERRISBURGH — Sidney James Pierce, 65, died June 14, 2001.

He was born Sept. 8, 1935, in Burlington, son of William Harrison and Sybil (Green) Pierce.

Mr. Pierce was a dairy farmer.

He enjoyed cards, bowling, horseshoes and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Lena; two daughters, Paula Villemaire of Huntington and Diane Cheney of Essex Junction; three sons, Bruce of Starksboro, Timothy of Hinesburg and Michael of North Ferrisburgh; two brothers, William Pierce of Nevada and John Pierce of North Ferrisburgh; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in North Ferrisburgh Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes.

Contributions may be made to the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, Vergennes, 05491.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown-McClay Funeral Home.

Charles Blodgett

SOUTH RYEGATE - Charles J. Blodgett, of South Ryegate, died June 8, 2001, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Memorial services will be held 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Spirit of Health in Royalton, where he was a chiropractor. There are no calling hours. The Hale Funeral Home of Bradford is in charge of arrangements.

Roy Carpenter

RUTLAND - Graveside services for Roy E. Carpenter, who died April 3, 2001, were held Saturday at the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield. The Rev. Bruce A. Bishop, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated.

Thomas Johnston, of the Rutland Lodge #79 F&AM, and Joe Hinckley and Alex Bennett of the Springfield Lodge #41 F&AM. Chester American Legion Post #67 Commander Thomas Merritt and Chester Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #771 member Richard Pratt were flag folders.

John Gardener

WEST TOPSHAM - Graveside committal services for John S. Gardener, who died Feb. 28, 2001, will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the East Corinth N ew Cemetery. The Hale Funeral Home of Bradford is in charge of arrangements.

Ansel Kingsbury

LUDLOW - Ansel Homer Kingsbury, 78, died June 15, 2001, at the Gill Odd Fellows Home in Ludlow after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Cavendish, the son of Alfred W. and Ellen (Sawyer) Kingsbury. He graduated from Chester High School, and spent his life in Cavendish.

He worked with his father on Chub Hill Farm, raising Guernsey cattle. He sold his livestock and retired in 1986.

Mr. Kingsbury was a long-time member of the Ludlow Baptist Church and held various offices there. He enjoyed farming, livestock, mechanical work and making toys. He was well-known for his mechanical ability with tractors, trucks and farm equipment.

Survivors include two sisters, Miriam and Olive Kingsbury; a brother, Paul; all of Cavendish; four nieces and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Ludlow Baptist Church.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Adams and Kenney Funeral Home, 12 Meadow St. in Ludlow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ludlow Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3, Ludlow, VT 05149, or to the Gill Odd Fellows Home, 8 Gill Terrace, Ludlow, VT 05149.

Alexander Magocsi Jr.

BRANADON - Funeral services for Alexander Magosci Jr., who died Oct. 21, 2000, at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, were held Saturday at the Miller and Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. Following private burial in Sudbury, the family received friends at The Lilac Inn in Brandon for a time of fellowship and reflection.

Rachel Mills

FLORENCE - Rachel K. Mills, 81, died June 15, 2001, at the Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury.

She was born Dec. 29, 1919, the daughter of James and Rhoda Kingsley.

She married Harold Mills. They owned and operated the Otter Meadow Guernsey Farm in Florence for many years, until retirement, due to ill health. Mr. Mills died Jan. 19, 2001.

Mrs. Mills was a member of the Pittsford Congregational Church for many years, the Pittsford Historical Society and a former member of the Pittsford Housekeeper’s Club.

Survivors include her son, James Mills; four granddaughters; a great-grandson and two nephews.

Memorial services are pending for Tuesday at the Pittsford Congregational Church. Committal services will be at the convenience of the family at the Evergreen Cemetery.

Willard Norman

WOODSTOCK - Willard C. Norman, 90, died June 16, 2001, at his Hartland Hill home. Arrangements are pending at the Cabot Funeral Home in Woodstock.

James Simon

TINMOUTH - James G. Simon, 57, of Tinmouth, died June 15, 2001, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 11, 1943, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Gustave and Anna (Deak) Simon.

He married Susan Janky on Jan. 27, 1968.

Mr. Simon moved from Michigan to Vermont in 1982. He worked as an art teacher at West Rutland High School until his retirement in 1996.

He was an avid sailor and enjoyed skiing and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of Tinmouth; a daughter, Julie Simon of Seattle, Wash.; a son, Scott Simon of Sudbury, Mass.; and a sister, Bobbi Loerlein of Travers City, Mich.

His parents are deceased.

There are no calling hours or funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wallingford Rescue, P.O. Box 246, Wallingford, VT 05773, or to the Rutland County Humane Society, P.O. Box 558, Pittsford, VT 05763.

The Wallingford-Aldous Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Bahan

EAST POULTNEY - Ethel T. Bahan, 89, a resident of Poultney since 1934, died June 29, 2001, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 17, 1911, the daughter of George and Addie (Moffit) Thomas.

Funeral services are pending for Tuesday.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Roberts-Aubin Funeral Home, 266 Allen Ave. in Poultney.
