Peter Liberty
8/30/1945 - 11/7/2010

Peter T. Liberty, 65, of Lyndon Center, passed away Sunday November 7, 2010 at Northeastern VT Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury.

He was born August 30, 1945 in St. Johnsbury, the son of Cedric and Beatrice (Williams) Liberty Sr.

Peter graduated from the St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1963. In 1966 he entered the US Air Force where he served his country until 1972.

He worked as a machinist for VT Tap & Die Co. in Lyndonville for nearly forty years retiring in 2007. He was a member of the Tom Breslin Center of Lyndonville, and the American Legion Post 7 of Hardwick. Hunting, playing cribbage, photography, spending time with his family at his camp in Wheelock, and traveling the back roads of the Northeast Kingdom brought him much pleasure.

Survivors include his son, Jeffrey Liberty of Wheelock (P.O. Box 76, Lyndon, VT 05849); two brothers, C. James Liberty Jr. and his wife Shirley of Lyndonville, and John Liberty of South Wheelock; a brother in-law, Robert Kidnocker of Chillicothe, OH; the mother of his son, Karleen Kelly of St. Johnsbury; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Nancy Kidnocker.

Funeral services will be held at the Guibord Funeral Home Thursday November 11, at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Fr. Dwight Baker officiating. Burial will follow in St. Elizabeth cemetery in Lyndonville.

Friends may meet with the family Wednesday evening from 6-8 at the funeral home.

Due to the fine care his mother received prior to her death in 2004, donations may be directed to, Caledonia Home Health Inc., (for Hospice) 161 Sherman Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.

Guibord Funeral Home is located on the corner of Main and Center Streets, Lyndonville.

Richard H. Morehouse, Sr.
5/19/1915 - 11/11/2010

Richard Morehouse, Sr., 95, of Concord passed away Thursday, Nov 11, 2010 surrounded by his family at his home.

He was born in Hardwick on May 19, 1915, the son of George and Annie Emma (Hale) Morehouse.

Richard served in the Army during WWII and was a life member of VFW Post #793. He worked 23 years with Ralston Purina in St. Johnsbury until the plant’s closing Oct. 1, 1974. Previous to his work at Ralston Purina, he delivered grain and food to area families for Blue Seal Feeds and plowed roads for the State of Vermont. All the while he worked his first job, he and Lucille and the boys operated the family farm and produced milk for Cabot Creamery.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lucille (Robillard) Morehouse whom he married May 19, 1939; three sons: Richard Morehouse Jr., John Morehouse, and Harry Morehouse all of Concord, eight grandchildren: Richard’s surviving child Ceylon, John’s children Brett, Becky, Brooke, and Ben; Harry’s children Mary, Robbie, and Sarah; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters: Phyllis Wood and Dottie Morton both of Concord, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by Richard’s daughter Wanda Cota; two sisters: Lucile Richardson and Gloria Morehouse, and a brother Delbert Morehouse.

The Morehouse family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from 2-4PM.

Graveside services will be held at the Concord cemetery Monday, Nov. 15 at 1PM. Mr. John Sleeper will officiate. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.

Beverly Goodenough

Beverly Bean Goodenough

Beverly Goodenough of St. Johnsbury passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 at the age of 91.

She was born in St. Johnsbury on June 21, 1919, the youngest of six children born to Ashley and Jennie Bean. She was predeceased by her four brothers Maitland, Howard, Russell and Leo Bean, and by a sister Madeline Russo. Her husband Malcolm died Dec. 10, 1964.

Beverly graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1937. She looked forward to the class luncheons that her classmate Alice Blair scheduled throughout the year.

She was highly regarded for her bookkeeping skills and sought after for employment. She began her career at Fairbanks Morse, where she met her husband, Malcolm Goodenough. They were married on September 25, 1948. Her favorite job was at The Corner Garage; she retired in 1986 from Gracie Roofing.

Beverly valued most in life the time spent with family and friends- particularly her great-grandchildren in her later years. She loved her camp on Martin’s Pond in Peacham. She greatly enjoyed reading her mother’s poetry and reciting poems about Vermont.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, and the St. Johnsbury Country Club.

