Julia E. Kalpin

PLYMOUTH — Julia E. Kalpin, 69, of Plymouth and Palm City, Fla., died May 10, 2003, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Queens, N.Y., Oct. 9, 1933, the daughter of Arthur and Julie (Bangel) Siefert.

She was a graduate of John Adams High School in New York and a graduate of Berklee College.

Mrs. Kalpin worked from 1964 to 1994 as vice president of administration of Harry A. Sturch & Associates in Princeton, N.J.

She enjoyed skiing in Vermont.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond D. Kalpin of Plymouth and Palm City, Fla.; three sons, Raymond D. Kalpin Jr. and Arthur J. Kalpin, both of New Jersey, and Stephen Kalpin of Connecticut; and four grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held in Palm City, Fla. Entombment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Palm City.

The Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland is in charge of local arrangements.

Kay L. Wright

EAST ARLINGTON — Kay L. Wright, 55, a resident of East Arlington, died May 9, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born Feb. 16, 1948, in Watertown, N.Y., the daughter of Albert B. and Doris (Snyder) Wright. She graduated from Indian River Central School in Philadelphia, N.Y., in 1965 and attended Kansas State University.

In her early years, Miss Wright worked at Waring Blender Co. in Connecticut. She later worked for 12 years as the general manager of the Wawa grocery store in New Haven, Conn. After moving to East Arlington, she worked for the Orvis Co. and, for a short time, edited textbooks.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and donated her handmade baby items to the local hospital. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her computer.

Survivors include her mother; a sister, Donna Pillsbury, both of Calcium, N.Y.; a brother, Robert Wright of Sherburne, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

There will be no funeral service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the AIDA Project of New Haven; to Jefferson County (N.Y.) JRC or to the Arlington Rescue Squad, in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Arlington Chapel, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, 05250.

Clara E. Cherbonneau

BENNINGTON — Clara E. Cherbonneau, 96, a longtime resident of Bennington, died May 11, 2003, at the Manes House on Union Street.

Arrangements are pending at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Brian T. Tkaczyk

DUMMERSTON — Brian Theodor Tkaczyk, 44, died May 11, 2003, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born in Brattleboro July 13, 1958, the son of Theodor and Elaine (Ryan) Tkaczyk. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended St. Michael’s School and graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1976.

He attended Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, Mass., where he earned an associate’s degree in 1978.

He married Lori A. Brookes on June 7, 1980, in Brattleboro.

He owned and operated First Choice Communications Service Inc., which he established in 1992. Previously he worked for 10 years for the Holstein Association and had worked at Vanguard Telephone Systems in Brattleboro.

Well known for his expertise in sound systems, he volunteered for many years for the Brattleboro Winter Carnival. He also arranged the sound system for the annual town meeting in Brattleboro.

He was a member of the Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary Club, was active for many years with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a board member for Brattleboro Troop 405. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

He enjoyed lighting, sound design and boating.

He is survived by his wife; his parents of Hinsdale, N.H.; a son, Ian Tkaczyk, and a daughter, Leslie Tkaczyk, both of Dummerston; two sisters, Karen Zelenakas of Brattleboro and Theresa Nelson of Indianapolis, Ind.; a brother, David Tkaczyk of Groveland, Mass., and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dummerston Center cemetery.

Friends may call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home in Brattleboro on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to a scholarship trust for his children, in care of Deanna Wilson, Chittenden Bank, 100 Main St., Brattleboro, 05301.

Velma E. Giddings

SPRINGFIELD — A graveside committal service for Velma E. Giddings, 83, who died Feb. 15, 2003, at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center in Windsor, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Oakland cemetery. The Rev. Thomas Hiltsley, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate.

Davis Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Vera G. Murray Rites

PERKINSVILLE — A graveside service for Vera G. Murray, 105, who died Jan. 19, 2003, was held Saturday at the Plain cemetery in Perkinsville. The Rev. Harry Peatt of Perkinsville officiated.

Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.

Alden Currier

Alden Currier, 82, of Rutland Town died May 13, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Tossing Funeral Home.

Alice E. Traynor

The graveside service for Alice E. Traynor, 72, of Rutland, who died Feb. 8, 2003, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Calvary cemetery in Rutland.

The Rev. Reid Mayo, pastor of Christ the King Church in Rutland, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Simon A. Holmberg

The graveside service for Simon A. Holmberg, 54, of Rutland, who died Feb. 16, 2003, will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Evergreen cemetery in Rutland.

The Rev. Thomas Mattison, associate pastor of Christ the King Church in Rutland, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Bianca M. Manfredi

The graveside service for Bianca M. Manfredi, 94, of Rutland, who died March 31, 2003, will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in South Street cemetery in Proctor.

The Rev. Reid Mayo, pastor of Christ the King Church in Rutland, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

Jennie A. Mills

CASTLETON — The graveside service for Jennie A. Mills, 81, who died March 24, 2003, will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Bridget’s cemetery in West Rutland.

The Rev. Robert Whalen, pastor of St. Bridget’s Church in West Rutland, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mullin-Clifford Funeral Home in West Rutland.

Margaret D. Blakslee

FAIR HAVEN — The graveside service for Margaret “Dodie” Beebe Blakslee, 79, who died Dec. 19, 2002, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cedar Grove cemetery in Fair Haven.

The Rev. Marsh Hudson-Knapp will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Sayles Funeral Home in St. Johnsbury.

Emory J. Swinyer

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The memorial service for Dr. Emory James Swinyer, 93, who died April 8, 2003, will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at East Poultney United Baptist Church.

Ann M. Wilbur

TINMOUTH — The graveside service with military honors for Ann M. Wilbur will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Tinmouth cemetery with the Rev. Robert McKnight officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ready Funeral Home in Burlington.

Eleanor Ellis

WEATHERSFIELD — Eleanor Ellis, 74, died May 10, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

She was born April 24, 1929, in Waterbury, Conn., the daughter of Anna (Buckingham) and Wilbert Pronovost.

She moved to Vermont in 1957, and she and her husband purchased the Ludlow Theatre and later opened the Ellis Theatre in Springfield.

Mrs. Ellis was active in the Ascutney Mountain Audubon Society for many years. She was a research associate and waterfowl consultant with Vermont Institute of Natural Science, and past member of its board of directors.

She was also instrumental in the development and maintenance of Springweather Nature Area, which was officially named The Eleanor Ellis/Springweather Area in 1998.

Survivors include her husband, Ray of Weathersfield; a son, Walter of Weathersfield; three grandsons, a great-grandson and two great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Springfield. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ascutney Mountain Audubon Society, Springfield, 05156 or the Raptor Center of VINS, Woodstock, 05091.

Leah G. Jacobs

CHESTER — The graveside service for Leah G. Jacobs, 87, who died March 1, 2003, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Cutler cemetery in East Montpelier.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Adams & Kenney Funeral Homes in Chester.

Louis W. Moreland

MANCHESTER — The graveside service with military honors for Louis W. Moreland, 85, who died Dec. 10, 2002, will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Pleasant View cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.

Eleanor C. Krauss

BENNINGTON — The memorial service for Eleanor Caroline Krauss, 88, who died March 23, 2003, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.

The Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of the North Bennington Congregational Church, will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