She is survived by two daughters: Sharon Bernard and husband James of Montpelier and Pamela Goodenough of St. Johnsbury; six grandchildren: Sharon’s three children Jessica Bernard of Montpelier, Angela Mongeon of Montpelier, and Ryan Bernard of Warwick RI; Pamela’s three children Jennifer Slen of Stowe, Shaun Gracie of Oschatz, Germany, and Shannon Karpinski of Colchester; and 10 great-grandchildren - Sophia, Noah, Olivia, Leoni, Taylor, Dakota, Kale, Ezra, Emily, and Owen. She is also survived by Malcolm’s sister Marlene Carr of California.

Memorial services will be held in St. Johnsbury this Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 2PM at the Grace United Methodist Church. The pastor, the Rev. John Marshall, will officiate. The family will observe her burial privately at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

Diane P. LaFleur
10/11/1959 - 11/16/2010

After a long year of battling with cancer, we will lay to rest our beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, ‘Nini’, and friend.

Diane was well known to be always working; she would keep herself busy; she never stayed still for a moment, always on the go. If she wasn’t working, she was either making crafts, in the garden, or camping with her family.

She was one to be known to give a helping hand no matter what one would need. She thought of everyone else before herself, and did not like having attention brought on to her.

Diane lived in St. Johnsbury most her life and made her home with her family on the Severance Hill Rd. She worked for many years with close friends John Aja and Dawna Clifford at AJA Pizzeria. She was working at Maple Grove Farms before she became ill with cancer.

She was predeceased by her mother Alma Switser; father Dean Switser, along with her grandmother Matilda Feller.

Diane has left behind her husband Kenneth LaFleur; her two daughters: Monica Stowell and her husband Scott of Lyndonville, Amanda Allen and her boyfriend Justin Phelps of Danville; Ken’s two sons: Josh LaFleur and wife Kelly of Sheffield, Jamie LaFleur and wife Aleena of Bridport; Nini’s tribe of grandchildren: Dezera LaFleur, Wyette LaFleur, McKayla Stowell, Cameron Stowell, Domanic LaFleur, Destany LaFleur, and a new grand baby on the way.

She also leaves her two brothers: Dean Switser Sr. and wife Lucille of Concord, Reginald Switser and wife Barbara of Bakersfield; her step-mother Patricia Switser of Lyndonville; her step-sister Marsha Burrington and husband Michael of Sheffield; Ken’s mother: Della LaFleur of Burke; Ken’s two brothers: George Harris Jr. and wife Karen of White River Jct., David LaFleur (’one eye’!) of Lyndonville. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and lots of friends.

A celebration of her life will be held in Lyndonville Friday at 3:30PM at the Tom Breslin Community Center located on Main St. Preceding that celebration of her life, a public graveside service will be held at 2:00PM at the Lyndon Center cemetery where she will be buried with her mother.

Bernard J. Lynaugh

Bernard ‘B.J.’ Lynaugh

Bernard J. Lynaugh, a resident of Higgins Hill Rd. in St. Johnsbury for the past 41 years, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 17, 2010 at his home, as was his wish.

He was born in Concord, Vermont March 11, 1941, one of eight children born to Howard and Nora (Stuart) Lynaugh.

Bernard served in the Army for three years: March 20, 1961 through March 20, 1964, and was in Germany during the Berlin Wall crisis.

His family reflects that B.J. was a hard working, very honest and generous man. He loved going to yard sales with Becky, going fishing with Nick, and sightseeing over the back roads with Scott.

Over the years B.J. worked at Fairbanks, Caledonia Sand and Gravel, St. Johnsbury Trucking Co., and for the town of St. Johnsbury. After he retired, he continued to drive dump truck for different area construction companies. He was a life member of VFW Post #793.

He is survived by his wife Sandy (Lowell) Lynaugh who he married Sept. 2, 1967. They have three children: Brian W. Lynaugh of Walden, Debra L. Ramirez of Littleton NH, Scott A. Lynaugh of Concord; his two grandchildren who called him ‘Papa’, Becky and Nick Ramirez; 3 brothers: Howard ‘Oscar’ Lynaugh of Victory, Larry Lynaugh living in Maryland, Johnny Lynaugh living in North Carolina; 2 sisters: Betty Stowell of Lyndonville, and Marion Spring living in Florida; cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an older sister, Connie Williams, in March of this year, and by an infant brother Edward.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Sunday from 2-4PM.

Funeral services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Monday, Nov. 22 at 11AM. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Anne Hockridge with burial following at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.

Thomas James Michael Shea
06/27/1947 - 2/24/2009

Thomas James Michael Shea, 61, of Lyndon and formerly of East Corinth, died suddenly early Tuesday morning February 24, 2009 at his home. He was born June 27, 1947 in Worcester, MA, the son of Thomas J. and Florence C. (Leduc) Shea. He was a graduate of Carson High School in Carson, CA. Following his schooling he entered the US Army where he served in Vietnam. He was honored with many medals for his distinguished service above and beyond the call of duty, including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Vietnamese Medal of Honor, and the Purple Heart. When he returned to the States he became a Drill Sergeant. Later Tom was a strong advocate for his fellow veterans. He was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Legion of Valor U.S.A., VFW in Derby, the American Legion, and was a friend of Bill W. Tom moved to Lyndon in 2003 and did part time painting. He enjoyed talking with and helping people. He loved life, people, motorcycling, fishing, camping at Center Pond in Newark and Ricker Pond in Groton with his family and friends, and was considered a movie buff. He was a great father to his two daughters, an awesome grandfather, and uncle T. Survivors include his companion, Deborah Reynolds of Lyndon; two daughters, Shannon “Dewey” Shea of East Corinth, and Cassie “Chub” Shea of Sutton; three grandchildren, Thomas James, Paul Henry, and Anika Marie; four brothers, Daniel, Michael, Frank and Joseph Shea all of California; three sisters, also of California, Cathy West, Mary Haub, and Patty Gibbons; the mother of his children, Paula Shea of East Corinth; Deborah’s daughter, Jessica Jackson of New Jersey, her parents, Howard and Becky Reynolds of Lyndon, her brother, Stephen Reynolds and wife Susan of New Hampshire, and her sister, Patricia Ste. Marie and husband Barry of Lyndon; many nieces and nephews; Tom’s canine companions, Fergunson and Riley; as well as his fellow veterans. He was predeceased by his parents, and his father in-law who was like a father to him, Paul Lavallee. Friends may call on the family this Saturday from 2-4 at the Guibord Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday March 01, at 2:00 PM at the Lyndonville First Congregational Church with the Rev. Judi Horgan officiating. Spring burial with military honors will be in the Vermont State Veteran’s cemetery in Randolph Center. Because of Tom’s love for Eagles, donations may be directed to the Vermont Institute of Natural Science, P. O. Box 1281, Quechee, VT 05059. Guibord Funeral Home is located on the corner of Main and Center Streets, Lyndonville, VT.

Jeanne Renaud
02/16/1925 - 2/26/2009

Jeanne D’Arc Renaud passed away at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH on Thursday, February 26, 2009, at the age of 84.

She was born February 16, 1925, in St. Anges DeBeauce, the daughter of Darie and Armoza (Dutil) Drouin.

She is survived by her husband: Raymond Renaud of St. Johnsbury: her two sons; Robert Renaud and wife Beverly of St. Johnsbury, Jacques Renaud and his companion Martha Gooden of Dalton, NH, 3 grandchildren: Cody, Candance and Brooke, her four nephews that were like her own: Robert, Raymond, Jacque and Mark Goudreau, her sister: Agathe Nottet of Montreal and her brother: Gerald Drouin and wife Pierette of Mascouche, Quebec.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John Evangelist Church on Monday, March 2 at 11:00 AM. There will be no visiting hours at the request of the family.

Barbara J. Powers
02/28/1926 - 3/12/2009

Mrs. Barbara Powers, 83, of St. Johnsbury passed away peacefully at NVRH Thursday morning, Mar. 12, 2009 after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 28, 1926 in Barton, one of eight children born to Merton and Myrtle Ash. She married Reginald Powers Nov. 16, 1944. Their firstborn child Almeda died at birth. The Powers had resided in the Fairbanks village section of St Johnsbury since 1955

Barbara was a daycare provider for over 50 years. Less than two weeks ago, on her 83rd birthday, she received over 300 cards, many of them from her previous daycare children.

For nearly fifty years, Barbara was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She also looked forward to the monthly meetings with the TLC club.

She is survived by five children: Donna and Franklin Hovey of Danville, Terry and Ann Powers of Wynnewood, PA and Joes Pond, Sandra and Mark Grenier of St. Johnsbury, Susan and Michael Bedard of Lebanon PA, Judy and David Lavely of Danville; 13 grandchildren: Jennifer, Christopher, Franklin, Matthew; Clayton, Asheley: Allison, Jayme; Caryn, Rebecca, Amanda; Jacob and Justin; 11 great-grandchildren, soon to be 12!; also Connie Lumbra whom she considered like a daughter.

She is survived by 3 sisters: Althea Gillis of Colchester, Beverly Chaffee of Montpelier, Norma Major and husband Paul of Newport; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Helen Farrow, and by 3 brothers: Merton ‘Butch’, Earl ‘Buster’, and Harold.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 15 at 2PM at the Grace United Methodist Church. The pastor, the Rev. John Marshall, will officiate. Committal services will be held in May at the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 2-5PM.

Donald O. Willson

Donald Oscar Willson

Donald O. Willson of North Concord passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the age of 77.

Born in St. Johnsbury on June 1, 1931, his parents were the late Bernard and Doris (Story) Willson. Just this past Valentines Day, he and Sandra Lillicrap were married after being together for the last 28 years.

Donald was a longtime millwright at Fairbanks Scales. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a life member of VFW Post #793 and a member of American Legion Post #58. He was an avid hunter and in his later years enjoyed capturing game with his camera.

He is survived by his wife Sandy (PO Box 669, North Concord 05858) and her extended family; 3 sisters: Mable Noble, Marilyn Kragh, and Lois Cole; 3 children: Diane Perkins (PO Box 305, Concord, VT 05824), David Willson (PO Box 217, Concord VT 05824), and Douglas Willson (426 Cross Rd., Waterford VT 05819); 5 grandchildren: Amy Perkins, Eric Perkins and wife Jennifer, Jennifer Willson-Clark, Taylor and Derek Willson; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers: William and Raymond Willson, and one sister Eleanor Jordan.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home this Tuesday from 4-7PM and will conclude with a prayer service led by the Rev. Robert H. Sargent, chaplain of the VFW Post #793. Burial will be at the North Concord cemetery in May.

Mabel A. Houghton
02/29/1916 - 3/15/2009

Mrs. Mabel Houghton of Passumpsic passed away at home Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the age of 93.

She was born in Richford, Vermont on Feb. 29, 1916, one of nine children raised by Charles and Minnie (Laflamme) Westover. After being married to William Santaw, she married Ralph Houghton in 1960; he predeceased her in 1982.

Mabel was very comfortable in her little home on Grange Hall Lane in Passumpsic where she lived for the past 40 years. She had worked at St. Johnsbury Glovers for over 35 years.

She is survived by three daughters: Eleanor Lund and husband Milton of Waterford, Agnes Anderson and husband Bacil of Enosburg Falls, Lorraine Racine of Waterford; eight of her grandchildren: Donna Lund, Norma Racine, Nancy Newton, Susan Tanner, Monica Burnor, Jayne Belanger, Jeffrey Racine, and Laurie Johnson; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by 2 sisters: Doris Bowen of Rochester VT, Theresa Bruce of Lebanon NH; one brother Harland Westover of Waterbury Center; nieces, nephews and their families.

Besides her husband Ralph, she was predeceased by a son-in-law Ernie Racine; a granddaughter Sandra Carpenter; three sisters: Genevieve Deyette, Hazel Collins, and Alice Westover; a brother Edmond Westover; and a brother Larry Westover.

The family acknowledges and appreciates all the care given by her live-in caregiver, Erlene Loura, as well as by Jeff and Holly, and Norma’s constant thoughtfulness and concern.

Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9-11AM and will conclude with a prayer service led by Father Jon Schnobrich. Committal services will be held Thursday, May 7 at 1PM at the Passumpsic cemetery.
